My favorite chocolates are made in Switzerland, Belgium, and Japan. So I was pleasantly surprised to find a Läderach Chocolate shop while walking around South Coast Plaza. They were handing out samples of their hazelnut chocolate bars, and after one bite, I knew I had to step inside to look around and try some more. Such luxuriously rich and smooth chocolate morsels that melt so exquisitely in your mouth (where you can taste and smell the layers of quality ingredients contained in each piece). Really took me back to my last trip to Switzerland when I overindulged in chocolates and fondue (and it was so very worth it). Pricing is by the pound if you get items a la carte. Truffles and pralines are $84 per lb (works out to be average of $3 per piece) and their chocolate bark bars (aka FrischSchoggi) are about $60 to $64 per lb. Otherwise there are prepackaged boxes at set prices ranging from about $20 to $150 and more. Today I sampled the hazelnut chocolate bar, pava praline square, a white chocolate espresso truffle, and a champagne truffle. I ultimately decided to purchase the pava praline set (comes with 8 pieces) and 5 pieces of the white chocolate expresso truffles. Total was just under $40. Truffles came in nicely designed, minimalistic boxes. They are located on the second floor of the Bloomingdale's wing of South Coast Plaza, above Sephora. read more

Läderach has some of the best chocolate I've ever had. Being authentic Swiss chocolate, you can really taste the quality in every bite. Everything was fresh, rich, and beautifully displayed, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The prices were actually very reasonable for premium imported chocolate, and I thought it was well worth it. Who doesn't love Läderach? The chocolate here is so top-of-the-line, it's hard to really get anything wrong. You'd have to really fumble a guest's experience. What I love about this particular location is how patient they are - at least, when I go. I usually know what I want, but I also can't help but try other items before buying the Strawberry, and this place is really cool about letting me sample and try things. Located in South Coast Plaza, Laderach is one of my favorite chocolate brands around. I think about their hazelnut chocolate quite a lot. It's truly luxury chocolate, so it isn't cheap. I got an assortment of the chocolate this time, which means I can try new flavors and determine which I want to purchase next time. I love Laderach! They are known for their Frischschoggi, which literally translates to "fresh chocolate." These slabs of chocolate are divine! So rich and creamy, depending on the type of chocolate you like. I've been coming here since this place opened and have tried almost all of their flavors lol. My favorites are the White Chocolate Pistachio, the Hazelnut Milk Chocolate, Raspberry-Blackberry White, the Macadamia Milk Chocolate, the Almond Milk Chocolate, and Pumpkin Spice. They also have a Dubai Style Chocolate which is a little too salty. Their pralines and truffles are excellent as well! They have lots of cute chocolate boxes you can buy and give as gifts too. Just be careful because it's easy to spend all your money here lol. They also give you a sample to try when you are in line. Customer service is great and you can try more samples when you reach the register. Lines can get really long on the weekends. However, this is a must for me every time I go to South Coast. It's like the necessity of hitting up an Auntie Anne's or Wetzel's Pretzels when you go to the mall. Happy eating! read more

Oh Laderach... you are so tasty... but so expensive. Never have I ever spent to much on chocolate! I always go for the type of chocolate that they measure, break off and that you can get in any size. Be careful - it adds up quickly ;) There's almost any type of chocolate that you can think of so definitely take a look! Be prepared to queue a little bit on a weekend; it gets busy. The pricing is justified for the kind of quality chocolate you get here. We buy these chocolates as gifts for people all the time since the packaging looks really great as well! They have rotating flavors and are always experimenting new flavors for their customers. You can try out the chocolate before you buy it, which is a plus. My favorite was the matcha chocolate, but I also love their macadamia nut milk chocolate (this one seems to be available year round). The shop is small and can get jam packed in there with people, especially during the major holidays. Customer service is awesome. read more

I just Discovered this Chocolatier today. Passing by the window and seeing all the stacked tablets of sweet and colorful goodness was already a feast for the eye. I had to stop. The line was descent and was moving fairly quickly. The staff were super friendly. The place was buzzing with energy. The store is nicely put together with tons of beautiful arrangements. There was a sample counter with tons of options to try from. The sweet smell of all the different chocolates was intoxicating. Their menu items are unique. Only reason I brave the craziness of South Coast Plaza is for Uniqlo, Din Tai Fung, & THIS CHOCOLATE. This shop is located on the same side as Bloomingdale's. They offer samples of their frischschoggi (chocolate bark) when you walk in. Tons of different chocolates & packages on display. They also have a per piece section for the truffles. But I come here for the per pound frischschoggi. You can sample any flavor. My favorite is the cornflake & the strawberry. Although on the pricier side ~ $50/lb, it's worth it. Lol. The chocolate is so smooth, silky & not overly sweet. There are also prepackaged sampler frischschoggi boats with all the flavors. Anyways, give it a try. Go get a sample. read more

Great experience at this store. Upon entry I was greeted by Austin who had a tray of yummy milk chocolate hazelnut samples to try. He was very knowledgeable in the various chocolates this store has to offer. I picked out a of their dark truffle 12 pieces for $34 and a box of their praline and truffles with alcohol 36 pieces for $70. What a delicious treat! I also got a couple of their bark pieces for myself. Both boxes were nicely gift wrapped by Anthony who did a fabulous job. Staff overall was great. Overall store was clean and all the prices were displayed so that was nice. Ambiance was nice especially since it now decorated for the holidays. There's now an option to buy gift cards to this store as well as personalize your own gift basket. Even though this store is only 1/10 of the original Laderach store in Switzerland, it still packs a lot of variety and flavors. Have already been back a couple of times during the week to this store location. Located in the Bloomingdale's side of South Coast Plaza and in the second floor close to the escalators. I recently discovered Laderach for the first time. A couple of friends and I had lunch at South Coast Plaza and passed by it while browsing the shops. My sweet tooth is not super strong and I can usually resist sweets in cases. However, you just pass by the front window with those giant chocolate tablets and get a whiff of the chocolate, it is pretty irresistible. The shop was crowded and buzzing. It is a fairly large space. There was a line for the tablet or bark pieces - whatever you'd like to call them. I only picked up a couple of truffles, which I regretted as soon as I tasted them at home. The champagne truffle was similarly divine as the ones at Teuscher chocolates, one of my favorite shops for luxury chocolate. The feuilletine was also amazing, thin, crispy, toasted crepes in chocolate. The milk chocolate was so silky and delicious, yet not overly sweet. We were told they normally offer samples but they were not offered while we were there. My friend offered a taste of their signature candied hazelnut chocolate, which is a broken piece from the large tablets. It was so good, it had me returning at the first opportunity. read more

This place is fancy. I like fancy things, but the chocolates here are just too pricey for me to have on the regular. While they sell boxed chocolates, what I come here for is the bark chocolates purchased at the front of the shop. I love the dark chocolate raspberry. It has the subtle sweetness from the dark chocolate and a hint of fresh tartness from the raspberry. Since they use freeze dried raspberries, it gives it a slight crunch when biting into it. They break off as large or small of a piece that you want, weigh it, and charge you for it. You can buy the pre-packaged bark where you save a little bit of money per pound, but then you get a variety of flavors, including ones you might not like. Either way, Läderach is a place that I don't frequent due to the price, but I will come back to from time to time to treat myself. read more
