As soon as we walked into Kuma, the vibe was super welcoming. We got seated really fast, even on a Saturday afternoon. The food came out quickly, which was a plus. We ordered a few things from the menu. Chicken gyoza (so good), miso soup that was warm and perfect for the cold weather, and the crunch shrimp roll, which tasted fresh and had a really satisfying taste. June was GREAT! From the moment I walked in, everyone was very welcoming. Since I came in by myself, they offered to seat me at the bar, and I actually really enjoyed how attentive the staff was. I tried the Ex-Girlfriend and the French Kiss rolls, and both were delicious. The Ex-Girlfriend was a familiar favorite and it didn't disappoint, BUT the French Kiss had a flavor combo that really surprised me! I had never tried anything like it. It had the perfect touch of citrus from the lemon, and you could really taste the salmon and all the other flavors coming together. So delicious! June, the sushi chef, was kind and made the experience even better. Since it was my first time there, he asked me a few questions to figure out what I might like, and his recommendations were spot on. i think i've found my new favorite sushi place. my date and i arrived for our valentine's day dinner-hungryyy! it is very cute spot! lots of tables available, and some bar seating. We were greeted immediately, and our server was very polite and attentive. we ordered the ponzu yellowtail jalapeño appetizer.. so fresh and i definitely wanted more! also ordered three rolls: green pinky salmon roll, sweet & hot roll, & rockstar shrimp roll everything was fantastic, super fresh, and we left very satisfied ready for the next stretch of our date. i highly recommend this place, and i know we will be back. read more

I'm working through my list of places to visit in Bakersfield, and this was next up. We were seated immediately in a clean and inviting environment. The server was friendly and answered all my questions. They offer lunch specials until 3 PM, followed by happy hour. My favorite dishes were the popcorn lobster, Mr. Gump roll, and tempura California roll, while my least favorite was the sweet and spicy. The bathrooms were clean. Went here on a friday evening, absolutely beautiful decor, the ambience is light and warm. very comfortable but an elevated feel. We changed up our sushi spot the weekend before this weekend and it was really good. I was pretty impressed how pretty the rolls looked and how delicious they were. We went all out and got an appetizer and 4 rolls. Not gonna lie, we ended up eating everything even though we felt like we were too stuffed. The inside looks nicely decorated. It's very clean and they have music playing overhead. My only complaint is that their chair wasn't comfortable. We sat on the chairs the looks like wood/bamboo and it was super hard. The chairs looked nice, but not comfortable to sit at. They had other chairs at other tables as well as booths. They had tons of tables and when we visited there were others dining in. The service was amazing. The lady that waited on us might have been the owner or a family member, but she was super friendly and our service was super fast. She wasn't in a rush to boot us out, she made our visit feel nice. We definitely will be back. The prices are pretty normal compared to other sushi spots, but they have a good lunch special where you buy 3 of their basic rolls for about $20. After my camping trip in Kings Canyon in Sequoia national Park and reflecting on the sense of peace, connection with nature, and the desire to the simple joy of the outdoors...on my way back to my home in Southern California( I also have a home in Northern California too) I stoped in Bakersfield for an early dinner at Kuna Sushi. After having heavy camping meals, sushi sounded good and hit the spot. The service here was excellent and the ambiance inside the restaurant was to my taste. The sushi was delicious and fresh. If you're looking for place to eat when you are driving along central California, I highly recommend this place. Orders: Tempura (large): I'm always hesitant to order tempura at restaurants because it's easy to mess it up, but this one was great! Not too oily, not soggy. The batter on this was light and crispy. It was super hot when it came out, so be careful not to burn your mouth. Salmon lovers roll: spicy salmon and cucumber on the inside, with salmon and avocado on the outside. Delicious when dipped in a little bit of soy sauce. FlaMango roll: the favorite of the table!! Tempura shrimp and crab on the inside, with mango and salmon on the outside. I wasn't sure if I'd like the mango with rice, but it was SO good. I sorta wish we had ordered two of these. Logistically, street parking was easy. The food was a little pricey (expected for quality sushi), but it was overall a solid place for a meal. Great food with amazing service. Our server was kind, attentive, and pleasant to interact with. First time trying this place out. This use to be Toros location but has now closed and is now Kuma sushi. I was very impressed with everything I ordered. The French kiss roll was my favorite for sure. It was delicious and refreshing if you like lemon you will enjoy the shaved piece of lemon that is right on top of the roll. Not overpowering just a nice little crunch does not take away from the flavor of the roll. It all comes together so well! I also really enjoyed the crispy rice with spicy tuna on top it was delicious great appetizer for sure. I will defiantly be back for more delicious food. We usually get our fix from Hi Sushi, but this place was closer and was offering a good deal on the app. I will say that for our first time eating Kuma Sushi, it was impressive and very delicious! We ordered double of the Creamy Salmon, Crunch Shrimp, and Philadelphia Rolls. Everything was packaged beautifully. When we picked up our order, we liked the ambiance of the inside of the restaurant. Enjoyed the California roll but the tuna one wasn't the best. Not sure if it's how they cut the tuna or the tuna itself but it was a bit too chewy for my liking; the muscle fibers were very prominent. The same with the salmon in my sister's roll. I wish I had more positive things to say about the experience and while the food was great, the service, was so disappointing. This is what unfortunately ruined our time there for our larger party of people was absolutely terrible. We went as a family who was just happy to be there and celebrate an accomplishment and left not wanting to ever return and not because of the food or the front door staff. I start this by saying we absolute appreciate service staff and are a polite family who were happy to be there. From the start the waitress who was an older woman, was completely rude and dismissive, and seemed to have an awful attitude. She not only made the entire table uncomfortable as went to celebrate a huge milestone for my younger brother but consistently answered menu questions with sarcasm and a frustrated tone while reaching over our party without the slightest of manners to say excuse me. She proceeded with an odd tone towards the table when we ordered a few rolls to start the table off from the happy hour menu as if we wouldn't be able to afford the items we ordered. The general experience was poor and the discriminatory attitude was noticed by 8 out of the 10 people of our party individually. Thankfully she was kind to the grandparents we had at the table. But overall we will never be returning. I hope that woman doesn't do this to any customers. Left a terrible taste and feeling about the place and the experience. read more
