Just okay! But review based on just one bagel and pandemic operations. Figuring out how to physically navigate/where to wait in line is a bit confusing. They have two doors at opposite sides the store. With clear instructions, it would be so easy to enter through door 1, order, pay, get your order, and exit through door 2 in one smooth direction. However, there is no clear indicator of which is the entrance, and which is the exit, so you have people entering through both doors, and not sure where to stand. Got a salt bagel with cream cheese on the side ($4ish). It was SO salty lol! There are salt crystals baked into the bagel itself, and even more sprinkled on top. I ended up scraping off the salt on top. Other than that, it tasted like any typical bagel. Definitely bigger though! I probably should have gone with a sandwich, so I'll be sure to try out that next time. Alright bagels, but I love Brookline, and love supporting local businesses especially right now, so I plan on returning! read more

I've been here 4-5 times and can definitively say the food is straight-up bad. Probably the worst food I've had outside of an airport. Look, as someone who once lived in New York, Bagels are Bae-gels (sorry for being a typical millenial with that one). Kupels fits the bill as the best bagels in Boston. Honestly, they are the most "New York" of any bagels here. While many disagree that those two things are equal - I think that they are pretty darn great. The deets: I have had their egg, everything, blueberry, wheat... with regular and jalepeno cream cheese. Friends have also gotten the Lox, and scallion. Honestly, the bagel to cream cheese ratio is weighter on the cream cheese side, so you can always ask for less.. but I love cream cheese. Its a kosher place, so won't be open on Saturday, but I go on sundays, and the line moves quickly. Very worth your 3$. You should go. I don't want to be dramatic but so far, Kupel's is the closest thing I've had to true long island/brooklyn bagels. Closed on Saturdays to observe the Sabbath, Kupel's will fill the other 6 days of your week with delicious, authentic Jewish bakery items. Just a note for those of you not aware of the food restrictions for keeping Kosher, you will not find a bacon egg and cheese here, you will not find bacon here, don't cause a scene (I actually witnessed this happen...) My go-to is the Coolidge Corner "breakfast sandwich". Everything is fresh, and the bagels are usually still warm, so I don't even get it toasted anymore. They are quick to get your order ready, so any line moves pretty quickly. Great stop for breakfast in Brookline. read more

Coming from CT/NY bagels it's been a tough search for a good bagel in Boston, but Kupels is hands down the best I've had! Bagels are a great price, very large and are generous with spreads/toppings. I definitely recommend ordering ahead because it's packed on weekends (no surprise). I feel the need to start this review with two simple statements: 1) I love bagels BUT 2) I'm not a bagel connoisseur. I've never lived in New York or eaten bagels from Brooklyn, but I feel confident in saying I know a quality bagel. But I had also heard about the tremendous lines if you ever try to go to Kupel's Bakery on a weekend. So, one Wednesday morning in the middle of the week with nothing to do and a hungry belly, I made my way to Kupel's Bakery. There was not a single customer there but I was OK with that. I ordered an everything bagel toasted with regular cream cheese. The toasting was a little bit more on the burnt side than I would prefer but I ate the bagel anyways. Now, the bagel was average but the cream cheese was excessive. I wish I would've requested just a small slather of cream cheese because I ended up scraping 99% of the cream cheese off and throwing it away. For the price, it's a decent bagel. But would I ever wait in a line on a weekend to get a bagel from here? Most likely not. So, if you are a bagel fanatic or bagel connoisseur, take this review with a grain of salt. But if you're an average person like me who likes a good bagel every now and then, not worth the hype. read more

I placed a takeout order from Kupel's via Yelp, and they had it ready and waiting for me within 10 minutes, which I was very impressed with. I had heard good things about their Raspberry Cream Rugelach and their Hamantaschen, so I ordered a couple of those, and because I'm a cinnamon roll fan, I also got one of their Cinnamon Roll Doughs. When I got home, I did a little tasting of everything, and my favorite item was the Raspberry Cream Rugelach. It's gooey and tasty, but not mind-blowing. I'm sad to report that the Cinnamon Roll Dough was very dry, so that got tossed after one bite directly from the middle. The Hamantaschen were ok. I got one with Strawberry and one with Apricot, and they were about the same. They have a lightly sweet flavor, but they're also a little on the drier side, so they go well with tea or coffee. I'm sure I messed up in not getting a bagel and cream cheese, so I will probably go back for those and pass on the items in the pastry case next time. read more

Best bagel sandwich spot in Brookline and maybe even in Boston. They have creative and yummy sandwiches you can order, or you can make your own. My personal favorite are the ones with lox, where you get a huge helping of salmon with a great ratio of cream cheese and other toppings. With COVID they have it organized so you wait in line outside to place your order inside, and then wait outside and someone calls out order numbers once they're ready. It's definitely a gem to the neighborhood and the place I always suggest when people are in a pinch for a quick brunch meal. read more

They clearly prioritize Uber eats orders over their own website/online orders and especially over in-person orders, with general poor communication with customers. This is the only place I have found in Massachusetts that will make a New Yorker smile and say those are some good bagels. Highlights - whole wheat sesame bagel (not made in most bagel shops, yum) - tofu cream cheeses - true feel of a bagel shop (the line on Sunday mornings is long but hang in there it goes by quickly) - pastries: they have one pastry that is like ruggela but it's not cut up individually (many flavors, all delicious)! - the service is excellent!! This is a good bagel place, if you have the patience to wait in a long line and don't need to eat there. The line is so long that some tables are just not accessible, and it was hard to make sense of which is the end of the queue. They have an extensive menu, with many different flavours of bagels and cream cheese, as well as many different combinations of fillings, mostly named after Boston landmarks. I got egg salad, tomatoes and onions, and it tasted delicious, with the bagels being well toasted and chewy. I have a low bar for bagels though, since I live on the other coast and it's near impossible to find good chewy bagels. We heard great things about Kupel's so probably went with higher expectations than we should have but it was a decent bagel experience by Boston standards. Here are the main highlights: The Good: 1. They have a good variety of bagel types -- we went at 11:30AM on Sunday and despite the long line still had a lot of selections available so kudos for that. 2. The staff is very nice and accommodating. 3. Salmon was good. Nothing special, just good. 4. Cream cheese was excellent. The Bad: 1. The whole wheat everything bagel has rye seeds on it (gf thinks they were caraway seeds but they tasted like rye to me and I hate rye so wish I knew this beforehand since I've never seen them on a bagel before). The salt bagel tasted good though. 2. The bagels have good crunch to them on the outside but unfortunately aren't soft on the inside. Einstein Bros has better bagels honestly but these ones are bigger. The Ugly: 1. Eggs are microwave Dunkin Donuts style -- pass (wish I knew this before going because we went primarily to have a bacon, egg and cheese) 2. Asked for bacon and the lady looked at me like she had no idea what bacon is. I don't understand why a bagel place wouldn't have bacon so massive points off for this. UPDATE 2/16/15: Apparently Kupel's is kosher so that's why there's no bacon. Oh well, heads up to those who didn't know. 4. $8.99 for a bagel with cream cheese and salmon is quite steep. Conclusion: Pass -- If you're willing to travel (drive, bus) check out Katz Bagels in Chelsea instead of this place. Their chocolate flat tire is a certifiable federal Superfund-level disaster area. The pastry twist is so thin, the chocolate so abundant, and the sugarcoating so thick and impenetrable -- both on top and bottom! -- that, unlike their oddly bread-like Danishes, it can't even pretend to be a breakfast food. It's a hubcap-sized half-dessert, half-scud-missile abomination that ranks up there with Patsy's danishes and Carol Anne's chocolate horns as one of the most ridiculous, irresponsible and wonderful pastries in Greater Boston. Racist Against Black People I walked in for some coffee. I was immediately told by two chefs that I must wear a mask in their shop to be serviced, but since today is the first day they'll let me slide. I felt a little targeted but eh whatever. Seconds later a woman walks in, not wearing a mask. She orders her food and waits patiently, no one tell her she needed to wear a mask. The only difference between us is I'm a black male and she was a white woman, white like everyone else working there. Went here today with some friends from Philadelphia. We got a mix of bagels and chocolate cheese rugelach. The bagels were delicious but they go heavy on the cream cheese. The rugelach was amazing. The wait was long--don't expect to pop in here on a Sunday morning between 10-1 and not wait. The servers kept checking back to confirm what people wanted on their bagels. They could probably be more efficient in their service, but it's a leisurely Sunday breakfast so I didn't mind. I really want to try some of their challah soon. read more

Excellent bagels. Plenty if whole wheat options, and many flavored of lite cream cheese. Also basic bagel vegetables available for 25 cents (onion, cucumber, tomatoe). I had a sesame seed bagel and lite jalapeño cream cheese. Loved it. There was a generous amount of cream cheese, but I normally use less. (So maybe that undoes the lite/whole wheat choices. :) )Tasty though. I will get cream cheese on the side next time and maybe split cream cheese with my husband who orders his own bagel. They only sell onion bagels on Fridays and Sundays, their busy days. I came back on Friday and got 6 onion bagels and 8 oz cream cheese to keep at home. Great.
