Service was fast and the cashier and I assume the owner who was there was very friendly and helpful. You have a choice of seating indoors or outdoors. Indoor seating is limited to groups of mostly two, while outdoor seating allows you to seat in a group of up to 8 (two tables of 4).

One for me and one for the wifey and we shared the rest. The chicken is crispy on the outside but was simultaneously moist and tender inside. The heat level is basically how many (or how little) they sprinkled on the spice powder. The side of Kale Slaw provided a nice buffer to cut out the saltiness as it's a nice balance of crispy, fresh veggies with a sweet and tangy flavor. I also loved the side of pickles that came with the # 2. They're just plain pickles, and they were definitely better than the Crispy Fried Pickles (skip in my opinion). These were overly seasoned and salty to my liking. I ended up removing the breading just to get to the pickles inside. A few years ago, I won a social media contest that Ike's promoted on Facebook. The prize was a Joc Pedersen jersey and 25 sandwiches. When I contacted them to claim the prize, they played dumb and claimed it was an Instagram contest, refusing to recognize me as a winner. They simply ignored me when I showed them the evidence that the promotion was on Facebook. I have contacted Ike's countless times over the last few years. They occasionally reply with a simple, "I'm sorry about that; I'll add some points to your account" or something like that, but most of the time, they just ignore me. In October, I staffed a leadership retreat for teenagers, and Ike's catered one of the meals. They delivered tons of sandwiches, chips, cookies, brownies, rice krispies treats, and lollipops. I noticed multiple bags of chips that were months past their expiration date. (See photos.) This is the kind of operation they run. I have read that the Downtown Berkeley Ike's finally decided that customers can use the bathroom. For years, there was still a sign saying it was for employees only. Is this an indication that they want to right the ship? I doubt it, but if Ike's wants to make a genuine effort to do better and honor the prize they advertised, I will give them another chance.

The restaurant has a simple, clean, and inviting atmosphere with a spacious indoor dining area, plus outdoor seating if you prefer to dine outside. What stood out just as much as the food was the staff. Everyone we encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Great customer service makes a big difference, and I hope they continue providing that same level of hospitality after the grand opening. Overall, we had a wonderful first experience.
