The Marriott offers a deal if you stay in their hotel you get one free buffet and the second 25% off daily. We wanted to take advantage of the over priced resort fee. So we checked out the Kuhio Grill a few times during our stay. We walked in around 10AM a slow start to our morning and we were seated immediately. The buffet options: pastries, toast, cereal, miso, noodles, congee, eggs (omelettes), bacon, Portuguese sausage, potatoes, bread pudding, pancakes, waffles, assortment of fruit. There's quite a bit to choose from and a lot of it. There's a few different juices and coffee choices. The food is good, not spectacular, but reasonable. There's a good variety so it worked out for us. Our waitresses (both times) were awesome. Florence and Madonna made our dining experience memorable. We will return :) read more

The food at Kuhio Beach Grill is delicious! I've been going and trying different prime rib buffets, but none can match Kuhio Beach Grill. Also, the prices are so much better than other buffets I've gone too. I also went to pasta night and the pasta was hot and I couldn't stop eating it! The funny thing about it is that I found this place by accident when me and Mom was doing some sightseeing in Waikiki. We decided to try Kuhio Beach Grill since it was close to our hotel, but now we go here almost all the time just for the prime rib! We came here for the dinner buffet a couple trips ago to Waikiki so since they were having their Sunday-Thursday special of $22.95/person, we gave it another go. It was a-ok, solid American food, cajun seafood stew (mmm!) and I liked the fried chicken. The salad bar was a-ok, the sliced meat looked quite red (eee), and the desserts were a-ok too. I don't even know where to start. 4PM, a sunny Sunday afternoon. My buddy says "Let's get sushi". I say "Yea! Let's go to Sansei! (Which is upstairs from this hole). We start the drive into waki waki around 4:30PM, and immediately hit massive traffic on the Ala Moana side. Turns out it was due to the "Honolulu Street Festival" or some crap like that. I was furious. Time was running out - we had to be in line for Sansei or we wouldn't get a spot. After sitting through another 20 minutes of infuriating Hawaiian traffic, we finally park (about 1/2 mile away) and get to Sansei. DID WE MAKE IT?! Obviously not, because I'm writing a review of a shitty buffet. The half off happy hour sushi bar was sold out - we walked out with heads hanging low. At this point, we were pissed off and starving so stepped into this place. It actually wasn't THAT bad. Actually, if you're an overweight, middle-American douche, you'll love this place (nothing against those folk). Super heavy offerings, lots of cream, butter, grease etc. Mediocre variety. OK service. We scarfed down some junk and left within 20 minutes. I guess this was more a gripe on how we didn't get into Sansei than a rant on how bad a restaurant this was. I thought this place was just ok food wise. My mom really wanted to try this place because she was told this place was really good, and while I'm not a huge fan of buffets, we decided to try this place as our last dinner before we headed back to SF the next day. I didn't think the selection was very expansive as far as buffets are concerned. The special was prime rib (that was good) and the crab legs (that was really good, simply steamed and not salty at all) but everything else was just blah. I picked up a few sides, but didn't wind up finishing it and just focused on the crab legs during the rest of my dinner. The service was good, but when we got our check they forgot to add our 20% off discount and my mom went to the cashier to have them correct it. Now $6 isn't a big deal, but the asshole cashier there said that my mom had attitude and I told him that because of his comment, it would be very easy for me to complain to the manager and wind up not paying for it at all. just do your goddamn job and do it with aloha like everyone else! read more

Solid 4! Nice large room, well laid out buffet line. Hostess was super nice and welcoming! Prime rib was outstanding and ready to order poke was superb. Nice salad items, breads, fancy cheeses, and sides. Desserts....mmmm.... Awesomeness! Creme brûlée, bread pudding, chocolate dipped strawberries, carrot cup cakes, tiramisu and a lot more. Our waitress was outstanding. Kept the table clear and our coffee full, she made us feel very welcomed as appreciated. Mahalo for that! Highly highly recommended! The best king crab legs in the island. Steamed to perfection and served with clarified butter. Sadly I have to stay away from shell fish but if you want all you eat giant king crab legs, then this is the place to go. Their prime rib is also the best in town. Cooked to perfection. Ask the carver for a slice according to how thick you want it. If you like the king cut, they will cut it for you. Their prime rib is tender and cooked on the rare side. If you don't like it too rare they can pan fry it for you. The buffet is rounded out with a soup and bread section, cold salad bar with fruits and cold items such as smoked salmon and shrimp and cheeses, and other hot entree items for non meat or seafood eaters, and a very nice selection of desserts. It's a well rounded buffet that has something for everyone. We had the breakfast buffet twice here and the selection is very basic and average. The omelette bar is the best way to go and they have a lot of items to choose from, including Portuguese sausage. If you enjoy waffles, then you will love these. They are right by the omelette station and they go as quick as they are made. Do yourself a favor and try the coconut syrup on the waffles. What a great combination and the syrup is not overly sweet. Fantastic!!!!! They have fresh muffins and they change them up from day to day. Fresh fruit bar including canned juices. They do have pancakes as well, but they are not really that fresh and they just sit there in the bin. The line here gets really long in the morning, so the earlier you arrive, the better. I've read some negative reviews, but they are older having noted the dates. This place must have made some changes at the grill because my group got there as they were just opening the buffet for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Great service, the food looked and tasted really good. There wasn't much by way of seafood, but the prime rib and deserts were outstanding. It cost us $22 plus tax. I think for the price, you get some pretty decent options. There were many other places nearby to choose from but they would cost double. I would have like to have seafood, but there was someone in the group who didn't want that, so I was willing to sacrifice crab legs. Still wasn't disappointed. There wasn't any view since were below street level but the stomach didn't care. We walked up and out on to the street afterwards and took some pictures of waikiki beach. Kuhio Beach Grill has a different buffet every night. I wish we had realized the weekend buffet menu (crab legs and prime rib), but the weekday menu was less than exciting. Very standard offerings, and nothing was out-of-this-world amazingly tasty. If you have kids, or people in your group who like simple, American food - then this is probably a good bet for your money. We went here because there were huge storms and rain, and this restaurant was in the Marriott we were staying in. We had been to Sansei the night before, and wanted to try something new. The noises the teachers make in the Peanuts cartoons about sums it up for me, but then I like a little more adventure with my food. read more

The buffet was not that big, it had the basic stuff - salad bar, fruit bar, desert bar, entree bar and prime rib carving station. I always eat here, I love me pasta mondays. Some of staff remember me from before, even though i come to Hawaii once or twice a year. Friendly staff, good food selection. Staff are quick to refill your drinks and take away your dirty plates. If you do not want the buffet, they do have menu options. I do not pay full price when I eat here, I usually do the sunset special for dinner and usually find coupons for the breakfast buffet. There was plenty there: Breads, pastries, waffles, fruit, cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, etc. And the type of sausage and potatoes rotated from day to day, so it wasn't the same every time which was nice for variety. The buffet also caters to Japanese guests with the salad and miso soup. I wanted to try it, but I like a typical American breakfast with eggs too much! The omelet station was the best - Yum! The first day we went in, the guy working the station saw my husband had a t-shirt on from NC. His father was stationed in NC with the military for a while so he lived here when he was younger. He seemed to take a shine to us, and gave us some recommendations to try, like the pineapple and papaya juice and the waffles with coconut and pineapple syrup, and also some suggestions on what to do in the area. Toward the end of our meal, he actually left his station to bring us the waffle concoction. It was wonderful! The waitresses actually remembered our names and even sometimes our room numbers - they were very sweet! Went for Seafood buffet with my dad. The food and service were subpar and considering that it is below ground level, the atmosphere left something to be desired as well. The odd thing about the food is that it is prepared in a way to cause the customer lots of work while making it easy on the cooks. For example the have cold shrimp with the shell, legs and vain still attached. If I wanted to clean the shrimp I would buy them at the market and eat at home. Same situation with the crab legs. Small legs, not scored, not shucked and the don't even give you an oyster fork. They also had both hard and soft cheese, but no crackers, so I ended up eating the soft cheese with a fork. I expect better attention to guest experience in a four-star buffet than I got. Service also missed the mark, the waiter never even asked my did if he wanted a drink, he had gone to the restroom, the nearest one is outside of the restaurant and down a hall. When I waiter took my drink order. The hostess also did not show him where I had been seated making him search. The decor is one big room that gets noisy and drafty if they prop the outside door open. They do offer outside seating, but it is also below ground so there is not desireable view no matter where you sit. Probably will not go back. The maître d' did give us a discount when I complained and also suggested that if I didn't want to clean the seafood, I should come on a night when they don't offer it. read more

My review is for breakfast only. I'm sorry to say that this was the worst breakfast of our entire vacation. The restaurant is old and outdated. We had the breakfast buffet and the only good items were the fresh cut fruit and the omelet station (because the eggs were actually hot and cooked fresh). Everything else on the buffet were not at appropriate temperatures (hot food cold , cold food not so cold). The Miso soup was grainy and merely luke warm and the eggs on the buffet were runny and undercooked. The only meat selections were bacon and canadian bacon. From reading other reviews, it appears that the dinner buffets could be better than breakfast, but I couldn't bring myself to go back in. Especially when there are so many other great dinner options within walking distance. If you went to a small convention in a cheap hotel, this is the food you'd expect to find, flavorless banquet trays of scrambled eggs, bland potatoes au gratin, dried out little blocks of poached salmon, straight from the box muffins. Seniors cafeteria food is better than this imposter for a breakfast buffet. Dirty utensils to boot. Funniest was the annoyed double-take from a confused server when I asked for champagne, they only have juice and coffee, made me feel downright embarrassed ordering a mimosa at brunch. If you want an institutional cafeteria breakfast, then this is your bet. My wife and I ate dinner here last night. It was All-America BBQ buffet. The whole experience was terrible, the very small side dishes were fried fish, another fried fish, with baked beans and fried chicken. All these side dishes just looked terrible. The meat they served was Prime Rib, when they delivered the prime rib to are table, it looks kinda good, the first bit, all I tasted was Sea Salt.
