These days, service places like this are struggling to tread water. Since the work scenario changed at the turn of the century to being business casual, places like this that service the Financial District workforce have seen a dramatic drop in business. Where guys would bring their suits and collared shirts and gals had skirts, shirts, pants, and jackets that needed to be dry cleaned or washed, those days are gone. And with the change in the last fifteen months, who really does work in the Financial District anymore. Since this store is near where I have work stops on a regular basis, I will bring collared shirts and my dry clean needs here on occasion. I believe they used to be on Kearny Street, but rising rents likely moved them here. I recently had a polo shirt that I put in a bad location and it fell onto a sticky situation... literally. While in the garage, a sticky mouse trap was the culprit of a stain to the back of this shirt. Not wanting to toss the shirt, I sought their help in removing and cleaning the stain. I went on a Thursday and spoke to a young lady who looked at my stain and told me she couldn't help me. I am going to my other go-to spot in the Richmond District that is pricier but probably more knowledgeable in handling this difficult stain. Fingers crossed as I'd like to wear this shirt during the baseball playoffs to root our home team on. Still, I will continue to support neighborhood businesses like this though they may not be able to solve all my cleaning needs. Oh, by the way, Go Giants! read more

Been going there for years and the price is reasonable and the service has always been average which is not a bad thing. I've recently visited the shop couple of times for some clothes alterations both times they did an okay job. I believe the customer service needs an improvement because each time I return to pick up my clothes, the worker would tell me it's not ready yet or come back another time when it was agreed to return on a date they said. They seemingly don't value customers time and effort which is disappointing. I'm only speaking of my personal experienced. read more

I work nearby and given the many reviews I thought I would try this place for dry cleaning. I brought in 3 blazers. Price per jacket was 6.50. One jacket was fine, the other two were over pressed, and one jacket's lapel is completely messed up - see the photos. This was right after I got them home and took them out of the package. Why does nobody yelp the people who do their laundry? I have yet to use their dry cleaning services, but I have given in to the 'Wash and Fold' now that I am living in a place without machines. I have to say, that even if there were a coin-op washer and dryer in my building, I would probably still go to KY (so tempted to make a lubricant joke, but I will try to refrain) because they are fast, thorough, and they fold much better than I do. It only costs $.75 per pound of laundry, which must be a good price because they post it on a big sign in the window. They are willing to do same day service for a little extra (occasionally for free when I am really nice to the gal behind the counter), and I am always met with a smile and quick service. UPDATE and UPGRADE (3/1/07): I have gotten such consistently great service from the folks at KY, that I can not in good conscience limit them to four stars. After just a few loads of laundry, I get immediate recognition. The woman at the counter runs back as soon as she sees me through the window, and by the by the time I stumble up to the counter and realize that I don't have the yellow slip, she has already hoisted my bundles onto the counter and told me how much I owe. It's remarkable. Everything comes back soft, clean and folded so pristinely that they must keep a team of origami masters in the back. They even do a great job of fitting my neatly wrapped and folded laundry back into the stupid stuff sacks that I deliver to them crammed full of clothes. Some day, when I am old and live in the East Bay (it's a good place to die), I will still trek back across the bridge to get my laundry done at KY. read more

'Effing brilliant solution to the crap-ass laundromat being closed. I don't know why I NEVER listened to Matthew S. and used KY until today... today - approximately two weeks before I move out of this apartment... sigh. The one time I should have listened. KY was open at 7:30-ish when I took my 10 lbs of dirty clothes to them in the hopes that they would be able to wash n' fold them today... the lovely lady running the joint was friendly and said "No problem!" I showed back up at 5:45-ish and my clothes were neatly folded and bundled in some lovely blue paper... SWEET! Not long ago, the owner of KY Cleaners was someone different and at that time both the service and quality of the cleaning was first rate....So much so that it was easily the best place to take your cleaning in town...It was always a hard task to manage as it's not well situated to drive up to as it's right in the middle of the financial district and parking is, well, nonexistent....But, it was worth the hassle to get consistently good cleaning. Now, under new ownership, things have taken a decidedly worse turn....This place has gone from reliable to unreliable and frankly dishonest. To add insult to injury, my cleaning was returned with a brand new shirt with a gaping burn hole of about 3 inches in the shirt...A hole clearly machine made and the owner of KY incredulously looked at me to inform me that the hole was there from the beginning...Highway robbery and not even the decency to be honest about their work or failure to admit workmanship errors...And, yeah, she still charged me for the shirt's drycleaning anyway. You can bet, I'll never be back here and my advice for anyone else is to stay away, far away. read more

Very nice woman working there. Dropped off clothes in the morning and she had them ready by the afternoon. Used the wash and fold service.

Cheap! And not in a good way. Brought my coat here that has never been cleaned before for dry cleaning. First of all- the lady said she was gonna charge me $9.50. I hand her my credit card and she asks if I have cash. I say I want to pay with credit card. So she proceeds to charge me $9.75 thinking I wouldn't notice. Just dishonest from out the gate. So I take my coat and halfway down the street notice a bunch of the stitching is loose with strings hanging off. The fabric looked like it was worn. White bleach stains in part, and what looks like red makeup stains in another part. Basically the coat aged about two years in one dry cleaning. I took it back and she told me the coat is old and it was like that before. It was a pretty new and beautiful coat until they got a hold of it. Then to top it off when I asked for a refund due to the damage, she refused. Dishonest and unprofessional. My advise - stay away. read more

I love KY Cleaners! Late Friday I got a temp assignment. They wanted me to look very sharp on Tuesday morning. I needed a blazer dry cleaned and ready to pick up on Monday. I live in Oakland but after calling a handful of places in Oakland, none of them could promise to have it done by Monday afternoon. So I started calling shops in downtown San Francisco. The nice lady at KY Cleaners told me if I got in before 2 on Saturday afternoon, it would be done by 4:30 on Monday. She saw a mayonnaise stain on the sleeve (don't ask) and said she couldn't promise to get it out, but she did! This little shop is just a few feet up from Kearny on Sacramento. It's right next to the bus stop. Even though I live in Oakland, I will make it a point to bring my jackets to them. She also said if I got the leather elbow patches, she would sew them onto a different jacket for me. read more

Haven't found anything better in Chinatown/FiDi/Nob Hill. And have no need to :) The wash & fold experience here is stellar. It's well priced and if you drop it off in the morning, you can request to get it the same day. They operate their own plant in the facility - most other places ship it off to a bigger plant. So your clothes are done together rather than mixed up with anyone else's. Because of that, they do have a $12 minimum, which for a bachelor, is probably two weeks of laundry. Always cheery service (though they didn't know what KY actually stood for). They even gave my roommate a laundry bag! One of the best values I've found in the city. read more

I like them. They do a decent job and pretty cheap. I brought in my suit once and I went to pick it up the next day. However, she saw some white marks so she asked me to pick it up they next day so she can try to remove the marks. On another visit, I brought in my wool peacoat. It was only $5!! However, when she returned it, it smelled like cigarettes.. so I had her re-clean it. It came back ok... Her neighbors smoke. I can smell it. Maybe its just me. Both my coworkers love KY cleaners and the lady that runs the place. She is indeed nice. But I don't know why it's such a miss for me... and such a hit for them. I've been using KY Cleaners for a couple of years. The prices are reasonable-no complaints there. Service is pretty good but here's a tip- don't let your finished cleaning sit there too long. There's a Chinese social club downstairs with a lot of cigarette smoking. I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and when I picked up my 25 dress shirts they smelled like stale cigarette smoke. :-/ read more

I really wanted this to be my go-to dry cleaner and wash and fold joint - I live a block away. Also, the lady who works there (the owner?) is super sweet, and will go out of her way to turn your clothes around quickly. But I'll be walking an extra block after my last wash and fold experience. Basically, half of my clothes smell like rotten eggs. Or what can only be described as a foul odor. It's a disgusting smell and I'm about to throw away a bunch of random tee shirts that smell bad because of it. This issue was isolated to my white under shirts - which I wear most often. Half of my clothes smell just fine. But half are pretty much ruined. They seem to do fine with laundry/dry cleaning. But my wash and fold is not getting done here anymore. read more

Cheap, convenient location along the 1-California bus line, friendly owners. Sweaters and pants are $3.25 each. I'm not really sure how much other items cost (like collared shirts), but every time I give them 5-7 items, the price always comes out to be less than $20. My clothes always come out freshly pressed and cleaned. Minus one star for the "smoky" smell left on my pants one time as another yelper mentioned. I think the key to avoiding that is to pick up your clothes in a timely manner! I am horrible at this....I tell the nice lady I'll be in two days later, but in reality I go in a week and two days later. read more

I wanted to like this place because of it's price, convenience and friendliness, BUT two of the shirts I brought in for dry-cleaning were ruined in the process. One of them had an applique that got damaged, and another they lost a button and stains not removed. Now I can't wear either shirt again. I asked for my money back (for the cleaning, not even to compensate for the ruined shirts-which were expensive and silk) but she declined saying that "there are no guarantees". read more
