This was a date night on the Square before a concert next door at The Strand. We arrived a few minutes ahead of our 6:15 reservation & were seated right away. Kennedy was patient with our 1st visit questions & explaining the specials. We got a couple drinks (reasonably priced at $10-$12 these days) - a whiskey sour for me. Wife didn't love her raspberry caipirinha but I thought it was very good. Main course - scallop special over coconut spinach risotto for me was delicious & wife loved her seared ahi tuna (way too rare for me). One gripe - bathrooms are unisex so the men had apparently made a mess of the one my wife visited, which was gross for her. But everything else was very nice. With the two drinks & two entrees, we were out for $100 + tip. Be aware, menu warns of a splitting charge & there's also the now common 3 1/2% charge for credit card use. We had lunch at L On North. The food and service were good. Not a bad spot on the north side of Marietta Square. According to Marietta.com, the restaurant was originally named "Local on North," but changed to "L On North" to avoid confusion with another Marietta Square restaurant, "The Marietta Local." There are two sister locations in Canton and Duluth, both named "Local on North." I had the following: * Chicken Banh Mi Spring Rolls ($15.95) - Springer Mountain Farms breast, pickled carrots, jicama, sweet chili, jalapeno ranch, micro herbs * Pan-Roasted Grouper ($26) - grouper, yucca pancake, mango and local tomato salsa, jalapeno cream Everything was fresh and tasty and plated nicely. We visited on a Monday and business was unsurprisingly slow. For a place that was dead at the time, the food was still pretty good. Service was great. Our server was friendly. I wish I remembered her name so I could give her a shout-out here. Live music every Thursday-Sunday. I could see this place having a decent bar scene. Dining room is in the back. Atmosphere is casual. You can park for free on the Square, on nearby streets, and in certain lots/decks. Just be sure to pay attention to signs for hours and/or time limits. Definitely on the pricey side but it is on the nicer side (you should dress up a little) and the portions are a good size. We had reservations for 6 at 6 on Saturday night. We were seated right away. My first reaction was "no one is hardly here..." We walked to the back passing the kitchen galley which enables a view of the food being prepared. Nothing amiss or off-putting; seemingly clean and efficient. Always a good thing for a first impression. We were seated and our host took our drink orders and told us the specials. He brought our drinks quickly, took an appetizer order and graciously provided us a few more minutes to peruse the menu. He returned with our appetizers and took our order. Again, we were amazed with the efficiency and flow. Everyone seemed very happy with their food choice. The menu has options for every palate. I ordered the Tuna Ahi Burger & Fries which I enjoyed very much. I am not a fan of wasabi but the wasabi mayo was the perfect accompaniment. The marinated cucumbers provide a fresh & authentic taste. I have never had stone ground mustard (it was on the charcuterie platter) and was pleasantly delighted with the texture and taste versus Dijon which I am accustomed to. At 6:30, it did start getting busy and I now understand why reservations would be necessary. We probably stayed a bit longer than what is deemed acceptable but it was a compliment to the drink, food, service, and overall aesthetic. Stopped in a few days after Christmas right at opening (11am) for brunch with our of town friends whom we see yearly when they visit family for the holidays. They always choose the spot and get the reservation. This is where they chose this year. Though we did have a reservation we did not need one. I'm not sure if that is typical as this was our first time here. We were virtually alone during our meal which was nice. The space is lovely if a little dark and service was good. Quick friendly and attentive without being overbearing. When I say we were there for brunch, I use that term loosely as they do not serve brunch on Saturday, only Sunday which bummed us out honestly. If you are looking for "brunch" menu you will need to dine here on Sunday. We instead order from the normal "lunch" menus. I ordered the soup of the day (tomato basle) which was very good. So yummy, sort of more earthy and almost nutty. It was very good and I would absolutely order again. For my main I ordered the Sweet Thang salad as my body was craving greens after weeks of excess during the holidays season. It was good, not great. A lot of the flavors I was excited about n the description got a little lost. The size was good though-often times salads are too big for my personal taste and you end up leaving a lot. This was the perfect size. I also want to. It's it was a little soggy. This could have been my own fault though as I did let it sit for 5-10 min as our table chatted. It wasn't bad, I just maybe would order something else if we return ever. It wasn't bad just not outstanding either. I did not order a dessert (it was noon-ish when the time came). I did want to order the bread pudding as it's a favorite and just *have* to order it whenever it's an option, but it is a revolving flavor (not just a basic bread pudding) and the flavor on the day I was there was a pineapple which wasn't not appealing to me at the time. The fried chocolate cake sounded really good as well but I just didn't need any more sugar so I skipped it. All in all I have to say I was a little disappointed by not having more traditional "brunch" options as I wasn't really in the mood for a burger or sandwich or normal food and it was a little dark. But they were friendly and knowledgeable. They also didn't hassle us out the door once we had paid so we could sit and chat and catch up so this would be a great spot for a double date or group situation for lunch or dinner. I would return if in the area for sure but I would prefer to come for a dinner as the space feels like a dinner spot. We're not super local (Vinings area) so I'm not sure we'll have an opportunity to bit of one arises I would definitely come back. read more

When I was looking for a restaurant tables and patrons were outside and I saw a server. I just asked, "How's the food, do you recommend this place?" Of course I knew he would say, yes. I followed his advice and was thrilled with the choice! There is a beautiful bar, high top tables, booths, exposed brick and more seating in the back. A trendy place if you need an event location. The food will make you want to brag to your mama! And that will just get you in trouble! lol A couple of items to highlight are drinks - blueberry cosmopolitan, beet salad, ahi tuna and fish tacos! Really, I can't say enough good things about the servers being attentive and the food was delicious and fresh! There were four of us and we all loved our meals! We had a Friday afternoon lunch and enjoyed L on North as usual. The quality of the food is consistently good - we had the blackened grouper sandwich (a special that day) and the salmon burger. The fries were wonderfully hot and freshly cooked. We got a side of the salmon remoulade to dip our fries in - yummy! Every time we eat here, everything's great, food, and service and ambience. We love that is next-door to the Strand theater.

Good: Love that they have live music. Bad: Really NOT good food. My partners steak was tough and over done. My tuna steak was gristly and didn't taste all that fresh. Our waitress was very friendly but overly chatty. Far overpriced, $22 mussels appetizer (menu says $21)- and they were tiny. Worst of all they charge for using credit cards! This place is a great spot! The food is amazing and has a great variety for all kinds of tastebuds. The service is superb! We even went here the night my husband proposed to me on the Marietta Square to celebrate. They have great drinks! Live music on Friday and Saturday nights is awesome! This is almost a staple for us about once a month! The prices are really good for the amount and quality of food you get. I had high hopes for this place given the beautiful ambiance and welcoming service, but unfortunately, the food really missed the mark. The restaurant itself is lovely--chic decor, cozy lighting, and the staff were attentive and friendly. They made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in, which was a great start. However, the food left us disappointed. I ordered a steak, and it arrived undercooked and barely warm. I requested medium-well, but it was closer to rare and had almost no seasoning, making it hard to enjoy. My partner had the crab cakes, and sadly, they were lacking in flavor. They were more breading than crab, and the taste was just...off. It's a shame because everything else about the experience was great, but the main reason we were there--the food--just didn't deliver. Hopefully, they can make some improvements in the kitchen because with good food, it could be a great spot. read more

We haven't been to L on the North in the past few months. The staff is still nice. However, the food was meh. We got the bang bang shrimp because we usually love it. Well, you definitely don't get your bang for your buck. I don't know if they were trying to butterfly the shrimp to look like they have more but it's definitely not worth it. I got the sweet thang salad which I also used to love. I hate nothing more than to have slimy lettuce. Gross. So at the very least and pull that crap out. My husband got the burger. I have no idea what happened to the fried onion pieces but the couple he had in his Burger was disappointing. The fries were still good though and so were the drinks. read more

Went with my bestie on a week night. We have gone to the sister restaurant in Canton, and love it, so we decided to give this one a try. Our waiter was Griffin, and we thought he was great. We got the shrimp tacos, our favorite, and they didn't disappoint. Although we love both restaurants, we like this one better because it seems cozier and not as noisy. Saturday evening I was in a wedding party in the upstairs loft area. Nick was our bartender and server. He was exceptionally courteous and above all efficient. The food served was abundant and delicious. The drinks were delicious also. I highly recommend to anyone that has a small group to reserve the loft area for its privacy and ambiance. Came here for the Thanksgiving fixed menu. Ambiance: Very nice vibe and atmosphere Staff: Extremely kind and attentive staff Drinks: I had a Don Julio Margarita and it was well made. Not too sweet and made authentically (no bottled Margarita Mix). Bartender was very kind and made sure the drink was acceptable Food: There was a fixed menu for Thanksgiving that included 1-starter, 1-main dish, 2-sides, 1-roll for each diner. Literally only 1 roll per person. I asked for more rolls and was told I'd have to pay $6...lol. I ordered the butternut squash bisque for my starter and it was absolutely amazing. Now for the horror story...for the entre' I ordered turkey and had cauliflower and cheese and mashed potatoes as my 2-sides. Sounds simple but easy right??? WRONG!!! They brought out out my plate and there was elementary school Thanksgiving lunch food on my plate. Literally had the school lunch sliced "spam-like" turkey on the plate. It was rubbery and flavorless. I barely ate it. The cauliflower and cheese tasted like they mixed water in the cheese. It was soggy and runny. The whipped butter for the rolls tasted like cake frosting. We asked for regular butter and were told they didn't have any??? Mashed potatoes were blah. For dessert I ordered the cheesecake and it was actually good however the serving size was almost that of a sample at Sam's Club. Overall: Great ambiance, great service, great bar, horrible food. My Suggestion: put more effort into making the food as good as the ambiance. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I paid $180 for 2-people just to leave hungry read more

We had traveled up to Marietta Square for brunch but the place we wanted was closed, so we ended up here. I honestly had no idea that they had another Local on North! Sheesh, these places are becoming local everywhere ... Duluth/Roswell/Canton. I've been to all but the Canton location (Roswell is my favorite, due to outdoor atmosphere). This place is fairly upscale and kind of sets that trend at all locations. Trendy as well. Expect $20/person on the absolute low end. Their brunch menu was amazing, and they do have unlimited mimosas and Bloody Mary's for about $25/person (kinda expensive if you ask me but certainly better than paying $9-$12 per drink). We had a pretty big party and thankfully got a table for us all. Service was excellent here. I got the Breakfast Tacos with charro beans. Geez, I think my taste buds got screwed up from getting Covid bc those things had a kick. Maybe I'm just a weenie now? But they were really good. Loved the beans too. My son had a cheese pizza and he devoured it (sounds familiar, think he devoured the last one he had at the other L On North). Decent beer draft options, although not a lot. I did a Tropicalia and then Wild Leap Blonde in the can. My gf had the Orpheus Sour plus a few bloody Mary's. Wish they would up their draft beer to include a handful more. Overall, a decent brunch spot that has everything to extend your brunch fun. We had a nice 3 hour visit and tipped accordingly. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the flavors and the sauces that they had with both. Came here for dessert on a Friday night. It was poppin with live music and busy (but not overcrowded). Got seated quickly and looked at the dessert options. They had good choices and not the same boring ones you find at most places. Chocolate crème brûlée was divine. We also had bread pudding. For this night the bread pudding was a strawberry cheesecake flavor. That was delicious as well. This was a very quiet place to eat and we didn't have to wait at all We had a four year boy with us and they have an unwritten menu that the waiter will quote to you. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the food. The breakfast tacos were generous I had bang bang shrimp which was very tasty and the spices were spit on. However, the salad had too much dressing for my daughter I would recommend that they serve the salad on the side. The coffee came on little trays with the condiments on the side. I thought this sugars etc were for the table but they were for the individual. We were touring the arts festival and were also hungry, so we were on the lookout for a lunch venue. We came across this place and checked their posted menu on the front door. It seemed acceptable. From a brief look in, there didn't appear to be many tables inside. They had a bar, a few tables, and maybe 3 - 4 additional tables outside on the patio / sidewalk. We opted to venture inside. The hostess greeted us and asked for our party size. We told her '2' and were led around an interim structure to a back dining area which was quite large. There is at least 3 time the front area around back. We took a seat and waited. Aside: I'm not sure what the 'L' in the name implies. If I were the owner, I'd probably have gone for 'L on Wheels' instead, but... Our server showed up shortly. She was nice and guided us through the menu. We ordered a couple of salads and one soup. The soup showed up first (onion) and was quite good, though not something I normally order. The salads came next. These were both the 'sweet thang' variety, one with chicken and one without. We both enjoyed them and finished all of it (though they initially appeared quite big). The server asked if we wanted the check or just to chill a while, which I appreciated. We were seated in front of the kitchen - definitely entertaining to watch the well oiled machine working! The food. We started with the tomato basil soup - very tasty. I got the pork chop with sweet potato purée and broccoli. Everything was fresh, the meat was tender and flavorful, and my taste buds and tummy were happy! My husband got the steak frites. (I snuck a bite and it was quite good!). We ended with our free creme brûlée (for checking in on Yelp). Perfect ending to the meal.
