Kuba has the potential to be a 4-star restaurant for me. We had reservations for 7:45, and when we arrived, they sat us downstairs, which looked mediocre compared to upstairs, we asked if we could we sit upstairs. The host was polite enough to do so. Keep in mind Kuba is a small restaurant so upstairs was compact, she wanted to sit us in front of the steps, the tables just wasn't set up properly and all the tables by the steps were to close to the steps and were two seater and the tables are super small. I had in mind to order a lot so how would that work out? , so I wanted a booth. Again we asked to switch which was becoming a bit annoying, kindly she gave us a booth. We sat and started with drinks. Drinks was a 7/10 I ordered a Cosmo and a Kuba passion and the food was a 9/10 the appetizers and entree tasted very authentic, my favorite was the black beans and rice, the ropa Vieja had a great taste and the seasonings were on point. Overall service was good and put waiter edwin was polite, which he could've recommended more. I will return but I will order to go. I would love to try their cuban sandwich next! read more

I went to Kuba a while back and it was pretty loud. Speakers were near my table but I managed. Food was good and tasty but the drinks were not so good. I decided to order food for delivery to avoid the loud music. The ceviche was bland, very little lemon juice and more salad than fish, the tostones were super stale and the ropa vieja with arroz moro was meh. I did see a weird meat inside the rice and I just threw it out. Moro just just be rice and beans. I was not as impressed with the food at all. read more

Came here on a Saturday early evening. Not busy at all so we were able to have a choice of where to sit. For drinks I ordered the passionfruit mojito (delicious) and my husband got some kind of bubbly margarita. He said it was good but im not a bubbly type of person. For apps we got the beef empanadas and the chicharron. The chicharron was just full of fat chunks. All the meat chunks were on top, but once I was done w that plate. It looked as if it werent touched. Do yourself a favor and dont order it, more than half will just go to waste. For entrees i got the mango thai salad with shrimp. Beautifully plated but lacked any taste at all. I only ate the shrimp for the char taste but the waiter didnt even come to check in on us when the entrees came out so I couldnt ask for any extra dressing or anything to give the salad any flavor. My salad looked untouched by the time i was over it. My husband got the ropa vieja. He didnt say much of it but he left most of it as well. My son didnt touch his chicken tender meal and our bill came up to almost $200 for mediocre service and dishes. Its all about how the dish looks, but theres alot lacking in taste. Leaving Kuba three stars makes me feel sad!! From the individual who greeted us when we walked in... she had no personality. When we left, she did not even look our way to thank us for visiting. Anyways... when we went to sit down, we noticed the table was dirty. A young man came to "clean" it with a DIRTY and stinky rag! Okay-- now on to the food... we wanted to start with water, a sangria and a passion fruit margarita. The water in Fort Lee, NJ is contaminated, so we were told that we had to purchase bottled water. No problem, we purchase bottled water when we go out, but by choice... BUT if they see people buying so much, they should have at least had one bottle on the house... The sangria was not what you want when you ask for a sangria- it tasted like straight vodka. The margarita was nice... We ordered empanadas for the table... and they were not it!! They definitely tasted like they were fried in old oil and the chicken in it was over seasoned. The steak was good... the vaca frita was okay... took both leftovers (steak and vaca frita) home and recreated something DELICIOUS! The tres leche was very tasty-- which made me feel less guilty about eating something I am not suppose to be eating. Oh, and another big issue that caused Kuba to go down stars was that one of the server was walking around with a dirty floss stick in his mouth. Sir, that is DISGUSTING and shows poor hygiene. ** I have so many beautiful memories in this place, so to see the service and the quality of the menu go down the hill is heartbreaking. The bar is on the first level when you walk in along with a more cocktail vibe and up the stairs there is a full dining room. Very chill place and everything was clean. The food was delicious. The coconut shrimp was mouthwatering when paired with their flavorful sauces. I ordered the skirt steak sandwich and opted to have sweet plantains inside the sandwich....talk about a craving satisfied. You can't drop a slice of raw tuna on top of a tostone and fill a bao bun with ropa vieja and call it a fusion. Chefs who curate authentic fusion find creative ways to meld two different culture's seasonings and techniques to birth a delicious interesting marriage of the two. This menu falls way short of that. 85% of the menu, decor, and music are Cuban. I think the only Asian-inspired aesthetic is the koi fish mural on the ceiling and the pattern on the plates. We tried the ham croquettes - mostly filler. If you look veryyy closely, you can spot tiny remnants of actual ham. The ropa vieja bao was just ok. For dessert, Thai donuts. Nothing Thai about it. Dough clusters deep-fried lacking in flavor, if it wasn't for the crushed Oreos and condensed milk for dipping. The one memorable part of this experience: asopado with lobster! Omg. The restaurant could work on a few things... but first, the pros: -Friendly, fast service including the hostess -Live music on the weekends, and a great vibe -Parking on site behind the restaurant Some things that could be improved: -Consistency - my husband ordered five Minty Margaritas and all five tasted differently, as if different tequilas were used each time! -Menu option availability: I asked for the Asian Rice Bowl with Ropa Vieja (it's listed on the menu), was told they can't do that so I settled with skirt steak. Horrible service for a Wednesday night when the place was empty. 2 tables only had people upstairs, yet i had to wait like 10 minutes to see someone. We were surprised that this place was not crowded for New Year's Eve. We had a 7:30pm reservation and were seated immediately. There were about 5 other parties. The food, drinks and the service was great. Everything was delicious. I had a Kuba martini which was delicious. My fiancé had the rum drink which he raved about as well. The calamari and empanadas were so flavorful. For entrees we had the ropa Vieja, rabo encendido, and the seafood paella and we all enjoyed our meals. The service was great. We also had the calamari, which is a pretty large portion for 2 let me tell you. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was good. Their crab cakes were really good too but I haven't had so many crab cakes before, so I can't really compare them to others... For entrees, we had the Rabo encendido and the ropa vieja. Like I mentioned, the ropa vieja was good. What I did enjoy is that it had this comfy/ homey flavor to it that just made it so good/ tasty and warm. The Rabo encendido was really good too. Tender, and it has this little spice aftertaste that tastes amazing. I got it with its side of rice and beans. Rice was fine and beans were okay. I have eaten at this restaurant a few times now with friends and co-workers and the food and drinks are consistently delicious here. On one occasion I sat at a table at the bar and had this really wonderful bartender serve me. He was very attentive and helpful. Ever time I have eaten here in the evenings I have had great service. They have live music on certain nights which is a really nice bonus. The environment is very lively and overall everyone is really nice My only observation of what could use improvement is regarding the hosted when you first walk in at anytime of the day it takes a while sometimes to get acknowledged. If I could give this place zero stars, I would!! The food is the worst attempt at either Cuban or Korean. It was neither Cuban or Korean, there was no kimchi to be found and the roasted pork was spoiled. To top it all off, we were rushed out of the place by the waiter half an hour before closing. I do not recommend this place at all! The service is horrific! I went there one evening with my family to have dinner. To start my soda was flat and I asked the waiter Edwin to switch out my drink because it was flat. I decided on a pina colada which was awful... it was like I was drinking juice. It wasn't even slushy. Then our appetizer came out after the food. The condiments that I asked for came after we finished eating and the tostines came after we packaged our food to go. The waiter had no assistance.He had 6 tables and was overwhelmed and needed better training. Manager never came to check on us. So we paid and then my husband just wasn't happy. So he called the next day just to get the run around from the manager Anna, who spoke to us like we were children. She rescinded on an offer to come back and do a redo. Then called us and said oh no the owner said you can have 25% off instead. Anna was very inconsistent with what she was saying. So I asked to speak to the owner thinking she would have more class and more professionalism . However, it turns out Jillian is worse! She listened to our side of the story and then told us the best best she could absolutely do for us was give us $34 dollars back . I could not believe that she had the nerve to insult us in that manner. The bill was only $134, it as nothing for her to comp us a visit and make it a better experience. She's insulting and needs to learn that customers should always come first. There are many restaurants In this neighborhood that are way better. It's all about the hospitality!!! Not your egos! We used to like this place a lot. After the last 3 consecutive orders having terribly inconsistent food quality, we won't be spending money here any longer. Plus the fact the manager was too busy to take our call (at the time she didn't even know what we were calling about) and then never bothered to call back left us feeling like a Felicia- like "whatever, we got your money and we could care less, so bye Felicia!" And none of our orders were small, so that isn't cool. The 1st problematic order: Rabo (oxtail entrée, $26). We raved about it to my in-laws so they wanted to try it. Then we received our delivery order and all the rabo dishes were so super spicy (hadn't been like that before or since). Needless to say, my in-laws had these looks on their faces like "these people are on crack, how the hell do they think this dish is so great" type of expression; they didn't finish eating. Needless to say, it was a bad 1st impression for them. How can you find flavor when your mouth is on fire? The 2nd problematic order: chocolate cakes ($9 each). These ramekin-sized cakes have normally come dusted with powdered sugar, sat atop a decent schmear of chocolate and garnished with strawberry slices. Nope. All 4 cakes were sopping wet at the bottom like a wet dish sponge, soaked in what wreaked of and tasted like whiskey (glugged out straight from the bottle) and each container had a Pirouline wafer rolling around as a garnish (you know those wafer sticks with a hazelnut-chocolaty wannabe spread inside that come in a tin can that you can get at Walgreens). The menu says the chocolate cake is "infused with Baileys Irish Cream" (which you don't even taste) but this absolutely was not Baileys. I'm not talking a shot's worth of liquor. When we lifted the cakes up, there were drops everywhere the cakes had sat. UberEats refunded those given the photos. Thankfully kids didn't get to them. They all got thrown out. The 3rd problematic order: Arroz con pollo (portion for two, $28) should be renamed risotto con pollo because it's wet like risotto. The rabo: this time it wasn't spicy, it was really salty and my husband thinks they cut the oxtail pieces in half to make them go further. I think they served dished the small pieces (and only the dinky pieces). For the price, they shouldn't even be serving those dinky pieces (solely). The chicken soup: so salty. And while we appreciated it arrived hot, the container was the paper (lined in wax) kind so the lid was caved in. Even a local Chinese takeout joint uses a plastic container for soups. The empanadas con pollo: INEDIBLE--they were off. Old oil. My husband took a bite and spit it right back out and then smelled them. And then made me smell them. To be sure, he tore off an end of another one and smelled it. And then made me smell it. Yup, old oil (gross). We didn't want to be in the bathroom like that so those empanadas got thrown out. We had gotten the empanadas before and the chicken empanadas are good (when they're good) but we did get an order once where the filling was like the last spoons worth in the bowl and they divided it amongst the 3 empanadas when they were making them (like where's the filling- lot of space, they shouldn't have bothered serving them). After this 3rd order, my husband immediately called (on a Saturday night) to let them know the issue so they could do better (after all it was the 3rd time). The guy who answered the phone couldn't hear my husband well (the music was pumping in the background like he was at a club) so my husband had to repeat himself more than once. Anyway after asking the manager to take the call, the guy returned to the phone and told my husband she (the manager) was "busy" and would call him "tomorrow" and the guy asked if my husband would explain the reason for the call. Maybe if we were constant complainers, I could understand the manager not taking the call. But this was our 1st time calling them. She never called my husband back. We are reasonable people and get that restaurants get busy and mishaps happen, but we're talking food quality and not a missed item. Food quality should be consistent whether for dining in, takeout/delivery because we're talking QUALITY, freshness, flavor and people are paying money. Those things matter. Flavor should be consistent- not spicy once and super salty another time and using old oil? C'mon! Unless there's an emergency going on, a manager should take the call and deal with the issue while the issue is still fresh. Maybe your experience (if you want to gamble) will be better esp. if dining in so they can deal with issues right then and there, but don't hold your breath on takeout/delivery. read more

I've heard about this restaurant from an acquaintance that recommended it. So, I decided to give it a try. My ratings are from 1-10. 1 being the lowest, 10 the highest. Service and staff: 9- the servers and staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. I called ahead of time to ask about a wait and they were professional over the phone and answered "no wait! Come on down." Even over the roaring music the hostess heard me clearly without asking me to repeat myself. My waiter however, did take a bit of a time to check on us. But when he did, he was accommodating. Food: 10- I ordered the build my own bowl. Holy crap! It was a lot of food. It was delicious, the planters were sweet and not burned, steak medium as I like it and the pico was amazing. My husband ordered the shrimp and steak and that was also good to taste. The garlic shrimp is delicious as well. I highly recommend that dish for shrimp lovers. The drinks are over priced, like club prices. They charge $15 for a "special" made mijito , yikes! Pandemic precautions: 10- they took our temperature when we first walked in. Tables were sanitized after every guest, tables were feet apart, and good ventilation. All staff and servers wore mask. If you love fresh Cuban food made to order this is the hidden gem. The ceviche is out of this world. The ropa vieja and steak tacos are beyond delicious. We had the arroz con pollo for two with their homemade hot sauce, made fresh from jalapeño, cilantro, lemon and cucumber. It's to die for. I really enjoyed this restaurant. The first thing that immediately caught my eye is their way of packing each item. Their plastic containers kept everything fresh and are sectioned off, in order to accommodate each food item. Unlike other establishments, whose containers either leak, turn into mush, or make refridgerators smell like a food court. Every item was very tasty, at the perfect temperature, and with the appropriate seasoning. The shirt steak was very large and lasted for two meals, easily. The ham croquettes were moist, flavorful, and the dipping sauce added an extra dimension to the experience. The entire staff was very friendly. We were greeted right away, and they packed each item in a very tight, and stapled brown bag. Another nice touch to this restaurant is their logo. I initially only stopped by to buy a bottle of water during a 100+km bike ride, but ended up meeting some new cycling friends there and sat down to eat lunch with them. The water was extra cold, which was needed when I visited on a 90°+ full sun day. I ordered beef empanadas and they were just okay. So why 4 stars? Cyclists stop by to eat totally bonked and dazed and the staff are so patient even when they have to ask 40 times what the guests' orders are because the guests are too concerned about the ride, their bike, being out of breath, Strava stats, and other irrelevant-when-dining-out topics. They also refilled our water fiftyleven times without us needing to ask. The stellar service made for a refreshing experience and based on the yummy smells from orders at nearby tables, I'm sure the other menu offerings are good. read more

Note to the owner/manager PEOPLE COME TO YOUR BAR EITHER HAPPY OR SAD... when your bartender can't even offer a smile... a "welcome"... & is SELECTIVE in doing so.... It doesn't help! Keren is great! She immediately welcomed us and continued to check on us while at the bar but the head bartender (I only believe he is such because of his bartenders apron) needs a class inhospitality & a permanent surgical smile!! If he is behind the bar.... Get your drink to GO! His selective style is not cut for bartending. Everyones money is green & there are 1,001 bars from my home to this establishment. Bar and apps only. Came by with a friend on a Sunday (Mother's Day) and grabbed a seat at the bar. Um...best decision ever! Luis, the bartender was AMAZING!!! He is great at what he does and whips up some delicious drinks. You can't go wrong with whatever he creates. Also, ask him to make a michelada...SO GOOD. I'll be back just to chill at Luis at the bar honestly. As far as apps we ordered: Chicken and beef empanadas Coconut shrimp Tuna tartare All were delicious. I personally enjoyed the empanadas! Hot and crispy. It definitely hit the spot. I would pass on the coconut shrimp. It was good but nothing out of this world. Next time I'll have to go to check out the main menu! read more

I went on a Tuesday night for a birthday so it was pretty quiet. The ham croquettes were so delicious I've never had or heard before! The appetizers in general really surprised me on how good they were. We all got stuffed off the appetizers. For my entree I got the stuffed flounder which was very flavorful. Lastly, I wanna talk about our server Andre. He was the absolute best server I've ever had across all restaurants I've been to. He had the biggest smile on his face and seemed like the happiest person ever to be working. He made our experience 100% better than it already was. On top of that it was my boyfriends birthday and we already had a cake at home waiting for us so instead he brought us a round of shots! Super sweet of him to sing and celebrate my boyfriends birthday even though we weren't getting dessert. Highly recommend this place for good drinks and good vibes! We will be requesting Andre as our server the next time we go!!! read more
