This is a cute bakery and their AC works which is great on a hot summer day, lol! I also saw a bunch of instagram posts about this place so I stopped by. There were quite a few pastries, cookies, and cakes to pick from. So I got the item I saw which was the pistachio rice crispy. It's huge. I do wish it was smaller so then I could try mulitple items but what can you do when you solo travel. :P The rice crispy was very soft and chewy and I really enjoyed the flavor as well. After 400 Instagram reels telling me to try Hani's, I did - I went & did the most nyc thing ever & waited in line for food. there were about 10 people in front of us & the line moved pretty quickly. probs 10 minutes outside on the sidewalk then 3 mins inside - I am happy to report this pastry joint also had good coffee. I got an iced americano with a splash of almond milk which they let me pour myself from a little pitcher. the espresso was smooth and the almond milk was clearly not that trash almond breeze brand - I got the malted cinnamon roll. duh. the roll is soft with a stretchy consistency in the dough. the frosting is the perfect mix of sweet vanilla bean with a rich tang from the malted flavor. Small bakery that sells out of a number baked goods by noon. So, that means this place is tasty! I got here by 1pm and grabbed a slice of carrot cake and their honey cake and got a booth that fits about 4 very small people in the back. The cakes were a really large portion and we didn't finish it all. So when they ask for here or to go, ask to take them to go even if you eat it in the bakery. The carrot cake was so good. It had carrot and coconut like frosting and a lot of other flavors. Just loved it. The honey cake is not like a Russian honey cake. It's a frosted cake that tasted like gram crackers? When we got inside, we ordered the Souffle Egg Sandwich, Shakshuka Croissant Tart, Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie, and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. The interior was tiny but we managed to snag a small table right away. The first item we tried was the Shakshuka Croissant Tart, which might have been my favorite. The pastry was perfectly flakey and I loved the runny egg with feta cheese. Next, we tried the Meyer Lemon Meringue Pie and Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. Both of these were awesome, although the monkey bread was a bit too decadent for me. Again, great textures all around! Stopped by on a rainy Sunday afternoon and still had to wait in line, although thankfully it wasn't too long. I had really high expectations for this place based on all the hype, and it completely delivered. I picked up some of their most popular items, including the triple chocolate chunk cookie, a cinnamon bun, and the honey cake. All three were fantastic. The line was thankfully not too long and we were able to secure a malted cinnamon bun ($8.50) as well as a slice of their famous honey cake ($14). The bakery was packed inside so we opted to take our treats to Tompkins Sq Park to enjoy. I thought the cinnamon roll at Hani's looked gorgeous, with a smooth, thick malted frosting poured on top. But I felt the pastry underneath was actually the driest and most dense out of all the cinnamon rolls I tried that day. It lacked the lightness and fluffiness that I expected but I did like the flavor of the malted frosting. I had very high expectations for the honey cake as well, since it was listed on NYT's Top 25 Essential Pastry List but unfortunately the cake fell short for me. As someone who grew up eating medovik, I thought Hani's rendition veered too much on the tart side and the cake layers, again, were too dense and didn't melt in my mouth. The chive cream cheese and salmon was a great combination. The watermelon radishes gave this dish a new, elevated twist on a bagel with cream cheese. The food here was delicious and the service was top notch - the vibe is energetic as they have a long and narrow seating area so you end up close to everyone when it gets busy. And it gets busy! I heard a lot about this spot and when I randomly was in the area, my friend and I lined up to try it out. It was already 3pm, so not many items were available left. We ended up ordering the Pumpkin Spice Banana Bread and Pistachio Rice Krispie, both around $7-8 each. It's a pretty good-sized portion for the price, but didn't find the flavor to stand out much for me. My friend also ordered the Spicy Tuna Sandwich ($18), which was thick and filled. The spicy tuna flavor was delicious although messy to eat with the soft tuna and avocado mixture. Overall, I wasn't very impressed with Hani's, but I did like their atmosphere and aesthetics of the space. The frosting on the cinnamon bun was a bit too much for me, and I definitely preferred the moist and rich classic brownie execution. The hot chocolate was good although perhaps a bit thick. I love both the sweet and savory options at Hani's! The staff here always have the best recommendations when I ask for favorites. Here's some of my favorite pastries I've tried. -Paneer tikka pinwheel: The pinwheel is crispy on the outside with layers, like a croissant. And the paneer tikka filling adds a nice spice with a slight sweetness to it to balance it all out. -Turkey Swiss pinwheel: This is a fun take on turkey swiss flavor since it has gochujang, seaweed, and a little sweet and spicy flavor. I love the combination of all the flavors! -Cookie butter monkey bread: Absolutely delicious and filled with so much cookie butter. Also crispy on the outside, soft and layered on the inside. Even the inside is filled with cookie butter with some cinnamon mixed in as well. They only have this on weekends but definitely recommend! Finally going to try hani's bakery! It's located in the east village by Saint Marks! It's a pretty small shop, but they have limited seating, but it is first come serve. They had a range of options of desserts to choose from, and I tried their chocolate chip cookie. I thought it was so delicious! Such impressive photogenic sweets!!!! I'm a baker and I know when something is baked well...let me tell you, the Hani's team knows how to bake. Everything that we saw and ate was technically excellent, the platonic ideal of a pastry. And of course, delicious for the taste buds AND the eyes! Seating is a must to enjoy pastries while they're fresh, but it can be difficult to sit down. Get to the shop early to snag guaranteed seating. Delicious menu which has both baked goods and also food for meals like the turkey club (which was good but an even better touch would be if the bacon was just cooked or warm ). The cookie was perfectly dense yet soft and had some sea salt on top but my favorite part was that chocolate was not sweetened- it tasted 100% dark (or at least 75!!). I've only ever had delicious items from here. The maple sea salt latte is worth the wait and traveling to get. The cookie is delicious and you can tell uses quality chocolate. But I love the savory items they have as well. I tried the shakshuka tart and wow. If they have this -- get it. Will be going back here a lot! read more
