Extremely crispy orange chicken with little flavor. Crispy chicken also had little flavor.

I wasn't really impressed with Chicken Rice. It's a small stand inside 99 Ranch. I ordered the Duo Chicken rice plate with crispy chicken and orange chicken. The orange chicken had very little orange flavor and was extremely crispy. My plastic fork broke and I had to eat with my fingers. The crispy chicken was cooked OK but had little flavor. The Miso soup also had little flavor. There are a few tables so I ate there before paying for my groceries. Chicken Rice is a one and done for me.

This eatery is inside the 99 Ranch Market, and if you like ginger, you'll love these dishes! Their signature ginger scallion sauce and ginger rice is what most come for. Their chicken is really good, and their meals come with a mini cup of Miso soup. They do provide a few tables and chairs so you can dine in, although most take to go.

Tucked away in a 99 ranch market, this place serves up hainan chicken rice or Khao Mun Gai. I think this place is Thai style, but I can't really distinguish the difference to other location outside of the sauces. The meal comes with 2 sauces and rice chicken and soup. There are a variety of sauces but I opted for spicy miso and ginger scallion. Rice was well seasoned and chicken was tender. Soup was a seaweed type of soup. Portion was pretty substantial. There is some seating inside. Overall good spot for some hainan chicken rice.

Tustin is The Chicken Rice's second location and can be found near the intersection of Newport Avenue and 1st Street in Larwin Square. It's not a standalone restaurant but instead is located inside the recently opened 99 Ranch market. There are a few tables if you plan to dine in, but I expect most patrons will order for takeout. We started with the Crispy Tofu appetizer, but it was tasteless and not memorable. The restaurant's specialty is Thai Style Hainanese Chicken Rice and their signature dish includes ginger rice, soup and cucumber. The restaurant offers a half and half option for an additional $3 and a choice of two of the following: - Hainan Chicken - Crispy Chicken - BBQ Chicken - Larb Crispy Chicken - Hat Yai Fried Chicken - Orange Chicken Each order also comes with a choice of two sauces from the following selection: - Fresh Ginger & Chili - Soybean Ginger - Spicy Soybean Ginger - Ginger Scallion - Sweet Soy Sauce - Sweet & Sour I'm partial to the Hainan Chicken dipped in the Ginger Scallion sauce and the Hat Yai Fried Chicken paired with the Spicy Soybean Ginger. The restaurant staff is helpful and friendly too. I'd also recommend trying their original location at the 4th Street Market in Santa Ana.

Wow, The Chicken Rice has me hooked on their Hainan Chicken - I've lost count of how many times I've ordered it since they opened. Absolutely love how tender and perfectly cooked the chicken is each time, and the sauces they serve with the chicken are so deliciously addictive in the best way! I love the Ginger Scallion Oil and Spicy Soybean Ginger for my dipping sauces. The Orange Chicken is also very tasty. Other than Hainan Chicken, the Hat Yai fried chicken is also our go-to order for half and half. Can't wait to try more menu items, but we always have to order the Hainan Chicken because it's THAT good! You can order at the counter or electronic kiosk. Located within 99 Ranch so the parking lot is large. Pair with a tea from Wushiland (also inside 99 Ranch) and you've got yourself a delightful combo! Ambiance is casual and there are some tables around the order counter (both front and back). Hope you enjoy!

If you're a fan of Hainan chicken, you'll want to make a pit stop at Chicken Rice in the 99 Ranch Market food hall. They've got the basics covered--tender steamed chicken with those classic sauces (ginger oil, miso ginger--you know the drill). But then there's a dish I haven't seen, or notice before, which is the Hat Yai Chicken. The prices? Friendly enough that you won't need to refinance your house, and the portions will keep you fueled for either a shopping spree or a post-boba food coma (yes, Wushiland moved in--resistance is futile). There's also seating, so you can have your chicken before buying too many things you don't need in the market. I would totally hit up this place again and get to do my weekly grocery shopping at the same time.

This restaurant is located inside the 99 Ranch Market! We got the Hainan Chicken Rice and the Khao Sao. - Hainan Chicken Rice: Flavor was okay decent. I've had places better. - Khao Sao: Great coconut flavor. A little sweet. Definitely would recommend getting extra spicy. Defining will go again! Want to try their main restaurant in Santa Ana location.

Khao Soi was very good. Friendly and helpful service, ample clean tables. Inside Ranch 99.

Was craving Hainan Chicken and met up with a friend here. The place is tucked inside a 99 Ranch Market and has about 5-6 tables to eat at. When I got to the counter, I asked about the different kinds of chicken they serve and the helpful cashier explained them quite clearly. Wanting to try something new, I ordered Hat Yai chicken in a combo with steamed Hainan Chicken and ginger rice. You get to choose two sauces, so I went with the standard ginger and green onion along with a Spicy Soybean Ginger Sauce. It comes with a cup of chicken broth on the side, which you can drizzle over your rice or just have as a side soup. Hat Yai chicken was good--it's deep fried without batter--but I think I'll stick with regular Hainan Chicken next time, only because I prefer the chicken steamed. A solid meal option in this part of town!

Chicken portion was large and the ginger rice was flavorful and tasty, plus great sauces to complement the entire Hainan Chicken rice dish together. The Khao Soi was also tasty and it came with two large drumsticks and creamy curry broth. The staff were friendly and super nice. The ambiance is casual in the food court area inside 99 Ranch Market in Tustin. Highly recommended!

My experience here started on a bad note. Didn't realize it was located inside the 99 ranch market. Surprisingly there's a food court inside.. it looked promising and Yelp reviews are what brought me here. High price point in my opinion, especially for a grocery store food option. I ordered the combo and picked the hainan chicken dark meat with larb chicken. I liked the larb but everything else went downhill. The broth it came with was unnecessarily hot and burned my tongue lol. The hainan chicken was rubbery and the rice was not up to par either. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the best hainan chicken in Alhambra. I think 3 stars is being generous...

Sorry, too hungry before taking the picture but it's juicier today

Try it again today and the soup is better now (less sweet). Sorry for the messy picture showing the food

This Thai spot in Tustin, Manaao Thai Comfort Food, had been on my foodie list for a while ever…read moresince it opened in 2023. Not long after opening, it was featured by the LA Times / Daily Pilot, and then quickly blew up on TikTok and IG foodie circles across OC. Dinner starts at 4:30 PM, and we arrived around 4:10. Even then, people were already waiting in their cars. We walked around the plaza for a bit, but when we came back at 4:28, a line had already formed outside. They use a Yelp waitlist kiosk at the entrance, and we were already the third party in line. The restaurant has around 25+ tables, and within minutes of opening, the place filled up fast. By the time our first dish arrived, the line outside was packed. Definitely glad we came early, this place gets busy FAST. We ordered: 1. Khao Soi Noodle $28 One of the LA Times' "Best Dishes of 2023," and honestly the standout of the night. The rich yellow curry broth with coconut milk had a nice spicy kick without being overly salty. It came with crispy noodles on top, softer noodles underneath, plus crispy soft-shell crab that added great texture. The lime and diced onions on the side helped brighten everything up too. Very flavorful and worth trying, although $28 still feels a little pricey. 2. Gaeng Som (Thai Sour Curry Fish Soup) $28 A mildly sour and spicy curry fish soup with crispy fish, green papaya, daikon, carrots, and long beans. The flavor actually reminded me a bit of Korean spicy fish stew, but with stronger sourness and herbal notes. Great with rice, though again, the price feels high for the portion. 3. Thai Hainan Chicken Rice $18 This was probably the weakest dish we ordered. The chicken was very soft but lacked flavor, and the soup was pretty bland. Honestly, I prefer the Vietnamese-style chicken rice in Little Saigon more. The rice itself paired nicely with the stronger curry dishes though. 4. Thai Milk Tea $6 Less sweet than most Thai restaurants, which I really appreciated. Much more balanced and not overly sugary. Overall, Manaao feels more authentic and regional compared to many Americanized Thai restaurants in OC. The menu goes beyond the usual Pad Thai staples, and the flavors definitely have more depth. That said, prices are on the higher side, and portions aren't huge. Three dishes can easily run over $70. Still, I can see why this place became so popular. The owner apparently used to work as a web developer before starting to cook hometown Thai dishes during the pandemic, eventually opening Manaao with his wife to focus on authentic Thai comfort food. They're already expanding to Irvine Spectrum near Din Tai Fung. Out of everything we tried, the Khao Soi was definitely the must-order dish for me. Would I wait an hour for it though? Personally... probably not! Manaao Thai Comfort Food 13842 Newport Ave Unit F, Tustin, CA 92780

Almost like the Cheers bar in MA where everybody knows your name. Kinda nice actually. What we ordered: 1) pad see ew with crispy pork - 5/5. The kids loved this so much we needed up having to order two. 2) garlic salmon - 4/5. Served over a bed of veggies. This one was à la cart so we had to order a side of rice. It's enough for one person. This was covered with garlicky goodness. My son was wanting more. 3) Panang curry - 5/5. Not pictured here. One of our guests started to devour that dish before I could even take a photo. Sadly, they weren't familiar with me wanting to take a picture. The kids were like "oh no. We don't touch our food before the little photoshoot" LOL. Overall, we really enjoyed our food. I'm not in the area frequently, but if I was around and wanted Thai, I would definitely come back for more. Service was great and staff were attentive and friendly. What more could you ask for?

I ordered the Khao Soi Fried Rice and the Khao Soi, both with the spicy pork Thai sausage. The Khao Soi Fried Rice was easily a 10/10. It somehow tasted exactly like khao soi noodles but in fried rice form. They really captured the flavor of the dish perfectly, and the mix of textures from the crispy and softer elements made every bite great. The spicy pork Thai sausage was another 10/10. It had a ton of flavor, was noticeably better than the Thai sausage I've had at other Thai restaurants, and stayed juicy without being dry. The Khao Soi itself was a solid 9/10. The broth was rich, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping for. My only minor preference would be slightly thicker noodles with a bit more chew, but that's completely personal taste and not really a knock on the dish. The staff was friendly and quickly greeted and guided me to my reserved table. The space was cozy and warm while having a minimalist vibe, but still had that small business owner feel to it. The menu had so many food options, more than some of the other thai spots around in OC. Here, you'll find some more rare dishes besides your more common and popular noodle and curry dishes. Dishes we ordered: - Crab Noodles: this was probably the most popular one for the table! Amount of crab was pretty good for the value and noodles were perfectly sweet and savory with the fried egg. Would definitely order this again! - Panang Curry with Chicken: this was also probably one of the best panang that I've had! The chicken was also very tender. Medium heat was the perfect amount of space that packed flavor with just the right kick to it. - Creamy Udon in Tom Yum Soup: just a little mild for those who don't want anything too spicy. While the crispy pork had good flavor, the pieces were a bit hard to chew. - Pad Thai: not usually my go-to dish because it's more sweet than savory, but this dish was pretty good. - Egg Rolls: perfect to share as an appetizer! Filling was well seasoned and rolls were lightly fried for a good crispy texture. With so many popular thai spots around OC, it can be tricky finding one that checks all the marks, but this one might have it all! Now I just need to make sure to save stomach space to try their mango sticky rice...

I had been eyeing a few others too, but the long waits always scared me off Parking was easy with a good amount of spaces outside, and the wait was only about 5 minutes around 7:15 PM, which was a pleasant surprise. The inside ambience was modern, trendy, and really cute... although we were seated toward the back, which didn't feel quite as nice as the front dining area. Now onto the important part... the food Holy basil Wagyu beef - $22.99 | 4/10 This was unfortunately the biggest letdown of the night. I had read another review saying it wasn't their favorite, but still wanted to try it because my hubby loves pad kra pow and this seemed somewhat similar. Sadly... it missed the mark for us. The rice was very dry, the wagyu mince was dry and overly salty, and overall it was our least favorite dish of the night. Honestly one of the more disappointing Thai dishes I've had in a while. Would personally skip unless dry rice and salty minced beef is your thing. Papaya Salad + Soft Shell Crab - $18.99 + $2 | 8/10 This one was super tasty. We chose medium spice, and it had just the right kick. Great balance of sour, sweet, savory, crunch, and freshness with the papaya, carrots, peanuts, and dressing all working really well together. Definitely one of our favorites. Pad See Ew with Beef - $16.99 + $2 beef | 8/10 Really enjoyed this one. The standout was definitely the beef -- incredibly tender, probably some of the softest beef I've had in a Thai noodle dish. The noodles were flavorful, the veggies were cooked nicely, and overall just a very satisfying plate. Crispy Spicy Catfish - $20.99 | 8/10 Another favorite. Loved the crispy texture of the catfish with the sweet-spicy sauce. The bell peppers balanced it nicely, and I also loved those little peppercorn stems mixed in -- added a really fun flavor and texture. Very flavorful dish overall. Fried Calamari - $12.99 | 6/10 This one was just okay. Hubby and I always order calamari when we see it on a menu because we love comparing them from place to place, but this one came out pretty cold and didn't taste fresh out of the fryer. Could've skipped this one and not missed much. Overall: Service was very friendly and welcoming all night -- our servers were kind, attentive, and honestly probably what pushed the experience higher for us. for service. Food-wise, we enjoyed 3 out of the 5 dishes, so overall I'd personally land around 3/5 stars. A solid spot to try if you're in the area and wanting Thai food, especially if you're craving papaya salad, pad see ew, or catfish. Not sure it's somewhere I'd specifically drive out to Tustin for again, but I'm glad we gave it a try. Happy eats!

The chicken wings to start were super delicious. I was impressed how crispy and juicy it was as well as flavors. The rice with the sauce that comes with it is addicting. 4.8/5. The Pad See Ew was probably one of the best in Costa Mesa. It had so much flavor it was ridiculous. 5/5. The haunaman fried rice (I think that's how you spell it) was next tier. The sweet sausage and umami flavors of the dish it was gone quick. 5/5. The pad Thai was sus at first. They don't do chicken. Just tofu and shrimp. I guess that's the "authentic" way of making it back in the motherland. I got it anyways and it did not disappoint. So good. 4.9/5. Overall I would come back here. You just need to make reservations because this place gets packed fast and people come in crowds.

Even with Yelp Waitlist, the waiting time is at least 1 hour plus! Located in a small strip mall next to Ayres Hotel. Next to it is a Japanese restaurant. Same owner. They offer their menu at Hanuman. Once seated, service was fast. Food is not bad. Not your typical Thai taste. Depends on your taste bud. Some has the chef's interpretation. Nice plating. Taste is hit and miss with the combination. The family loves the fried chicken, not too much on sticky rice. Same with the curry sauce. Nice steak but the roti is not dry. Interesting combination with fresh tasty Yellowtail ceviche with Shrimp crackers. Will try different menu next time.

If you love this place as much as I do, let's rally around the people who work there and let them know they will be there when they reopen. Tustin is remodeling the plaza where this historic restaurant now is located. This beautiful location is moving to a new location seven miles away. The food here is amazing. There are so many unique dishes you can not find anywhere else. For example, last night I had lychee with ice. Fresh, ripe lychees, mixed with juice and ice. Simple, fresh, and amazing. I miss the place already. Go before it is gone.

They can't even spare a container for the Murtabak, it came wrapped in foil LOL. Like not even inside a container, it was just swished around the bag wrapped in foil. On top of it, it was soggy as F. Typically, restaurants will poke holes in the container to let it "breathe" in order to keep roti crisp even if you line it with foil and if they don't know about this, idk why they're even a restaurant. The lack of knowledge on this makes it questionable. Moving onto the Roti with curry, curry was meh. Usually you get hit with an aroma of inviting spices but this one just taste like what I find in frozen aisles or prepackaged cube curry. Nothing stands out. What a let down.. on top of that, roti seems like it was frozen, not fresh and soggy. It tasted like a scallion pancake without flavor, non of that puff pastry crusty, buttery and flakey texture you'd get from real authentic places. Food quality is definitely lacking here. In addition, the portion is so small, so laughable. (Refer to pic) The chicken satay came wrapped in a white paper bag which should have been foil so that it doesn't create moisture and then dry out the chicken. Idk what's with their packaging but again, you can't even spare a container? Instead you just opt to use a ton of plastic to wrap everything. It took such a long time to unwrap everything because they wrap every single sauce container, plastic container, paper container in Saran Wrap. A bit unenvironmental. The peanut sauce that came with the satay wasn't at all delicious nor authentic. Usually I'd want a refill of that sauce, but I end up just skipping it in the end because it wasn't even all that great. Lastly the laksa was decent but nothing to write home about. I've also never really had a laksa without prawns before, this version came with weird types of tofu (one that had a purple filling which had no taste) and fried tofu wedges (which is fine). There were two fish balls. Honestly this laksa tastes just decent, definitely not a signature item in any realm. I've had better laksa in Irvine from a place not specializing in laksa. I guess as long as you don't expect it to be like Ipoh Kopitiam quality then it's OK.

We got the combination fried rice, pad thai with crispy pork, pineapple curry with chicken. Combination Fried Rice- The rice had a nice garlicky taste and it was loaded with pork, beef, chicken, and shrimp. Perfectly seasoned too. Pad Thai with Crispy Pork- The noodles were soft and chewy and the sauce was a lovely combination of sweet and tangy. The crispy pork added a later of texture and flavor. Pineapple Curry with Chicken- The curry was bursting with flavor! The pineapple chunks added a burst of sweetness and freshness to every bite. The chicken was nice and tender. Great meal overall!

Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. The spices, freshness, and balance in the dishes were spot on. Each bite was satisfying and full of that bold, crave-worthy Thai taste. While the curry wasn't my personal favorite (the veggies were a bit undercooked for my taste), everything else more than made up for it. From the appetizers to the stir fry, everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Service was friendly and quick, and the owner/chef is always welcoming. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves Thai food. You can really taste the quality and heart in every dish!
