The bread has gluten but we were offered the gluten free option which we passed on this time. Also offered a substitute local sav blanc which paired well with the pork belly. I had a grand time here! they had 2 large parties and a bunch of smaller tables. for some reason one chef working that night, so there was a very long wait for the food (maybe an hour?). the servers were doing their best given what they were working with. the seafood platter was delightful. oh my goodness the oysters I got were so creamy and such high quality! what! such a nice treat. the garlic butter mussels were insanely tasty. I licked all the garlic off of the shell. inside seating. there's also outdoor seating which is under a tent, a bit humid butyou get used to it. the train runs through maybe every 15 mins and it is crazy loud. it commands the whole room's attention, everyone must look at it, because you just cant talk over that loudness. it was fun to wave to some passsngers. the semifreddo dessert was wonderful! a frozen mouse, chocolate flavor with strawberries on top. read more

Into everyone's life a little fancy restaurant must fall.... After a walk along the coast and an appetite has been acquired, it is a short walk to this small fancy restaurant just off of downtown. Upon entering, there is a small initimate bar, dining area and a patio out back for "al fresco" dining. By San Francisco Bay Area city standards, it is not fancy in the luxurious, posh sense, but here, seafood is the star! First up, Oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Frankly, they could have been prepared any which way - for the oyster fan, they were fresh and delicious! The salmon was good (although a bit overcooked, the waiter didn't ask how it should be cooked). The salmon came perched atop garlic mashed potatoes that were out of this world! The scallops were so fresh and tasty and perfectly paired with polenta and farm fresh asparagus! They also feature Northern California (as in North of the San Francisco Bay Area) wines and beers, something not readily found outside Mendocino County. There was no room for dessert, guaranteeing a trip back to get the full-on meal experience! The environment is convivial. On a late May early evening, there were graduation dinners out back on the patio, an intimate shared dinner with drinks going on in the bar, and ladies who dine in the corner. Another unique aspect of this restaurant is that it is very close (as in feet away) from the Mendocino Skunk train. Diners will experience the train horn, warning signals and small tremors caused by the train chugging by at any time during their meal. There are also people working out on pedal bikes (yes *on* the tracks) to get exercise on their tour of the redwoods in Mendocino! It added to the ambience as an "only in Fort Bragg" experience! Absolutely fantastic dining experience! Came back to celebrate my birthday with a dozen of my family and friends. Chef Christy was so professional, accommodating, flexible and friendly. The rest of the staff was great as well. One family member is vegan and Chef C said they can make vegan food for her. We ordered a bunch of entrees and everything was delicious. We had oysters, salad, steak, cod, salmon and pasta. Every one loved their dishes. We sat outdoors - the covered patio rocks. There's a fireplace which added to the beautiful setting. There was no ambiance at all. The waitress was not super friendly and we were the first people there for an early dinner. After ordering from a very high priced menu $52 for a pork chop, the waitress brought our bread. There was oil and balsamic vinegar on the table but no butter, so we had to ask for butter. My dinner was pretty good but my sister's was not. The Halibut was under cooked. The vegetables were under the fish and they were disgusting. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience here was highly disappointing. This is not a Michelin-starred establishment, yet the wait times and lack of attention made for a very frustrating meal. The Wait: We sat for over 20 minutes before receiving water or placing our order. It took at least another 30 minutes for our very first dish to arrive. The Food: The steamer clams were overly salty and full of sand. One of the oysters was also shockingly tiny. When we pointed this out, the waitress claimed extra oysters had been added to the shells, but we did not see any evidence of that. The Service: Basic service was missing. We never received water refills, and our empty shell plates were never cleared, leaving a massive pile of clutter on the table. The Bill & Gratuity: A 20% gratuity was automatically added because we were a party of 6 (5 adults and a baby). After we expressed our dissatisfaction, the waitress did remove the automatic charge and said sorry that we didn't like the food. However, her apology felt insincere and making it clear she was mostly upset about losing part of her tip. We still left a 12% tip out of courtesy, but given the combination of poorly prepared food and unattentive service, we will not be returning. read more

My husband and I went here yesterday for dinner and it was a very good experience. The atmosphere was romantic and the food was delicious. My husband got a brisket special and I had the halibut, then we shared the pot be crème for dessert. While the restaurant does not boast views of the ocean like some other places nearby, we did get to hear the skunk train go by every now and then, which was fun. The service was decent. Honestly I think the most attentive person was someone who I think might be the chef? Not 100% sure, but she brought us our food and was very friendly. Love this restaurant in Fort Bragg for more elevated dining. It is easy to find, good parking and the food is.....well it's amazing. The service is top notch and they are very knowledgeable about the local wines for pairing. We were seated outside in the covered patio area with heaters. It was rainy and windy but we were shielded well and cozy by the fire. We have been here before and had the black cod and scallops but this trip we opted to get the seafood closer, crab and scallop dish. It did seem like they had a decent amount of people. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. Outdoor dining had heater lamps as well as being fully covered. Side note: I saw they offer picnic baskets! Seems like such a good idea to pick up when headed to the beach or Skunk train. Appetizers we ordered: Oyster Shooters and Oysters on the Half Shell (1/2 dozen). Both of these were good, but personally i enjoyed the oysters on the half shell better. Fried Monterey Squid: The calamari was so delicious. Definitely recommend trying. The ginger lime aioli complimented the dish so well. Entrees we ordered: I ordered the Pan Seared Scallops and my boyfriend ordered the Chili Rock Cod. We celebrated a 60th birthday at this lovely restaurant and enjoyed the experience so much! The staff are kind and friendly. The space was comfortable and welcoming. We had the ahi tuna, pasta with rock cod, seafood chowder, caprese salad, and crème brûlée. Everything was delicious! We were pleasantly surprised that a small town like Ft Bragg would have such a sophisticated restaurant. Had a wonderful bday dinner here tonight. I'm fussy when it comes to seafood because I'm spoiled living in SF. Our server, Amanda, was fantastic, but they also take a team approach and everyone was attentive and listened. Raw oysters are wasted on me, so we delighted in the chipotle bourbon butter grilled oysters, instead. That was my fave dish of the night. The oysters were giant, tender, and the smokiness of the chipotle really set off the sweetness of the meat. We could have gorged on a dozen or two of those and a beer (scrimshaw on draft!) and been satisfied. We also enjoyed the fried squid (their version of calamari), which was also very fresh and tender. The simple gem salad was crisp romaine with a really tasty dressing. I ordered some steamed clams and was really impressed. The clams were incredibly clean they were dressed with fresh garlic, onion, tomato and herbs along with a creamy broth. My guy had the seared ahi, which was also cooked perfectly with some black and white sesame included in the sear. The accompanying carrot slaw was really tasty. Dress is casual, which is refreshing. Jeans are fine. Don't let the humble (but clean and comfortable) interior fool you,; the quality of this seawould hold its own against some of the highest end places. I don't write reviews often because I'm lazy and would rather stay in the moment. I just had to throw these folks some love, though. My favorite dish was the oysters, especially one of the sauces they came with -- super tasty. I also had some pasta, but it was unfortunately flavorless. The thick noodles were memorable, but the sauce and mussels didn't add any real flavor to the dish. The large bone-in steak looked impressive, but once I tasted it, I found it dry and lacking flavor. It really needed some sort of sauce or seasoning to bring it to life. If you believe that a big chunk of meat on its own is worth the price, I'd argue otherwise -- without seasoning or sauce, this just isn't it. If you're not from a major culinary hub, this spot might feel special. But for those who are, the flavors really fall short. I did notice many positive reviews, which I assume are mostly from locals. On a positive note, I saw the head chef personally take an order for a guest, cook their meal, and even comp the bill -- that kind of service is impressive and deserves praise. Wow! We dropped in here by pure chance while passing through Fort Bragg. We were a little reluctant when we walked in, after seeing the menu and a nearly empty dining room, but decided to give it a shot anyway. We were seated on the back patio, which was lively, and provided the opportunity to enjoy the sunset and views. We were a group of four (a chef and a sommelier in the mix), so decided to do a tasting menu - starting with a seafood platter, followed by an order of clams, a salad, and the (incredible!) rib steak! Every plate surpassed our hopes, but the show stopper was the Rib Eye. Our eyes popped out of our head when it arrived! It was huge and beautiful! Laid on a tasty bed of potatoes, corn, and mixed veggies. It sounds common, but I assure you, the preparation was spot-on! Everything was flavorful and delicious - and everyone was delighted! We loved the KW Saltwater Grill so much when we first visited last year that we immediately made reservations here the moment we began planning our return trip to Fort Bragg. Although our first experience here was exceptional, Kristi and her staff managed hit it out of the park once again. Our meals were amongst the very best seafood dinners we've ever had. Nancy started with a FRESH Dungeness crab cocktail while I opted for the best oyster platter y ever had. And trust me as I've enjoyed fresh oysters on the half shell many, many times in many, many places. Kristi personally greeted us asking what we were going to have for dinner which was her FRESHLY caught Halibut and the days special Dungeness crab cioppino. And since we're both red wine fans, she recommended a beautiful bottle of Lula Pinot Noir from nearby Anderson Valley which was spectacular. Both times we visited everyone went out of their way to ensure that our dining experience was just perfect. The seafood here is always fresh and delicious with generous portions cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. We were really excited to try KW, when we walked in the place was pretty empty except for the outside area. The main seating area is very gray and not very inviting. We figured outside would be better but once we got out there there's a landscaping plastic tarp blocking any breeze, turning the seating area into a greenhouse. It's very unpleasant, but given everything else with decent reviews was closed we decided to try our luck. Our server was nice enough and made good recommendations, however their menu was very spartan, with most things packaged as dishes rather than being able to be ordered as sides and such. If you don't want Yukon mashed potatoes with your food you're pretty much out of luck. There were a couple of local beers on the menu that were good, I had a local Pilsner that was pretty good! For my main course I had the nightly pasta special that was linguini with Parmesan and browned butter wine sauce, clams and pork belly. It was pretty solid, probably 8/10. Not exactly what I wanted but there wasn't any white sauce pasta dish on the menu and I wasn't interested in a red. We had some clam appetizers which were fine but five dollars a bite basically, which brings me to my next point the prices are pretty high. You're not getting out of here for less than 50-60 dollars a person, which again is fine but for the overall experience I'd probably tend to prefer Noyo Harbor for the same price. We had a fantastic meal of oysters on the half shell; ahi tuna tartare; salad with local baby greens, pickled beets and watermelon rind & housemade ricotta; the black cod with sweet potato purée; northern halibut with fingering potatoes and a brown butter Meyer lemon sauce; and we topped it off with a bottle of Anderson Valley Pennyroyal Farms "Pino Trio." Our waiter was attentive, and we were very comfortable on the heated, enclosed patio.
