On entering around 1:30 pm on a Thursday, there were two couples standing at the unattended "please wait to be seated" sign, and I observed about half the tables in the front dining room had guests; the other half were covered with dirty dishes. Not wanting to spend an excessive amount of time, I peeked around the corner and observed two open seats at the small bar, so we took them instead. We had to move a dirty plate and glass over to the end of the bar. After about six minutes of sitting there with no bartender appearing we decided to just get a drink, and go elsewhere later for food. Finally a gal approached us, and it seemed that she was the only staff member on duty for both dining rooms and the bar. She was nice enough, but it was disappointing that she couldn't have just removed the dirty dishes which were six inches from my husband's elbow, not to mention the bar wasn't wiped down. The dishes were still there when we left. We caught her passing through after a while to ask for the tab, which was $7.77. My husband put down a $20 bill and she brought back $12.00. Now I realize some places are in a state of panic hysteria over "penny shortages" but you don't just round UP a guest's tab and certainly not by almost a quarter. Some places give you a discount for cash; this one penalizes you. The decor is nice, rustic and countrified. I don't know how the food is obviously. As we were leaving I noticed the front dining room tables still hadn't been cleared and we were there about 20 minutes.

The milk shake was a good, very basic milk shake. It is not very thick so I ended up using the straw for my water for this. I ended up getting a hot ham and cheese on toast as well, and it tastes as it should. Service is prompt. All in for my burger, onion rings, shake, coffee, and ham/cheese it came about $25. There is no credit card fee for this restaurant, and the prices on the menu were accurate to what I was charged. This is an Anderson institution and I'm glad I was finally able to dine in. It's a little dark and has a speakeasy feel. We turned the lamp on our table to a brighter setting to see a bit better. Our server was Chris. He is very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the food, business and building. The GM, Jeremy, gave us a tour of the upstairs portion of the building where they hold specialty events. It looked as though it had been breaded in some kind of cheese mixture. It was pan friend and the underside of my tenderloin looked like a carbon copy. It was burnt. I ate about1/4 of it. I did not care for the breading. My friends had the tenderloin and a French dip sandwich. She took the French dip home for her dog as it was too tough to eat. We had a great wait staff that checked on us and gave us time to catch up with each other Since this is an old library, there is no elevator. It is necessary to walk down 20ish steps to the main dining room. No matter what shape you are in, those steps are a hazard Would I go back again? Not for lunch, maybe dinner or pizza.
