Worked together seamlessly, harmoniously and efficiently in an incredibly small HVAC closet. It was no easy task removing the old HVAC, but their professional knowledge base was more than adequate to address every issue they encountered. Installing the new HVAC onto the old cradle was no easy matter either. But again their teamwork and problem solving was superlative. Scott is a superb team leader and teacher, based on my observations. My furnace air blower was broken and replaced by Krafft serviceman. Everything is working well, but he recommended to leave the air blower on all the time. He said if the blower kept running all the time, it will make the blower last longer. I've checked it on the Internet and leaving air blower on all the time will break the unit sooner. From calling late Saturday night to Immediately coming to my home the very next morning (mind you we called another company and still waiting for their call), to their quick, professional and courteous techs. My husband and I have been devoted clients of this company for the last 30 years. We moved multiple times within VA and DC, and Kraft had always come to the rescue to replace or repair the HVAC systems, install mini-splits, and advise on the best set up for each house we had. The owner, Mr. Jay Krafft is a top notch professional, with an engineering academic education and decades of experience. Krafft company is Professional, reliable, knowledgeable, trustworthy. Our last project this summer was especially challenging - we were trying to finish a new construction in DC where the HVAC contractor ( brought in by the general contractor) bailed out mid-way with lots of money already spent on equipment and partial ducts work. When it became clear that we are not getting him to come back to finish the job, we turned to Jay Krafft. Once again, he came to our rescue. He assessed the situation, took detailed stock of what has been already installed and what was left in the boxes, identified several problematic areas that were not done correctly, prepared a plan and very reasonable budget. We used them to do our normal HVAC service a month ago. We paid good money to NOT have the HVAC breakdown when it is 100F outside. Turns out they did not clear the drainage pipe. The system shut off due to a back up (as we have a shut off to prevent Leakes). By clearing the drain myself, I finally got the system to turn on. Now, it is running, but not cooling. It seems that the refrigerant was not checked during the service either. I called the service number, that is listed as the 24/7 emergancy service twice as it is 100F outside. The woman that answered was condescending, rude, and nasty. She asked if we had a contract with the company, usually, yes- but it expired. It is usually renewed with the next service. I think that is what put us at the end of the line, if there is one. It has been 7 hours since I first called. We got no call back or service, and at this point, expect none. Most likely the reason our HVAC system, that is only 2 years old, is not working is due us paying for a service that never happened. Now we are cooking, with no help and no relief. read more

We are new at our townhouse in Old Town Alexandria VA. Everything HVAC has been good all summer until the heavy rain started. Water was pouring onto the stove. AND ice cold water was making small puddles in the upstairs bedroom. But no strains or spots on the ceiling. I called to make an appointment and the woman on the phone demanded I tell her if we needed A 6ft ladder or an 8ft ladder . How was I supposed to know that. Then a man came on and refused to make an appointment. He said "its a roof problem - call a roofer" We were leaving in 2 days for a wedding. We needed help. We got a roofer and they helped us find an HVAC person. Both things got fixed but I'm still bummed at being treated so poorly, so rudely. Kraft seems like one of those companies that is just too busy for new folks. The secretary was duds. The boss man was more rude. Our heat pump went out in 90 F August; Krafft promptly answered the phone and was able to schedule us within 24 hours. The technician arrived on time and quickly spotted the problem - a failed capacitor on the outside unit. He identified that the unit was still under warranty, installed a loaner part, then returned a week later to install the warranty-approved replacement part. I am so grateful that he did this without my having to contact the manufacturer and go through the process of activating the warranty, myself. I was told what the service charge would be when I made the appointment, then was told what the entire cost would be on the first visit (e.g. only a reasonable service charge for each visit). Krafft takes credit cards and emailed me a full receipt immediately. Wish all service providers were so thorough, thoughtful, and trustworthy. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Totally recommend having a service contract with KRAFFT. You won't be disappointed. We've had one for 17 years and the previous owners before us. On the evening of July 3rd we realized our condensation pump failed and was pumping water into our basement. On July 4th we called Krafft at 5am - we were the first service call for Pablo to replace the pump. (We paid for the pump.) On Friday 7/22 approximately 8:30pm we called again - our A/C stopped working and the temp in the house was quickly climbing. Antonio, arrived approximately 9:00pm flashlight in hand and replaced the capacitor. We were surprised and very excited knowing just how hot it's been, it's late on a Friday night, and the weekend in the DC/NOVA area is going to feel like 110 degrees. All of the Krafft folks (service center operators and technicians) are wonderful!! They are pleasant and professional and we've gotten to know several of the technicians as they come to our home twice a year to check and service our A/C-furnace for the last 17 years. We have had an annual service contract with Krafft for over 30 years. Yes, over 30 years. Jeff is great. Always pleased, they recently outdid themselves. Our 57 year old house (and ductwork) could not keep the top floor cool without freezing downstairs. We asked for a special consult / sales visit. J. Krafft spent over 2 hours checking this and that, and doing some math. He explained what could be changed for free, for hundreds, and for thousands. The free change completely solved the imbalance problem! Since we already had a variable speed fan motor, run the fan 24/7 (and close this door and keep top floor doors open). We always had fan linked to a/c. Who knew? Krafft knew. Thank you Krafft for the good work over the decades, and the special help this summer. read more

He checked all that needed to be checked and carefully cleaned out the accumulated dust and tested the gas levels. He was careful to maintain the CV-19 protocol and summed up the visit that we needed to change the filter. Fantastic service and communication! We had our 15+ yr old AC go out in the middle of a heatwave and the folks at Krafft sent over a technician the next day. He informed us that we would need a new unit and gave us a number of options to choose from and explained what each option would cost and do (mostly efficiency ratings). The install team was extremely professional and conscientious (wore booties in the house) and cleaned up afterwards. Oh, and the total cost was very reasonable ( I priced shopped too). We have had a labor contract with Krafft since purchasing our house in 2001, which conveyed from previous owners. We have called upon them many times in the past for various reasons (primarily for our twice a year clean-and-check service) and when we had a 1964 (yes I said 1964) A/C unit replaced a few years back, among many other things. Yes, the techs have come and gone but recently I called to have a technician come and check our 1980-something furnace that seemed to be clunking when it shuts off. The day of the service, there was an A-1 Heating & A/C van in our driveway. I called Krafft back and asked if they were sub-contracting and was told A-1 was being acquired by Krafft, and yes, they were legit. The tech who came out was Terrence Henderson. He was early for the appointment (which is never a bad thing) and more polite than you could ask for. Never tried to up-sell me or talk me into replacing the unit. He inspected the system and turned it on and off several times in order to hear what I was talking about. He explained that it was not the heating system itself but rather the expanding/contracting of the ducts that were causing the clunking. He was very knowledgeable about his work and I will ask for him every time we call Krafft for service. read more

Turns out they wanted to charge me over $2000 just to weld two refrigerant line together. This is something anyone that has taken high school shop could do and would cost $50 in tools and 30 minutes to do. Turns out my friend who recommended them to me also got ripped off. read more

My DC home needs replacement of 2 heat pump HVAC systems, 1 system is SpacePak and SpacePak gives Krafft as referral. R22 Freon coolant is being phased out. Seeking 3 estimates to make decision. 05/02, I called Krafft to arrange an appointment for an estimator to visit my home, 05/17 was earliest date, I accepted it. 05/17 I took day off to be home. Krafft employee shows up shortly after 4 pm. He looks at current systems installed, writes down info on 3" x 5" wire bound note pad. He's not going to perform any estimate, only gather information to write up a ticket to hand over to someone else at Krafft and they will get back to me. He's here for about 15 minutes. 05/19 - 10am, I called Krafft to follow-up, described what has happened. They take my info and say they will call me back. 05/19 - 3pm, No call back from Krafft, I called again, explained everything again. They transferred me to Mr. Kraffts voicemail where I left information again. 05/20 - No callback from Krafft. Nearly 3 weeks of getting absolutely nowhere with Krafft is disturbing. I have 2 systems to replace and Krafft seems ill prepared to give timely attention to provide an estimate. read more

PAINS me to post this review, BUT BEWARE- this company will leave you without an HVAC unit and abandon you in the middle of a repair, then lie to you saying they are not abandoning your job. WHAT HAPPENED: This company was paid to do a lot of work on 12 separate HVAC units. They did NOT PERFORM all the work they were paid for, where 2 units were leaking & they never leveled or repaired those leaks though they were paid to do so. An exterior unit was broken for almost 3 months they were "working" on it. When they learned it needed more parts, they had their tech - NOT a mgmt person or owner - tell me they were not going to finish the repair after 2.5 months of supposedly working on it, meanwhile the tenants living there had no HVAC. Their excuse was that payment wasn't made for the unit to be repaired, totally ignoring the fact they had not repaired the unit and after being paid thousands of dollars for repairs they did not fully complete on other HVAC systems and refused to warranty or remediate their incomplete work. Their statement? "we are not making enough money" to work on these. So they abandoned the job. The manufacturer seemed to believe some of the repairs occurred because of some error made by their techs. BOTTOM LINE? NOT RELIABLE OR TRUSTWORTHY....... and MY BIG APOLOGY FOR THE NUMEROUS REFERRALS TO THIS COMPANY @ the beginning of the relationship with them. Thousands of dollars later? Left with an angry tenant & an abandoned job by Krafft A-1 - who is neither Krafty or A-1 rated! read more

Of all the HVAC companies I called for an emergency outage, Krafft was the most responsive. I have an older unit (house was built in 1984). I expected to hear (yet again) that I should replace the AC since it is so old. Or that the refrigerant was no longer available. The Krafft technician replaced a capacitor (it was leaking oil) and showed me on his gauges where the refrigerant was at proper levels and the output copper tube (back to the house) was at the right temperature. It cost me a trip charge and parts. This was the most honest dealing I've ever had with an HVAC company -- I will buy from them again and do recommend them to my family and friends. read more

Was told that the soonest they could get someone here was Monday. I called at 9am, by 10am I had seen four Kraft service trucks in my neighborhood. We solicited bids from four companies to replace our entire HVAC system in our home, and selected Krafft Service because of price and their reputation on Angie's List and Yelp. The installation was scheduled and completed as agreed, and the job site was clean when the team left. We had some problems with the condensation drain line (already in place), which caused the coil to not work properly, making the house very hot. Krafft's scheduler, M. Swanger, sent two different staff members to fix the problem, but the coil would still not operate effectively. Jay Krafft (the owner) sent the company's Operations Manager, who replaced the entire coil and set a plan to permanently fix the problem, with a very creative solution from Jay Krafft himself. Today, all works perfectly, and we could not be happier with the service, our new HVAC system, and the professional team from Krafft Service. Highly recommended. read more
