I really love this Kowalski's. I've been going here for years. The workers are always polite and very helpful with meeting my needs. Produce and deli section always has fresh quality food, and the seasonal gifts are always good to take a peek at. If I lived closer this would be my main grocery store. read more

I can't speak to the contents of the entire store, as I was there for the artisan cheese and I found it the instant I stepped inside. The cheese counter here is large and fantastic, with a wide variety of both domestic and international cheeses. I greatly appreciated that they had two heaping baskets of small pieces of cheese--perfect for trying new cheeses while keeping the cost down! I found lots of things to buy. The checkout was fast, the cashier incredibly friendly. An important note: this was a very busy place at midafternoon, and the parking lot was packed. As we left, I realized we'd been lucky to get a spot as we had. By the signs in the lot, they have issues with people using their lot to instead visit the Starbucks next door. read more

I think this is such an awesome store, a bit costly. I just came in for mullein though, but definitely more than what I'd typically pay. The section to Make your own peanut butter is pretty cool. I just think self service stuff can be a little risky, especially in the winter. Not everyone is clean and considerate. read more

I'm a big fan of Kowalski's meat, fish and produce. I literally shop there every day. But their deserts are not near as good as Lunds & Byerlies or Whole Foods. Kowalski's deserts are far too sweet in almost every case. They used to have great bread - and then they switched bakeries and their artesian bread are not good. The breads (except for Bella) have tough, leathery crust and are almost inedible. Clearly they are baking at too low temperature with too much moisture. Very disappointing. Kowalski's is the most expensive grocier in the Twin Cities so we should expect more because they are definitely asking for a premium. read more

I love this Kowalskis, and not just because it's so close to my house. It is definitely one of the smaller kowalskis in the city but the smallness is what I love about it. It's big enough to have a good variety of groceries without being too large and overwhelming. The deli has high quality lunch meats and cheese and a hot food section. The soup bar always has a very good soup selection. The salad bar also has a section where you can make a burrito bowl. And let's not forget the olive bar! read more

I love this Kowalskis. What I like about this location is the store size, it's not so big that it takes forever to get around. Because of the size you can do all your shopping in a short amount of time. Their produce is always fresh, not like the wrinkly old stuff you see at Target. They also have a nice Salad and soup bar, or if you prefer there is a havea hot deli as well. Also up stairs is a lounge, but pretty much is a young kid hang out area though. One down side about shopping here is you'll pay a bit more, especially for any sort of specialty item. Oh well that's what you get for convenience. Update: So Kowalski's totally added an awesome cheese counter. All the cheeses are laid out very nicely. It makes it slightly nicer to pick out your fav cheese. read more

I stopped by and ordered platters for my summer poolside event and I was not disappointed. The platters were ready when I wanted to pick them up and they were just perfect. The sweet bar tray, dipped strawberries and veg tray were all just fine. Just make sure you allow enough space in your frig for the high plastic covers the trays come with....if you are short on space I recommend you might transfer some items to your own serving pieces and cover with wrap like I did prior to serving. read more

Well I've been trying to eat at home more but I sure miss reviewing restaurants. I guess this Kowalski's market is kind of my restaurant now. And mt partner and I are the chefs......and the dishwashers..and the line cooks..and the hosts... ha ha. Anyway this is a pretty good little neighborhood market. Sometimes when it's busy I want to rip my hair out and scream at everyone but what can you do? Not their fault everyone wants to spend 90+ seconds picking out their tomatoes....all at once... ha ha. Haha well the deli's pretty good too and the people behind the counter are always always always friendly. One time my Rao's arrabiatta tomato sauce was opened and moldy on the inside but again what can you do. I just threw it in the compost. Ha ha ... ha. Seriously though i'm pretty pleased and they have these little bread onion things..go over by the donuts and the breads and you'll see them if you're not too late. They are to die for. It's like a little bread circle with some onion and cheese i the middle. I go here several times a week to grab my lunch since it's walking distance from my home office and also buy a lot of my general groceries here despite the high prices. I have always been impressed with the quality of the food, the level of service and the general convenience of this location so have been willing to pay extra. However, today was confronted by a security guard accusing me of stealing and eating soup. Because I eat the soup right away I do not put a cover on it and had a spoon in it. Unbelievable I spend thousands of dollars in this store yearly and I get accused of stealing. I encourage management to look at your security cameras to see if indeed this was the case! False on all accounts!!!!! And then I see him go to another manager and reiterate, I was stealing soup, after confronting me in a public place around all the other customers. Completely humiliating and embarrassing. Security should be cracking down on the repeat offender pan handlers and the grifters that barely let you get in the front door without getting accosted. I will start taking my business elsewhere as Tradewinds is right down the street. read more

As you walk in you're greeted with a huge display of flower bouquets. You really don't have to go to nurseries with these around. The fruit and veggie aisles are on the right like most of the other stores. I was looking for cotton candy grapes but they weren't available. It's California grape season. I got some Fairlife filtered milk, which is great for the lactose intolerant. It's one of the few stores that carry that brand. I stopped for the pretzel hotdog buns. I couldn't resist the thin maple rolled oat cookies that they bake on site.They had Jonny Pops on sale but not the 2 chocolate ones which I thought strange and annoying. Still I picked up a coconut one. At the checkout someone runs right up to bag and carry it out. In this neighborhood it has a co-op feeling. read more

I don't like Kowalski! It is too expensive for no reason! I stopped by here since it way home. I wanted to buy the salmon which is normally $9.99 at Whole Foods but here it is $18.99. What a ripoff. I asked what the difference was and the guy behind the counter said that it must be a different seller Whole Foods purchases from. The bread I bought is dry. The flax muffins are no good. Trying so hard to be gluten free and completely missing consumer taste buds. I don't like shopping here. Way too overpriced when competitors such as kinds and Whole Foods offer better deals and even fresher produce. read more

Let me start by saying I'm a big Kowalski's fan, especially the location I lived next to in Eagan, great store. This location is definitely better than some but not as good as Eagan or Hennepin Ave. I usually frequent the hot soup, deli items and bakery, the shrimp salad and chicken tortellini alfredo are pretty great. I will drive the longer distance to this Kowalskis rather than the Chicago Ave store because it's bigger and has more to choose from for prepared food. Too many times though the food has been below Kowalski standards, maybe it has to do with how busy it is but things in the deli often taste as if they have been sitting there under the heat lamp for too long. I can't remember a single example of this happening at Eagan, all the food seemed to have just been prepared. My other beef is with the soup here, maybe they are slipping at all the locations but this store does not have as hearty soup, I always have to sift liquid to get a little filler with my meal. I know I'll be back, they have a Movies On The Go and South Lyndale Liquors is right across the street. It's not so bad where I would drive the extra distance all the way to Eagan, it would be nice however if they stepped their game up a little bit. read more

This store is a little light on organic fruits and vegetables AND cleaning supplies / the parking lot can get tight. However, if you can look past those two things, it's a fantastic neighborhood store - they fit a ton of selection into a relatively small space. All of their staff are really friendly and helpful and they still cary your bags out to the car for you! As a disclaimer, this is only the second Kowalski's location that I have visited. Firstly, this business is located on a high-traffic street and has hopelessly inadequate parking. Minor traffic jams can be caused when patrons simply want to park or leave. As other reviewers have noted, the store is not well lit and the prices at this location are often shockingly marked up. I used to liken the wares as to Aldi merchandise at Whole Foods prices, but on consideration, the prices can make Whole Foods look like a bargain, especially when taking into account the quality differential. People who live or work in the immediate vicinity of the store might find the convenience of shopping here appealing, but those traveling here from any distance to speak of may want to reconsider. read more

I'm sorry, boyfriend. I've gone this long not reviewing Kowalski's because they issue your paychecks (specifically avoiding THIS ONE because you work there) but, I can't do it anymore. I like this store and I want other people to know it. Maybe then your store will get SUPER SUPER busy and you'll bring home an even fatter paycheck and will buy me and the dogs lots of diamonds and coolness. Or maybe you'll just stop refusing to go there on your days off, instead shopping at the stupid Lunds on Penn Avenue that is pretty dumb in comparison to AWESOME Kowalski's. Ok, it's not THAT perfect but it is pretty great. Maybe it's because I have an inside connection, but I shop at this store confident that there are no groady behind-the-scenes things going on with the food. I mainly use Kowalski's as a fill-in for my larger shopping, which I think a lot of people do. To the other reviewer who wishes that the employees would be a little more friendly, you have obviously never gotten into the line with the SUPER COOL World of Warcraft kid. He'll tell you so much about orcs and dragons (or whatever the hell that game is made up of) that you'll change your tune pretty quickly. One more thing. If you are able-bodied and only have one or two bags, don't make the kids take them to your car because it makes you look like a total douchebag (I'm looking at YOU middle-aged man with one bag being carried out by a 16 year old girl in the dead of winter.) read more

Kowalski's is my 2nd favorite of our Twin Cities area grocers, just behind Lunds when it comes to things like bakery goods and meat. They too carry Boars Head meats, and have exclusive products. I've always had real good luck with their bakery when it comes to hamburger and hot dog buns for a day of grilling, gotta get those Boars Head all beef hot dogs, man are those good. Another nice thing about this place, as well as the other Kowalski's that I've been is you can get in, get you're shopping done, and be out the door in no time, great if you're in a hurry. Just like Lunds each store has it's own characteristics, this one is in a charming old neighborhood shopping area right next to Minnehaha Parkway, and has a very neat interior. I think the prices at Kowalski's are for the most part more expensive than it's competitors, even Lunds. I don't think the things that I get here are by any means a rip off though, it's good quality stuff. read more

Kowalski's in the Lynnhurst neighborhood is a go-to on a regular basis for us. Their mix of quality produce, good hot food deli, great everyday selection, and top-notch meats are a definite selling point. We typically frequent this location once or twice a week for our grocery needs. We are able to do all our shopping here, which is a major plus. We can always get the produce, proteins, and non-perishables that we are looking for. Also, when we are looking for one-off items like specialty cheeses, alternative food options, or high-end beef, we usually make this the first stopping point. I have yet to be disappointed in my shopping experience at Kowalski's and I will continue to keep coming back. Specialty items: - One of the only stores to sell Bull Run coffee in bags - Have Wagyu beef in steak and ground form on a regular basis (great price) - Awesome specialty cheese selection - Best hot food/sandwich selection in the Southwest Minneapolis area for grocery stores Major Con: The parking lot always leaves me cursing and wondering why I continue to shop here. Kowalski's is another reason I love living in southwest Minneapolis. Sure, they're pricier than the likes of Cub or Rainbow, and their parking lot gets crazier than a bad carnival ride, but they've got the grocery biz figured out. Let it be said, I do not do my everyday shopping here. When it comes to pricing and selection, the aforementioned establishments are superior. However, if I am in a hurry or am in need of some specialty items, Kowlaski's is where I go. Forget Lund's and Byerly's. Kowalski's produce and meat dept's can't be beat and their fresh sushi is shockingly phenomenal. But where Kowalski's blows the competition away is their customer service. I do a lot of cooking and sometimes my recipes call for off-the-wall ingredients. A few weeks ago I was making a dish that called for ground sumac. Sumac is not an everyday spice you find just anywhere. After recruiting nearly the entire staff to look for the elusive sumac, they finally Googled it and found mulling spice to be an acceptable alternative. For my 'trouble' they comped me the mulling spice. Now THAT my friends, is service. My Grandfather used to own a neighborhood grocery, and this is exactly how he ran things. I really remain uncharmed, unswayed, and unimpressed with Lunds/Byerly's. Their pricing is a joke, and the quality not all that - the entire experience of shopping there an obnoxious one, to me. Sorry folks, Dean and Deluca you ain't, not by a LONG shot. Stop acting as if you are. Kowalski's on the other hand, gets it right. It's all a little better, a little nicer, and yet, I don't feel like I'm being gouged or like I must dress to be seen in order to go get some peanut butter and milk at 11:30 at night. There are all the organic/gluten free highlights for when the co-op is closed or Whole Foods is too irritatingly packed to consider. This is my closest grocery store after moving to the Kingfield neighborhood, and I have to say, I'm not impressed. First of all, the prices are crazy! Since when are chicken breasts $6.99/lb? And Jack's frozen pizza for $4.39?? Now that is insanity. Also, I find the store to be laid out strangely. I never know where to look for items, and items aren't even price-labelled clearly half the time. That being said, it's nice enough inside, and they're open late. However, if this wasn't the closest grocery store to my house, I wouldn't bother to waste a single extra penny there. read more

Im here to review the Donuts. We can talk a lot about the prices of Kowalskis, and the crazy parking lot, but when we talk Kowalskis Donuts we talk 5 stars. I love visiting all the amazing donut shops around the Twin Cities but when I want a good basic chocolate raised or an old fashioned donut, I come here. For $1 you cant go wrong! They are always fresh, have plenty in stock, and taste amazing. Maybe they aren't instagram pretty like some other shops but sometimes you just need a good cheap donut! read more

I despair at what Kowalskis has become. I was not a regular shopper there before the pandemic. I lived near the Grand Avenue store, and loved how small it was and how fast it was to get out of there. The variety of products, and gourmet/ready to eat was also nice. People would say it was expensive, but to me it was worth a bit more. Having moved to Highland Park, it was easier to go to a more local store. But I would still pop in to Kowalskis from time to time. Price wise, it shouldn't have been much different from where I was shopping...oh, but it was. Each time I was noticing consistent jumps that bordered on insulting. So what's my point? Well, I'm not asleep to the fact that inflation is knocking the wind out of all of us. Just about and product you can name has gone up not only the government quoted 10% (Sorry I have to belly laugh at this) the norm I'm finding is 20-50%. So, unfortunately I have to say almost nothing shocks me. However, I was in the Woodbury area today and a friend said there was a Kowalskis nearby. I didn't have much to get so that seemed fine. Nice store. Spacious and clean. Had gourmet frozen selections I would be challenged to find elsewhere. But understand, I'm not talking about those. For pretty basic stuff, that could fill one paper shopping bag, it was $70. I looked at ladies passing, and their carts fairly full thinking , that bill will be $300 easy. I'm not rich anymore. Kowalski's is my slightly impractical grocery store of choice. It's my go to because the Kowalski's private brand is awesome. They don't just do basics, they do flavor! The pasta salad options, for example, are fantastic. They will let you try plenty of varieties before you select your favorite, but I've stopped bothering because I'll love them all! Tropical Mango Quinoa, Lemony Couscous, Fall Grains with Apple, they're all delicious. Also, if you are willing to meander down the path of grocery store sushi, they have some pretty legit options. I like the spicy tuna and California rolls (with brown rice when it's still in stock). The big drawback for me is that they do ending up costing me a bit more for a similar basket of goods at Lund's. Typically if I only buy only sale produce I can keep costs in line, but if I go in with a need for ingredients for a particular recipe I usually pay way more than I'd like. Also the parking lot is a disaster in peak times. It's very small and it can be hard to maneuver around in. read more

I live near this Kowalski's and when they opened, I felt that I should patronize my neighborhood business and do my shopping here. However, I find that this is a place I do not enjoy. Compared to my usual grocery store, Byerly's in Edina, I find the selection to be limited (the store is small). Aisles are crowded and items are hard to find. There never seems to be a stock person to help. Also the interior is to me dark and depressing and parking can be a hassle at times. The express lane is usually not open so if you want to buy a few items you often have to wait while one or two people with full carts get checked out. Frankly, I have not found the vaunted quality of produce and meat to be that great either. I will continue to drive to Edina for my weekly grocery shopping. read more

Love their stuffing that you bake in the oven and other meat/seafood counter items. That said, all of their products are about 25-30% higher than LUND'S, Whole Foods, etc. read more

Kowalskis replaced a former IGA/Red Owl type grocery store in a quonset hut with a boutique store and Whole Foods pricing. Everything about the store is pretty OK - produce, deli, grocery selection and bakery aren't particularly good, but exceptional pricing is applied. Most shopping I've observed is fill-in, I think most people in the neighborhood go elsewhere for majority of their groceries. One thing I've noticed, since we use it for fill-in shopping and end up in at least once each week, is that they would really nail it if they just tried a bit to personalize. It's a neighborhood store and most of their customers are like us. I've seen the same staff hundreds of times now. No recognition, or even pleasantness. read more

The assortments of breads makes me wanna drop in and check it out whenever I drive by :) I like the shopping experience at Kowalski's, but keep from doing all my shopping here so Im not breaking the bank. Kowalski's is also the only places I know of that sells Folgers coffee bags. Its the equivalent of teabags for coffee if you who want just a cup and not a pot, but are not down with instant coffee. read more

Had Christmas food and groceries to be delivered....when Door Dash failed to pick up the order they went into action to combine the orders and get delivered in the middle of a blizzard. Great service and high quality deli food and accurate items in the grocery order. Kowalski's is my grocery dream. I aspire to it. I love to walk around here, eat samples, look at the deli case, and then walk out with a container of apple juice and a small pack of strawberries.
