While I had the occasion to be way out of my usual turf recently, I spied a Krispy Kreme which we do not have in my neck of the woods. I've had Krispy Kreme before, while traveling or when a family visitor brings some as a kind gesture - in any case, always welcome and delicious! Now, I spied the unique sign and remembered the advertisements for their Reese's FILLED peanut butter doughnuts! I went on an adventure - hoping for first taste of this limited time treat! The location is in a small shopping center right off main roads and freeway US 101. The building looks like most other Krispy Kremes, and featured an outdoor eating area as well. The location was clean, and well decorated. One big attraction for me (first time in a long time type reaction!) was to watch a billion (more or less!) raised donuts get made, from coming off a rack, into a fry bath and then coated with a curtain of sugary glaze. Too much! I watched for a while, fascinated by the whole process. Eventually I pulled myself away and went to the counter, finding dozens of flavors from which to choose. I picked a few of my favorites (key lime, chocolate filled with custard, NOT the Krispy Kreme - a kind of whipped creme - and a couple of filled Oreo cookies). I then ordered the Reese's donuts, and to my complete horror and dismay, I was told "they were out right now - they go fast!" Granted, it was early evening, but for the love of Sweetness, make MORE! Ughhhh . . . my journey for first taste of these would continue. Luckily, I had my back-up dozen . . . and I noticed a display of milks in many flavors! I spied a Root Beer and an Orange Cream among them, so I took a couple for tasting. I love milk, and chocolate milk is a runner-up - but these milks are delicious! They come in heavy glass bottles, but are small, and a little pricey. However, try one - or two - and you'll find a new treat! The Root Beer and Orange Cream flavors came through nicely, with the silky texture of milk, a perfect liquid delight. I will look for new flavors next time - maybe Banana? Other than the Reese's let down, my visit here was a nice break. Good donuts, new milk flavors, a clean and nicely decorated building and a conveyor belt of endless donuts - everything came together, and the staff was very patient and friendly with myself and others trying to decide on a few donut flavors out of too many choices! My quest shall continue, and I suggest you start your own if you haven't already. read more

I went yesterday as we were in the area and I saw a krispie kream. I haven't been to one in almost 20 years so I said why not. Walked in and omg the smells. So yummy. The display cases were full of yummy creations. I was excited. So why the low rating? There was one other person waiting, then myself. Waiting, waiting and more waiting. No acknowledgement. "Um hello" I realize there is a drive thru. There seemed to be only 2 employees. It was 2pm. But at least acknowledge that we are there and you will be with us shortly. The employee doing the drive thru was busy boxing up donuts while the other employee was standing back where the donuts are processing. I made eye contact more than once and it was crickets. A third person came in. We are all standing around waiting. I'm about to walk out because the customer service is basically non existent. But I really wanted a donut. So I waited. Finally the one from the back came to assist us. I ordered 2 cream filled and a cup of holes aka munchkins. The cream filled one was definitely worth the wait. The holes eh, were just ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here as it's a bit pricey. But if in the area i might try the drive thru for a hopefully quick donut fix. read more

The cashier literally crumples the coupon printed out with the credit card receipt in front of you. I had to request it several times and make a big deal out of it. krispy kreme is always a solid choice for a donut. its even better when the hot sign is on because that means the glaze donuts are going to melt in your mouth. eat a dozen guilt free. let future self worry about it later. they keep making new types of donuts to keep up with the krazes which makes us coming back to try them all. their newest donut is the original glaze with filling in the middle. i'd say thats not a winner as its cold and i prefer the hot melt in your mouth style. overall though good place that keeps all the donut choices available. friendly staff and never a long line. read more

The customer service here seriously needs improvement. Tonight I pulled into drive-thru line. I waited for 5 secs and no one answered at the ordering (with speaker) area. I thought perhaps it's OK just to pull into the pay windows to order since there is no car in front of me. My car is the only car in the drive-thru lane. I waited at the pay windows for 5 mins and could see the lady was busy with the store customers. I patiently waited there and finally she came.Not waiting for me to tell what my order is, she started yelled at me: "I am busy. You should have ordered back there. I am busy.". I asked her: "So you want me to go back there?". She continued to give me looks and yelled: "I am busy". What customer service this is! Throw her own frustration out on the customers?! An economical and fun treat during these tough times is Krispy Kreme donuts. I've always been a fan of the original-glazed ever since I heard of them when someone said Bill Clinton used to fly them into the White House. And while I don't go often (calorie-wise prob up there), in moderation, the donuts remain a delectable and crave-worthy treat. The Mountain View store runs the conveyor belt at 5:30 pm and surprisingly, they didn't have the 'Fresh, Hot donuts' sign flashing. But quite a few patrons seemed to be in the know as a line soon formed for the original glazed hot off the conveyor belt as they were meant to be eaten. At $0.89 each, a Krispy Kreme donut is a bargain and watching the machines make batch after batch is just an added show. For a change of pace, I also tried the raspberry filled donut and I have to say they were quite good too. Almost like an original glazed, but with jelly filling. Mmmmm.... But only the original glazed comes off hot from the conveyor and only at 5:30 pm (even if the sign is off). Check it out for yourself! Maybe I'll see you when I go next year. :) read more

I never give low to average ratings, I'm a very all or nothing kinda gal, but my experience at Krispy Kreme on a Sunday night was so middle-of-the-road and mediocre, it's worthy of no more than a 2 star rating. The Krispy Kreme of old (like 5 years ago or so) was amazing. You could count on piping hot, FRESH donuts from morning until close. The red light would almost always be on every time I'd visit. On Sunday, however, around 9pm, my sis and I headed over for our after dinner dessert and I was disappointed that there was no hot light on. It was her first time at a Krispy Kreme, too! I was further disappointed that the dozen glazed donuts we got were stale, cold, and tasted of overly sweetened old oil. You know that old oil taste. It's very distinct - like they hadn't changed out the oil in a while. Who the heck wants to eat a donut and be left with the taste of stale oil in their mouth afterwards? I'll tell you who - no one. In my early 20's, I would drive 20 mins for a Krispy Kreme doughnut only to be disappointed in their freshness each time.... BUT NOT THIS TIME!!! Sonniee Boiee and I celebrated Pirates Day (Sept 19th) with KKD.... and we did it in style - dressed as pirates!! As a reward, KKD gave us a box each of delicious light heaven sent doughnuts - that's 2 dozen worth of doughnuts we got for free! Just for dressing up. KKD was also giving out single donuts to folks who spoke like a pirate! KUDOS to you KKD event planning team!! This was a fun event to celebrate at your Mountain View location. On to the doughnuts!!!! I gave one box to my siblings and the other I almost inhaled by myself BUT I DID HAVE INTENTIONS of sharing with J and the kid.... Who hates Krispy Kreme?! Not this girl! I actually didn't like Krispy Kreme until later in life. I've been missing out! Their original glazed donuts are where it's at! They're so good and fluffy! I'm less of a fan of cakey donuts so Krispy Kreme is just right for me. They bake them fresh very often so be sure to grab a box of fresh donuts. When they're fresh they're very squishy and the donut just melts in your mouth. If you wait a bit and the glaze hardens but the interior is still soft, they're still delicious. It depends on your taste - I prefer when the glaze hardens a bit. read more

Finally went for the first time on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised to not see a long line when I got there. I picked out five donuts, paid for five donuts and got three donuts. I'm not very good a math, but even I know paying for five and only getting three doesn't add up. IF I go again, I will watch the employee box the donuts and check again before leaving. The donuts were okay, nothing special. We tried the special Reese's Pieces caramel donuts. They were light and fluffy but very sweet. However, my horse loved them! God I can be fickle. I kind of made fun of Krispy Kreme, as well as Starbuck's, in my review for Chuck's Donuts. And now I'm giving both of them good reviews. But the way I look at it, any place that allows me to write for 2-4 hours and get a good amount of work done deserves a bare minimum of 3 stars. I have to give Krispy Kreme props because I spent about 4 hours writing there a few weeks ago when I was stuck in Mountain View dong "cat rescue" stuff (I'm not even going to try to explain the situation). I had a horrible case of writer's block and needed to get to a place in the area which was open late, well lit, and would help me siphon ungodly amounts of sugar and caffeine into my system for hours in a row. And the Mountain View Krispy Kreme enabled me to do just that. There's a great spot in that location, behind the drink fountain, where I can sort of hide and not be bothered, and I have to say I did some of my best writing in that spot, to the point where I ended up going there like 3 times in one week. I do think Krispy Kreme is a little overhyped. They have a really great name but their donuts are too... squishy. I prefer the big fluffy type from your average donut shop, hot or not. But I love the fact that they're open fairly late (later than Starbucks in my hood). Their lighting is pretty good and bright. The temperature is good inside; they don't leave their doors wide open like Happy Donuts and give you that passive aggressive vibe like they're really trying to get rid of you (true, they couldn't really SEE me, hidden behind the soda fountain, but... still...) And you can't beat the fact that they'll hand you a free donut while you're just standing there in line, waiting, eyes glazing at the donuts as if you're slowly turning into one. I had a weird craving for Krispy Kreme the other day and dragged the family here. First thing my dad's comment was wow, I can't believe this place is actually still open. Which is actually quite true. Krispy Kreme used to be the staple birthday party treat that kids would bring in to class in elementary school. I used to love those days and the people who actually brought in a variety of doughnuts so you wouldn't just be stuck with the boring glazed ones. Sadly times changes and Krispy Kreme no longer gives you that free one glazed doughnut when you first walk in. Those were the good days. They are master manipulators at their prices though. You'll notice that prices are split by a single donut vs a dozen. In case you were wondering, a dozen is $9.99, a single is $1.49, and if you want to get six it's $7.46 or some other odd specific number. Anyways. It kinda sucks because it basically means you have to get a dozen if you don't want to feel like you've been super ripped off for your doughnuts... but unless you're going to a party or you have a million friends you really, really do not and should not be eating that many doughnuts in a day. I went with the dumb move and ended up getting six which was a total rip off but at least still cheaper than the dozen? yay? Anyways, donuts here are pretty prime. Maybe it's because I was raised on Krispy Kreme, but I really don't like donuts anywhere else. To me, the Krispy Kreme donut is the standard donut to which I compare other donuts to oddly enough. It's not exactly a culinary masterpiece, but it's still pretty darn good. Their glazed ones taste just like they did in the 1990s. I admit it. I like doughnuts (or "donuts"). I once purchased three dozen during a college road trip (driving through several states). Two of us ate them ALL before having passed the second state! I've read plenty of reviews of popular doughnut brands as well as the various must-try locations around America. In fact, I've tried many of them. Yet, in all my travels, I still keep coming back to Krispy Kreme. I really don't know what it is about Krispy Kreme doughnuts that makes me like them more than most others. Yet, I have never been disappointed by a hot original Krispy Kreme. This Mountain View location (off of Rengstorff near Costco, In-N-Out, etc.) is your standard Krispy Kreme. They're open early and late. They serve a variety of doughnuts and drinks. There are few things more enticing to me than the "HOT NOW" sign. My mouth immediately salivates and my stomach immediately growls if I see the sign oozing with reddish-orange neon glow. In fact, I don't know anyone who has ever had a bad experience with hot Krispy Kreme. They just have a way of making a person happy (despite the realization that they might make your jeans just a little tighter). These doughnuts are good -- very good -- and probably my favorite in the endless sea of doughnut shops. I like them more than Dunkin', Tim Hortons, Happy Doughnuts, etc. The Groupon deals for this location make them even sweeter. If you haven't tasted a Krispy Kreme, then you should stop by any time you see that magnificent neon sign! read more

Utter, utter disappointment from what it was 5 years ago. I don't know what this part of the franchise is doing, but it's messing up...big time. If people in northern CA think this is good Krispy Kreme, they've clearly never had a good KK donut before. The donuts are much, much smaller than the KKs I went to back in AZ. That may not be a bad thing for some people, but if I'm shelling out big $$ for 4 donuts that I eat twice a year, you'd better give me better f-in' quality. I need to upload the donut picture I took - the original glaze was infinitely smaller than what I had seen at other Krispy Kremes I had been to. They had the seasonal apple fritter which, 5-6 years ago made my heart sing with happiness. Not this time. When I got home and opened the box, I was momentarily stunned - I honestly thought someone had pooped in the box and the joke was on me for paying that much for a pile of sh*t. To add insult to injury, the donuts were disgustingly stale and had absolutely no taste to them. I ended up throwing away my apple fritter after 2 bites. The original glaze soon followed after another 2 bites. What a waste of $$. I should've gone to McDonald's next door and gotten a hot fudge sundae. The main reason we went here (after the 94.9 comedy jam last Sat) was because they had closed down the one in Concord, so now there are no longer any local Krispy Kreme's for me or my cousin to get a fix at. Granted it was around midnight when we got there, their drive-thru was was still open. Granted my friends and I might have been slightly intoxicated and on one, we still managed to place our orders. The woman accepting the orders at the drive thru had a slight attitude to her and kept on putting us on hold while we placed our order. To try to cheer her up, my cousin started to speak to her in Spanish, which she spoke, but it didn't ease her up any. So after we finally get our order and pull out of the place, shortly after my cousin opens his milk to discover its spoiled and curdled. Nasty! He was so pissed about the whole ordeal, but since we were already on the freeway on the 237, our driver was not going to turn around over some curdled milk, so instead my cousin called them and bitched them out over it to get peace of mind. Luckily the rest of us had ordered chocolate milk and we couldn't really complain about our order, we debated whether the woman purposely did it to my cousin because he pissed her off. Oh well, I guess we'll never know. This place only gets an extra star because they didn't screw up my part of the order. read more

It is very rare to see a doughnut shop with one of these. I ended up getting a warm pumpkin spice doughnut. It was tasty, but tad a bit too sugary for my taste, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Having visited many locations and tried many of the varieties, I have to say the original is still the best of the bunch. However, the jelly filled doughnuts come close. Okay, okay, now I know what all the fuss is about!! I finally came here when their "Hot and Fresh" sign was lit up. I had been here a handful of times before, and just got the donuts ready made from behind the glass which are fine and dandy. But when I took my first bite of that hot and fresh glazed doughnut, I was transported to a world from a long ago time....being a kid and having donuts and just enjoying the heck out of them!
