Bf and I are regulars of the Plano location (edit: Now renamed Hotpot Fairy, not an official location??) and happened to be in the area to try this one tonight. While there were some minor differences, overall the quality here was the same and you really can't go wrong with it. $15/lb and I NEVER need more than .75 lb to fill me. You choose absolutely everything that goes in it so everything down to the taste and amount is specific to you (you fill a bowl with raw ingredients and it gets boiled into a broth of your choice for you). All of it is fresh and healthy. The Plano location does have way more soup options (I love the mushroom, but this one only had tomato!) but I'd say this location has more topping options. I'm a spice baby, so get the tomato soup here if you're weak to spice like me. A great concept as always! read more

First time trying this spot and am already waiting until I'm in the area again to come back. They had a plethora of options to include in your bowl and everything seemed very fresh and clean. I got the broth medium spicy and it was the perfect amount of lingering spice to elevate the dish without overpowering it. We just walked up to the front where the self serve soup toppings were. You first get a bowl and put in whatever veggies, meat, and various toppings you would like. They have much less options than yonny, I just kept it simple here and basically got a bunch of meat. They also have more limited soup base options here, with an option of original, tom yum, tomato, or spicy dry mix. I decided to get the original spicy broth. After they take the bowl to cook, I checked out the sauce bar. It's pretty limited, and I made my sauce way too vinegary. After getting my soup, I had to add a little salt to it as I thought it was a little bland but it was much better after that. For the price per pound it's honestly such a steal! My friends and I got so much food for just 14-15 bucks, we all got really full off of our malatang and had to take a good chunk of it home, which was great if I do say so myself! The sauce bar had plenty of ingredients/options to make whatever sauce you wish. Two things that I will point out is the spice levels are extremely underwhelming. Me and two of my friends ordered the second to highest spice level and when we got our food the broth tasted mild. For it being the second to highest level of spice we all expected it to be way spicier than it ended up being, which was pretty disappointing. Another more concerning part of this place was that there was a concerning amount of cross contamination. Both seafood and meat weren't properly separated, allowing for easy cross contamination, which prevents people with seafood allergies from eating here. Same goes for the sauce bar, the peanuts and other nuts are easily able to accidentally able mix in with the other sauces. I finally tried Yin Tang and it was really good value for the money. I tried the dry pot while my boyfriend tried the hot pot. (The ingredients are all priced the same, incentivizing us to get more of the meat and seafood; it is all $14.99 a pound.) The employees weigh and cook it for you according to the dry pot or hot pot styles. My boyfriend got the hot pot, which was delicious with a warm broth and a sauce bar to create your own hotpot-like dipping sauce. The dry pot was different from what I expected - I thought it would be more like mala xiang guo (mala dry pot), but it felt like they had boiled the ingredients and sprinkled on sesame sauce (which was similar to what I could make at the sauce bar). So, I would recommend going here for the hot pot, which was really delicious. Especially as it gets cold, I will be coming here more often. read more
