As for our first date night at KO's restaurant. I'd have to say I was definitely very happy with the entire experience. It all started with a small walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. Which was perfect to work up an appetite for a delicious & very romantic evening. Upon arriving at the hostess stand we were immediately greeted & seated thanks to making prior reservations. Even just walking through the restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. I'll need to come back just to capture what I wasn't able to on my first visit. Like the bar & ambiance. I even liked the style of the chairs. Except my favorite part was our location for our meal. Our view overlooked the hotel, pool, sky & palm trees. This was such a beautiful & very romantic spot to enjoy each another's company. Even our server was very knowledgeable & friendly. Our waters stayed filled & even the GM was making his rounds checking on tables too. The food was also not only beautifully displayed but also tasty too. My boyfriend said the lobster was perfectly cooked & was the best he's ever had on the island. My favorite dish was the Flat Iron Kobe Beef. That sauce & everything on the plate was melt in your mouth happiness. I didn't do this, but I could have licked the plate clean it was seriously that good. The other dish I liked just because of the sauce was the Lavender Honey Crispy Shrimp. Now that flavor made my taste buds very happy. Although I was surprised the dish I was most excited to try wasn't my favorite. The Chilled Bang Bang Chicken & Somen Noodles had all the ingredients for potential. Except it was lacking the explosion of flavor I was expecting & fell more on the bland side. (However after letting it sit over night to marinate it did taste better the next day.) Boy were we wrong! Mediocre drinks, and the food was gross. The lumpia was so Dry inside the overly fried to smithereens. The pork belly bao buns-- a sad take on the what bao buns usually look like and tasted just wrong. We took one bite and that's all we could. The fish with lemongrass coconut broth was just super dry as well and inedible. So disappointing.Left hungry and just like we wasted a beautiful evening and $200 bucks. I wouldn't ever come back here and wouldn't not recommend. I'm actually really confused about whatever everyone else is saying about is being great because our experience was completely opposite. We had a memorable holiday dinner at Ko. The food from the new menu, the service, and the ambiance were exceptional. We were excited to try the new menu. When we arrived, we were greeted with a sip of freshly pressed sugarcane syrup. It was delicious. Our server, Misty, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Misty gave an incredible description of a restaurant concept inspired by the food of Hawaiian plantation days. She was fantastic. Peni, the GM of Ko, was very warm and welcoming. He came over and shared some stories. Following Misty's recommendation, I ordered the Ginger Steamed Opakapaka with Lobster. It was incredible. My husband had the Ahi Shokupan Katsu. It was fantastic. We split a Mekeke Salad. For dessert, we enjoyed the Ko Strawberry Ice Cake. It was exquisite. We loved every moment of the experience. We highly recommend it. read more

This was our first time dining at Kō since the reopening. Our server Cass made our 5 year anniversary incredibly special. We started with bubbles, then the venison lumpia and ahi hot rock. We ate it so fast that we even forgot to take pictures! Next was the Opaka with lobster tail, Chef special of rack of lamb, and a side of ramen noodles, all cooked to perfection. For desserts we ordered the malasadas, with the pinoy honey toast. Both incredible and then our server surprised us with a double chocolate cheesecake with a personalized anniversary plack! My wife and I were staying at the Fairmont, and were recommended Kō by our bartender at Mama's Fish House! He was exactly right. The food and service were top notch. They have a great wine selection at a fair price. DO NOT MISS THE HONEY SHRIMP APPETIZER! I had the paella and really enjoyed it (although it could have used more salt). My wife had the catch of the day and it was delicious. We had the chocolate chantilly cake for dessert (as far as dresser goes it was good but not blow your mind good). I would definitely go back. The food was excellent, and the service was professional and gracious. Despite booking far in advance when every time slot was available, calling the week of to note the occasion and request a decent table, and even speaking with a host in person the day before, we were seated outside the main dining room, next to the hotel restrooms, facing its hallway. I understand that desirable tables are limited and that no request can be guaranteed. Still, it was disheartening to spend the evening in what felt like an overflow area, surrounded by three empty tables, in front of the host stand, watching other guests enjoy the view, the architecture, and the full experience. We had no choice. We were facing the main room, and the main room faced the ocean. I don't know what more I could have done to communicate this request. After a week of walking past Ko, I still don't know what it feels like to sit inside. We've never made it past the lobby. I brought my Korean family to a Korean restaurant hoping for something meaningful. When I expressed my disappointment, I was met with a blank stare. Whatever the formula is for being seated inside at Ko, we clearly didn't crack it--and probably never will. read more

We had a sunset dinner Al fresco and the scenery was beautiful. Our server was very friendly but service was very slow. The walk from the kitchen and dining room seemed long for our servers bringing food out. However, if you're not in a rush, it makes for some wonderful views and pictures. The food was very good, and everyone liked their dishes. If their service was better, I might have given another star. The location of this restaurant was stunning. You get a view of the ocean and we aught the sunset during our dinner. I started with the pork belly bao buns were delicious, I loved the radishes that they put on top. For my entree I got the oishi sushi and this definitely filled me up! Very good flavors with great mix of greens in the dish, brightened up with a light sprinkling of lemon juice. Zarzuela: Lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and sausage in a tomato saffron broth. Seemed like a Cioppino inspired creation, the seafood was very fresh but the broth is hard to beat at some of the good Ciopinno restaurants in SF. Ahi tataki on Shrimp Toast: Good appetizer to start with, should have ordered two since the kids loved it. Banana Bread Old Fashioned: Rum, scotch, roasted banana and walnuts for flavor. Casual, peaceful restaurant tucked away, off to the southern wing of the Kea Lani Fairmont hotel. The restaurant mostly overlooks the southern pool, with very limited views of the ocean (if any). However, the atmosphere and view is still great, nonetheless. The Fairmont grounds are quite attractive, so I didn't mind at all that I didn't have clear views of the ocean. The staff was very friendly (our waiter even shared pictures of their ohana/family) and attentive. Our waiter in particular went out of their way to make sure the kids felt comfortable and were happy with their meals. The food was quite good, and focuses more on Hawaiian-inspired dishes than some of the other resort restaurants. We ordered the following: - green papaya and root salad: Good, reminds me of the papaya salads we order from Thai restaurants on the mainland. - kona kampachi crudo: Delicious! Really liked this dish. Presentation was very nice and flavor was very good. - grilled island catch: Very good, would order again. - seafood lau lau: Fun and unique dish with good flavors, but a bit too coconuty for me. I think this dish would have benefited from some variety in textures, like adding some crispy fresh elements to balance the heavier coconut broth and sweet potato mash. - house made banana bread: Good, but DO NOT let your waiter pour the entire thing of rum sauce on your bread! I felt it was way too sweet with the amount of sauce. Just ask for them to leave the sauce on the side and you can pour to your liking This dinner really made me appreciate the Fairmont more than I had before. Had a date night in Maui with hubby and was lucky to get a table here last minute. I am gluten free and let it be known upon being seated. We were celebrating an anniversary and arrived a bit early for a sunset dinner seating. They seated us at a lovely table front row overlooking the pool, in prime view of the conch shell blowing ceremony. The restaurant is situated inside the Fairmont Kea Lani Wailea, but not overlooking the ocean. We went because it received the best restaurant award by Maui No Ka Oi magazine so decided to give a hotel restaurant a shot. It started promising with the lavender honey crispy shrimp ($26) - the best honey walnut shrimp ever! My mai tai with pina collada foam was delicious and strong ($19). My husband had the fresh catch mahi with kale pesto and mac nut crust ($57), which was not very good. Tiny portion, no mac nut crust, plain rice, hard carrots, all for $57. On the bright side, I had the lobster tempura ($62), which had four big pieces and jasmine rice plus dipping sauces, so he ate half of mine. We didn't opt for dessert and thought they'd gift us dessert for our anniversary, but nothing special, not even a cookie or ice cream. I'd recommend this place if you are staying at the hotel, but wouldn't make a special trip there. Mama's blows it away. read more

Came here on a Wednesday night and based off the one sashimi plate and two drinks we had, it was SO good. We had ordered the tuna ahi appetizer, (Island fresh tuna with orange ginger miso) and I've never had tuna like this in my entire life! The tuna came with a bowl that had a hot searing stone, which helped sear the tuna. I really really wanted to love Kō and if I could give 3.5 stars I would, but unfortunately our anniversary dinner was a little bit of a disappointment. We originally made reservations for 8pm, very late, but all that was available at the time. We arrived early and explored the beautiful Fairmont hotel to kill some time. Highly recommend, the Fairmont lovely! They texted us about 7:35pm that our table was ready, which was great, but honestly we probably should of kept our original res time bc we were sat at far corner (not under lighted cover area) so it was very very dark. There was some tiki torches a little way out so that helped, but basically we were eating in darkness with the exception of a little candle light. I like to eat with my eyes too and of course it was little hard to take pics in darkness, but we tried to make the best of it... I saw such beautiful pictures of the dishes online, but I couldn't really see my food when it came out... it was a bit of a disappointment tbh since we were celebrating our honeymoon. We ordered the ahi rock appetizer & added an additional piece of ahi for $6 since it only came with 3 pcs. Free bread & crackers also came out, really liked the bread with a little sweet potato in the middle. For entrees we ordered the lobster tempura & lamb chops. Our waitress did bring a second candle out bc she saw we staring at my lobster shell really hard to see if there was still meat inside. I'm pretty sure there was, but I couldn't really see well enough to get it all out haha Overall the lobster tempura was super rich, came with rice and some veggies. Honestly, I think it could of used something to balance the richness, maybe additional veggies beside broccoli that seems semi cooked. Don't get me wrong, the lobster tempura was huge and yummy, but I feel like the dish as a whole needed more, especially for the price point. The lamb on the other hand was very well balanced and cooked perfectly, we shared it and it was a good amount of food. Would definitely come back and order this again, sweet potato mash was a nice touch. Overall, service was friendly, but as the night went on we kind of got forgotten about. Maybe her shift was ending, but we had a hard time flagging her down and asking for dessert menu & check. For dessert we got creme brûlée inside a pineapple. We came here for a celebratory birthday dinner. Reservations were made in advance through Open Table. They offer complimentary valet parking. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were immediately seated in a booth. The hostesses were very friendly and welcoming. We started with drinks and pork belly bao buns. The bao buns were so yummy and the perfect start to our meal. The pork belly was tender and flavorful without having too much fat. The pickles and sauce on top added crunch and a savory taste. For dinner we ordered the bone-in rib eye, chicken red curry, mahi mahi with macadamia nuts & kale pesto, and barbecue pork chops. I don't like my food too spicy so they made my dish with yellow curry so it was perfectly mild. Everyone loved their food! The presentation, flavors, and portion sizes were wonderful. Of course we saved room for dessert and we each wanted to try something different: banana bread with rum sauce, melon bingsu, Ko Ko puff ala mode, and calamansi tart. Such a great night at Kō. It was our first time and we were not disappointed. Beautiful setting inside the Fairmont. The service was phenomenal. Many thanks to Leanne, Roland, and James. They took great care of us and were continually checking in. Leanne ensured that my food was dairy free and even did some double checking; truly above and beyond. The food and drinks are fantastic. Very creative and even some zero proof drink options...I tried the Lilikoo No-jito and the Hibiscus Fizz; both were tasty, but I liked the Lilikoi No-into a bit more. We enjoyed: the fish special, which was a mahi mahi with 3 prawns, mango salsa, and mashed potatoes, the Zarzuela, which is a tomato saffron broth with lobster, shrimp, scallops, New Zealand mussels, clams, and chorizo and came with a side of rice, and the Seafood Lau Lau which had mahi mahi, scallops, and prawns, spinach, mushrooms, shoyu-coconut milk sauce, lomi tomato, and a side of Moloka'i sweet potato mash. Way overpriced for the quality. My husbands stomach didn't feel good after eating there and food tasted mediocre. We had a sushi roll, Kampachi crudo, and chicken a mushroom lumpia. The lumpia was plain and boring, the roll was kinda soggy and the Kampachi was ok. Also had a cocktail which was nothing spectacular. The bill was over 100 for tiny bites and we weren't satisfied. We went to Kai at the recommendation of a friend. I would have given them 2 stars but the service saves them. While there is a great view of the ocean, the food was lackluster. I had had wagyu pancrit noodles. The noodles were tasty but the wagyu could have been any old steak. Definitely not like the wagyu in Japan. My wife had a salad but was disappointed in the overall lack of creativity in the ingredients. The wait staff was awesome. We tried 4 signature drinks and really only appreciated the mai tai. All others were a miss. We actually sent two back and they were very accommodating. Food was good. Honey Macadamia Shrimp started was delicious, probably best of the three items we tried. We also had Lobster Tempura, very good but even a fun presentation still made for a fairly average dish. It just didn't wow us. Last item was the Zarzuela. It's a cioppino dish and was another that really didn't deliver. The menu described the fish that was in it and said it was a saffron broth. What it failed to say is that it was loaded with tomatoes and olives, both items I can't tolerate. I guarantee they'd have taken care of me had I requested, but it was late and my wife would have been long done by the time I had something. I just picked through it and ate the fish, rice and broth. Those components were very good but it was disappointing just the same. We probably wouldn't return but it's definitely going to impress many and is worth your time. read more

A word to the wise....they only offer Brunch on a Sunday, not the a la carte lunch menu. We had booked not realizing this (our OpenTable booking did not state it) and had to cancel same day when we found out (2 hours before we were due) because 1 person has strict medical dietary allergies and another 2 have not had Covid and didn't want to risk a public buffet. When we cancelled we called to apologise and explain and were told we had to pay $25 per head for the cancellation! Left a bad taste in the mouth after we were looking forward to trying out this new restaurant. We will try another visit when a la carte is definitely available as they offer Kamaaina rates and and the friends we booked with really want to try it out. Hopefully I will be able to update with a more positive review. read more

We just had a wonderful experience here that totally blew away our expectations. For reference, we ate at Mama's last night which, don't get me wrong, was also a wonderful experience. The food here, however, was at least on par with that - which is not common knowledge. I'd like to give a big thank you to our server Luiz. He couldn't have been more kind, helpful, and enthusiastic about the food at Kō. He gave me a great recommendation on both the seafood lau lau and the banana bread dessert. Also, my wife is vegan and they have a great vegan menu. The vegan items they offered weren't lazy or bland either. We shared a peanut noodle dish that was super flavorful and refreshing. My wife had some sort of tofu with coconut rice. She isn't normally a tofu fan but the flavor of this one was incredible - almost tasted smoked. Coconut rice was her favorite though. You can tell they put a lot of effort into all of their food, no exceptions. My dish was awesome. Like a big seafood stew with scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi (I think?). Drinks were great too. I started off with a liliqoa margarita (passionfruit) which was excellent The menu has an Indian & Asian influence. My brother in law had the coconut soup. I had the fresh catch of the day, seabass. They offer it with 3 different preparations. I had the macadamia nut crust, which was excellent. It came with bok choy and Hawaiian sweet potato mash (yum) My sister and mother had the Asian noodles with shrimp and scallops. I tasted it, great spices and flavors. For dessert we had the banana bar with vanilla ice cream. It tasted like a banana cake with chocolate. It was really good My sister had the passion fruit cheesecake. It was perfectly sweet and tart. If you're looking for a resort dinner that features a fusion of Hawaiian and various Asian cuisines/flavors, highly recommend making a reservation at Ko. They have nice open air seating with a mostly outdoor area. Since we were staying off property and booked a late dinner (reservations fill up quickly!), we had snacked a bit before so only got entrees (though the smaller plates sounded tempting) and dessert. The lemongrass coconut broth was one of my favorite dishes that I had on our trip to Maui - it's one of their fresh catch preparation options. I opted for mahi mahi as the fresh catch fish for the meal. The broth was so flavorful - a nice balance of tangy citrus with a subtle spiciness of ginger and creaminess of the coconut milk; it complemented and brought out the sweetness of the mahi mahi. It was served with a side of garlic rice which brought me back to my Filipino roots, which made the dish feel so comforting. My husband had the seafood lau lau which came wrapped in a ti leaf and included a nice variety of seafood; I didn't get to try it because I was so focused on the lemongrass coconut broth, but he enjoyed it. Next time we'd probably give it a pass though it's still delicious. - Specialty fish of the day simmered in a lemon grass coconut broth - MRKT price - The fish (unfortunately the name escapes me) was very tender and delicate. The broth it came with was fantastic with a robust coconut and lemon grass flavor. If you like either ingredients this is a dish to try! - Paniolo Bone-In Ribye - $59 - This was one of the best steaks I've had. Very tender and perfectly good. The sweet potato mash (purple in color!) was a perfect accompaniment to the dish. This is a must have for steak lovers!
