I am giving this bar 4 stars for the fun theme. I took some friends from out of town here. They didn't suspect a thing and we're definitely surprised! It can be hard to get a drink in here during peek time, but the entertaining videos help remedy the wait at the bar. Definitely a mixed crowed here, you've got your hipsters, dive bar patrons, and young professionals alike. Kozy' is worth checking out if you've never been before. read more

Bouncer was a complete and total dick. Drinks were ok, but bar staff were inattentive and the place was stifling hot. You can see into the women's bathrooms which only have a crap curtain (instead of a door). Interesting décor, but overall not a place I'd go to again given a choice. read more

New bar on the block, I wasn't sure what to expect but this place isn't shabby at all. It's a well-rounded American bar with a decent selection of liquor and beer. The 70s van vibe is the best gimmick of this bar along with its chill, attractive, and witty bar staff. Oh, you also can't miss the vintage playboy pinups all over this place! It can get pretty packed on Friday and Saturday nights so I recommend coming in during the weeknights to enjoy the atmosphere at this spot. read more

HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS PLACE?!? they have bendy straws!!!! kozy kar is a raunchy little bar that you have to go to at least once in your life. or maybe twice because you'll have to come back and bring people who've never been here before without telling them what's up. make sure they notice the subliminal porn playing on the television. one weird thing is that the bathrooms don't have doors. they have curtains that don't close all the way. a bartender let me charge my iphone behind the bar which was nice. he was pretty fucking friendly even though we accidentally knocked over a stack of napkins and took a bunch of straws and started sticking them up our nose / mouths. really mature... i know. he ended up taking the straws away from us and putting them in the back, but was joke-y about it haha read more

Usually I shy away when my friends head to Polk st., for good reason. Perhaps for want of entertainment, I decided to go to Polk tonight and meet my friends at Kozy Kar. I walked in and thought that it is an interesting crowd. And, the Breakfast Club is being shown on the many TVs in the bar; not bad. But wait... the scene on the TVs change, and its hardcore porn. And there's tons of old dudes and young women. Seems like I've entered the San Fernando Valley, and there's tons of old porn producers and the toxic sludge that drips down from the marina chatting up 21 year old women. Beers are shockingly expensive for a dive bar, and you feel skeezy just leaning against the walls. I probably would not head back, and would only recommend it if you are seeking an especially weird night. We left and headed south, not much better. read more

This place was fun. Very chill. The waterbed was so much fun to take pictures on. The porn was a nice touch, although the "shock" wears off quick. It's a great place for a drink with friends. I've been twice now-once on a Wed and once on a Sat. Got seats both times including the water bed at some point in both nights. Love the decor and the people. The line on Sat moved quick. They served my fernet on the rocks in a big cup not a tiny shot glass or a reg glass. And by the way fernet is $7 everywhere on polk street and like $10 at Bubble Lounge the other night, so go to your own street if you wanna cry about that. As for Sam, the owner, he gets five stars too. I was a drunk idiot like a lot of us are on Saturday nights and lost everything including my drink. What did Sam say? I'll replace it (the drink) and he did. Then at 2:54 am I get a call from Sam saying sorry they didn't find my id and debit card--which I somehow woke up with anyway (just so all you yelpers just looking to talk trash don't try to come up with something ridiculous like stuff gets stolen at kk). I stopped in for a drink before a show at Red Devil. The bartender on duty was nice, and the shag van area gave me flashbacks to my uncle Arturo's van with shag carpeting, but there weren't pictures of naked women everywhere (my aunt wouldn't allow it) just rosary beads hanging from the windshield mirror, and 7 screaming kids playing in the back (me included). My sister in law who is from Spain was with me and she was definitely amused although a little embarrassed. Well, at least I gave her something to talk about when she goes back. Check it out when it's not busy and take some friends with a good sense of humor. All and all it's a good place to grab a quick drink. read more

A 70s themed dive bar like no other! From the water beds to the jacuzzi and vintage car seating this place is so cool and unique. Not to mention the 30 second intermissions of porn on the TV screens! Came here with a group of friends and had such a laugh!! It also has a great vibe with kind people that just want to get up and dance! Would definitely recommend this place as a must do! I'm going to have to say this is the best dive bar I've ever been to. If you are looking for a classy place or a date place, this is not your place. If you are looking for a totally ridiculous bar, like nothing you've seen before, and don't mind lots of nudity and some porn (on the screens), then you'll like this place. This place has 2 waterbeds. WATERBEDS in a bar - that's awesome. They have a working pinball machine They have an entire half of a 80s "conversation" van - that you can sit in - awesome. I love this place for two main reasons: (1) cheap beer in a can with a STRAW. I love straws and anything out of a straw tastes at least 10x better, and (2) the seventies porn on the floor. Oh Kozy Kar, how I didn't want to like you. See, I'm a simple man. Give me a well poured bourbon or G&T, some good tunes or sports on the tube, and I'm set. I read the reviews of this place and was quite hesitant. Airplane chairs? Fur-lined booths? Sounded a little too kitschy for me. But you know what? They know their schtick, they stick to it, and they make it work. If you don't have fun at this place, then you're a) probably too young to be in their target market and b) maybe not human. Yes, the place gets packed with an assortment of singles bar types. However, I found them all very friendly and didn't experience a whit of aggro posturing as I normally would at a place like this. Then, the 70's era stuff is pretty kick ass. Yes, I (grandpa) could dig out my lps and 8-tracks and recreate a similar scenario, but I'm willing to pay for the convenience of them doing it for me. Also, the bartenders pour heavy. This is never, ever, a bad thing. And the drinks are reasonably priced. Finally, I had a random good karma moment (past experiences are not an indicator of future results, your mileage may vary), where I was waiting to order a round at the bar, and some guy just randomly paid for my drinks. That's the kind of place KK is. You'll find yourself high-fiving random strangers, singing along to the worst songs K-Tel has to offer, and loving every minute of it. The bouncer was extremely rude and for no reason was hostile towards my friends and I. He was wearing a red backwards cap and had a beard. This really ruined our experience since the very beginning. After leaving the bar he got up on my boyfriend's face because he apparently leaned on his car, and the dude was literally ready to punch him. Really messed up. If kozykar wants customers to feel welcome this guy is not the guy you want at the front door. read more

I moved to the Bay Area in 2008 and it is now 2017, I have been to numerous bars and clubs in the Bay Area. This is my first time to kozy Kar and it was the best time I have had since I moved here. It's an interesting concept--car seats for bar seats! The drinks are inexpensive, but I like having beer on tap. I could sort of overlook the porn mag pin-ups that covered almost every last surface of the place but the creepy student film freaked me out a bit. Saturday morning cartoons that were edited with bits of porn. Yeah... kind of hard to have conversations with your friends with that kind of thing going on behind their heads. read more

Alright I know reviews are mixed on this place, but I went for the first time on Friday and I actually had a really great time. You have to appreciate it for what it is, a 70's novelty bar in Nob Hill.There was a line but we got right in (granted we were five girls), and the bartender/owner only charged me for one of the three drinks I ordered that night. It was a mixed crowd because of the Berkeley/USC game, so lots of LA types hanging about. I would definitely come here again with more friends although I can't say I'd make it a regular hang out spot. Everyone knocks on the novelty factor, but sorry thats what sells. Every bar in SF from Minna to the Castle have decades nights, this is just taking it to another level. It may be a shameless ploy for business and buzz, but I loved its postmodern appeal nonetheless. read more

Cheap beer - PBR, Olympia - 70's porn underneath the bar and on the dance floor (feathered hair and all), what's not to like? Kind of tough to grab a seat, as groups tend to claim on of the 'vans' and not really leave it during the duration of the night. Stumbled into this place on a Tuesday night with some friends... Wasn't quite sure what to think from the rainbow "lite brite" sign outside. Upon entering, it had a pretty good vibe. Lots of different, random types of peoples.. We grabbed a booth in the back near the floor covered in naked ladies from back when bush was "in." Our table had waterbed-like cushions. This is now my favorite bar in SF. We were there for a bachelorette party over the weekend and it was very impressive. I also looked on their website and LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that they have a review section with their bad reviews from some DBagger that is so obviously jealous that they have hit their mark.
