This is my brother's and my top favorite sushi spot in town! My brother, my friends, and I have been frequenting this place since it opened. The food is always on point, and the sushi always tastes fresh. They have awesome lunch and happy hour specials that my brother and I can never get enough of. We love the regular rolls--they're always packed with the right amount of fish, etc. The service is good, and the ambience is romantic. The decor has a clean, industrial-modern vibe, and I love it. The owner is super sweet as well--I love seeing an owner so involved in their restaurant and so accommodating to their customers. Sister and I went for the lunch specials during the week. There were plenty of open seats and very attentive servers. We decided to each get the 2 roll lunch combo. Enjoyed the California roll but the tuna one wasn't the best. Not sure if it's how they cut the tuna or the tuna itself but it was a bit too chewy for my liking; the muscle fibers were very prominent. The same with the salmon in my sister's roll. Can't believe this place has been in Bakersfield since 2001, and this is my first time going. Located in downtown Bakersfield . Clean and decorated cute in the inside. They have a happy hour Monday - Friday 3-5pm $5 beers and table wine and half off a list of some of their sushi. Sushi tasted fresh and satisfied our craving. We typically love coming here. The food is always great. But I wanted to caution others to ensure that your food is being cooked properly especially if you are pregnant. I ordered a roll with shrimp tempura and the shrimp was not fully cooked. I ordered takeout so I didn't realize this until I got home. I heard a lot about this place and finally I got to visit. It turned out it just took over one of my favorite sushi restaurants in town, they have big shoes to fill. The decor is beautiful, unchanged from previous restaurant, which is a great thing. The waitress was sweet and attentive, my beer was in my hand in minutes. I ordered soft shell crab appetizer. It turned out to be a whole salad with avocado and greens. The salad was lightly seasoned, which I really appreciate. It is big enough for a whole meal probably for a petite woman, but I am not one so I ordered sushi. I asked for something with salmon, and the waitress recommended this roll in my photo. We walked around town a little waiting for their restaurant to open as we arrived a little before 11:30, and when we finally made our way back only 10 minutes after opening time I was pleasantly surprised to see another table already seated. I went with something new for me and ordered Lisa's Lobster Roll. Everything. Was. Amazing. Edamame was edamame lol The gyozas were piping hot, and the dip sauce had a nice citrusy taste. The Kuma and Lobster roll have been left on my mind all day. The Kuma was light and fresh despite its delicate mixture of ingredients, and the Lobster Roll was warm, filling, and comforting with every bite. For dessert we decided to try the taiyaki for the first time (fish shaped pastry). I'm assuming it was the manager who brought out the dessert herself, she came by and surprised us with a tall glass with not one, but two taiyaki and a side of fresh fruit. So thoughtful! I had to downgrade my rating today. I went in for sushi and it turns out the chef who rolled the small, half size roll during half price last time, is the owner, which explains why he was skimpy with portions when the other chefs roll them standard size. He mentioned the average Yelp review I left, and rather than make it up to me to get a better review, he refused service because I gave him an average review. The pictures speak for themselves, he rolled the skimpiest roll I ever had. I have been eating sushi for over 30 years. Poor customer service, and it shows he doesn't care about keeping customers. I wish I had more positive things to say about the experience and while the food was great, the service, was so disappointing. This is what unfortunately ruined our time there for our larger party of people was absolutely terrible. We went as a family who was just happy to be there and celebrate an accomplishment and left not wanting to ever return and not because of the food or the front door staff. I start this by saying we absolute appreciate service staff and are a polite family who were happy to be there. From the start the waitress who was an older woman, was completely rude and dismissive, and seemed to have an awful attitude. She not only made the entire table uncomfortable as went to celebrate a huge milestone for my younger brother but consistently answered menu questions with sarcasm and a frustrated tone while reaching over our party without the slightest of manners to say excuse me. She proceeded with an odd tone towards the table when we ordered a few rolls to start the table off from the happy hour menu as if we wouldn't be able to afford the items we ordered. The general experience was poor and the discriminatory attitude was noticed by 8 out of the 10 people of our party individually. Thankfully she was kind to the grandparents we had at the table. But overall we will never be returning. I hope that woman doesn't do this to any customers. Left a terrible taste and feeling about the place and the experience. read more

Immediately walking in, my first impressions was that we were underdressed and in the wrong location because it looks so nice. With that being said, the service and treatment we received were beyond amazing, much like the ambiance of the place. We make our usual pitstop in Bakersfield for dinner before heading all the way to Vegas from the east bay, so we are a bit picky with our pick. We took a big chance as there's only 5 reviews, but all 5 stars! When we arrived without reservation, my family of 7 were given the long table in the back, where it felt cozy and private. The food here is pretty great, comparable to the bay and Japan. I would like to add that they are a bit heavy on the dressings and sauces, but some may prefer it that way. My favorite roll is the In & Out salmon roll, which is wrapped in soy paper. I love that they have soy paper options as the texture is just amazing. Special mention to the chicken fried rice as it had an umami flavor I didn't expect from a sushi spot. We had to wait a bit for our food as they received many online orders while we were dining it (takeouts missing out, they have a lovely ambiance and waitresses), so we collected many items on the house for the time. It took almost 2 hours to dine, and they were beyond generous with their offers. Remember to check in for a free soda! As this place is new, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for trying to figure out multitasking with many orders, and timing. Their ambiance, customer service, and food is already perfect.
