My friends and I decided to have an early Christmas dinner together at Kostas. We had never been, but had heard great things about it. Well the things I've heard were on point. The food was amazing! I got the chicken Souvlaki and Shrimp. It was perfectly grilled and had a delicious sauce made from lemon and herbs. The veggie sides of potatoes and green beans were the best accompaniments. The Greek salad was fresh and I could drink the dressing, that's how good it was! We chatted with our server Jimmy, and he gave us their dessert they only have on the weekends. Then he told us how long they've been in business, which I remember correctly, has been 48 years! No wonder their food and staff are excellent. If I could give 10 million stars, I would. I got invited here for Valentines, yeiii! They had an special menu for Valentines day. $25 and $35 dll plates includes soup or salad. They star with bred (or what I call bolillo) and butter. The appetizer that we ordered was zaganaki cheese which is fun (bc there is fire included) and good. I ordered Moussaka plate that pretty much looks like lasagna but it has a different taste and texture. I like it. I think it is a little pricey but the food, the place and the staff is really nice. This is my first visit to Kostas in over 30 years, and we had a lovely experience: 1. The space was charming, cozy with blue walls and clean table linens. 2. Service was outstanding, with multiple people circulating to ensure our water glasses stayed full, serving food hot and fresh, boxing up out leftovers, and swooshing away dirty dishes. 3. The food was as good as the service, with very fresh hot house bread and butter, pita and hummus, large greek salad with gyro meat, and shrimp with feta in tomato sauce. Everything we had was flavorful and delicious. We will surely return soon to this charming family restaurant, now here for the past 50 years, plus or minus a smidge. read more

We got take out here tonight. It was supposed to take 15 minutes, but 30 minutes later the food still wasn't ready. I noticed a customer walking out with her bag and not soon after, an employee running after her with another bag. The same employee returns with that bag and hands it to me. Awesome: while there's virus around, we're just swapping bags like NBD. No apology or anything for the mistake. The food was borderline inedible. First of all, there was grease on every box due to poor packaging. Not only is the salad already dressed leading to soggy lettuce, the dressing leaked everywhere so I couldn't even take the boxes out without getting oil on everything. We ordered: Avgolemono soup: tasted like lemon juice mixed with cornstarch. Barely moved. Gyro plate: potatoes were hard. Pita burned. Aforementioned salad: soggy af Taramosalata: the staff had a doozy pronouncing this dish. Probably should make sure everyone is familiar with it before offering it on your menu. I was craving Greek food while on vacation, it's one of my favorite types of food. My mom and I both ordered the gyro plate, overall the food was yummy! My mom absolutely adored the pita and the Greek potatoes (neither of us ever had Greek potatoes although we both love Greek food). I really enjoyed the dressing that came on the salad, it was very light but savory. The meal also came with bread and the option to either have it with butter or dip on olive oil. Oh my, it was all so flavorful and clearly homemade from scratch! Portion was more than filling - a perfect amount for someone who likes good-sized portions. So why have I never come here before?? Sheesh. I've lived in the Dallas area for 8 years now, and didn't know that this place has been around for over 30 (!!!), especially at such a central location in North Dallas. I would always order the Greek platter so I could get a little taste of everything and save half for the next day because it seemed to taste even better then. We went to Kostas the other evening to celebrate my late mother's 74th bday and I was so disappointed. NO DOUBT Covid did a number on them like they did the rest of the world. I was honestly glad to see they were even still open and survived the lock down of 2020. First let me say, other than forgetting to get us our dessert we ordered and taking a really long time to get back with us so we could ask for our check ( my aunt had to go find him) ... our waiter was phenomenal. Very kind, professional, and for the most part, kept my cup of water filled. But the food ... all of my friends know I love their dolmas. I brag about them all the time. They were big, think and filling and the taste was amazing. This time they were half the size. Still good but not like i remembered them and nothing to write home about ( or text in this day and age) . I ate the meat and it was a bit tough. Literally two bites of it. I took one bite of everything else and couldn't finish it. The green beans tasted like they came out of a can . The lemon soup ( which was a favorite) wasn't the same . The check for two people was 82.90 and we both basically just ate the tsa tsiki and hummus. That was good. The Pita was good and the wine was good. Maybe it was just an off night for the cook. Maybe they are having to cut corners because of the hit from Covid. I don't know. But i don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Too much for subpar food. read more

She mentioned that she saw a random place on Greenville that started with a K, and I said "Aha!" I remembered reading good reviews about the place from you lovely yelpers, so I was in it to win it. This place will totally creep up on you, but trust me you don't want to miss it. Park in the small lot to your right and walk in to find a dim lit, romantic (yet not stuffy) and cozy dining atmosphere. Small tables fill the space while paintings of Greece line the walls. Our server, Nick, was awesome from the second we sat down. He arrived with waters and asked if we would like any wine or other beverages to start the meal. Well yes. Yes we would. I asked for the house white, and he brought us both a glass of Greek white wine. Nick was a delight. He was helpful with offering suggestions on what to eat, very attentive without being obtrusive or annoying and adorable to boot! The rest of the staff was very friendly and warm. Amy and I decided to attack the large menu tapas style so we ordered a few appetizers. The Tzatziki (Sour cream, cucumber, garlic and olive oil dip) was wonderfully tangy and the hummus (Garbonzo beans with tahini) was a perfect mixture of spices and texture. The Pitas.. man the pitas were amazing. Soft, flaky, doughy and warm... everything you want your pita to be. It is hard to compare and rank what we ate because it was alllll sooooo goooood, but the Spanikopita was a definite favorite. The dish was layered with fresh spinach, feta cheese and flaky phylo dough. Nick surprised us with two more glasses of wine and a plate of Dolmas (Grape leaves stuffed with rice and ground beef). Amy and I were a bit scared because we had each just discussed the crap shoot that Dolmas can be. We both had horror stories of biting into something we hated, and maybe had one story of them being "just alright." Well, we now have a story of dreamy Dolmas. They are served with a thin white cream sauce. One fork load into my mouth and I was hooked. Yummers. Thanks Nick. He told us that you can't visit Kosta's without having their Dolmas. So don't try to make that mistake either. You'll be missing out if you do. Nick had one last surprise for us at the end of the meal. A plate of Baklava. Holy canole, people. This is the best I have ever tasted, and I love me some Baklava. The icing on the cake was that our bill was ridiculously inexpensive. I will definitely be back, and will definitely send my friends here. The setting is a perfect place to impress a date, or just catch up with a good friend. We tell him we will order to go and his smile all of a sudden becomes genuine. We order 2 gyro plates to go - 1 with salad and the other with soup. While we wait, the server gives up a glass of water. I thought that was nice of him. Our food comes out not too long after we placed our order. It's not even 9:30pm as I watch them turn off the open sign. We both enjoyed our entrees (at home). They gave us generous portions with our to go order. I definitely do not recommend the soup. It was a thick lemon soup with undercooked rice. I did enjoy the gyro meat and lemony potatoes. I'm giving this place a low rating because of the service we received. This is another long standing establishment in Dallas. Kostas offers authentic traditional Greek food and it certainly has its charm. The owner speaks Greek and has been at this location for years. The staff is always attentive and consistent with their service. The waitress who waited on us last night was witty and cheerful even though it was almost closing time. The food dishes have always been on point. We've been eating at Kostas multiple times with big group or date nights. We even tried their Plano location, however I can say the Plano has the same consistent taste as the Dallas location. read more

We decided to invite a coworker for a birthday lunch and she chose here. I ordered a Greek chicken salad and the birthday gal ordered the salmon special. My salad was a good size but it really didn't have much flavor, although the blackened chicken itself was very flavorful (a bit salty but flavorful) requested more dressing and they brought me what seemed to be mainly oil with pepper... Not tasty or savory. Tried my friend's salmon and it was yum, potatoes were light and okra saggy. The hummus was chunky and a bit too garlicky that you'll have the after taste all day. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Kostas. The atmosphere is quite lovely and the service was good but most importantly we loved everything we had here. I highly recommend people getting their combo plate if it is your first time here. This way you can try a bit of everything. The gyro was a great choice too.
