Charlie managed to make me walk out of Kume with a new body. Post 6 hours later i still feel amazing. I tend to neglect my body with tension and stress until its unbearable. After todays 1 hour "deep" body massage I feel so relaxed , neck pain free! I recommend Charlie and I'm sure all other providers. +make sure to check your massage table sheets are clean, the headrest when i laid down on the table had a set of mascara stains as it was not cleaned. I've been here many years ago when it first opened, but didn't care for it. Overpriced and mediocre massages. Today, I went in to try it again, thinking after all these years, they've expanded to several locations, surely they must be better. Nope. When I called for my appointment, I asked how much of the 1-hour massage was the feet vs. another body part. I was told 5 minutes would be neck and arms, and the rest would be feet, with a little calves thrown in. What I got was 35 minutes of "massage" on my neck and arms. I paid extra for a foot salt scrub. What I got was an excruciating rubbing of salt on my calves, with very little salt scrubbing on the actual feet (where people actually need it!). The "massage" on my feet was mediocre. A little bit of rubbing around the ankle. A quick swipe here or there of the middle of the foot. And far too long pressing on the toes of the left foot (but not the right foot for some reason). The massage pace was fast - as if the masseuse was in a race. So much for being relaxing. The masseuse was wearing air pods, so perhaps he wasn't focused on what he was doing? He also kept sniffling, and wasn't wearing a mask. Being in flu/RSV/COVID season, this made me concerned. When I checked out, I let the receptionist know how poor the treatment was, how much time was spent on my feet, and that the salt scrub caused me pain. The response I got was to put this masseuse on a "not preferred" list. I ended up paying $90 for a 1-hour foot "massage" that left me in pain with torn up calves. See photos to see the damage. FWIW, you'll have to pay $5 extra to pay with a credit card, and even if you have bad service you'll be asked if you want to tip. Very disappointing. I used to be loyal customer years ago before the pandemic and have not been back for years and years. I decided to give it a try and booked an appointment. The day before the appointment they called telling me that I needed to call them back to confirm. Already I don't like this because I don't have time to call people back. You can send a text if you need someone to confirm. When I called back 30 min after they had left their message they said that they had no record of my appointment. I will not be going back. I never write reviews, but this one really bothered me and I had to get it off my chest - My experience at Kume was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a massage spa - first of all, I asked for a deep tissue massage and they didn't even do a deep tissue...they just focused on only the hot stones. Then the massage was combined with a "sauna" experience and boy was it ever an experience to never do again...it was a joke and very confusing...you have to go outside, in your robe, into another space, where the "sauna" was one of those saunas for your home for one person, not two ppl! The entrance was deceiving. When you enter it is very stylish. Reception greets you immediately. Very clean and efficient. You are made welcome and asked to wait in the lobby at the herbed tea station. Yum. There were 3 of us. and our team arrived within minutes. It was then I was introduced to Paul as I recall, my masseuse. It begins with an incredible 15 minute acupressure and foot massage. There is a small room that is very dark with 4 super chairs while you soak in hot water and drift away. Soft ethereal music was the final touch. The fact that Paul spoke very little English and could be a barrier, and his professional touch soon shows you they are very skilled. I admit I pleasantly drifted a bit. ***a suggestion. While trying to relax I could hear all the talking in the reception area. It's so close it was distracting. A door instead of a curtain would end it. When the 15 minutes ended we were taken to our independent comfortable clean rooms and the 60 minute massage began. I'm not sure what style it was, but seemed familiar to what I had in Asia called Chinese style. Very different and pleasant. Decided to *finally* write this after 4 months of going back to the spa to speak with the owner and emailing them, but receiving no response. I came to Kume in March for the first time and one of the worst "spa" experiences I've ever had. I walked by it all the time and read reviews, so I thought I'd try it. I booked a hair wash and massage right after. From the moment I walked in, the experience was so stressful, I was annoyed on the inside the entire time. Why? 1. They were 15 mins late. No one noticed or mentioned it until I said something. Because of that, everything was rushed and hurried during my time - the *opposite* of how I wanted to feel at a massage. 2. The hair wash was not a sink but a "bed" where you lie down fully naked with a woman washing your hair with a bucket aggressively. Water splashed everywhere, I was freezing on this weird bed. It was a big shock to my system to have to get undressed in what looked like a large metal fridge, with the door slightly ajar. 3. The massage room wasn't ready so they handed me one towel and I had to stand in this hallway so they could get the room ready, hair dripping and body freezing during this whole time in a towel with other people around. 4. No one spoke English so it was hard to communicate even though I tried multiple times. I think they tried their best to start my service but it was so hurried and rushed that it felt super stressful. 5. My massage room was freezing with no heated bed, the room was dark so it was hard to feel around, and the floor was dirty; I really didn't want to take off my shoes. I wanted to get dry, get warm, wrap my head or at least ring it out, and *then* get my massage. Instead it was wet, cold, dirty, and no one understood what I was saying. I could hear everything happening outside. 6. The massage lady was sweet actually, but it was hard to communicate with her and she didn't understand what I said. She pushed hard/deeply in some places on my back and in other places used way too light of a touch. I also didn't want any pounding on my back but she did it anyway. I was annoyed, stressed, and so uncomfortable the entire time just waiting for it to end. 7. After the massage, I spoke with the front desk and let them know about my experience and that I would love to speak to the owner; maybe we could work something or I could try another massage or they could refund me. I know it's tough running a business, but when a customer comes back to you repeatedly to try to make things right without immediately going to the Internet to write a bad review, I would listen. I went back 4 times in *person* and then emailed the owner. I never received any response and each time I go the staff is apologetic and friendly, but nothing's been done. I had arrived to do a couples massage with my partner after running a marathon and I very much left the place feeling very comfortable and relaxed. My partner can agree he had a very high quality and enjoyable experience. These massage therapists really know what they are doing. They are incredibly skilled at their craft. They pinpointed exactly where the tensions were and gave extra emphasis to those areas while still being able to cover the entire body. Best massage I have ever received thus far. I purchased a Groupon deal for the spa pre-pandemic. Too much life happened before it expired, but thankfully I was able to purchase a new deal which was similar to the first one. Anyway... I finally made it there. They have awesome customer service. On the morning of my appointment they left me a message informing me of an equipment malfunction and option to reschedule or keep the appointment. Hours passed before I heard the message and called with intent to reschedule, but the issue was resolved. I was going to be late and they said they would still accommodate me. I was clearly in need of a spa treatment because I parked and didn't pay attention to the address (they used to be located further down the block and the sign is still up), but the receptionist didn't make me feel stupid when I called to clarify the address. My hurried energy was zapped when I entered the spa. The ambience was calming. Now for the treatment: Korean scrub with coconut oil enhancement, I also added on shampoo and scalp massage. It started with me during in a personal sauna for 10 minutes. Then onto the table where I was rinsed and scrubbed and oiled multiple times (I was fighting sleep because I was so relaxed). It felt like I had new skin when she was finished; hence the shampoo and scalp massage, didn't want it to end. I will definitely return again. read more

Good service and massage. My girlfriend and I did a couple's 30 minute full body massage with Jerry and Tony. The guys did a great job with the massage, yet there was a heavy focus on the upper body and less on the lower body. Here's the downside. We tipped them after we were done. Then, front desk tells us the total price and we ask for the breakdown. There's the split of the service of the massage, but then an extra $10, which breaks down further into a $5 hidden fee (17%!) per person, which she did not mention when I called to make an appointment. Definitely changed my perception of the place. We are for supporting local businesses with transparent pricing and we hope that this issue will be communicated to future clients ahead of time. read more

Unfortunately, another mixed experience at Kume Spa. I booked a Korean Scrub with the "Coconut Enhancement". The scrub was fine, and the lady who performed it was lovely and thorough. However: -They first put you in the sauna for what I was told would be 15 min. The timer went off, I waited, and nobody showed up. After 10 minutes, I stepped into the common hallway to get somebody's attention. Mind you, I was wearing the "hospital" underwear I was asked to change into. Not the most comfortable moment to have to step out of the room in it The scrub was rough, but I expected and liked that. After she scrubbed me, I wondered what this "Coconut enhancement" was going to be. It was just a very thin coconut lotion, which she spread all over my body quite rapidly. However, she did not put it on my back, which is where I mostly needed it. And then, she asked me to shower! Immediately after the "enhancement." Shouldn't it be the other way around? -Then I was told to dress, and I could see that she was rushed (not necessarily rushing me, but she clearly had another client immediately after me). That is fine, but if they had not left me waiting 10 minutes after the sauna, I would have had more time to get dressed without rushing. This, by the way, is not easy. There are no chairs in the room, so if one wants to change, one has to do it standing or seated in the sauna, which I did not want to do -The facilities are lackluster. They spent money when they first opened but maintenance is poor. See photos of the bathroom -But the worst part was the customer service skills (or lack of them) of the person at the front desk. When I was checking out, I noticed on their price list that the extra cost for the "Coconut enhancement" was $20. Politely, I asked if that is what I had gotten. She tried to explain that it was a special scrub with special blah blah. I felt as if she was trying to confuse me. The scrub was performed with Castile soap, and then she used that thin coconut lotion (which, again, she lathered over me for what was, at most, 30 seconds). I wanted to know whether THAT is why they charge the extra $20, particularly given I was asked to shower immediately after application. I asked again, and she became visibly irritated by my question. I asked her whether the question bothered her, and she said, "I responded, but you keep asking me," And I said, "Yes, because I cannot understand your answer". In sum: they ask for $20 extra bucks to put some cheap coconut lotion for less than minute. That is the "enhancement" Long story short: the scrub was OK, but the customer service was dismal, and, as this was my first time there, they are a money-grabbing machine. read more

I came here for a Korean body scrub. It was fine but a little lacking. Im used to a Korean body scrub including a hot tub and generally just chilling out. Kume doesn't have a hot tub or a body of water in any way. You do get to hang out in a very small sauna for 15min before your scrub, but that's it. There is no changing room and you put your things in a bin in front of the tiled scrub room. So you're basically changing in a hallway. I know no one else was coming in, but it's a bit odd. So you sauna, walk to 15ft to the scrub room, get scrubbed and then you're done. You're handed a towel and your bin full of clothing and sent on your way. The scrub itself was good and my skin feels great. But the entire experience was meh. read more

I was so excited to try this place, boy was I so disappointed. My masseuse vigorously rubbed THE oilist massage lotion on my body. Just RUBBED, key word. Not massage. I laid down with my sports bra on and he told me i needed to take it off in order for him to do the massage. There is a sign posted in the room that clearly states " you may leave as much clothing on as you feel comfortable...." I came back the next day with hops I would get a new masseuse for the cupping. Sadly i got the same guy. Who again rigorously rubbed lotion on my back then cupped for maybe 7 min. He did not ask me what my problem areas or anything. I came out of there more stressed than going in. Also, the front desk told me I could use my insurance to bill the cupping. And when I arrived a different front desk told me they don't do that. And could care less that I was given misinformation. If I canceled the appointment on the spot they would charge anyways. Just never again. read more

Received a gift certificate. I called however, no on answered but responded by text when I made it clear that I wanted a female massage therapist. A person also called for a credit card to place on file, which I again, mentioned the female massage therapist where she stated it would be Lily. Fast forward to the next day when I was escorted to the room to find a man standing outside the room who smelled like he just returned from a cigarette smoke break (thus all the cigarette butts on the sidewalk and in the planter a few doors down Grand (near SF Fitness). He raises his voice as I entered the room, "LIE FAAAAACE DOOOOOWN!" and then he immediately closes the door where I assume he wanted me to undress first. This man did not say hello, welcome to Kume, or give a smile. He returns a few minutes later and I ask him if he was Lily. He did not answer but left the room then a woman I assume was Lily returned. This same woman greeted me upon arrival where I asked if she was Lily but she didn't respond. Check in - When I checked in, I answered a questioner that had a body diagram where it instructs you to X out areas you do not want touched and circle areas you wanted the massage therapist to focus. Well, in the room on the floor when I arrived was my completed form on a clipboard. Lily obviously did not look at my requests whatsoever. I did tell her twice while she was massaging to not touch my feet, ankles, and calves. She did anyhow as I do not believe she understood English very well. She only said, "OK OK OK". What a waste of $103.00 plus a $15.00 tip. Kume management - 1) A spa should be a tranquil setting at all times. 2) A man or woman with an elevated voice is not only disruptive to my peace but to other clients. 3) NEVER EVER ALLOW A MASSAGE THERAPIST TO SMOKE AND THEN TRY TO MASSAGE A CLIENT AS IT IS DISGUSTING TO US NON-SMOKERS. 4) The service was paid for with my requests for my body to be followed. 5) If a person requests a male or female for whatever reason they have you should follow this requests. It is a highly personal situation and their reasons are their reason. Never again. Went in for a massage this week. Chose Kume because I had been there once before (2007) and remember it being decent. I called them morning of to set up an appointment, as their online system was confusing. No one picked up the call, and I left a VM requesting a call back. I immediately received a text message back. We then proceeded to go through a several text long thread of messages to book an appointment, which was a little frustrating. I mentioned I was available for a phone call which would have been quicker, and my questions could be answered better, but no one ever called me. Eventually we agreed on a time. The prices are cheaper than I would expect, for a reputable massage in the bay area, which kind of makes sense now. Everything was good on arrival- reception was great, the waiting area/lobby was nice and included complimentary tea and water. They asked if I wanted to add aromatherapy for $10 and I agreed. I should have asked what their aromatherapy consisted of. Had I known it was just scented massage oil, I would not have added that on. The actual massage is where things did not go as planned. The masseuse's energy felt frantic, disorganized, kind of like she didn't know what she was doing. There was constant painful pressure placed on spine- I had to ask her to stop pressing on my spine, which to me is massage therapy 101- don't press on the spine, but I could be wrong about that, IDK. Her style includes a lot of pounding and slapping, which did not allow me to relax. She dug her nails into my scalp which didn't feel particularly good, and neither did her placing her fingers in my ears and wiggling them around. She was a very sweet and kind person, and she was trying, but it was not what I wanted. Back to the aromatherapy- only consisted of a lavender scented massage oil, which was all used on my back- I couldn't smell it as I was face down and had the usual nasal congestion that comes with lying in that position. I would not pay for this again. If I am paying for aromatherapy, I expect to be able to smell it at all times during the massage. I don't know what any of the other masseuses are like at this facility, but the chances are I would not return. read more

With the recent murder and suicide that took place in the spa, I feel quite safe considering the shooter is deceased. It's a very peaceful and cozy establishment. I usually love this place but my last two massages have been awful (from the same guy). I realize the staff have experienced a trauma (and maybe they need more support than they are getting) but my massage therapist truly seemed angry I was even there. He aggressively pulled at my leggings, closed the door loudly, was angry when he was coughing and I asked him to pull up his mask. It was truly uncomfortable and upsetting. This is my body, please don't take your anger out on me. It's a lot of money for me to get a babysitter and then pay for this massage. I'd like to at least feel like you care even a little bit. First time I tried Flotation Pod, I floated easily at another spa. I used to be a regular customer at Kume spa until I was groped by a masseuse. For a WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS, I'd have expected some care or concern, but... I NEVER got a reply. My UNANSWERED email is below: Dear Merna, I am writing in hopes of giving Kume a chance to directly address the disturbing experience I had at Kume today during my scheduled 3-4:30pm massage. The masseuse started by wrapping the sheet around me and running his hands down the length of my body from glutes to feet, over and over again. In addition, he rubbed my glutes SIDEWAYS (across cheeks), which is absolutely unheard of. When the masseuse took the sheet off me, he continued using the same "stroke" with the whole hand at a gentle pressure. Again, I have never had a "masseuse" repeatedly press their fingertips into my butt. I asked him 3-4 times for firm pressure, but he kept adding so much oil it would have been impossible anyway -- regardless, there was no pressure. Since I was getting very uncomfortable with his hands rubbing my butt with no actual purpose, I asked him to switch to his elbows. Moreover, everytime he ran his elbow down my back, his hand would brush my entire butt, across both cheeks from side to side.  I was trying to give him the benefit of a doubt by letting him work with his elbows but now he was touching my butt unnecessarily. Finally, when he worked on my shoulder, I thought I could relax. However, he rested his free arm ON MY BUTT, with his hand facing downward.  I calmed myself down enough and finally told him, "This isn't working." I am still shaking as I write you this email because I feel so violated. I drove 1 hour to Oakland for this experience, and 1.5 hours back home to the South Bay. I feel incredibly upset and violated. I bought a Groupon for "Korean" body scrub with coconut scrub add on. I also added on a 30 minute foot reflexology session. The foot reflexology was decent. One of the cleaner Chinese foot massage places I've been to. But I was asked what pressure I want by the receptionist to which I said medium to firm and I don't know if it wasn't related but the pressure was more light than medium. The cigarette breath of the gentlemen blowing on my face as he massaged my shoulders didn't add to the experience. Then the body scrub. I put "Korean" in parenthesis because there was nothing Korean about it. Let me preface by stating that I am Korean and have gotten Korean body scrubs in Korea. I am fairly confident that this was set up by someone who has never gotten a Korean body scrub in their lives. The lady who gave me the scrub had no idea either. Korean body scrubs are usually done in very warm, very moist room and a lot more effort is placed on scrubbing as the goal is to extract the noodle like rolls of dead skin and grim from your skin. Of course, I got none of that. The room was cold, extra cold when I came out of the sauna, I had to climb up on the table butt naked and most of the time, I was lying there on the hard table really really cold. Why have a table with sprout on all sides to keep the person warm if they don't use it?! I told the lady that I was cold and she laughed like I was being extra and said she would raise the heat, which didn't help. In-between scrubbing, she would just be doing something I couldn't see while I waited, cold on the hard table. I felt like a corpse on a slab! Afterwards, I told the receptionist how cold I was during the scrub and she just blinked at me, turned to her coworker and said "I wonder if the ac was on or something?" To which her coworker just shrugged. Then she asked me if I wanted to leave gratuity. Which I did because they still did the work but man...this was not worth my hard-earned money (even if it was a Groupon) or leaving my 2 young kids for my mom to watch while I got some very rare time for myself. Won't be back. Why? Several reasons: -The toilet paper was so thin and cheap it stuck to my body like a second skin -As a first time customer no one told me the prices in the pamphlets were incorrect as the front desk people watched me read from them to make my selections -again first time customer and my sweet masseuse led me into a communal room with no words just "hello" and hand gestures for my foot reflexology. -Also zero privacy for the foot reflexology which I was never informed of and had front row seats as people got loudly slapped and massaged. It was just weird there weren't curtains long enough to separate each chair from another. -I was SO CONFUSED as to why I was being massaged and there was a guy with crocs on just sleeping in there and not getting a service. -Paid for aromatherapy and never smelled a whiff of eucalyptus oil and when I brought it up at check out, she said "they put it on your back not your face" I'm embarrassed for her. Honey, I know it's not supposed to be on your face but the fact that the whole session smelled like printer paper means eucalyptus oil wasn't used or a really old or cheap one was used. - My masseuse also just splatter freezing cold oil/lotion on my back without warming it in her hands at all. Disappointing. I received a Kume Spa gift card for my birthday in May and was looking forward to finally using it this week. I finished a grueling 3-year grad program on Monday and thought a spa day would be a nice way to celebrate. I made an appointment for a body scrub + massage combo. When asked over the phone for my preference, I said I'd prefer a female masseuse. The body scrub was an interesting experience; however, what I was most looking forward to was a massage. I went back to the lobby to wait for my masseuse to be ready (note: unlike other spas I've gone to over the years, Kume doesn't have a private waiting area between services). Unfortunately, the only masseuse who was available was a man. I insisted that I had requested a female masseuse, but one of the ladies at the front desk claimed she asked if I was OK with a male one when she took my appointment over the phone. Impossible. I have never been comfortable with that, so it was clear to us both that there had been a miscommunication. The ladies at the front desk said that there was a female masseuse in that day, but that she'd only be able to provide a half-hour massage. That wasn't acceptable to me, so I decided to cancel the massage altogether. They waived my service fee for the body + scalp scrub, but it still came out to $80 because apparently they haven't updated the prices on their website or brochure. There was no mention of these price changes when I booked the appointment or when I checked their website, so I left with a bad impression of this business. They said they'd honor the first-time visit price for my next massage, but nothing about today's experience made me want to return. Miscommunication aside, the facilities are pretty basic. Honestly, the scrub room felt a little dingy. Also, the woman who did my body scrub was disinfecting the bed while I was drying off and getting dressed, so that was awkward. Friendly staff but place is small, given its downtown. If you are looking for a proper Korean/Chinese/Japanese bathhouse experience this is NOT it. It's more for white people to experience Asian skincare as novelty. Body scrub 30 mins INCLUDES the time you are in the sauna and showering off the soap. Actual scrub was less than 15 minutes. $60 is not worth it at all, better to just get soak, sauna, and steam room elsewhere and scrub yourself in the shower. The sauna was weak highest temp was 98 (wtf), even 24 hour fitness sauna is more effective, giving a realistic reference point. The lady scrubbing me was too gentle and I was left with a lot of flaky skin that I exfoliated off at home afterwards. Probably a nice experience for Americans never experienced real bathhouse where you can eat and hang out there for several hours with your friends, going to different saunas and pools and a strong handed lady to scrub your skin to newborn like. This is not what I was looking for, too expensive for the quality of service and amenities available. Wish they had more descriptions on the website so I didn't waste my time and just went to PSY Spa in San Leandro instead. Chao~ read more

First time at this spa. I got a 90 minute combo massage (customized) from Groupon. I added hot stones for $20 more. Also, only the 19th Street location takes Groupon appointments. Its a smaller space but I like small and intimate spaces. It had a relaxing and calming vibe. Pretty decor and mostly very relaxing. Soft colors and nice soft music in the background. Very clean and Coid-safe. Leland took his time to listen and answered all my questions. He is incredibly calm and so knowledgable about injuries and anatomy and massage therapy. My husband got me a gift certificate here for my birthday, so I booked an appt for a 1 hour massage this week. I had asked the staff beforehand via email who does deep-tissue massage, and was told Lily or Yo-Yo. (There are no descriptions of the massage therapists on the website at all.) So I booked an appt with Lily. She is a lovely, older Chinese woman, who probably has a lot of experience in massage. HOWEVER, like some of the other reviewers (I mean most people's bodies have issues of some kind!)-- I have 2 injuries, one which is pretty recent. I tried to tell Lily about it---its on my foot--- and she didn't speak any English. I tried hard to communicate with her in the first part of the massage, but I gave up, and just hoped for the best. She did go on to touch my foot, even though I *tried to tell her not to. Luckily, I was not hurt. But if you are going to run a massage therapy based spa, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A WAY FOR THE CLIENT TO TELL THE THERAPIST WHAT INJURIES THEY HAVE! I've gone to many chiropractors, PT's, etc, that have a simple form with a basic picture of a body, and you can circle the areas on it that are bothering you. If Kume is going to have therapists who don't speak English-- then they NEED to have some other way for the clients to communicate with the therapist. In addition, although Lily was very sweet, she did use her elbows A TON during the massage, which I really dislike, AND she was moving at a fast pace. I would not have been able to tell her about that, either. So, please, Kume Spa, give your therapists a form to give to each client. You can really hurt someone during a massage, and I didn't feel entirely safe. I just had to trust that nothing was going to happen. I got my first ever fungal infection after the Korean style body scrub. I've had the basic foot massages and they were lovely, but I've never noticed what their sanitation practices are. Luckily the foot wash has plastic protecting you from others' germs. I guess the scrub table, just covered by a slippery shower curtain, may not be as clean. read more

My better half had purchased a Groupon for a 40 minute body and 50 minute foot massage at Kume. It is always a gamble when you go somewhere new, fortunately my better half knew of some the staff massage therapists at Kume. Upon reception they have you fill out a body chart for locations that you want work and keep out areas. Let's say you have a shoulder that just had an operation or a sprained ankle, which would be ouchie mamas if the therapist went to town on that location. My therapist was Tim and I thought he was really good I had requested a deep tissue massage and that means everything that is identified on the body chart will be massaged. The spa area is clean this where you are positioned for hair, front and back to work on your shoulders, back and neck. You are leaned over frontwards, then moved a sitting down position in the chair. For this type of massage you have all your clothes on. After the chair massage you are led to a room where you have a bed for back and front massage. You are requested to remove your shirts and pants, keep you undies on if you want. You have a soft blanket over your body and a head towel. The therapist works over the shoulders, neck and back because that is what I identified on the chart. I'm glad I did not go to the gym before because the therapist finds every tight location and knot on your body. I thought Tim was very thorough, really good at foot reflexology too. For $85 you can get an amazing 1 hour massage that really helps gets rid of the worst of knots. I have some bad muscle tightness due to a desk job, and the deep tissue treatment from Joe the masseuse is next level. So much so, after I got my first massage I immediately scheduled my next massage a week later. They apply a lot of pressure and use elbows to undo the knots - that's what I needed and it felt so amazing afterwards. read more

Haven't written a review on Yelp in awhile but that's because I dislike Yelp as a platform and their business practices are unethical. However I know businesses unfortunately rely on Yelp. I have gotten many foot massages all over Oakland. I've been to at least 5-7 different places. Kume is the best because it doesn't matter which massage therapist I get they are all good. All the other Chinatown spots it's a coin toss if you get a good one or not but I've received massages from 4-5 different people at Kume and they were all really good. Prices are really good if you become a member and why wouldn't you? The annual cost is reasonable and if you like to get foot massages on the regular might as well join. Got full body scrub done here recently. The interiors of the lobby is done up well (attached pic). Complimentary tree and lemon infused water is available at all times. Service staff is prompt and friendly. I was tiny bit disappointed with the spa as it didn't last long as I had hoped. Overall 10-13 mins in Sauna, followed by body splashed with warm water, few mins of body scrub, milk wash and entire body wiped clean with warm/ wet towel. I neither got an opportunity to relax, nor did I feel like my entire body was thoroughly scrubbed like general Korean spas. Pricing is reasonable. I just wished the scrub lasted longer. read more
