I want to give this place a much better rating, but I just cannot. We went as a party of 10 for Father's Day lunch. First off, the good stuff...all of the servers/hosts/etc. were all very professional and nice. I have no complaints at all in that regard. The not so good: The booth we were sitting in smelled. It smelled bad. It was like sitting next to someone that hadn't showered in weeks. It's probably because of the cloth material covering it. This really needs to be steam cleaned or washed. Food: I ordered the bronzini and asked for it filleted. On the first bite, I cut my lip on a huge bone. In all, I found around 10 bones in it. Not very enjoyable. The muscles were pretty good. The greek sausage was dry, and not great. Spinach pie was very good. The saganaki was good also. Lamb chops were good but over cooked. They were more of a medium well to well done, and not medium as requested. For the quality of food, I'd say the prices were a little high. Each item on the menu was $2 extra because it was Father's Day. I think that's a little excessive for lunch but I guess it's common. Also, my dad went out to get his keys from the valet because he left his glasses in there...while we all know this is a no-no...the valet guy ripped into my dad. Left a really bad impression on us all. A simple "excuse me sir, can I help you?" would have gotten the same point across. Asked the waiter/manager for a suggestion on wine, got exactly what I wanted for the whole table. Ended up ordering 2 bottles of a German Riesling. Took both my parents out for their birthday here on a Thursday night, didn't realize it was a trendy bar scene going on. Very good-looking crowd overall. Food was great, with no complaints. Everyone was satisfied. Ambience was still great even with the loud music. Don't really know if its like this every day of the week, but seemed like a lot of people were there for drinks. We we're sat close to the kitchen doors and I was curiously peering in to see if I could read the styrofoam box labels as to who the fish purveyor for kyma is, being the nosey posey I am. I guess that triggered a cause for concern as the kitchen staff thought I was perhaps searching for our waiter or busboy. From there emerges the chef to make sure everything is cool, if our lunch experience was going well. And all is very cool we say, as cool as the whole fish on ice in the dining room. A good sign when the people preparing the food are concerned about what the patrons are feeling at the time. The food is well prepared, easy on the palette, refreshing. The taramasalata served, a Greek purée of fish roe which I have had trouble stomaching at other places was easy going, big on its expected "fishy" flavor without your mouth asking for recess in between bites. We came on a day that for most restaurants fish is nearing it's "shelf life" end. Regardless I ordered salmon rare; of impeccable quality. Not in the mood for fish? The lamb shank is done well with a hearty orzo accompaniment, the meat not the least dry. The grilled calamari isn't slaughtered on the grill and the meatballs are done 100x better than most italian joints on Long Island can imagine. read more

came here for dinner with my boyfriend with such high expectations given all the fabulous reviews only to be HIGHLY disappointed! we decided to have drinks at the bar while waiting for a table. i decided to try the peartini off of their drink menu - not so great, but drank it anyway and then switched to a cosmo.. one of the worst cosmos i've ever had - how do you mess up a cosmo!? once we were seated it was like we were completely forgotten about. it was an ordeal just to get our water glasses filled. we ordered the zucchini chips and fried octopus - probably the only thing this place got right. as the service continued to be horribly inattentive we got the check and left without having any entrees. tables are too close together - it felt like we were dining with the table of girls next to us. the service needs major improvement. i don't think i will be coming back.. this place was full of obnoxious 50+ year old men and women who still think they're in their 20s. I would have given this restaurant 3 stars but I believe 'stars' ought to reflect many different elements of the experience. So, here's the breakdown. It's mostly better than average Mediterranean fare. There's the positive. Here's the negative--It's been a long time since I've dined in such an absolutely opportunistic establishment. Appetizer: octopus, $24. You MUST BE KIDDING!!! $29 pasta dishes...puhleeze, and you expect to be taken seriously? This joint is simply the big squeeze, charging north of 25-A prices. Was very excited to try this place out from the excellent reviews and since we went to their sister restaurant (BB Grill) just a few weeks before. We made ressies for our party of 10 (including 4 kids) a few weeks ago and they were happy to accommodate. The location is in a quaint town in Roslyn...easily skipped if not for the decent sized parking lot they have. Valet parking was free which is nice. Dress code is mixed...we saw some casually dressed folk and some dressed up pretty nicely in blazers and dresses. The decor is very clean and white...very reminiscent of my honeymoon in Greece...totally brought me back to Santorini! :) Our server (didn't catch his name) was incredibly friendly and had such a warm smile. I think he sensed that we are the type to always over order, so he did a great job in telling us the portion sizes. We started with the grilled octopus (yum and just as good as people say!), fried calamari (also bombz!), greek salad (refreshing and fresh!) kyma chips (the kids LOVED this! the tzatziki sauce was the perfect accompaniment) and two dozen oysters (omg, OYGASM!!!! so delish and fresh!!!) For entrees, we ordered the black sea bass for two non-filleted (this was just grilled so ended up being very dry and meat tough and not a hit with my table. My dad is the type to show a whole fish who's boss and even he wasn't very crazy about it). Seafood linguine was missing about half the mussels i see in other reviewer's pics and very salty. The alaskan king crab legs were a little sad looking and tasted like they came right out of the water (SALTY instead of the sweet succulent taste we were all expecting). We also ordered the lobster linguine which was tasty albeit a bit salty and the soft shell crabs over sauteed spinach which was probably the best out of all the entrees. It got extremely crowded at night and was very noisy in the restaurant. Might be back, but would be more mindful of the entrees we order! read more

The place is beautiful... All white and it feels like you are walking into a Greek Paradise. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. You can really tell that everyone that works there is committed to making Kyma a success. The food was very good. The fresh fish selection prepared in the simplest way was delicious. After the LIRR ride, I finally made it ok. I made hubby nervous waiting for me at Port Washington station. Since he was already out on Long Island, no point to come and get me and drive back to the Island. We ordered zucchini chips that looked like layered volcano, octopus, scallop, and salad. All of them for starters. I enjoyed everything. We did good for a start. I really enjoyed the octopus! It's by the Greek goddess! Then for my entree I ordered the whole snapper (butterfly cut). I thought it was all right but didn't really hit me well. It's definitely a fresh fish but the way it was prepared was nothing special, was good. I tried linguini seafood that hubby ordered and that was good too. Then Mrs Yamaguchi gave me a piece of tiger shrimp. Now we're talking. This is what I would recommend to everyone. Definitely order this! This is the best. Tiger shrimp saved me! Go Tiger! As the night closes in, people crave for sweetness. I give up, I can't win. I said I'm not a dessert person but I lied, I tried both of the desserts. A piece of each. How can I not? A Greek cheesecake and Greek yogurt! Anything Greek in the food category means you must have, because they talk about Mediterranean diet being a healthy diet. I swear I had very little. My wife and I have dined here a few times and always enjoy the food. There is prompt valet parking so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. Lots of good things to choose from on the menu, as typical for a Greek restaurant lots of seafood options. Last time we went my wife had the swordfish and I had the youvetsi. They do a great job on the youvetsi, lots of great flavors coming together. The only negative I'd say is the DJ / noise. Not sure if it's every night, but they have a DJ playing club style music which I think is unnecessary, especially before 9 PM. read more

Outstanding food. Very nice decor. I ate at the bar and was served by Theoni, who was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. I started with a well made cocktail, their spin on the Jasmine (they substitute Aperol for the Cointreau and Campari). I made my dinner up from the appetizer menu. I had grilled sardines, Rhodes style stuffed calamari, and the Kyma chips (a must have when you visit). Each was flavorful and well prepared and plenty to make up dinner. On a cold winter night it was easy to imagine that I I was on an island in the Aegean having lunch at the beach! I had yogurt for dessert. It was heavenly. Rich creamy yogurt with honey, nuts and cherries. Just right in keeping with the lightness of the flavors of my meal. I will be back. read more

Gorgeous place, great service and wonderful food. Posh feel, with Greek Island ambience. Wonderful selection of delectable dishes,. Our apps were crab cake and grilled octopus (perfection, and a large order- next time could be my entree). Entrees were whole branzino and wild bass; both perfectly cooked. Sides were roasted potatoes seasoned with olive oil and lemon and the gigante lima beans in tomato sauce from the app selection. Dessert was a special deep dish pie of shredded filo, lemon custard, whipped cream and tons of pistachios on top. Yummy. New busboys made service a bit rough, but waiter hustled to cover any issues. Kyma = Delicious! This place is for serious seafood/authentic eaters. Truly a place for a foodie. Many of the mediterranean style whole fish is prepared delicately yet deliciously. The appetizers are incredible and all worth trying. Some of my favorites was The Octopus, The Zucchini & Eggplant Chips that have this delicious fried cheese as a garnish, excellent spanakopita and many, many wines to be paired with one very excellent, delicious, and satisfying meal. =) This is a very refreshing place to take over the old "Trotta" building in Roslyn and makes taking the trip there worth it if you not from around Roslyn. Its beautiful, spacious, white, and has a strong interior of what makes you feel or want to go to the greek islands. Kyma creates an ambient ambiance that you feel as soon as you walk into that restaurant. The management is super friendly and the chef is clearly talented in extraordinary ways. This is the place to eat for foodies who know food. I promise you its very hard to find anything wrong with the food mainly because it is very satisfying. It is really much appreciated that Kyma is there and I no longer have to go to Astoria to get that great "Real" Greek Food. I highly recommend this place!!! Anyway, we got a table in the middle of the diningroom and ordered saganaki which was very very good, sardines ( taste like mud), Branzino (was ordinary, i was told I could get whole fish and got filet, upseting), Moussaka was very sweet, not suppose to be sweet, thought I was having desserts. Quite similar to a Greek restaurant on Northern Boulevard in Roslyn with regards to cuisine (fresh seafood served Greek style). Very upscale setting; nicely done. When you go for dinner, you get a bonus show with it, though. The crowd is the 40-60 year old crowd of the North Shore looking to be seen in the latest trend fashion -- what can I say more than this? The appetizers are above average - especially their zucchini chips (thinly sliced, pan fried and layered in towered fashion). and octopus. Main dishes, mostly seafood, is definitely fresh but other places in the North Shore that serve this. If looking for good seafood in the North Shore, would probably return to the Greek establishment in Roslyn as Kyma has a very loud crowd (both figuratively and literally). read more

Beautiful decor, although the floors can get slippery depending on the type of shoes you're wearing. A woman at a nearby table even slipped off her chair and the manager and nearby waiters ran to check on her. She seemed alright but stunned. I love Mediterranean flavors because everything is prepared to be light and flavorful and Kyma is no exception. Known for their seafood preparation, you can't go wrong with almost anything you choose from their menu. Kyma starts you off with complimentary warm bread and pita served with hummus. For appetizers, we ordered the grilled octopus, which was a little on the salty side for my dad unfortunately, since he's watching his sodium intake. We also had the Kyma chips, which I loved! Their yogurt sauce is divine! For entrees, I had the giant prawns, while BF had the veal. My parents each got the Swordfish and Plaki, both delicious choices. My brother had the lamb chops and my sister in law, the pink snapper whole fish special (deboned and fileted). Overall it was a lovely dining experience and I was surprised to see how busy it was at dinnertime on a Monday night. I really enjoyed my experience here. I came with my grandma who came with her walker and they were very accommodating. I ordered the lobster and I will tell you it was one of my best experiences eating lobster. The other time I ate a whole lobster was after catching it right out of the ocean. There's nothing fresher, but the lobster at this restaurant was pretty fresh. It came with lemon and butter on the side and that was more than enough. We tried to contact management repeatedly about the issue and they never responded--that's not hospitality. In fact, that clearly says that I don't care about you as a customer or a person. Tried Kyma for the first time last night. The place is located in a hard to find location in the village of Roslyn, a real quaint town during the day. Pulled into the lot and had free valet which was nice. As I entered the restaurant, was greeted by two beautiful hostesses who were friendly and took my coat. You instantly get the white glove service feel when you enter. After being seated the waitress who wasn't as friendly as the prior staff interactions took our orders and offered the wine list. Here is where the stars drop ( way too pricy). $80-130 on average for a bottle of wine you see in liquor stores for $15-20. The apps and food were good, but nothing spectacular for the price. Shrimp appetizer was our favorite along with the eggplant. Both big hits. The entrees, lambchops and salmon were lacking the proper seasoning or flavor. read more

Amazing!! Great for vegetatian. There is only one vegetarian entree which is the vegetable pasta. That is all they need. The vegetable pasta is amazing. The appetizer is amazing. The service is great. They were able to squeeze me indoors because I had two children. Came here with my 2 months old daughter and 2 years old son. They loved it as well. Loved everything we ordered: Kyma chips, calamari was crispy, octopus salad was perfectly grilled, tomato salad had the juiciest tomatoes and crunchiest peppers, the jumbo shrimp was perfectly cooked and tender. For entrees we had sea bass, veggie pasta and a shrimp platter that came with rice which was my favorite. And oh yea, the fresh baked pita is to die for!!!
