Came to this place in Little Italy that has ice cream. It has a pretty small but good amount of flavors. KURIMU has a few locations, including this one close to UIC. Has kind of an Asian theme going on. The prices are okay as far as quality. A pretty limited amount of flavors. It's got a few interesting ones. These go beyond the typical chocolate and stuff. Asian themes are as expected. It's about $6 a scoop. Certainly that's kind of a lot. This is high quality though. Last time had a non dairy flavor. The regular flavors include mango and purple yam among the more unusual. Good Asian style ice cream. It's located on Taylor at Racine. The only bad thing is it's limited for vegans.
Me and my husband went to Kurimu Creamery on a whim and ended up having one of the best dessert experiences in a while. Right when we walked in, the staff was SO friendly, like, genuinely warm and kind. It really stood out, especially after visiting a few other spots nearby where the vibe wasn't great. The people at Kurimu made us feel welcome from the second we stepped in. We were staring at the screen trying to figure out what flavors were what, and before we could even ask, they offered us samples. That little gesture made everything so easy and fun. We ended up going for soft serve cones (pancake flavor) and... okay, this might be the best soft serve we've ever had in Chicago. No exaggeration. It was insanely creamy, flavorful, and just hit all the right notes. We haven't tried their scoops yet, but now we definitely want to go back for those too. They usually have a black cone, which looks cool, but they didn't have it that day. We tried the pink one instead and it was amazing!!! Crunchy, pretty, and honestly perfect with the ice cream. The whole shop has such a cute, fresh vibe. It's cozy and clean (which is something super important), and just a great place to hang out for a sweet treat. We left so happy
I can't believe I didn't write a review the first time I visited this ice cream shop. Now that I've made a second trip, I realize it's definitely worth recommending. Located in Little Italy, the shop has easy street parking and a cozy indoor bar-top seating area that fits about a dozen people. The prices are reasonable. Around $6 for one scoop and $8.50 for two, before tax and tip. I originally planned to get my cone to go, but staying to enjoy the cool treat indoors on a warm summer day was perfect, especially with the easy listening music playing in the background. There are at least a dozen flavors, and all of them are unique, often with a twist on something familiar. During my visit, I tried a scoop of hibiscus strawberry and purple yam Oreo on a small waffle cone. I was one of the people who asked to sample a flavor before buying, just to make sure I didn't get a full scoop of something I wasn't crazy about. Being somewhat adventurous, I find it hard to decide which flavor to get because there are so many unique options to choose from. If you're with a group, it's a great spot to sample different flavors collectively without breaking the bank. One thing to keep in mind if you have allergies is that the shop doesn't guarantee allergy-free options. Many flavors have cookies like Oreos or fortune cookies, so it's pretty clear those aren't safe if you're avoiding gluten. However, the labeling isn't very detailed, so if you have serious allergies or sensitivities, it might be best to avoid the shop altogether. I didn't see any clearly gluten-free or dairy free options, so if that's a priority, you might want to look elsewhere. I definitely plan to return and would suggest it's worth a short drive, especially if you're a fan of unique flavors or ice cream in general. There are also a few soft serve options and pints to go.
We reserve Kurimu for special treats and only come a few times a year. It is a burning the pricer side if we take the whole family. My daughter and I came during a week night when it wasn't relatively busy. We each got double scoops with the specialty cones. I had the salted egg yolk and purple yam. My daughter had the blueberry cheesecake and the dulce de leche. We both loved our flavors and only really struggled with not eating it fast enough for it to drop. What was really great about this visit was the addition of the kiosk. Ordering was quick and easier to decide what to get based off of visuals. We will definitely be back for a treat in the future!
Stopped here for some ice cream on a Friday night. It was nice and quiet, staff were friendly and let us try out flavors. They have a lot of unique flavors. I got the Thai tea and the passionfruit cheesecake. It was really tasty. We also got the blueberry lavender and that was really sweet, but good! It's a cute little spot, I do enjoy a good vanilla, so I may not be back often, but will definitely return at some point!
The soft serve ice cream and pints of ice cream to go is excellent here. However, it cost almost 7 bucks for a scoop of ice cream. Prices are very high here. Overall good service and ambiance.
A friend recommended Kurimu and I ordered Dorayaki Ice Cream - Doriyaki folded in a cup filled with hand crafted ice cream: the flavors I had were Coconut Pandan & Coco Delight (Coconut, Strawberry & Chocolate Chips), so Yummy! We also took a pint of the PB&J, Ube Latte & Lychee Pearl. If you like PB&J sandwiches, you then must try or order the PB&J, its the perfect balance of Peanut Butter & Jelly. The Lychee Pearl was gone as soon as we got home. Still have the Ube Latte to try, but Im sure it'll be as good as the other flavors we've already had. Until next time, Enjoy!
Came here for a moment right before I boarded the Blue Line to get to my flight. Got the Royal Purple Lavender and Black Sesame, both of which are my favorite flavors literally anywhere I go. THE SCOOPS ARE VERY GENEROUS! I also upgraded to a Strawbery Shortcake waffle cone with tapioca pearls inside... Wait... BOBA? Inside my cone?? GAME CHANGER! I wish I had not had a huge lunch prior to this because this dessert was a bit of a challenge but luckily one of my gorl friends was able to help! I just got really excited to get to the boba at the bottom with the melted ice cream mixed into it! My only caveat now to this experience is the sadness I'll feel when I enter other ice cream shops because now I have an expection of BOBA as a topping to be placed inside my cone... hahaha (But for real, can we normalize boba as a topping much like we have sprinkles and candy at ice cream shops? please????) Soft serve was not available at the time we went so that just means I'll have to come back!
I am sad to update my review from 3 years ago and drop it from 5 stars to 2. I called ahead last night to check on their soft serve flavors and went enthusiastically since it's warmer outside and perfect ice cream weather. They had tahini and black sesame. They do let you sample, so I tried the tahini which honestly , I didn't care much for so I decided to get black sesame instead and got a sticker shock while paying since it's $8.75 for a cup!!! For comparison, soft serve at McDonald's is $2.50. If the price wasn't bad enough, their machine started acting up after I paid and I was asked to wait while they tried to figure it out. 10-15 min later I was told that they didn't know what was wrong with the black sesame side of the machine and perhaps they had 'overworked' it. I was told all this by an employee who kept chewing/biting a toothpick the whole time. I wasn't offered a refund either so instead my friend got the tahini since we had already paid and I left with no ice cream. Honestly, between the we don't care attitude, and the ridiculous price, I see no reason to go back anymore.
Came passed 9 on a Wednesday. This place still had a small line. Service is slow because there was only one girl at the register and scooping the ice cream. Ice cream flavors were awesome though. I tried the black sesame and loved it. If I come again I would try the bubble tea
Kurimu is one of those spots I keep going back to because there's always something new to try. They rotate their flavors often, and it's a mix of soft serve and ice cream, so every visit feels like a treat in the best way. What I've Tried & Loved: Mango Sticky Rice Ice Cream - So unique and well done! Creamy with just the right hint of coconut and sweetness--totally captures the vibe of the dessert. Pandan Ice Cream - Earthy, floral, and super refreshing. If you love Southeast Asian flavors, this one's a standout. Lychee Soft Serve - Light, delicate, and smooth. One of my all-time faves here. Mango & Lychee (past visits) - Always refreshing and well-balanced--never overly sweet. The staff is friendly, the vibe is fun, and the presentation is always cute. Whether you're grabbing a cone or a cup, Kurimu delivers with creative flavors and consistent quality. Can't wait to see what they come up with next!
Finally got to try kurimu! Kind of sad I missed out on the tea flavor soft serves. But the lime and coconut flavors are equally good and refreshing. Staff are friendly and you can try their flavors. I just went for the classic soft serve in a cup with brown sugar boba. The boba drizzle did get a bit messy. It came with this cute shovel shaped spoon. I do want to come back and try some of their ice creams. It is a bit pricey but there's plenty in one cup to split.

A bit hard to get to unless you live around UIC, but I enjoyed the purple yam (taro flavor)/charcoal horchata swirl Messy Boba ($7) we got. The brown sugar syrup was quite good and I liked the texture of the boba. The taro flavor somewhat overpowered the subtler charcoal horchata one, but I liked both and surprisingly they went pretty well together. Next time I probably would order just the soft serve since it was quite sweet already without the boba/syrup. There were several people in line even though it was really cold outside and we came at a random time in the afternoon, so be prepared to wait! Also if you're wondering what the "kurimu gold/silver" is, it is apparently just normal soft serve with gold or silver leaf on top. Not sure what the "premium" is... Although the colors are most probably artificial, and the prices definitely steep, I did like the flavors of the soft serve and the smooth, round swirl they make is just so darned cute. Really glad to see dessert places like this around Chicago, and would definitely go back to try new flavors! read more
I've been wanting to try Kurimu for a while now, and when I saw they had a White Rabbit flavor for a limited time, I had to stop by! We tried the White Rabbit x Mandarin Orange swirl, and it was like a fragrant, light creamsicle of perfection. The white rabbit tasted exactly like the candy but slightly less sweet, and blended beautifully with the mandarin orange. The texture of the soft serve was smooth and light, but still had a good richness and solid consistency. The location and artwork was also so cute, making for a very fun ambiance. They change their flavors somewhat frequently, so I'll definitely be back to try their other flavors! read more

I've been here several times and it never disappoints! It's usually pretty busy so expect to wait in line to order and to receive your order. My favorite is to get their swirled soft serve--their flavors change every few weeks or so and I usually check their Instagram to keep up to date. The last flavors I had were the watermelon and Ramune (a Japanese soda) soft serve flavors and they were SO GOOD together! You'll notice that soft serve in a cone is a dollar or two cheaper than in a cup. That's because the cup is MASSIVE in comparison, so definitely makes sense that it costs a bit more. If you're eating on your own I would recommend a swirl in a cone. If you want to share and save some money, I think getting it in a cup is the perfect size for two. Overall the prices here are a bit steep but for the novelty and quality I never mind it! I don't know anywhere else I would get these flavors. Also check out the freezer on the right of the entrance when you walk in. They have pints of unique ice cream flavors you can buy and take home. My partner and I love the lychee flavor because it has little bits of actual lychee in it. For the best flavor, when you store the pint in your freezer and are ready to eat it, take it out several minutes early to defrost a bit before you scoop. You want the ice cream to look shiny wet on the surface when you scoop it. That's when you get the maximum flavor!! Otherwise when it's too frozen you don't taste it as much. Enjoy!! read more

What a treat! Wide variety of ice cream and more. I had the purple yam UBE and ordered 3 pints to go: purple yam with Oreo and strawberry shortcake. Delicious!!!! I can't want to go back to try more flavors! The service was fast. The server/cashier was friendly and helpful with recommendations after I told her this was my first visit. The ambiance is chill. Seating options are along the windows. read more
Finally made it to this cute ice cream shop. Loved the ice cream - it's right on Taylor and beer by a lot of upcoming restaurants and food shops! It's a Instagram popular spot but when I went it was busy and since it was a hot day! I was happy to get some ice cream to cool day! read more

From what I understand, this collaboration with Care Bears is only temporary, but I have thus far only associated Kurimu with Care Bears and that makes me LOVE them. A Care Bear collab is EVERYTHING. They have featured a variety of flavors that are tied in with different Care Bear characters. I find their menu to be a bit confusing, and I'm never confident on what I'm ordering, but everything has been delicious so far! read more

Sunday was my first time ever coming here. I've been wanting to try this place for a very long time, but usually the lines are outrageous. The ice cream definitely did not disappoint. I had a pumpkin flavored cone, with Horchata and charcoal flavored ice cream and edible gold. The ice cream was delicious, I highly recommend it and would definitely get it again. I personally think the edible gold is not worth it. It's pretty pricey, and you really can't taste anything. I will definitely be back to try some other flavors! read more
It was 45 minutes to closing, and it was still busy with a couple groups finishing their desserts and a few groups who just walked in to order. It's a really small space, and there were about 7-8 seats in the place, which makes for quick turnaround. I imagine in the summer it'd be a quick place to just grab and go take a stroll around the city. We ordered the brown sugar milk tea and the messy boba with the orange and original swirl. The milk tea was decent. I'd give it a 3/5. It wasn't really that sweet from what I've had before at other places like Tiger Sugar, and it especially had a mellow flavor in conjunction with the messy boba I had. It's a bit pricey for that small of a drink. I didn't want to ask for any samples of the ice creams because it was so close to closing and the cashier seemed real ready to leave work... but despite her RBF, I enjoyed the messy boba! The swirl reminded me of Fred Flintstones popsicles back from way back when, and the chewy boba added some fun texture to the sweet treats. I'd give the messy boba a 5/5. All in all, this is a quick and fun twist on Asian-inspired desserts, and I'd recommend you try it if you're nearby! read more

This is definitely a place if you want instagram pics. Everything here looks so pretty and picturesque. It was also popular that it gets crowded and there was a line. We ended up getting the melon pan with the pandan and ube ice cream as well as the messy boba. The melon pan was warm and toasty and counter balance the ice cream. It was good. The pandan ice cream even had chunks of pandan in them and that was awesome. The messy boba was ok, a little too rich that definitely needs water after. Service was on point and price was standard. Definitely would want to come back to try other things if I'm back in chicago read more

(3.5/5 stars) A new bubble tea place AND Asian flavored ice creams? I'm in! My friends and I visited on a warm summer day, and there's definitely a wait. You can also place your online on their website and pick it up. I ordered the "messy boba" (which is a soft serve of your choice of flavor with black sugar syrup and boba topping) The soft serve flavors change periodically, and I opted for the swirl with earl gray and taro. PROs: ++ if you're like me and you like your boba slightly firm with a nice chew, you will drool over these, they were spot on. I wish there had been more! ++ the taro soft serve was flavorful, but not too sweet ++ on service: staff is friendly, and willing to answer all my questions (and I had a bunch!) and didn't make me feel rushed, even when there was a line 6-7 parties deep out the door CONs: -- the earl gray was incredibly subtle, even if you taste it just with the swirl (with taro), but add the black sugar syrup, and it's totally lost -- my swirl came with a center of hollow emptiness, which makes me sad. if you're going to charge me $7 for a small cup of soft serve, please don't have a center of air. air is free. -- they got one of my friend's order wrong, and offered the fix it...as long as she paid the difference. Really?? -- Their bubble tea comes in a pill-shaped cup which is artsy and cute, although can't hold more than 12oz, so if you're expecting a tea sized like Joy Yee's or KFT, you'll be disappointed. And COVID times means no samples, which I get, but was totally bummed about since they had some really interesting flavors (thai iced tea, purple yam (ube), black sesame to name a few). tip: it can get pretty messy, and attract bees, so either ask for extra napkins, or BYO wet wipes. read more

This review is for both locations. I'll be honest, the glam and care bears gets you excited. Ironically, there are long lines to get into the ice cream shop because it is full of great back drops for photos for instagram. When first looking at the menu, it looks great until you get confused. AKA gold, silver, premium, etc. Also, the soft serve flavors rotates often, and they are usually something unique. Therefore, the flavors you see inside are the flavors only for the cup and cone. For the price you pay, you don't get a sizeable portion and the flavors aren't astonishing despite the uniqueness. This place is cute for the kids and family, but I wouldn't flex this ice cream to friends. 4/10 read more
Great soft serve rotating flavors! It's a little too pricey for me so I only come when there's a flavor I'm really interested in. They also have other regular flavors which are not soft serve & pints for those as well. They stock a good 4 or 5 cone variety as well for an upcharge, see my pics. The decor is nice for an ice cream joint but currently no dine-in available due to Covid. Overall great tasting but again pricey thus the 4 stars, definitely recommended! read more
Cute little space; all things Care Bears. Great place for a cool treat. Very authentic flavors; the mango tea was a hit. The boba balls really bring out the kid in you. The watermelon soft-serve was perfect; a light taste of watermelon and not too sweet. Perfect for the kids. read more

This is the first time I visited Kurimu. The worker was super nice and told my friend and I that the soft serve is something to try since they switch them out every month. The soft serves are definitely a must have. You can choose one flavor or have a swirl of both flavors that are available. So, so good and will return when I'm in the area. read more

(Review based on visit 3/28) Kurimu is what dreams are made of. I crave this place almost daily. Where to start? An ice cream shop with many Asian or just unique in general flavors, what more can you ask for? Even my parents who are very picky about their desserts were amazed! I ordered the Tiramisu and Purple Yam w/ Oreos and Black Sugar Milk Tea. My parents ordered the Pandan, Care Bear Stare (purple yam/ jackfruit/ coconut). The flavors are so well developed! I am unsure if they make their own ice cream but if they do, even more brownie points go to them. Prices and portions were completely fair- you're paying for gourmet ice cream. Maybe it's a good thing I don't live nearby otherwise I'd be both broke and gain more weight. Please do yourself a favor and try Kurimu! You won't be disappointed. They do get pretty packed so I would highly recommend coming a bit earlier or at an off hour. read more

I had seen this place on Instagram a few weeks prior and was DYING to come because of the unique flavors like white rabbit candy and charcoal, so I decided to stop by. It is located in the South Loop near UIC campus, so it was a little out of the way but it was definitely worth the hike. I got the messy boba swirl with charcoal and white rabbit candy, and it came in this super cute little cup sprinkled with boba and brown sugar sauce. The white rabbit flavor was so close to the actual candy, bringing that authentic childhood flavor to life. The brown sugar was a little overpowering but it was still really good, like an actual boba drink. Will definitely come back to try their other menu items soon! read more
The shop was empty when we arrived (though quickly filled by the time we left), so I was disappointed that the staff were not more helpful. The menu is not self-explanatory and the workers did not do well in explaining how things worked. I ended up getting the soft-serve swirl with milk and guava flavors in a cone (note: flavored cones are $1.50 extra). I found that those flavors tasted very artificial and not like milk and guava, as the names suggested. My cone was $6, which is pretty steep. This place is definitely funky and I appreciate the unique flavors, but not worth it for me. read more

OBSESSEDDD with this place. I love how unique the flavors are and how potent they taste. The only thing is you cannot customize your soft serve flavors if you're ordering the swirl. BUT the preset flavors are amazing. 1000% recommend read more
The photo isn't slanted, the ice cream was dispensed on the side. I personally have a bias towards soft serve ice cream, so I enjoyed it. The swirl was half Thai iced tea and half Hokkaido milk. Thai ice tea had some tea flavor, but gave a lingering dry mouth feeling. Hokkaido milk tasted like an elevated vanilla ice cream. This place has unique flavors. It was very pricey for the amount of ice cream you get. You're paying for the looks and unique flavors. read more
Tasted super yummy that's coming from someone who's dairy free. There was a line but it moved fast, maybe they can create online ordering in the future or if someone is aware I'll definitely be better prepared next time. Multiple come options, great flavors, boba tea, and pints to go. read more
Really have enjoyed my experiences here so far. It's a cute little shop that serves up massively delicious ice cream, soft serves and bubble teas. I can't comment on the teas as I haven't tried but their ice creams and soft serves are spot on. Their flavors take me back to my childhood and reflect all the Asian flavors you crave to remind you of home and family. They have 2 rotating flavors of soft serve that changes monthly and a wide selection of ice creams that have true vibrant flavors. Pints are $8.95 which to me are worth it for this quality ice cream. I do wish the prices for the cones and soft serves were a tad more affordable but this is a nice treat yourself spot :) parking can be hard in the area which is a downside. read more

The Dalgona Coffee got this place 4 stars. I got the peach soft serve. It was good, but not sell your house and move closer to eat it every day. The Dalgona coffee was awesome with a deep rich coffee flavor. They only have two flavor of soft serve at a time. One was a "sprite" flavor and the other was peach. Peach was not overly sweet (not a bad thing), smooth, and was creamy. Wishing they had more exotic flavors to choose from. They do have a favorite of hard serve ice cream, but not sampling due to COVID precautions. Staff is friendly, no indoor dining at this time, and masks are required. read more

Awesome dessert spot in Little Italy!! Kurimu is one of my favorite spots for ice cream. Kurimu's soft serve is my favorite and they have a rotating menu of flavors. They usually only have 2 soft serve flavors on hand at a time. When I went, they were offering pineapple and vanilla, neither of which I was feeling. My friend and I decided to get the Super Kurimu, where for $30, you get 12 scoops of random flavors. The Super Kurimu had a big scoop of one flavor and 11 mini scoops of the rest. I thought this was a great option to try out all the different options with my favorites being the lychee pearl, durian, Thai iced tea, and milk bubble tea. While the 12 scoops might look intimating, I feel like it amounted to 3 regular scoops and it is great to share with a friend or two. All of their ice cream choices are super creamy and I love their unique flavors. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area! read more

I live in the area so I've been here several times. Very good quality all around, but insanely expensive. A basic soft serve cone comes in at $7.50, and while the flavors are inventive they only serve 2 flavors a month and with the exception of vanilla/pineapple, they are all very, very bland. For drinks I've only had the Black sugar milk tea boba with caramelized foam, pretty good but ran about $9 Hoping a new ice cream shop pops up in the neighborhood, but until then, this is the only game in town. read more

Been dying to try this place, I mean have you seen their fabulous Instagram page? They have that advertising that makes you drool through the screen. We arrived on a Friday evening and there was a line out the door but it went by quickly! I ordered the soft serve swirl and it was tasty! They switch the flavors all the time of the soft serves. What was the star of the show though was my friends order which was a scoop of lavender rose and the coconut passion. Those were delicious and I'd rather go back to get those and try their other flavors and items such as the Messy Boba which looked amazing. I'll be back for sure! read more
Welp if you're here, on Yelp, reading through reviews, trying to figure out whether you're going to make the trip to treat yourself... THIS IS YOUR SIGN. GO. I'll say that again, GOOOOOOO!!!! This ice cream is delectable. We have yet to try a flavor we don't like. Pictured is the Harajuku strawberry and matcha swirl. Flavors are subtle, in a good way, and not overly sugary or sweet! Ice cream is smooth and creamy and let's be real, it's also just so PRETTY! They usually top it with something fun too for added visuals and flavor. I tend to opt out of dessert but I can never pass up on this. They rotate their soft serve flavors every month or so make sure to check their IG for current offerings. They also have a wide variety of traditional ice cream flavors too that we have yet to try, but look delicious. Pro tip: Get the messy boba. They add black sugar syrup and boba to your soft serve and MMM !! Even in the winter, Kurimu isn't what you want it's what you need. read more

It’s the same hours as what we have on our site.
Do you have black sesame and/or matcha soft serve?
Not at the moment, current soft serve is charcoal coconut and premium vanilla. We’ll be switching flavors often. Please check back or follow us on IG for updates.
Are there any vegan options?
On our ice cream and soft serve there aren’t any vegan options but on our drink menu we use non dairy creamer and we have soy milk option as well.
