Not sure what's happening with my favorite KK store. Stopped at drive thru this morning for my favorite coffee and since the hot now sign was on ordered a couple of those mouth watering glaze donuts. Got to pay window, they gave me the wrong price (no big deal), got my coffee and two "not hot" donuts. When I asked for hot, was told sorry, we don't have hot now (even though the sign was on)! Been eating KK donuts since I was a kid. The custard filled with a chocolate covered top is my favorite. The original when they are hot is hard to beat. They melt in your mouth. I am a Winston-Salem native and sugar glaze runs through my veins. My go-tos are the Cake Batter, Chocolate Iced Kreme filled, and hot Original Glazed. Chocolate Original Glazed used to be available the first Friday of every month, not sure if this is still true but I hope so as they are delicious. Note that while this is the "Flagship" Krispy Kreme location, the "Original" Krispy Kreme location was on Main Street in what is now historic "Old Salem." There is a plaque there commemorating it as such. My mom and my aunt remembered standing in line there to get two doughnuts for 5 cents. I use the Drive Thru 99.9% of the time, energy level of the employees varies but I've never had anyone be downright rude as mentioned in other reviews and usually they are pretty pleasant. Pictured is a spring selection of mini doughnuts. These were a big hit at today's family Easter gathering. Interestingly, when I purchased the doughnuts today I also ordered a small Diet Coke and was told that they only have bottled drinks. I remembered that the same thing happened the last time I was here. I like my Co-Cola on ice with a straw so both times I refused the bottled drink. At the window I asked if the bottled drinks were temporary or if that was a permanent change and was told that it had always been that way. I know for a fact this is not true because many times I have purchased a Diet Coke, on ice with a straw, in a Krispy Kreme logo cup. I stopped at the Krispy Kreme on Stratford Road for lemon filled or chocolate cake doughnuts. I was told they aren't making those any longer! The new menu has the original glazed but the rest of the doughnuts are twice the calories with more sugar and food coloring. The biscotti doughnut has 400 calories while the glazed has 190 calories. My family calls KK doughnuts diabetes in a box. with the MAHA movement KK has canceled the less sugary doughnuts sugary doughnuts while adding triple the sugar and food coloring not to mention the added cost! I won't be stopping again since they canceled my two favorite doughnuts and the new menu isn't worth getting diabetes over doughnuts! WAKE UP KK, it's a MAHA America now! read more

Attractive location, and the service was good, BUT, I ordered 4 doughnuts, one of them a cream filled and there was zero cream (kreme?) inside. What a disappointment as these are my fave type of doughnuts! I was way too far away to go back once I discovered this. This location is unique due to their wide-open donut factory, which allows customers to view the complete donut-making process, and their extensive drive-thru and parking lot, which is made to accommodate many cars. Apparently the original/first Krispy Kreme location! Has a drive through, plenty of parking, and a good amount of indoor seating. The down side is that they are located on a very busy street and it can be difficult turning into and getting out of the parking lot during rush hour. Customer service was really great as always and inside was generally well kept. Visited on doughnut day and although they were busy, the line moved relatively quickly and it was nice seeing the fresh made original glazed donuts being made. We got the chocolate creme filled and cake batter, both were light, fluffy, filled with adequate amount of filling. My all time favorite has to be the original glazed and glazed raspberry filled. Overall, everything you would want/need from a Krispy Kreme. Not much to complain about. read more

Who doesn't love a good doughnut? Krispy Kreme, being founded here in Winston Salem is the iconic doughnut stop for most people. Do we have some mom and pop shops doing more unique fresh doughnuts? Sure we do but KK is still a great spot for a quick sugar fix. The Krispy Kreme I frequent is the main location in Winston on Stratford Rd. across the street front their headquarters. The service is consistent friendly and they always have whatever speciality doughnut they are promoting at the moment. Today I went in to try the new pie themed doughnuts. The Dutch Apple Pie, Chocolate Creme Pie and Cherry Pie were all available in the display to choose from so I got one of each. Don't worry I didn't eat them all myself. My favorite was the Cherry Pie, followed by the Dutch Apple Pie then the Chocolate Cream Pie. I loved the slightly tart cherry filling on top of the Cherry Pie doughnut. It balanced the sweetness of the glazed doughnut underneath. The Dutch Apple Pie one was slightly sweeter thus, not as balanced in flavors as the cherry. Still good though with ample filling and crumble topping. The Chocolate Cream Pie was just too over the top sweet for me. I know, a doughnut is supposed to be sweet, but it was just too much for my palate. I like that Krispy Kreme is always bringing on seasonal and new options to their menu. There are some smaller shops that have the same options every day and you can always count on a favorite being there, but Krispy Kreme keeps it fresh by throwing in a specialty every now and then. I'll be looking forward to the next one they create. Until then, I'll just wait until the "Hot" light is on. read more

These guys are always hard working pumping out dozens of orders at a time. Their selection varies but the gold standard of doughnuts has to be their hot original. I came here because it's not my fault because when I see the red light on at a Krispy Kreme I'm going in. I was heading to get biscuits for a meeting I had with clients and saw Krispy Kreme, the light was on so I ran in and got a dozen glazed and a dozen mixed, was helped immediately upon walking in the door as I am mostly just a plain glazed Krispy Kreme fanatic and I needed help. In picking out the now plethora of choices, I have them pick it out for me for a mixed dozen or two which was perfect. I got the donuts some napkins and it wasn't very expensive and I was off to my meeting where everybody was happy to see donuts from Krispy Kreme. These are the best in my opinion I don't care about surveys and polls, i'm from Georgia and I like Krispy Kreme! These were melting your mouth fresh but I only ate one! Home of the good ol' Krispy Kreme! A group of us stopped by on a Friday afternoon, and there were a number of customers in-store. The store was quite small and there weren't many donut varieties to choose from. They were mainly featuring their Valentine donuts and had other jelly/cream-filled donuts, a sour creme cake donut, and varieties of their glazed. I was hoping for more cake donut varieties and also some of their fritters. Maybe they're seasonal?? Not sure... We got 2 dozen to share, and I opted for their chocolate c(k?)ream filled original glazed. The chocolate cream was rich, but not too sweet, a good addition to their original glazed. While we were there, they started making their hot original glazed (YAS!) and we got another 2 dozen of this, and honestly, nothing can beat a hot Krispy Kreme original glazed donut. It was soft, doughy, perfectly sized, melts in your mouth, sweet yeasted donut. Brought back memories of my 10-year-old self downing half a dozen of them in a go (just me?). Worst complacent service ever! We used the Krispy Kreme rewards program to buy the last dozen we needed before getting the next one free. We ordered a dozen glazed to pay for then ordered a separate order for a dozen raspberry filled free. I asked to be rung up separately and the supervisor charged me for the raspberry after I specifically asked him not to. I bought 12 dozen donuts to get one of any kind free. Scam! read more

It's hard to get into since it's at a very traffic heavy location but once you do, you'll get the awesome Krispy Kreme experience complete with the opportunity to get fresh, hot doughnuts. I came here to claim a birthday voucher and had no idea that I wasn't just getting a free doughnut but got a free glazed dozen. As I was still full from my lunch at Cook Out, complete with chocolate milkshake, and was leaving for NYC the next day this was definitely a treat for my niece and nephews (who can't get enough of those glazed doughnuts). I am so disappointed in Krispy Kreme these days. Krispy Kreme was a staple when I was growing up. My family and I used to go there in the summer after playing Putt Putt on Stratford Road. Those days were the greatest. Krispy Kreme has gotten too big for its britches! The Hot Doughnuts are fantastic, but they are NOT WORTH $13 a Dozen. When I was a kid, they were $4 a dozen. My wife and I used to play in Winston and Greensboro Symphony and would frequent the place often after rehearsals or concerts. There were many times when we would go in and they would just throw doughnuts at us before closing. We went the other night, and got 4 hot doughnuts, a small decaf coffee and a medium decaf coffee. It was almost $12 dollars. That is stupid. The staff are no longer friendly. They just look at you like they are mad at you for being there. They goof around in the back. They do not attend to you until you walk right up to the register. I feel like if a company's headquarters is in a city, they should be a part of the community by offering that community a better price than if you were going to visit them in say, Los Angeles or New York. It's sort of like saying, "Thank you for supporting your local businesses." Not Krispy Kreme. There is NO WAY those doughnuts are worth $1.69 each. And I don't like their other doughnuts either. Only the hot ones. I will go elsewhere for better value and taste. I see the same thing happening with Lowes Foods, Hanes Brands, Biscuitville and other local business as well.
