My dad lived in Florham Park 10 years ago and we still come here. We live 1 hour and 12 minutes away now. We drive all the way here for the Pacific Roll which isn't even on the menu anymore but they still make it. It is honestly the best sushi I have ever had in my life. My boss and I came here for lunch one day. There is plenty of parking since it is in a shopping plaza. The staff was very nice and service was quick. I had the lunch special bento box with shrimp. It was served with salad, California roll, shumai, and miso soup. It tasted flavorful, but I wish it came with steamed rice. The sauce with the shrimp was very good. We ended up a big group (of 18) for a Saturday lunch. It was pretty empty when we arrived, so it was nice to have the spot mostly to ourselves. We had two tables/chefs, and almost everyone ordered hibachi. It took a while to get drinks (Even just tap waters) - we didn't bring any alcohol but it seems to be BYOB? We were half adults and half kids, and the staff was very kind and understanding when our kids were a bit fidgety and wanted to check out the pond with the fish, or play with the gumball machine up front. The food itself was tasty - perhaps a bit oversalted - but tasty. Our chefs were fantastic! They made sure to put a proper show on, and kept the kids very engaged. They did the typical onion-ring volcano (kids LOVED the fire) and chopped up zucchini to catch in your mouth. A few of us diversified our choices - some went with chicken, shrimp, salmon and steak. My chicken was very tender. Even my picky-eater son enjoyed a few bites! They allowed us to bring some cupcakes into the place and helped make sure we could properly celebrate one of the kids birthdays. Overall - a wonderful time with great staff and a great spot. A few things to be mindful of: -Make reservations in advance - if you're going as a group of 2 or 4, you may need to split a table with another small group - Parking lot was hard to find space during busy times. Our "chef" was entertaining - usual onion fire volcano, throwing food in mouth and water "peeing" for kids. The wait staff were abrupt and non smiling. The food was average. The filet was definitely better than their regular steak. Fried rice was delicious but the noodles were soaked in sauce and salt! We loved the fact it was BYOB! Only downside is no fun drinks! Came here for dinner on a Saturday night recently after watching The Lion King. Let's just put it this way...its no way near the same class as Benihana, but for the price we paid it was a nice dinner. I knock down 2 starts because: a. The food is way too salty. Unlike the previous yelper who said the food had no taste and bad quality, we did not encounter bad quality, but the cook put too much soy sauce on everything. b. The food was just piled on your plate, instead of being served nicely. But I guess that is the difference between Benihana and Kyoto. Service was attentive. The chef was very good and funny. Before ordering - made waitress and chef aware of food allergies. All agreed to cook seafood at the end of the order. They have No understanding of food allergies. You will put your self at risk if you have an allergy. When chef contaminated food - argued with 9 person party (5 of who have same allergy) that it was OK to cook on same surface in spite of multiple request to have sea food prepared for party members at the end of the order. 5 of the 9 could not eat the food. This $ 300 plus order was destroyed - and they still wanted us to take it. NOT A CHANCE. The chef and staff verbally abused the group - causing the children to CRY!!! After the long wait to get the first attempt at correct order - they said it would be an additional 20 minutes before they could send another chef to recook - and they were unwilling to do that. They put our safety at risk, they insulted my family, and they expected full payment of the bill. This "new" chef did not speak English and was barely interactive with the group - until we refused to eat contaminated food. Then he was very verbal - not in english. Wow!!!!! If I could give 6 stars I would!!! This place was amazing!!!! The food was SPECTACULAR!!! I highly recommend the YUMMY sauce too! My fiancé and I came here for our 4 year anniversary and not only was the food incredible but our chef made the entire experience! Not only were we laughing and entertained by all of his talent and tricks, but we had the best conversation and learned so much about life, food, family and beyond. By my thinking, if you pay the same price you should get the same portion. But this last Saturday night is the second time I've been here, 18 years apart, where I noticed they gave me, a woman, and the adolescent a smaller portion -by half ! of steak than the men at the table. Last time it was two women, and yes we noticed, who got significantly less steak than the men. How is that fair or even legal?! I tried to talk to the owner about this practice because I did not want to blindside him with this very serious concern through just a Yelp review. His English suddenly became bad and he started stuttering that the prices had gone up. He tried to tell me he'd have his daughter call me back but I said that I knew he spoke English very well and understood that I was asking him to stop this discriminatory practice and that it's not fair or maybe it's even illegal. I asked him what he was going to do about it and surprise! He hung up on me, Thankfully his daughter called a short time after and understood that this practice is not acceptable even though she made some excuses about chefs not wanting food to be wasted so they may give women less because they eat less. I corrected her that it's not the chef's or the establishment's decision to make on how a purchase gets distributed, but it is the consumer's decision! Even that thinking is sexist and I told her so. So keep your eye out, not only ladies but, everyone because I think this is how they save money by skimping on certain people's portions. Hopefully the owners daughter will be able to exact some influence and retrain her father and the chefs on how NOT to discriminate. Just so you know.. I ordered the filet mignonette and scallops hibachi at 30.99 or maybe even a dollar more, no worries . But if my steak weighed 3 oz that is generous. Really nice hibachi place. We made reservations and the restaurant did well with distancing those who came in. We had an entire hibachi table to ourselves for 2 people. The service was quick - we were served drinks, salad, and soup right away and the hibachi chef came out within 10 minutes of us ordering. The hibachi chef was super fun and personable - he did all the fun hibachi tricks! As far as the food, they gave us a lot (which I'm not complaining about at all!) We knew from the start we'd be getting boxes to go. The food was good! A bit salty, but overall good. We would definitely go back here. I went here tonight with a group of friends. Arrived a little early-- the owner was pretty annoyed so we waited outside in the foyer to avoid him. Ordered hibachi and a Japanese (oshinko) appetizer . The food was mediocre, I had to ask for my appetizer and when I got it and took one bite it was so gross I didn't touch it. It was yellow pickles (that tasted old very old) accompanied with seaweed salad and some old mushrooms. Which is not the typical way oshinko is served. The chef was not your typical/authentic Japanese hibachi chef. He was not very interactive. I wouldn't go back - food just didn't taste fresh, and the service wasn't great. read more

They always have excellent chefs who are fun, entertaining and skilled. I would love to see them do some more cool tricks with knives, like throwing them at the customers. Cool. The food is delicious. I love the soup and salad although i would have preferred dressing on the side. The filet mignon is tender and juicy. The veggies and noodles are tasty too. Unfortunately I had a really bad experience here last night. Our reservation was for 7:00pm, by 8:15 our hibachi chef still had not come to our table. When I asked, who seemed like the owner/manager what was going on, he pointed to the two chefs behind us who were finishing a table of 30+ people us. We had to wait until those chefs were done with that party until they could start ours. The best part was, when the chef came to our table (who was so sweet and considerate) the owner neglected to turn on the grill. So we had to wait for that. I will not be going back to Kyoto, don't waste your time here. The chef was great but how can you staff an entire hibachi sushi restaurant which is very popular with just 2 chefs? Definitely got rushed through everything from ordering to eating.. Food was terrible. Over cooked and over priced. Chef raced thru cooking. They started taking our plates even though we werent finished. Had to tell them to stop. Then after we were done the owner came and asked us to move to the front. There were six of us. We were seated and finished in an hour and asked to move to the front twice. We used to love coming here but NEVER again. Really went down hill. So incredibly rude. If McDonald's made Asian food, it would be this. Food was warm, just warm, and had no flavor. I thought this was odd as we ordered off the menu, both sushi and hot food. I wasn't eating it and the waitress asked if I wanted it boxed up and I said, no thanks because it isn't good. The chicken is over cooked and the noodles have no flavor. The shrugged and walked away. me and my friends had a reservation for 4 people at 6:45. we were on time for our reservation yet it took them 20 minutes to get us to a table. After waiting for 15 minutes we asked the woman at the hostess stand how much longer the wait would be. She was extremely rude and got all up in my friends face for no reason. That is poor customer service if you ask me. All we did was kindly ask how much longer we would have to wait for our RESERVATION. The woman claimed that just because our reservation was at 6:45 that doesn't mean we had to be seated at 6:45. So then what is the point of making a reservation? The service here is not that great either. Not once did someone come over and ask how the food was, or if we needed anything. The family we were seated with was given more attention, received everything they wanted; any to go boxes, their check, honestly if they asked for the waitress to lick the bottom of their shoes she probably would. They basically disregarded us. How can you ignore paying customers? The only reason i gave this place 1 star was for the fact that the food is ok not the best but not the worst and decently priced for hibachi. This is my one of the spots that I usually end up at for lunch, mostly because it is close to my job. I sit in the sushi section because, for lunch, I don't have a lot of time, so I can't comment on how any of the hibachi aspect of this restaurant is. Generally speaking, everything that I've had (usually a California roll and a spicy tuna roll) is pretty good. I did order the avocado salad one day which, though yummy, was not what I was expecting for the price. Their ginger dressing isn't as great as the ginger dressing that I have had elsewhere. I do enjoy the shumai, as well as the sauce it comes with, so I would definitely recommend that. The other day I tried the Bento box, which is a good portion for the price. The steak was a bit chewy in my Bento box, so I didn't finish it, but the sushi, shumai, and salad were good. I do wish the waitresses would smile a little bit, say hello, or generally be a bit more pleasant than they are. Usually, they just come to the table, ask if I've decided yet, and then walk off. There have been times when they're a bit slow and times when they have tried to pull my plates when I wasn't finished yet. If they were just a bit more friendly, it would definitely boost up the atmosphere of Kyoto and the pleasantness of eating there. However, if you're looking for a decently priced lunch menu and food that you can eat within the span of your lunch break, you may as well try this out. read more

Really great hibachi spot in Florham Park. This place is byob and the chef handling the hibachi was very engaging the crowd. To start they give you a salad and a mushroom soup. Then the chef comes out and makes a very tasty lo mein which was awesome then the group decided on fried rice. Obviously everything came out hot and extremely tasty. For my meal I decided on the combination filet Mignon and chicken. This was one of the best filets I have had in awhile. Tasty chewy and extremely tasty with plenty of seasoning. The chicken was also very very good and cooked to perfection. Was able to try the shrimp which was another appetizer which again was tasty and seasoned perfectly. The scallops were awesome. Have been here a few times over the years as my parents live up the street. I go for the hibachi and mostly every time I think has been lunch. Today I had the steak and shrimp combo which came with miso, noodles, veggies and course fried rice. I should have went with the filet but the steak was pretty good. Cooked to my liking, a few fatty pieces but overall it was good. Shrimp was great I thought as always. Service was fine and the meal is enough for two people really. I am stuffed but I ate most of mine. It really you can stretch it into two meals if you wanted to bring it home. Place was empty (the hibachi part at least) but maybe people opt for a quicker meal at lunch time I don't eat hibachi often so it's nice to come here I get my fix. Huge portion of good when you sit down at the hibachi table. I've been there for lunch several times. The bento box also a huge amount of food. I normally get the chicken teryaki bento box. It comes with Miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, chicken teryaki with steamed veggies and white rice, shrimp shumai, and a California roll. I believe the price is 12.95 for that amount of food it was definitely worth it. I also had a few of the specialty rolls that change daily on the specials board and they are huge. I have never been disappointed with one of the specialty rolls. It's normally so big that I never finish the full roll and take some of it with me. Also try the green tea ice cream.
