The wife and I both got the lunch hibachi meal with steak and shrimp, they were tasty and filling. As much as we liked the food though, the service was outstanding. And the interior of Izumi is comfortable, quiet, and the tables and chairs, are all clean. I got the red clam and the shrimp sushi. Both came out fresh and tasty. I ordered lunch takeout over the phone. Arrived and went inside to pick it up and experienced a female employee at the host/pickup stand who wasn't very friendly. I believe she helped me a few months ago and had the same unpleasant demeanor with me when I picked up an order. It seems like she is annoyed that I am picking up an order. I was going to leave a small tip regardless but she skipped past that option once the credit card machine once I handed her my card. Hibachi, one of the greatest plates ever invented. First timer at Izumi and it might be the best around here. My Steak/Chicken Hibachi portion was generous, food was hot, flavors weren't lacking & I was FULL! Miso Soup is never a miss anywhere I've been either! My Boba Milk Tea came in a beer mug which I thought was hilarious, I definitely wasn't expecting that big of a drink! The tea was good, boba cooked properly, no complaints. My friend ordered the Shrimp Tempura appetizer & I got to try a shrimpy. It was unbelievably crunchy and so buttery inside! Usually not a shrimp person but these are pretty good. It was as expected, 4/5 stars as the average user suggested. It was quiet and not busy when we arrived. The waitress was very courteous and sweet to us. We ordered yakisoba and I ordered a dragon roll for an appetizer. My meal was a sushi dish chefs special. It was quite nice. We love a good sushi night and were stopping in town so decided to drop in for dinner. They had nice decor and we were greeted as soon as we walked in and shown to our table. With the server coming by shortly after to grab our drink order. We like to order a variety of rolls so we can share and also try more of the menu. We ordered 5 rolls: Tiger, Twin tower, Dancing girl, Firework roll, and Rock n roll. They were all sooo delicious! We had a good variety of spice, flavor, and texture. First, I'll start with the good... The restaurant sits smack dab in the middle of Boardman's busy restaurant/shopping area. Prime location that's easy to find and it's beautifully lit at night with colorful sprinkler type lights. The inside is clean with esthetically pleasing decor, a great spot for family dinners, friend meetups, dates, etc. We were immediately seated upon arrival with plenty of seating available. They have a bar area where you can watch TV or the chef preparing sushi. About the food... Asparagus roll = 10/10 Hollywood roll = 4/10 Chicken Yakisoba = 2/10 The asparagus roll was delicious, and while it's not hard to mess up, it's worth the mention because the asparagus was cooked perfect. Next, the Hollywood Roll, which was the most disappointing sushi I've ever tasted in life. For one, the way the roll is advertised isn't how its prepared. It mentions the roll being deep fried and the salad being in the middle of the plate with the sushi in the middle. Well, they dump the watery, runny salad on top of the roll and then expect you to eat it. The salad consisted of shredded cucumber and surimi shreds mixed in some type of mayo and water...? No flavor and all. When I asked the waitress if that's how it's normally served, she said no and that the chef was different that night. She told the manager who said they would remake it as indicated. Did they do it? Well, if that meant just dumping the salad in the middle of a takeout container, then putting the soggy sushi roll around it and bringing it back out to me....they did just that. Can't say I'm shocked, just disappointed. The Chicken yakisoba had a horrible aftertaste that I couldn't put my finger on and to make matters worst, the Chicken was tough like shoe leather. They were pretty thin straps of chicken so I'm not even sure how this was even possible. Needless to say, I'm sure they have amazing dishes but 2 of the 3 I ordered just weren't good...at all. I'll stick with Mizu up the street. Service is always stellar and I have yet to taste a bad roll or bad anything else there for that matter. read more

BUT what is hidden under a veil of polite smiles and cheerful servers is a delicious menu, filled with a multitude of rolls to send your palate and taste buds into a different realm. Today we, (my lovely food critique assistant girlfriend) got the: Angry Dragon Roll, Spicy Lovers Roll, and the Super Spider Roll (NOT to be confused with the spider roll or the Spider-Man roll). But, and this might actually knock this place down to 2 stars -- they didn't provide any plain soy sauce in my delivery order. Instead, they provided a couple of flavored, odd, not that good, soy sauces. One was vinegary, and the other spicy. Both were a bad match and left a bad taste in my mouth (literally). Had they given regular packets of soy sauce, this would have been a solid 4, maybe even five. I admire the effort, but it was not good. We couldn't finish what we ordered. read more

I have reviewed Izumi in the past but wanted to give a big shout out to them in regard to their Covid-19 setup. They have a completely contactless pickup system that is awesome! Order online, go to pickup, wait until they text you and get your order from a "teller window" like at a bank. You give your order number and they put the food in a drawer and slide it out to you. Use the online option on their website rather than Grub Hub or DoorDash, they make more money if you order direct and pickup yourself!
