Really REALLY great pastries. I actually loved the kouign amann more than the croissants even though that's what they are known for. The seating on the second floor was a nice touch. Seems like there were no restrooms which knocks a star off. I hope to one day be lucky enough to score a box of mini croissant cereal. The one tacky thing that was minor but still odd to me was when I ordered four pastries (3 types of croissants and a kouign amann) and everything was dumped into a paper bag. Not a waxed bag or a small box, a regular old paper bag that instantly had oil transfer from the buttery goodness inside. Felt like the pastries were crushed when dumped into the bag. Best croissants I've had across the boroughs. I tried the pistachio rose and raspberry almond and both flavors are so fragrant. It's a perfect vessel to carry the nuttiness of the pistachio rose and the tartness of the raspberry through and I prefer this smashed type of croissant than the puffed airy ones. Verdict: overhyped, overpriced, not a fan of their flat croissants. Well, I only waited for 3 mins in line so I wasn't mad abt it. Maybe they are only meant to feed your phone and Instagram. Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon and there was no line, and most of the croissants I wanted to try were still available. I got to try their plain croissant, pistachio-rose, Nutella-almond, almond, & their kouign-amann. I usually benchmark bakeries off their plain croissant and kouign-amann and their kouign-amann sucked. It was really bready and not caramel-y like I expected a good one to be. Their plain croissant was flakey yet also on the more bready side. I would say their best croissants were the ones they are most known for- the pistachio rose & almond, but they were on the tad sweet side, if you're into that. I mostly nibbled at each to kind of taste test all and while they were good, I wouldn't be able to finish one on my own because it was just a little heavy. The famous Brooklyn bakery born from the pandemic! Make sure to get there early (they open at 8am) to secure your place on the line- when we got there at 7:40am on a Saturday morning, there were about 10 groups ahead of us. The store is below an apartment building, so future guests, please be mindful of the folks upstairs :) My husband was gunning to get a box of the Croissants Cereal (tiny croissants in cereal form, imagine a spoonful of little croissants)- there were maybe 10 groups ahead of us and as we saw people coming out with grins on their faces and a box of cereal in their hands, we were getting nervous. Line moves pretty fast (thank you, L'Appartement 4F staff!)- once you're at the counter, you can see their menu to see what they have that day. We got some classic croissants, a tahini chocolate chip cookie and some of their specialty croissants (one with nutella, and another with pistachio/rose) and the very last of the small boxes of croissant cereal! Including tip, it all came to $60+- pretty steep for a bakery (but the little box of cereal is like $25 so there ya go...) We hurried back home to enjoy the goods and oh.my.goodness- i think it was the best croissant I've ever had. I'm pretty sure it was 80% butter (your fingers will be shiny from the butter) but it was just so rich, so decadent, so flavorful....! SO worth the hype, in my humble opinion (to be completely honest- I don't even LIKE croissants that much, so this one really changed my mind) moral of the story- get there early! Been following this couple since I heard they started a bakery in their apartment during COVID. They went from baking in their apartment to a brick and mortar store. Finally got a chance to visit their store. The store is for takeout on the day I went, upstairs is closed and a table with 2 chairs is available outside. With 5 customers, it's comfortable though with more customers, it can get crowded. They accept credit cards and cash. There are 5 different croissant flavors plus sandwiches, baguettes, and drinks. Ugh...I forgot to ask about petite croissant cereal. Though, I am thrilled to be able to pick up various croissants (raspberry almond, chocolate, and plain) and tahini chocolate chip cookie, which everyone on line after me ordered one so I have to try it too. So at first I thought this place was overhyped but I made another stop here and changed my mind. That raspberry almond croissant is fantastic. I'm not even a huge fan of raspberry. I came here about 30 minutes before closing, so I was only able to try the chocolate chip cookie and the croissant. Both were very good, which I found particularly impressive considering it was the end of the day. The cookie was moist but still had enough if "crunch" in the bite, and the chocolate was a little nutty in flavor; the sweetness was offset with some hints of salt. I went on a Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM and there was no big line. There were just a few people inside. I asked a bunch of questions and they were super helpful. I ordered an iced chai latte and a pastry that was basically a croissant dipped in sugar and filled with raspberry that was by far the most amazingly delicious treat- the focaccia was OK but definitely not, ordering it was a bit dry. It would've been great with a side of marinara or some kind of sauce. They also had a ham and butter sandwich and a ratatouille with goat cheese, but that was sold out. Finally made the trek out for some croissants! There was already a line early in the morning. You order from the first floor with the option to go or head upstairs to enjoy your pastries and coffees. Oh dear, this place is WONDERFUL. We went early and there was already a line but happy to report they were excellent with line management, and better still, it's MORE than worth the wait. The pistachio rose croissant, cinnamon roll and baguettes were absolute perfection. I will say you really could get anything here and I have no doubt it would be delicious. Flavors were subtle but fillings were generous, pastry flaky and all the finishes just beautiful. A little extra crispy bit on the cinnamon roll with a nicely sharp, not too sweet cinnamon flavor. The pistachios in a very finely chopped paste but not perfectly smooth added depth of flavor. The rose was just a hint and felt like a gift each time it was detected. The steam from the ovens here has fogged up the windows here. It's difficult to see the outside from where we sat on the second level, which made it easy for us to imagine that we were at a Parisian cafe this morning. If you wear glasses like me, bring a wipe to clear your lenses from the fog. Here in Brooklyn, we are spoiled by the options of quality croissants that are easily available near downtown. In terms of price, the croissants here are comparable to those from other Brooklyn bakeries. In terms of texture, these are more dense and chewy than others I have had, yet equally enjoyable. I liked that the Nutella inside the croissant wasn't overly sweet and gave a creamy contrast to the crunchy almond slivers. The framboise croissant was fruity and well-balanced. So, this little neighborhood bakery was trending all over Instagram and touted to have the best croissants. I decided to wake up super early one morning so that I be there before the lines get long, since they are known to sell out of items within an hour of opening. The place was a bit small, but quite charming, displaying all the croissants and baked goods. There is also an upstairs with a decent amount of seating and lovely, simple decor of the floral variety. For once, I knew exactly what I wanted to order. I got the Nutella Almond Croissant, Everything Baguette, and Chocolate Tahini cookie. My heart was set on trying the Jambon Fromage (ham & cheese) Croissant, but they were sadly out of that. As I substitute, I decided on the Frambroise (raspberry) Almond Croissant, since people were raving about it. All of this amounted to around $20, which isn't too bad. I sat upstairs to enjoy the Nutella Almond Croissant, which was simply delightful. I mean, how can anything containing Nutella not be? The croissant itself was slightly crunchy, flaky, and buttery. There was plenty of irresistibly fragrant tasting almond paste on top, along with a generous helping of rich, nutty, chocolate-y Nutella stuffed inside. The combination of Nutella and almond together was divine! In theory, the Raspberry Almond Croissant sounded really good, as it included Raspberry Jam and paste. However, I did not care for it and since I had it the next day, the croissant was softer and not as fresh. The Everything Baguette had a wonderful balance of everything seasoning. The bread was quite tender and enjoyable to eat. As for the Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookie, it was moist, melt in your mouth, and had a lovely sweetness from the chocolate. I didn't actually taste the tahini though, which was a disappointment. I'm glad I was able to try this place at least once, and while I think the croissants were yummy, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. read more

Love their croissants. I can see why people line up for them so early in the morning. It's so flaky and crunchy. I also like that even after layering the crossiants with toppings, it's not soggy at all and still very crunchy and delicious. I would definitely come back again to try their other bread/pastries although they are a bit pricey for croissants. Shop is small and has cute decor. I also liked the wonderful smell of bread when you walk in. There's a mini table outside with a chair if you want to sit outside. (I am so charmed by their story of how they started as a small business selling croissants out of their apartment!) I got Le Framboise (the raspberry almond croissant) which was one of their best sellers (along with the Pistachio Raspberry Croissant). I absolutely loved this pastry. The tartness of the raspberry jam filling really cut through the buttery croissant and the sweet almond frangipane. I thought the croissant had great flakiness and flavor too. I've been to this very popular spot a couple times. The regular Almond Croissant/Croissant Aux Amands is a bit different than the usual croissant being buttery but not as flaky. I slightly prefer the one at Bien Cuit as there is both a better filling there and also I think theirs has a better texture. If you want to go all out, they have two much fancier croissants. There is the Pistachio & Rose as well as the Le Framboise. I have never been able to get the raspberry one as it's always been sold out but the pistachio & rose one was good though it was not $8 good. I found it a bit sweet with the pistachio flavor definitely dominating of the two.
