This is my least favorite location in the Richmond/Henrico area. It's by far the messiest and it's VCU, so parking sucks. The customer service here needs major improvement. Every single time I visit, there's a problem. For example, last time I visited, I placed my order via app. I arrived and stood in the pickup line while another customer was at the register finishing up their order. I wasn't acknowledged. Okay... More customers arrive and place their order at the register. I wasn't in a hurry so I patiently waited for them to finish. The associate standing in front of me making drinks said someone would assist me shortly. I then moved to the register and was told by a different associate "I'll be right with you" while she stepped away to help the other employee fulfill the drink orders. A gentleman then walks in and stands in the pickup line, and the associate immediately goes over to assist him. I informed her that I still hadn't been helped yet, and she told me that she has to take care of the pickup orders first. I explained that I do have a pickup order and she responded that I was in the wrong line. I stated that I was in the pickup line for awhile and no one acknowledged me. Seriously, it's always something at this location, so it's not in my best interest to return although this one is closest to my home. I'll be limiting my patronage to the Henrico locations, and it'll just have to be a "if I'm in the area" stop as I won't be going out of my way to visit. But, the fruit teas are indeed delicious. My husband and I love boba tea, so when people told us about Kung Fu tea, we knew we had to try them out. Since we were in the area, we decided to stop in and give them a try. When you first find them, they're a little hole in the wall shop with a few tables on each side of the restaurant. There were a few college student with laptops out working but it was still fairly quiet. There isn't a whole lot of room so people are up against the wall or in chairs while waiting for their order. I was stuck choosing what I wanted so when it came time to order, the staff were very kind to help me choose between the two I was debating on. They have the option for you to tip on your card so you don't have to worry about cash tip. They had some interesting snacks you can grab too to go. They had our drinks up very quickly. My husband got the taro slush with pudding which was thick like a dessert but not overly sweet. It was so delicious! I got the lychee black tee with berry crystal bubbles. It was very sweet but very good! It had a lot of fruit in the bottom and the bubbles gave it a nice pop. I love that you can build your own drinks and if you are new or don't know where to start, they have plenty of places to start. We will definitely be back with the rest of our family. We went the Ramen Spot next door and had to get some Bubble Tea right after. This is located across the street on grace from Edo's Squid. I've been to a Kung Fu Tea in northern Virginia so I was excited to get my favorite Rose Hip Milk Tea. Super yummy if you like sweet and tangy flavors and of course bubble tea with tapioca balls. My only complaint with this location is that some of the tea flavors already have the full amount of sugar added. The beauty of Kung Fu Tea is that you can request less sugar in your drinks which is my go to and less ice. I was a little bummed the Rose Hip Milk Tea was mixed already... but regardless it was still delicious and hit the spot for my bubble tea craving. In addition to that, there are also ice creams available from the Richmond Ice Creamery. Got my daughter cookies and cream which she loved. The store also allowed all of us to have tastings of the ice cream. One of my go-to's in the city...or when I'm getting some Vietnamese Coffee Ice cream at Richmond Ice Creamery. I'm doing some lazy keto and discovered their Passion Fruit Green Tea. It is my must get. I always it with Nata Jelly with 0% sugar and no ice. The last time I came here, I actually ordered three to enjoy it throughout the week since it is a little bit out of my way. Service was pretty quick and the drink was delicious. It has the perfect amount of sweetness to it, why add more sugar to it? I think they have a punch card for it, but it may just be for the RVA Ice Creamery. Updating my review because of bad customer service... I go to this location frequently, like I get a drink every week or so. I got a wrong drink today. I get it, it's busy at night time. I ordered a drink with full sugar and no ice and received a drink with less sugar with ice. I went back in to tell them about the wrong order. I literally saw them take my drink, pour some of it out, put a new lid on it. The cashier then had the audacity to tell me that I "took someone else's drink". My call number was the right number on my cup. I would've been alright if they just added sugar, but they ended up being really rude about it. Other kung fu tea locations will remake your drink if it's wrong, I'm not sure why this location will make up excuses if it's wrong. read more

I've had KFT quite a few times since it has opened in Richmond, and I have to say that it has been my favorite of the local bubble tea options in Richmond. First of all, I like the option to alter the amount of sugar, the type of toppings, or whether you would like your drink hot or cold. It's alright, nothing to write home about. Ever since coming to Richmond, I've been looking at various places to try. I came across this place because it reminded me of one of the many boba shops back home. There's a variety of selections for different types of teas, but I was hoping there was a bigger selection for slushies, which is my go to at these types of establishments. I ordered the Mango Slush with boba. It's a bit on the sweet side and I LOVE sweet stuff. I wish I ordered it with less sugar. Back home, they wouldn't charge extra for boba unless you got anything but the regular boba. If you want boba, it's an additional $1.25. Which isn't cool with me, but I ended up sucking it up because I wanted to try this drink in all its glory and see how it compared to back home. Sadly, it failed my expectations. Price wise, it's kind of expensive. Back in Cali, for the same drink, I would've paid around $5, if not a little cheaper. For my large slush with boba, it was $6.12. The staff seemed friendly and they have a variety of board games available to play if you like. If I come back, I'll probably try one of their teas. read more

Delicious! Ordered the taro slush with 30 percent sugar and was very satisfied with my order! It was Saturday so I decided to get the mini bubbles (only have them Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for some reason). I loved what I got (not too sweet). Cute little place at a convenient spot on campus. The line was pretty long but it moved fast so we weren't waiting forever. During the covid pandemic they are open for takeout but you have to order from Grubhub or download their app. They won't take orders over the phone. Kung fu tea is one of the better boba chains I've been to. I live right down the block so I guess that makes me a regular. I prefer their milk teas to their fruity drinks. My favorites are the strawberry milk slush, winter melon milk green tea, and oreo milk tea (all of which are on the sweeter side). Apparently, all the drinks are vegan as the "milk" is actually some type of powder. Also a lot of their flavors are syrup-based. As for this particular location, sometimes a line can form as a lot of VCU students come here, but usually it's not long before you get your drink. It's not nearly as bad a wait as the location in Annandale. read more

Got 2/3 orders wrong. Ok fine, it happens. But the customer service is awful when you come back and say it's wrong. They make excuses and refuse to change your order! I got a clawingly sweet drink when I ordered less sugar and I ordered ANOTHER drink when they wouldn't change it. So $9 total for ONE correct drink... Nope they got the second drink wrong too and added no sugar instead of the 30%. I threw it out so now I spent $9 for no drinks. I go to other Kung Fu teas all the time so I know what drinks are supposed to taste like. If you made a mistake the first time at least have the courtesy to remake it. read more

FINALLY. A real boba/bubble tea place in Richmond. What separates Kung Fu Tea versus TT Lounge and any other place that makes these types of drinks is that KF Tea uses real tea to make their delicious concoctions. This place replaced the old Mama's Kitchen on Grace St and is fairly small but delivers the same quality product as other KF locations in NOVA: wooden tables/chairs combined with huge flat screen TV menus and colorful wall artwork. I came here with a friend who has never had these type of drinks before but he was willing to check them out. I was actually uncertain of what to get but Mike, the owner, suggested some sort of Mango slush/cream drink that sounded really good. Basically, it was a really creamy ice drink and I got boba as well and it was very tasty! It didn't taste powdery or artificial at all and would get it on my next visit. My friend got some sort of Honey lemonade drink and said he enjoyed it. The owner was really nice and we talked about why he opened this place up and he said he got tired of his old 9-5 job and wanted something different. The prices are very fair as I paid about $8 for my drink and a large Winter melon Milk Tea with grass jelly to go. There is no dedicated parking so you have to pay to park on the street or most of their customers are just walk ins since their business is primarily VCU students. After hearing so many good things about KFT, I'm so glad to finally be able to try it! It's centrally located near VCU's campus, and the location is very bright, cute, and new. I informed the lady at the register that it was my first time ever getting KFT, and she was more than happy to suggest which drinks were good and popular. I also love that they have a Top 10 poster listing their most requested drinks. I opted to get a coconut milk tea with bubbles, and my boyfriend got a mango snow slush. I think I liked his better--I couldn't stop grabbing his drink to take a sip! The popping bubbles were so refreshing in the mango slush too. When I come back, I'll probably get a mango snow slush, but for myself :-) Other interesting options I'd like to try next time are the Oreo milk tea and the Kung Fu milk tea. read more

I've tried KFT in NY, Nova, and now in Richmond. I've visited the Richmond location a few times now. The place is decorated very cute and is in a great location. However, for my taste, the boba texture is inconsistent each time I go. One of my boyfriend's favorites is the mango slush with boba. One thing i like about it was that it tasted like they used fresh mangos, but it was a little too sweet for me (personal preference). I've tried the matcha readbean slush which was okay. We also have tried the pineapple slush, and while it also tasted like fresh pineapples were used, it was very creamy (more like a smoothie). My main complaint would be you can't really customize any of their drinks. I very much prefer slushes over everything, so their menu is pretty limited for me. What I love about Kung Fu Tea is their unique flavors and the opportunity for customization. This is a rare aspect among many bubble tea places. You have a choice to order certain drinks hot or cold, choose how much ice and sugar you want, and their toppings are everything! You cannot go wrong with the nata jelly and boba combo! Their jelly and boba bubbles are so chewy and delicious! None of mine were frozen or all clumped together, I hate that! Also at certain bubble tea places I feel skimped out on the amount of boba I get in my drink but at this location they gave such a generous amount that I didn't have to worry about running out before finishing my drink!
