My son wanted to eat at a buffet for his birthday and looked around, but most restaurants that offer buffets are at least $50, and it was hard to find one with a dumb phone. Being in the dark ages, I finally saw the light after I finally got a smart phone and could just hop onto yelp to find kuhio beach grill listed. Just one tap on the phone to call instead of finding a phone book (have you younger generation ever looked in one?) I was trying to stay away from being on the screen all the time, but I guess it is inevitable. Having a smart phone enables me to write more reviews instead of waiting to go home, then find myself too tired to write. Now I understand why people couldn't communicate with me or not being able to find places. but now I am back writing and posting reviews as a non-elite to let you all read another opinion of places, as I rely on yelp to find places as well. At first I wondered if the cost would reflect the quality of food since if was almost half the price of other restaurants, and some of the reviews stated that the crab legs were small, but we decided to try it out anyway because of other good reviews: corn chowder- 5 stars - very creamy with a nice heavy flavor. I didn't want to eat too much of it since there were so much other food. prime rib - 4 stars - a little chewy but pretty good. the sauce was a little salty but it made the meat a lot tastier to want seconds. crab legs - 5 stars - cannot go wrong getting all u can eat crab legs for only $30. My younger son ate 3 plateful. It was already flavored without the butter which made it less fattening. salad bar - 3 stars - was just a basic variety of veggies that I didn't bother to eat. other hot foods - wasn't that much of a variety that captured me, so didn't taste any. dessert - 3 stars - average, and the chocolate wasn't as strong tasting so it didn't impress me birthday icecream brownie cake - 5 stars - I asked if they did anything for birthdays and the waitress didn't really say anything, but at the end of our meal, she brought us a really nice and awesome tasting brownie ice cream chocolate cake that we had to make room in our tummies for because it was so delicious! It also had a happy birthday chocolate candy to go with it. Unfortunately, my phone ran out of juice so I couldn't take a pix of it. Overall, I give it a 4 or more stars because of the early bird cost of $30 for adults and only $17 for kids under 12 if you arrive by 6pm, prime rib, crablegs, local friendliness of the waitress, very kid friendly, special cake and 4 hour validation to give us extra time to enjoy walking around waikiki, especially since the pan pacific hoolaulea event was happening to make a very special family event. read more

Believe it or not, this wasn't my first pick. I initially wanted to go to The Buffet at the Hyatt but their reservation availabilities were conflicting with our schedules. We came here on a Tuesday night and it was "Italy" themed. *Ambiance: Cafeteria feel! It's a large room with a bar in the middle and tables all around. It was nicely lit and completely empty! *Food: VERY MEDIOCRE. They had rice and soup in the back corner. On the hotline they had an oxtail dish, mahi, chicken, another rice dish and mashed potatoes. I may be missing a few. They also had a salad bar which was nothing special and fruits (watermelons, honeydew melons, pineapple, etc.) To the side they had 2 pasta dishes, a seafood alfredo and red sauce pasta. The alfredo was delicious and probably 1 of 2 good dishes they had. They had a prime rib station, which I thought was okay but my husband said his prime rib wasn't HOT and he's right, it was just warm but nicely seasoned! The dessert line had great choices from creme brulee, flan, chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecakes and other things. FRI,SAT AND SUN- The price is a bit more expensive because they had crab legs and on Sundays they have a poke bar! Service: AMAZING! Our server was DEAN and he was very polite. He kept coming to our table almost every 3 minutes i figure because it was so slow he had almost nothing else to do but we didn't mind. He brought out a complimentary dessert for us celebrating our anniversary. He also gave us the BOGO 1/2 off dinner even though we didn't dine during the hours for it to be applicable (5-6pm and 8-10pm M-THURS.) and we were so grateful for that. The buffet had many choices, so I ended up getting some vegetables from the salad bar area, 2 off the bone kalbi, fried rice (which was amazing), and some poke. I also ordered a medium rare piece of prime rib, which was also delicious. Unfortunately, since I wasn't starving when I came here, I got full really quickly, so for anyone who wants to eat here, come hangry. And you'll want to save room for dessert, because they have so many selections. So although we were so full, we made room in our stomachs for the dessert. We tried the chocolate covered strawberries, got 2 of the creme brûlées (this was my favorite), a chocolate cake, German chocolate cake, and some kind of coconut and lilikoi(?) cake (also amazing). For beverages, I ordered their guava alcoholic beverage, which was quite tasty. I'm not a person who drinks a lot, but when I do, the alcoholic beverages that aren't beer or wine always seem watered down to me (little alcohol), but this one seemed to have plenty--after a few minutes of sipping on my beverage, I started to feel its effects....and then I fell asleep at 8pm haha. For $8, this beverage was worth it compared to all of the other alcoholic mixed drinks I've had. As for the service and atmosphere, they were both great. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer. She always stopped by our table to see if we needed anything and helped us choose a beer for my dad. In addition to having a great waitress, we also had a great table, with a great view of the ocean. Since we were there during the time that the sun sets, we would have been concerned about being blinded by the setting sun, but we didn't get affected by it at all, which was great. There isn't really a restaurant. It is poolside food. Off to a side there were three tables. We had credit and this was the only place we could use it. The server was great. My husband was so thirsty and she brought him extra water cups to help so he didn't have to wait for a refill. The food was presented well but extremely overpriced. I had a pasta that was $32 and would have rather eaten a can of ravioli. It was dry , no flavor and noodles sticky. My husband had a prime rib ge said was very good but not worth $50. Family had salads and huhi huhi chicken that they said was good but $20 for a small salad is too much. There were only a few things on the menu to choose from. I would never eat here again. I think part is because it is Hawaii and everything seems overpriced. We have not really had a great meal here yet in our first four days! read more

This review is long overdue and I am not talking about a few months, I am talking about over a year! But seeing some negative reviews that this place received only 1 or 2 stars, well I feel like I should give my opinion. My husband and I used to come here all the time before COVID. Not only for their unlimited crab legs (Which is the reason we go so often. I am crab obsessed!) but how amazing for them to always have great customer service on top of it! PRICE: Reasonable. There are way more expensive buffet restaurants around and even without a kamaaina discount, it is pretty decent. But they do offer kamaaina, so locals get your I.D ready FOOD: Unlimited crab legs. Easy 3 stars for me automatically. But some places have poor crab legs where they look old or no taste. This place always makes sure to have their food filled. The other options are pretty great as well. But my go to is the crab legs and desserts SERVICE: All staff is super friendly. One even showed us how to peel the crab claw which is a different technique from our usual. I loved that! But based on the reviews, it is no secret that Dean is always on top of his game. He genuinely cares about the customers and it shows. My husband and I also used this restaurant for our wedding reception. I worked with Brittany with coordinating everything and her and her staff was just phenomenal. I really didn't have to worry about a thing. I didn't do seating arrangements because I wasn't that type of bride but they accommodated the few things I asked regarding seating. Along with making sure there was room for my special dance to my husband. The staff that night accommodated all my guests on top of the existing guests that were on the other side. Sorry to everyone else, but we made sure to have Dean that night lol. We used to go so often, he would recognize us right away. I came here for a quick dinner and cocktail after a day of exploring the city. It's a low key spot and if that's what you're after, don't hesitate to go here. They only have the buffet menu on weekend nights, but you can order from the simple menu if you sit at the bar. I ordered a clam entree which came with rosemary bread and a generous amount of clams. The sauce was a bit too salty for my taste, but the bread helped balance that out a bit. The guava cocktail I ordered was a bit light on the alcohol, but refreshing nonetheless. We ate dinner here for Mother's Day and I was really expecting the food to be great. I was honestly disappointed with their buffet menu for Mother's Day. We didn't have a reservation, but the staff was very accommodating and even though they told us it was going to be a 1-2 hour wait, they were able to seat us within 15 minutes. Our server was constantly checking up on us, which was really great, but when it came down to the food, it was just pure disappointment. The "steamed" crab legs was cold on the inside, the prime rib they were serving felt like I was chewing gum rather than actually eating prime rib, and the rice they had was so hard as if it still needed to be cooked. Also, for their dessert table, I really expected more out of it, but it looked like a dessert table for a kid birthday party. There were more cupcakes on the table than any other dessert. For a buffet, it is one of the smaller ones in my experience. Kuhio is known for its prime rib dinners so come hungry and ready to eat some meat! Other dishes they have include local favorites, snow crab, salad bar, and an awesome dessert selection. The prime rib was made well. It was rubbed with seasons and herbs. They have horseradish and au jus on the side to add on the prime rib. I added the au jus and it seemed thicker than other's I've seen, but it was all delicious. The crab was in a steamer instead of a bed of ice. This overcooked the crab so it wasn't the most amazing crab. The desserts were awesome! So many great selections. My favorite was the creme brulee. Service here was very attentive and nice. It was an overall nice experience. I enjoyed the prime rib, which is the main selling point for this buffet. That being said, this place is a GREAT deal, if you're just looking to stuff your face with yummy snow crab & prime rib...especially if you qualify for the kama'aina rate (just show Hawaii ID)! Add consistently good customer service, free validated parking, and a nice assortment of desserts that (usually) includes chocolate-covered strawberries...and that's basically all I need for a solid 4-star experience. Over the past couple years, this place has become something of a family favorite, so I've been here at least 4 or 5 times....and always on a Friday or Saturday! We eat early--usually 5pm, when they open--so we've never had a problem getting reservations. Also nice that there's no wait for the buffet line then, yay! As previously mentioned, the snow crab & prime rib are the stars here... both have always been perfectly cooked, moist and succulent, nicely seasoned, never dried out or overcooked. (But again, we always eat at 5pm here.) The prime rib is a perfect medium-rare, super tender, and I really like whatever combination of seasoning they use. There's the usual au jus & horseradish accompaniments, plus drawn butter for the crab...and oh, THE CRAB!! I've been to much "fancier" buffets that don't do snow crab legs half as well as Kuhio Beach Grill. Plump & tasty, never (that I've experienced) dry, watery or over-salted. The pan is refilled regularly, and I've never seen it empty for more than a few minutes (& I've stood by, believe you me)! Mmm, I'm craving crablegs now, just thinking about it. On the downside, if you like vegetable dishes, there's not much that this buffet has to offer...typically just tossed salad, and roasted veggies (squash, zucchini, carrots) with balsamic. The various beef, chicken & fish dishes that we've seen--and tasted a smidge, on occasion, just in case--have never been very exciting either. They do offer some decent soups--I LOVE SOUP!--which seem to change all the time. So far, we've tried Lobster Bisque (yummy, but a tad salty), Minestrone (fine), Portuguese Bean Soup (very good!), and miso soup (fine). Everything else is ok, take it or leave it...though I usually taste the made-to-order special, which also varies (spicy garlic shrimp with pasta, grilled fish tacos, etc...nothing that really wowed me). Aside from not offering that many "OMG dishes," I think their biggest weakness is the parking. Not only is the structure hard to find (go past the valet driveway, then take your second driveway on the left), but it's also very cramped, with small parking stalls and blind curves (the mirrors posted don't help much) that loop around & around & around. Keep in mind, it is free (fully validated), so that's really my main concern...you give me free covered parking, I don't ask for much else, lol! To wrap things up, I'd recommend Kuhio Beach Grill's seafood fest buffet to anyone who loves good snow crab legs and/or prime rib--in mass quantity--and is not expecting any fabulous ambiance or other frills. Valet is probably the easiest way to park if you plan on driving. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and has a whole wall of windows overlooking Kalakaua Avenue. Reservations are strongly recommended as they do book quickly - but walkins are welcome, also. Luckily, you can utilize the Open Table app to make your reservation. Gotta love technology! Every night of they week they offer a prime rib buffet. Monday - Thursday, you can take advantage of the 50% off per person by using the Yelp app. On the weekend is when they bring out the gold - warm snow crab legs. There are countless options on their buffet and the staff keeps it well-stocked. Everything from a salad bar, to prime rib and crab legs to local favorite dishes. BUT, other than Las Vegas, I have never seen such an extensive dessert display! Everything is so delicious so you absolutely cannot go wrong! They have a full bar with a few TVs. This is a review of the breakfast. The breakfast burrito was runny and something you would see sold at a convenience store. NOT HOTEL QUALITY. The Belgium waffles are rubbery at best. It's inside the Marriott & WOW! my whole family loved their food! I got the wagyu beef burger & I devoured it! that onion jam made it even better! Our server was also one of the best people ever! She was so funny & kind. I wish I got her name so I can shout her out on here. Thank you for a great experience! We're staying at the Marriott and breakfast was included for us. The restaurant is on the second floor of the hotel in the ocean front wing. The restaurant was surprisingly not huge given the size of the hotel. We got there at 9:15am, prime breakfast time and there was 3 groups in front of us. The restaurant is one large open space, with a U shape bar in the middle (with bar seating) and a sofa waiting area. We were seated quickly and went directly to the buffet. The buffet has a good selection of standard AMERICAN breakfast items as well as Chinese porridge and Japanese noodles and miso soup options. There's an omelette bar and juice bar. Waiter brings a carafe of coffee to your table and you can order cocktails from the bar. Everything was good. Since we didn't have to pay, we can't speak to the cost. Since the space is not huge, if you have a large group, you may have to wait a little. read more

Hm. I saw Kuhio Beach Grill everytime I searched up prime rib and never bothered to look until I saw a Frolic article of "5 best buffets in Oahu". I saw their menu and knew I had to come. I was also torturing myself by watching buffet videos on youtube constantly and had to satisfy my cravings. My friends and I decided to come here on a Friday to take advantage of the steamed crab legs! The crab legs were okay. I thought it would've been sweeter but some parts tasted a bit leathery? Was it a bad batch? I went for 3 rounds of the crab legs. The prime rib was yummy! The second time I got it, they gave me an end piece so it was extremely salty. I couldn't eat it. The brown parts of the prime rib is salty af even on the "pink" slices so be careful! Most of the prime rib was super yummy besides the salty party (it was only one bite) The shrimp cocktail was very disappointing...I could see the veins and the black liquid gushing out from the shrimp. eep! You can cover the nasty-ness up with cocktail sauce? But just the image alone is a bit disturbing. The pad thai was super dry. The salmon was pretty good. The veal ragu was a bit too salty for me and consisted mostly of mushrooms. Maybe we made a mistake to go on a friday, I would reccomend going on another day to make your money's worth unless you purely want to fill up on crab legs and prime rib. I will say, their dessert selection is phenomenal considering this isnt your "high end" buffet. The flan and creme brulee were very yummy! The crem brulee doesn't have the hard sugar shell unfortunately. They also had rainbow jello, random, but I loved it. Their chocolate strawberries were a miss for me. For the cost of the meal, I regret not sending back the spam that I received, the spam was over cooked and rock hard that a piece literally flew off the plate when I tried to cut it with my butter knife. We just dined here to celebrate a family birthday. The food was fantastic. The prime rib I dare say is better than Haleiwa Joe's. The meat is top quality, tender and seasoned perfectly. Another plus is that you have the option of pan searing your prime rib to the exact doneness. Yum. I ate 4 slices all by myself. They also offer crab legs. The legs are on the bigger side and perfectly seasoned. What more can you ask for besides good prime rib and crab? Other pluses: Sunday is poke bar day... yup, AYCE poke: spicy ahi, salmon, tofu, Shoyu ahi, tako and shrimp. You can also add limu/ogo, green onions and additional sauce. Dessert bar: probably one of the largest dessert bars on the island with quality and not commercialized desserts. It has everything from bread pudding to ganache, cheesecakes, puddings, chocolate dipped strawberries and the lightest chiffon cupcakes. Salad bar and grilled veggies. Delicious fresh grilled portabello mushrooms, red peppers, zucchini and eggplant lightly drizzled with olive oil... just the way I like them. Quality all the way. They even have a good cheese platter and the usual fancy greens. The restaurant is large and spacious. It looks recently remodeled and is classy. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? Besides the things I described above, the rest of the hot entrees were just "meh". They did have Boneless shortribs, but they were dry and the sauce was just ok, the Mahi fish was nothing to write home about and the others were meaningless things like fingerling potatoes, and some other filler things. KEAHI is great! Came here for dinner while staying in Waikīkī. They were pretty busy with it being the night before Mother's Day along with many people graduating. We had reservations so there wasn't a wait. We mainly went for the crab and I was surprised at how well they kept up on refilling. Other buffets we went to wouldn't fill up as fast. The food is good but there's not a big variety of choices as other buffets. Still kept us full though. Our server, KEAHI was wonderful! Arrived for Happy Hour Buffet before 6pm at 20% discount - yea... The weekend special includes prime rib and hot crab legs. My favorite was the jumbo shrimp with special sauce and wheat somen. The chowder was delicious and so was the creamy seafood special. The desert and salad choices were great. read more

This buffet was amazing!! This was our first visit here to this buffet. We wanted to go somewhere nice for our Sunday family date night. We finally found a listing for a snow crab and seafood buffet and decided to check it out. We made our reservations online about 45 mins before we wanted to go (I dont reccomend ever doing this at any buffet so I only mention it because we truly lucked out as other places we tried had already been booked for the evening) We scored some free street parking right around the corner from the Kalakaua Ave sidewalk entrance of the Marriott. Getting to the restaurant was fairly easy and once we started heading toward the entrance we were pleasantly greeted by the hostess. She found our reservation name right away and promptly sat us. We settled in for a minute and was then greeted warmly by our server. Our server, Luther, was very attentive. Down to the small details like replacing the crab shell plate with a clean plate, always making sure our beverages were full and kept us happy which made our evening and experience here all the more enjoyable! The atmosphere is very modern and clean with tables that may accommodate single to large parties and also have multiple types of seats including sturdy chairs, comfortable booth style benches as well as low bar stool tables. They have a bar located to the right side of their large dining room, the whole area is very roomy and comfortable. As you walk further in towards the back wall that's where all the food is. Everything tasted exceptional and had us going back for more. Some of our favorites included the juicy and perfectly prepared crab legs with clarified butter, pan seared medium rare prime rib with creamy horseradish and ajus, freshly made limu ahi poke, hot steamed veggies and the fresh cut fruits. The chocolate covered strawberries were delicious but the cream brulee was TO. DIE. FOR. A few things that caught our attention: PROS * The superb customer service provided by Luther. He was on it man! Really chill guy and super attentive and polite! He never treated us poorly, which is how most local families are treated when dining out. He was always there when we needed something but at the same time still let us enjoy our date night by not being to overbearing. Also the vibe from all other staff there - the servers and hostess were pleasant and never seemed to look like they didnt like being there (we've been to other places and have felt the server/staff just didnt want to be there and we were bothering them) NOT the case here! * They kept the food and desserts coming! The place was moderately to lightly busy so the fact that they kept replenishing the buffet items were impressive. (Other buffets we've been to don't seem to do this. They either don't make/have enough or are saving the rest for staff.) ALSO NOT the case here! We never had to wait for more crab legs or side entrees to be filled, on your trip back for more there WAS more! * Kama'aina Discount. We had no idea we would be getting this deal! Our server knew we were locals and already had it on the bill when he dropped it off... another brownie point for Luther! * The restrooms are just a small short walk outside of the restaurant. Its wheelchair accessible and has a baby changing table. * Validated parking (we lucked out in the street but good info to know for next time as it's safer for us and our toddler) * All sides, sauces and entrees were labeled. You never had to guess which dish was which. CONS (We had to dig really deep for a con because there really wasnt anything wrong with our unexpectedly perfect date!) * No dessert signs at dessert table.. you just sorta had to guess, which wasnt too much of a problem but I would've liked to know if that dark yellow sauce over the white cake was mango or lilikoi (I didnt takeone as I didnt want to be wasteful) * There were no ramekins provided for the horseradish sauce and ajus at the carving station (they did however have some out for the clarified crab butter that was across the way which I feel would also be nice to have at the carving station as well) * Having a soft-serve ice cream machine with a toppings bar would be the bees knees! As you can tell it was down to the nitty gritty for the cons list. All in all: Great food! Polite server! Friendly staff! The only restaurant open at the Marriott and it was awful. They advertise prime rib and more, but when we got there it was essentially tacos, burgers and pizza, and it's now a "test kitchen". Well, they definitely failed the test. I got the wagyu burger, and it tasted like it had been defrosted in the microwave. There's no breakfast, no nothing. I get the whole Covid thing but come on...to not even be able to get a decent meal at a resort is unacceptable. read more

This was a pleasant surprise. I was failing at finding a restaurant for my family of 7 that had a less than 90 min wait. One of the hostesses at a busy restaurant was kind enough to direct us to the 2nd floor where the wait times should be more reasonable. With me, my hangry boyfriend, my parents, and 3 kids 15, 9, and 4 I was ready to eat pretty much anything if it meant a hassle free experience. When we got there there was no wait, the service was excellent, and the food was great. I was reading other reviews about when this place was a buffet and I'm sorry I missed it. Before we talk about Kuhio Beach Grill, first of all you should know this: Marriott Hotels is the largest brand in the world with 500 hotels and resorts in more than 50 countries, also now including Starwood, Sheraton, Westin, W and St. Regis, as well as Courtyard and Ritz Carlton. That said, Kuhio Beach Grill on the second floor is owned and operated by Marriott, it's not a privately owned business, as is D.K. Steak and Sansei upstairs. As for my review, I initially was going to give them 4 Yelp Stars, only subtracting 1 from 5 because I think the venue (the space) itself needs a little help. Which actually is more a logistics issue than that would concern customers. Thus, I'm giving them 5 regardless of that mainly because Diner K and her friend who she took for a birthday dinner last night RAVED about the place. So I'm factoring that as a "surrogate" part of this review, being they're not Yelpers. The food and service were "Out of this World!" according to them. And they should know, being they both work in the hotel F&B industry themselves right down the street. They loved the food so much, they've made it a point to return. And they were given "royalty treatment" by Kuhio Beach Grill staff. This, meaning the Chef on duty that night personally came out and talked with them, also offering a complimentary sampling of their Hamakua Mushroom and Local Tomato Flatbread Pizza. Add to that, the birthday girl received a complimentary chocolate cake, complete with lit candle and a Happy Birthday song played by the live musician that night. Nice! I will second that on the food, as I got to sample their Ahi Carpaccio Salad, Organic Quinoa Salad, Ahi Poke Musubi, Crispy Pork, Hapa Paella, Creme Brulee and Chocolate Mousse Cake, and all of it was OUTSTANDING. In fact, Diner K and her birthday girlfriend loved the Crispy Pork so much, they ordered a second plate that same night! Wow! They also raved about the steak and Kauai Shrimp, noting how perfect the flavors and overall execution was. Kuhio Beach Grill also serves a buffet on Friday and Saturday, as well as wine tasting events every first Wednesday of the month. Live music on scheduled evenings as well. Overall, Kuhio Beach Grill is definitely a great dining option to consider out of all the choices you've got in "Waiks". Food, drinks and service are as great as it gets, while you also get a nice elevated view of Kuhio Beach Waikiki. Not to mention FREE parking! Came here for dinner, against our better judgement. The restaurant is nice, clean, modern. We got seated right away...the server was nice and did his best at assisting, but still did a bad job. We placed our order, but the food did not come out for over 35 minutes. The server mentioned that it would be out shortly, but it was still over 10 minutes from that point. The food came out basically lukewarm. The food was not as advertised -- crinkle cut fries are not waffle fries, and a basil pesto is not red. We were trying to determine which of the dishes was the one we were waiting for, but everything was not hot...the fries were the hottest thing, but even then they weren't hot....so there was something going on. From the salad to the pasta to the burger and prime rib, everything was just not worth the high price tag. read more

Kuhio beach grill is located in waikiki beach marriott hotel.. the restaurant is actually in the process of renovating so they've been moving the restaurant into different ballrooms of the hotel. This restaurant is actually one of our favorite buffets because for the price of a dinner buffet in waikiki and the quality of the food, it's totally worth it. I hardly give 5 stars BUT this based on the value of a prime rib dinner. This is a casual restaurant with average food but what puts it over the top is that it is a prime rib buffet. It's about $32 on weekdays and I think it's $45 on Friday and Saturday because it includes crab legs. Plus they also offer kama'aina discount which I believe it's 20% . I think it's safe to say any dinner buffet in town are over $45 and $60 for crab. We see it as $30 for all you can eat prime rib, and everything else is an extra bonus. The rib is cooked perfectly at med rare (they will cook your slice more if you prefer) with perfect blend of seasoning, serve with traditional horse radish and au jus. Every night of the week has a different theme. I think it was a Wednesday the last time we went and it was Mexican-ish theme with burritos and Spanish rice, etc. We've always had wonderful servers who've all been there for 20+ years. All these aunties really embrace true aloha spirit and genuine warmth that keeps us coming back.
