This place is where Kazu was back in the day, very sad it is gone however the new owners have done a great job. My family had both dinners and sushi delivered and everything was insanely good. From the ginger dressing for the salad (best we ever had) right down to the spicy crunchy tuna / salmon rolls. Get a menu, they have reasonable prices and hook up free rolls or 10% off! The only annoying thing about Kushi is that I've lived less than 3 miles from it for years, apparently, and never tried it until today. Instead, I've been trekking down to my favorite spot: Onsen in Oakdale. It's a bit of a hike for me. I didn't have that kind of time today, so Kushi it was. Come to find out Kushi is co-owned with Onsen! Hooray! Kushi did not disappoint. Very similar menus. Same quality, freshness and creativity I love about Onsen, but WAY closer to home. One last note: if you love Kotobuki in Hauppauge (as I also do) but you hate the wait (as I also do) try Kushi instead. I will most definitely be back there soon. Like, maybe tomorrow. read more

I get kushi at least twice a month! I don't even like real sushi, but I absolutely love the clear and miso soup, garden salad with that amazing ginger dressing, seaweed salad, and California rolls. My husband had the Thomas roll 4 piece tuna sushi, i had clear soup kani salad Philliy roll and spicy tuna. The soup had no flavor. The kani has no mayo and dry. There was so much cream cheese in the pihilly roll felt like i just had a cream cheese roll and the spicy tuna was Decent until i got to my last piece and was fishy. My husbands roll was falling apart and the eel was super burnt and the tuna sushi smelt like the bottom of the sea! He spent $54 too!!!! Def not worth this and the price is a rip off! read more

Great sushi joint! Quality sushi and rolls everytime we go. Prices are very reasonable comparable to other sushi resteraunts. They always go over top on plating beautiful dishes. Haven't had bad expierence in four times we have eaten there. Doesn't look from the outside (the shopping center) like this place would be as good as the food. Kushi Sushi is a gem. They are small with just a few tables so during peak dinner times they are gonna be full. You also might be elbow to elbow close to other tables, but the quantness and the food easily make it worth giving this place a try. read more

Good sushi place! You must order the stubborn roll and the crazy salmon roll! The service is out of this world. This is not a restaurant that's elaborate with a bunch of crowds but it's a small friendly setting with just a couple tables. It's not huge but it's also not too small. I ordered a lot and the bill only came out to be 81 including tip. I've been a sushi surfer recently - the moment I tasted real sushi (I was the typical buffet person). I've tasted a lot of sushi. Many places hit very good than miss. I've been to places where they served me something I'd request for my last meal and than I'd eat the next roll and be like eh. This restaurant everything hit the spot- I wouldn't request it for my last meal however I do attest it's quality for all its rolls. Think of it as a graph everything has a high benchmark but there's no peak it's all stable but stable at a good standard. Guys in sushi it's quality over quantity. Words to live by. The quality of the fish is as good as any high end NYC sushi eatery at a fraction of the price. Wife and I have eaten in and done take out on a number of occasions. Staff is very friendly, chef greets us and thanks us every time, whether we stay or take out. Food is incredibly fresh and delicious. My favorites are the volcano and crazy salmon rolls . The avocado is like butta!!! Having said all that, I was EXTREMELY SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED to find a hair in my spicy tuna roll when we last had take out (12/26/14)...didn't tell my wife...idk how I will deal with this the next time she's in the mood for their filet mignon... read more

Like others have mentioned, don't be fooled by it's location in a strip mall, the food and service are really wonderful. The place is very small, but I've always managed to go on days and times when its not super crowded...lucky me! I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times now and each time has been consistently great. The staff is really friendly and accommodating and the chef has always brought a complimentary crazy salmon appetizer to our table himself every time I've been there and genuinely seems to care that you enjoy your food...which you will. The crazy salmon app, made me nervous because I actually didn't really eat raw sushi, but felt it would be impolite not to try it, since the chef brought it to us himself...well, this is the dish that made me start venturing out into raw fish world! It's delicious salmon wrapped around spicy tuna with spicy yuzu cream and ponzu sauce (I think?). I've had a lot of different things here, sushi and cooked items, and have never been disappointed, they also usually have a lot of specials. Everything is very fresh, prepared with care, and presented beautifully. The yummy food and courteous staff keep me coming back! Definitely check it out! read more

This place has slipped a bit since the new mgt. started a while back. They are nice people, so I tried to stay with them, but sadly I have been less than happy over several visits now... The fish is no longer absolutely top shelf. This is unacceptable. The wait staff tries to keep up, but there is no longer a manager to keep things running smoothly when more than a few tables are occupied. Some of the kitchen dishes are still great, but I go to sushi restaurants for the sushi. It's got to be the best. read more

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. This was our first time and we found the quality of the fish to be equal to Kotobuki while the friendly and attentive service was far superior. It was a special night so my daughter and I did not hold back with our order. Kumamoto oysters did not need the extra dipping sauce supplied; they were delicious. Live scallop sashimi arrived atop razor-thin slices of lemon on the top of the scallop shell. Aji sashimi had a delicate chili-vinegar sauce and was wonderful, as was the accompanying crunchy fried fish skeleton. We moved on to sushi -- wild king salmon, baby yellowtail, toro, and sweet shrimp (the latter served with the deep-fried heads). My husband enjoyed his Angel Roll and spicy tuna roll. I happened to mention that it was my birthday and was pleasantly surprised later with a gratis dessert, birthday candle, and "Happy Birthday" sung to me by the staff and the other patrons. All in all an excellent experience! We will be back for sure! read more

Brought a group here on a Saturday day night after seeing positive reviews and I really was impressed. Seafood tasted fresh, service was friendly and prompt. And the rolls.... creative enough that higher priced options like Nisen (I'm a huge fan) was barely missed. I had driven by many times but given the condition of the strip mall skipped it, and I'm sorry I did. The interior while small is cozy enough and has a nice casual atmosphere without feeling like a takeout place- just fine for a casual meal out. The husband and I will definitely be returning as after trying places around the area over the last year or so, this is the best we've encountered that isn't a ridiculous wait(Kotobuki) or a little too expensive to frequent often (Nisen). read more

Excellent food, service (except when my waitress waved me away after I wanted to change my order before she put it in, but otherwise everyone else) was very accommodating and friendly; I went back to back nights and spent a hefty amount. The chefs do a great job with the presentation and sushi. I will say that the uni isnt as fresh as other places, but otherwise everything else was fantastic and very tasty. I ordered tako salad, live scallop, ahi tuna salad, uni, king salmon, yellowtail, salmon roe, tobiko sushi/sashimi and 4 specialty rolls. The 2015 roll was by far my favorite roll! The following day, I ordered the 2015 again and several hand rolls and I was met with the same level of expertise and creativity. My dad is Japanese, and I've eaten Japanese food since I was a kid. We stopped by this place after reading its great Yelp reviews the other night, and we both agree that this was the best sushi we've had in a while. Also, and perhaps more importantly, this was the best Japanese restaurant experience we've had in YEARS. Hands down. The entire staff greeted us when we walked in the door, and we were given those lovely warmed hand towels as we settled in with the menu. As the only two customers late on a weekday evening, we had very pleasant conversations with our waiter, the head chef, and the sushi chef. The chef told us that he orders many of his ingredients from authentic Japanese companies and that he cooks the sushi rice in many small batches throughout the day rather than one large batch that is heated and used for hours on end. The chef also sent out complimentary spicy tuna roll samples! Very tasty. My dad kept saying that much of the meal was very authentic (the ginger salad dressing, the miso eggplant sauce, the sushi rice, the physical proportions of the restaurant, etc.) My most highly recommended dish of the evening: the eggplant appetizer. So good! The best eggplant dish I'd had, hands down. My dad agreed. Give this place a shot for the friendly service, the tasty food (especially the vegetarian sushi), and the generous portions. Kushi has go to be my favorite sushi place to date. I get tons of those flyers in the mail advertising new restaurants and I try and give them all a chance, but after discovering Kushi, I don't need to look anymore. It's small and quaint, only seating maybe 24 people tops, along with is 2 seat sushi bar, and has some of the best food around. It doesn't look like much from outside, but inside it's nicely decorated and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly, always refilling drinks and offering up specials. The sushi is excellent and inventive, very fresh and beautify plated. They offer many options for fully cooked meals, including tempura, teriyaki meals served with soup and salad on their dinner menu. They also offer amazing lunch specials, bento boxes, 3 roll sushi meals and lunch sized portions of their dinner entrees all around 10$-15$. They also have delicious dessert choices also very well priced. Overall a excellent restaurant i'm more than excited to bring my friends and family to. read more
