Sausage roll, scone & cherry chocolate shortbread

Hello! You had me at sausage rolls! We've known about Marenka and La Liatha since her days as a vendor at the Shoreline Farmer's Market and then Queen Anne. During her soft opening, I went two consecutive weekends to pick up the highly anticipated, delicious sausage rolls. I purchased a few to heat up in the air fryer. Everything she makes is magic! Since my last visit, La Liath just has their grand opening. Service is friendly and prompt!

I saw an Instagram post about a tea biscuit assortment from Lá Liath Bakery and noted their presence at opening day of the Shoreline Farmers Market. I was there after the 10am opening (6/3/23), such a crowd on such a pleasant, sunny Saturday! I had the opportunity to meet Marenka Dobes, owner/chef of la Liath Bakery and thankfully there was a tea biscuit assortment available. Lovely, welcoming individual. She crafts her freshly baked goods line from a commercial kitchen in Georgetown. Can't wait when she opens her shop in Wallingford! I managed to hold off two hours before admiring then nibbling through the four types of tea biscuits. As it brought a smile and genuine satisfacation, these are highly recommended at treat for yourself or to share. Makes a terrific gift, just because. Excellent find!

Love this place! We've been multiple times and it's reliably great! Their sausage rolls taste just like we're back in Borough Market!

Ask the Community - Lá Liath Bakery

Is there seating or is it just take-away?

It is just takeaway. Just a production kitchen and front pastry counter. Pro tip: try to visit earlier in the day for best selection. And have patience finding parking in Wallingford, since on N 45th near I-5 exits. Enjoy! The pastry chef/owner,… Read more

They were both extremely fluffy and flavorful. The savory one had a nice chipotle sauce in addition to hollandaise. The strawberry one was not too sweet and moist. You order at the counter and pick up your food here. The soufflé pancakes took awhile (30 mins?) to come out, but it was worth it. We came on a weekend as soon as it opened, but there was already a line. I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and the food - one of the few places to get soufflé pancakes in Seattle!

First, the negatives that didn't affect my rating: parking is a pain, but that's expected for this neighborhood in Seattle. Seating is also very cramped and tight during the dinner rush. Annoying, yes, but understandable. What did affect the rating was the food itself. The Oreo brownie bingsu looked beautiful, but honestly it just was not very good. I've had much better bingsu elsewhere, even at chains like Snowy Village. It felt more Instagram-worthy than actually enjoyable. The mango cheesecake crepe was even worse. My friend and I literally scraped all the filling off and just ate the crepe itself because the toppings tasted so artificial. The mangoes tasted frozen, the syrup was overly sweet and processed tasting, and the whole thing lacked freshness. For the price, it was genuinely disappointing. The final bill ended up being over $40, which would have been easier to justify if the desserts were memorable, but they really weren't. One last thing: I don't mind tipping when there's actual service involved, but this is essentially counter service where customers are also expected to clear their own trays afterward. Having the tipping screen pop up at checkout after that experience just felt excessive and awkward.

They open later, 4pm during the week and 3pm on the weekends and open until midnight. Great place to get dessert and a drink. We were there at opening, and ordere the grilled cheese which comes with tomato soup, crème brûlée and I had th hot chocolate. The sandwich was good, although I would have liked a slice more cheese. The soup was really amazing. I don't often like tomato soup but this was the exception. Chunks of tomato and a full flavor without a lot of spices. The crème brûlée was warmed and freshly caramelized on top. This is not made in advance and just refrigerated which seems to be more common these days. The hot chocolate hit the spot! Options for no -dairy alternatives were offered which I almost forgot to ask. Liked the atmosphere, spacious and high ceilings. The staff was very friendly and nice. They had a rush when they opened and didn't seem unusual for them. The candied orange was a nice touch.
