Been coming here for over 15 years and it's still my local favorite Japanese style restaurant. Food is consistently good, both sushi and kitchen. Menu hasn't changed much over the years but that's fine, as they stay true to their strengths. A wholehearted nod to their traditional Japanese and Asian fusion flavors. My parents and I agree it's the best and closest to authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine in the area, and we've been to 9 of them. Service is always attentive, warm, and accommodating. Fresh tasty sushi in the heart of Chatham. We came for an early Friday evening dinner and had some great sushi as well as a noodle dish. We had the lover roll (lobster, crab and mango), crouching Tiger (tempura shrimp, spicy crab) and shrimp noodles. I enjoyed everything and will return. The service was a bit rushed in the beginning but then slow at the end. But nothing that would prevent me from returning. They did give us everything we needed and easily accommodated a dairy allergy. The interior is a casual spot and is a nice place for the family. My partner aaid he was happy with the sushi, it was better than some we had in the area, but we have still had better for the price we were paying. As for the cooked food, nothing felt fresh. I love that we are walking distance from this sushi spot especially since it's hard to sit down with two kids. The sushi was definitely fresh, which is what everyone hopes for in a sushi joint but you can tell there's nothing added to keep the sushi fresh looking. The kani salad was nice and refreshing with crispy cucumbers. My daughter wanted the chicken fried rice, which was delicious. A generic sushi place with probably non Japanese chefs. Very busy on a weekend night and staff was friendly. Sushi dinner didn't really taste like much. Many sushi restaurants are like this, where salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and etc sushi taste the same as every other restaurant you go to. An authentic place will use wasabi under each piece of nigiri and each fish will have a distinct flavor, with preparation to the fish often done beforehand. Rice temperature should be warm too, but that's asking too much at this price point. Dragon roll was better but still just okay. read more

These reviews leave me baffled. This was the worst meal we've had in a year. Just terrible. Sushi, Ramen, Teriyaki, Hibachi, skewers, we tried it all. The one who ordered sushi did not enjoy at all, and has spent the next day feeling terrible. Chicken and steak hibachi was unbelievably mediocre. Same for the teriyaki. Just spent over $65 on Sushi for Two takeout. Most of it was inedible. The tuna was cut wrong and couldn't be chewed. The Dragon roll had, presumably, eel inside which also was un chewable. In addition, it was covered with avocado that had turned brown. We've been going here since it opened. It was wonderful in the beginning, but the last few years has been hit or miss for its sushi. This was by far the worst it's ever been. Unfortunately, it will be the last time we patronize it. read more

Really great evening at Mitsuba! We came early and were seated immediately. Service was always great. BYOB in center of Chatham. To start we had a salad and seaweed salad. Both nice sized portions and very good. I enjoyed the dynamite and wonderful Rolls! Both were very yummy and way to much to eat at one sitting...but I did! Bf loved the beef and soba noodles. We've gotten takeout from Mitsubisba four or five times and have always been impressed. The food is delicious and service is prompt.

Better than an average suburban sushi place. Very pleasant serving and good sushi. There's nothing to complain about. It's a good solid place opening up slowly after Covid. Perhaps the empty restaurant reflects that this visit was during lunch. Prices seemed high. Deep and mixed menu. A good place to get your sushi fix. Not as good as comparably positioned places in the city. Will return to reevaluate soon. read more

We came for early dinner so it wasn't full. The sushi was so good. They were presented so beautifully. My bf had the stir-fried chicken soba noodles, which we thought could've used some more salt, but maybe they're just health-conscious. He added a bit of soy and it was fine after, so that actually made more of a versatile dish for those who don't like it too salty. This place definitely has good food. Very ordinary food. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura and they served Chicken Tempura instead. Restaurant seemed very busy and they had a notice on their door saying wait times could be long. It did take about 40 mins for the food to come and so by that time with 2 hungry kids it didn't feel like worth calling out the order mistake. We also ordered the Chicken Udon and I have to say it was one of the worst Udons I have had. The noodles to vegetables ratio was off and the veggies weren't fresh or nutritious. Just a whole bunch of onions and celery. It tasted stale and the sauce was very unappealing. I am not returning to this place. The Sushi Roll was decent though and the staff was attentive and hard working. They also offer candies so that certainly made the kiddos happy. read more

As you can expect from a Japanese restaurant located in suburban America, Mitsuba serves gigantic portions of food which is neither terribly authentic nor very tasty. The portions are so big that they would feed a small family in Japan! The ginger salad dressing is some of the best I've tasted. Creamy. Strong. Drinkable. Had the Lover Roll (lobster)and Fancy Roll (tuna). Each come with the sauces on the side which is a plus because they were sweet and mayo based. (Check out the pics). Very filling. Should have only gotten one because they are specialty rolls, but they were delicious. Service was great! Constant refills on the water. Only knock is I was extremely thirsty all night and was left with a slightly bad taste and dry mouth. Price you pay I guess? Probably all the salt. Oh, and price was reasonable.
