My dog was scheduled for grooming and he was wasn't being too co-operative. Told me they gave him a bath and we should come and get him. They proceeded to charge me $50 for a bath, the full grooming is $65. $50 for a bath!!!!!!! I couldn't be more disappointed, I've been going there for years for food and grooming for all three of my dogs. You've just lost a customer for life!!!! read more

THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Today I took my dogs for a nail grind service. The dog groomer was great. They always are but I am giving 1 star to this place because of the customer service, specifically the front desk employee named "JODY." I've been taking my dogs here for the last 5 years. A year ago I adopted 2 Chihuahuas and since then they have gone for several grooming sessions. They obviously have on file their vaccinations records. You can't get service without that. Jody tells me he does not have them on file. He only has Balthazar's ( my dead dog). I have sent them months ago. They would have never be seen without them. He started talking to me loudly. He is a large, tall White man. Very intimidating. People started looking at him ( he was facing me so he could not see how they were starting at him). I started looking for my dog's vaccinations. I asked him to lower his voice and he said "this is how I speak." "If you can't provide this , we'll have to refuse service." I did not reply as I realized I was talking to a non-reasonable person. I found the docs and the pets were taking care of. I will not return and I feel this employee needs to learn how to respectful to clients, specially women. read more

Genuinely upset at the interaction I had here about 15 minutes ago. Let me start it by saying this is where we take our 2 dogs to get groomed and purchase their food. I came in today to restock on my pups food and get my pom some bday goodies ... there was a promotion going on, so I proceeded to ask the clerk one SIMPLE question about where the goat milk was and he was so bothered to even respond. He was rude, aggravated, terribly unfriendly and unprofessional. I was floored. I have interacted with this guy before and never thought anything ill about him but today was different. The way he was treating myself and the one other customer was totally uncalled for. Instead of purchasing everything I came in for I simply left with one bag of food, only because I needed it. This interaction was probably of of the worst customer service interactions I've ever had .. and that's saying A LOT. I won't be shopping or grooming my pups here anymore, bummed! read more

Cassie did a great job grooming my pup! He is a bit of a drama king but she has done a great job and listens to my instructions when I drop him off. Always done in about 2 hours as quoted. He is a cavalier King Charles so his grooming can sometimes be specific, but Cassie has done a great job with him! We shop here for our cat, who has had digestive issues and had to change brands recently. We have been to Streeterville and South Loop locations. The selection is fine in both but the staff have more 'attitude' in Streeterville (big suprise) but since that one has grooming services there are ALWAYS dogs in there, and it's cute/fun/loud! The South Loop location gave us good advice, so that makes up for it being kind of cramped. The personal service is an advantage with smaller stores vs 'chains', who also have a lot to offer. While expensive, they have good deals (buy 11 bags, get 12 free in some brands) and sometimes there are coupons attached to for instant use. Don't be shy about asking for a sample. read more

I've used Kriser's grooming services before and have been extremely happy with them. However, this was the first time I was really disappointed. I picked up my Pomsky from Kriser's on Ohio. I was explicit with the groomer, Crystal regarding the shampoo, deshedding, and trim/clean up. I informed her that my dog had a bad experience with the last groomer, so she may be a little nervous/anxious and I was extremely nervous about my dog's hair being cut too short or shaved. When I came to pick up my dog, she looked like a 2 year old had taken scissors to her coat and her beautiful long tail had been very bluntly snipped off. When I informed her that this was not acceptable, She blamed my dog stating that my 15lbs pomsky was fussy and anxious. That she couldn't give her a proper trim because she was moving too much.... As if it was my dog's fault. Zero apology or empathy. As a dog groomer, I would expect that she sees this type of situation and is trained to handle something like this more frequently than not. I was also told that since I did not sign the deshedding release form, they should not have trimmed/deshedded my dog but they did it anyway...I'm not sure if they were insinuating that they were doing me a favor or admitting that they did something against store policy... The girl working the register did discount me $50 and stated that she didn't want me to leave unhappy. IF you take your dog there - make sure to bring photos and explain in detail how you want your dog to be groomed (or not groomed). I've used Kriser in the past and never had this issue, hopefully you won't either. Photos provided of the cut as well as what she should look like. You can see her tail feathering have clearly been snipped off and the blunt cut on her sides. read more

Kukla has been sporting a shorter, fancier hairdo this past year. She's been going to Kriser's for her trims more often than in the past and they've been doing a good job. Her first trip wasn't great, she left with a trimmer scrape on her chest. I called to let them know and the manager scheduled her next trim with a different groomer and at no cost. Her last three trims have been perfect. They have a good selection of food, treats, toys, and clothes. Their prices are a little higher than the chain competitors, but you get what you pay for. Super rude clerk. I just dropped in to see if I can find quality treats for my cat, I didn't, but I saw there is a grooming room and a cat inside so I stood there, with sufficient distance to observe. There was a big dog inside that won't stop barking, and the store clerk yelled at me "Ma'am, please don't disturb the dog! " I wasn't disturbing anyone besides just looking from a distance! As a matter of fact, that big dog continued barking even after I left the store. Very unpleasant experience. The Petco store staff in River North was much more helpful and that's a chain store. Not a fan. I took my almost 14 year old, 17-pound cavachon (Pearl) for a grooming on a Sunday morning at 10 am. My pup was the first appointment and I collected her around 1 pm. I was surprised to have a Special Handling fee ($18) added to the $79 grooming charge because "Pearl was being difficult". Never in almost 14 years has any groomer said that Pearl was difficult to handle. The groomer said she did her best. If they had to charge $18 additional handling of a gentle almost 14 year old, 17-pound dog, then her "best" is not good enough. That's her basic job requirement to be able to handle her clients without a special handling charge. I did not have a chance to examine her work closely at Kriser's as my Uber was waiting for me. Upon getting home, I noticed the nick on her front right leg which showed that it had bled. Again, we have never had that experience with past groomers. Perhaps, that nick caused Pearl to be uncomfortable and in pain for the duration of the appointment. I emailed this same feedback to the store's email account about how utterly disappointed I was with the work and the experience. The store's assistant manager called me promptly that afternoon to apologize and offered to rectify the situation. I am thankful for his care and attention. There is no satisfactory remedy because It's the groomer's word versus mine of Pearl's nature. I took pictures of the area on my pup's right leg. The groomer said she did not nick it. She said the area got attention because of knotting. Again, her words and I have no proof of knotting. Lesson: I will examine my pup more closely after a groom! Lesson: I will need a new groomer. read more

After lot of disappointment in groomers around the city I decided to take a friends recommendation and give this place a go! My little guy was groomed by Brian. The moment I met him I knew my search had come to an end, I found my perfect groomer. Brian was very sweet to my dog and I. Since it was his first time meeting meeting my pup he said he was going to be about 2-3 hours so he could "take some time to know him" so my dog feels comfortable. Talk about service!! I left there so happy and I didn't even see the finished product yet. But wait... it gets better. This was the best haircut my dog has ever received hands down. My dog has been groomed at Kriser's before, and we loved it. However, with a cancellation from our groomer, we booked with China. This was the worst grooming experience I have ever witnessed. My dog was shaved down to his skin and was traumatized for a month after. A once happy and cheerful dog became quite literally depressed. He would not eat and was constantly licking at the razor burn on his stomach and legs which turned into a red, bumpy rash. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially China, simply the worst kind of groomer as she blamed my dog for the results. read more

We have been bringing our dogs to this Kriser's for over three years for walk-in grooming services and the occasional birthday/holiday treat. Kriser's is a little more boutique-y (my husband calls them "the Whole Foods of pet stores") so it can be on the pricey side. Both our dogs are rescues and do not enjoy getting their nails trimmed. Our one dog is medium-sized but a fighter so sometimes it takes two groomers to get the job done, and while our puppy will not fight, she is very vocal and will screech when she is frightened. I always apologize for my dogs' behavior but the groomers continue to tell me how they are both "angels." Even though I wouldn't call them "angels," it is really reassuring to have groomers who understand rescues and will be so caring towards them. The staff at Kriser's is also very knowledgeable and helpful when you need suggestions. I love that they have Yappy Hour events and bring in rescue groups. It's an overall great neighborhood vibe! read more

What a sweet nieghborhood store. It's a healthier option for your pets of all kinds and they have a grooming room on the side. They have always been kind when I run in for something but it is more on the expensive side so be aware when you enter. They allow you to bring your dogs in and always have treats for them behind the counter. We decided to try a new place to get our pup groomed. We quickly realized we were picky dog parents about how our dog was cut. We wanted a place that was convenient and close to home, and being in River North, Kriser's was a nice walk just over into Streeterville. We had been into Kriser's before, and every time we visit, the staff is always wonderfully warm and friendly. We were promptly introduced to our groomer, Bryan, who spent time listening to our requests for how we wanted our pup groomed. He was patient and receptive to all our requests! We wanted the classic Westie cut, with more of a rounder face than the typical terrier cut. Upon our return, we didn't know what to expect, but were happily surprised that Mochi was cut and groomed exactly how we had wanted! Bryan met us, told us he really enjoyed working with Mochi, and had some recommendations on how to lessen the brown staining around his mouth, which has been a chronic issue for us. We absolutely recommend this place for grooming. The price is bit more expensive, but worth it for the quality and convenience of the location. Worst grooming experience ever!! I own a Sheltie. I specifically asked if they had knowledge on how to groom one. He assured me they did. That was clearly a lie. I also asked for a quote. He told me $76 but charged me double that. Another lie, and when I called after my husband brought our pup home, he denied telling me that when I had called. Yet another lie. I was also very clear when I met the groomers, Nova, that I definitely did NOT want his back legs shaved or cut so short that he looks like a Corgi. When my husband brought him home I almost broke down in years. He was almost shaved, which if extremely dangerous for a Sheltie. They need their fur to protect them against the heat and cold. When I called to tell them the reason my husband didn't leave a tip, they couldn't care less. I will never return there and told them this. If this review helps another Sheltie, or any other breed that needs detailed grooming, at least that helps. The only reason I even went to Krisers was because our last breeder closed, and was told when I called they had knowledge of grooming a Sheltie. BIG mistake. DON'T GO TO KRISER FOR GROOMING. I have been going to Kriser's (south loop) for years. My groomer left so I decided to stay and try a new groomer. THE NEW GROOMER SHAVED ALL THE HAIR OFF MY BERNIE-DOODLE! When I brought her in I met with the new groomer, Mel. I admitted my baby was a mess. Then asked her to clean up her legs, butt and face. She noticed knots on her legs and said she would have to cut her close. I told her fine. When I arrived to get her and saw Mel had shaved my babies entire body, I started crying and asking why she would have shaved the whole dog when I had clearly said leg, butt, face. I don't even recognize my dog. As I am crying and asking why she did this, I had never asked or given my permission to shave her Mel said "her hair will grow back" AT NO POINT DID SHE APOLOGIZE. I did get my money back put the assistant manager never apologized and told me she thought she looked cute. read more

I have been looking for a groomer for Cici, my collie for awhile and Taylor does such an amazing job with Cici. Taylor takes her time cutting cici's hair and ensuring that she's fully dried. Cici loves coming to get groomed and has really bonded with Taylor. awful. awful awful awful. i went for a groom and spent a hard 15 minutes discussing the cut that i wanted for my dog. was very clear that i didn't want her shaved or cut short, and that if for any reason they felt they needed to cut short that i wanted for them to please call me. i told them i would still pay but just take her home... made it very clear that i'd rather no haircut than a short one. i also asked for tapering around the snout and for them to not crate her. they listened to NOTHING that i asked for and couldn't have been nastier about it! if you actually care about how your dog looks and is treated, stay as far away from this horrible establishment as possible!!!! also: none of their groomers are pet first aid certified, which is honestly scary. read more

I am glad this store is here. Very helpful as the nearest Petsmart is 2 miles away. They have good toys, great treats for dogs (cupcakes, cookies, etc) for special occasions, and a very helpful staff. I wish they sold a bigger variety of dog food though. But I get it. They are a smaller store and not at all like a big commercial PetsSmart. They have seasonal item sales often and send out emails for various events and other promotional sales too. Make sure to sign up on their email list.. They give you 15% (I think thats the amount) during your pets birthday month! Staff is knowledgable and helpful. My dog's last groom was done by Petsmart and they shaved him completely without my consent and he ended up looking like a totally different dog. It took me a while to trust another groomer and after doing a bit of research, I decided to make an appointment at Kriser's in Streeterville. The earliest weekend appointment I could get was 4 weeks later (that was a good sign). Look's like I've found a regular groomer for my pup! Deceptive service pricing, overpriced products, albeit convenient location. Went to this shop for my dog's nail trimming which is advertised for $10, and was forced into nail grinding for $15 (150% of my expected price) without any explanation beforehand or me agreeing to it. Afterwards, when I questioned why it was more expensive, I was told that nail grinding is better for dogs so they did grinding. Shouldn't I have a say or an explanation of why someone is doing something different to my dog than what I wanted in the first place? I understand the idea of "upselling" as it is a business, but they skipped the selling part and just went to deception. At the end of the day I paid the $15, because I don't agree with just not paying for a service, but I believe these types of practices are immoral. Honestly, if it was explained to me beforehand I probably would've preferred it, but I don't believe anyone should be tricked into something - especially if they're doing something to your dog that you don't know about. Even after I voiced my concerns, there was no attempt to fix the experience. I won't be returning - can you imagine if it was more than a nail trimming? What else are they doing to deceive customers? Maybe nothing else, but at this point I can't trust this establishment. There are other places for dog services nearby, and let's be honest - you can get everything else online. Kriser's website says the following in their "story" - "It wasn't easy to get people in the Midwest to try natural pet food, but he kept at it, always focusing on "up-helping," not up-selling".
