Stopped in for dinner after reserving a table, but we were the only ones in the restaurant! The cocktails were good. The bartender lights the lavender sprig on fire so that you have the lavender aroma when sipping your drink. For a starter, we split the Mac and Cheese. It was very cheesy, but a little too salty. My husband and I were in Old San Juan in a charming hotel practically across the street from La O. We went in to get a drink and appetizer before a walking tour. The spicy margarita was incredible, truly top notch. We also split the beet hummus and pita which was also very tasty, next we order, due to their recommendation, the vegetarian ravioli.... WOW! The flavors made our mouth sing! We ended up going back a second time because of the amazing service, the drinks and incredible food (also try the mac and cheese) and atmosphere. Garlic shrimp: great presentation, the beet humus pairs well with the garlic from the shrimp, and the pickled tomatoes on the side are a nice way to cleanse the palate. My daughter and I walked in without a reservation and they kindly made room for us. The staff was wonderful. Great food stop in Old San Juan. The menu is vast so should have something for everyone and the price point is super reasonable in comparison with other restaurants in the city. The cocktails were some of our favorites. Unfortunately I think we might have ordered wrong. Everything on the menu looked incredible but We were surprisingly not hungry so ordered a small pizza and pasta knowing they'd heat up well for lunch the next day. The pizza really didn't do much for us, I typically only eat white pizzas but this one left me craving red sauce. The pasta was good though. I'm coming back to San Juan next month and hope to give this place another stop. I'm really optimistic about what they have to offer just the entrees we ordered didn't blow us away. read more

There's something for almost everyone on their menu, from soups and salads to entrees, and tapas to sides, as well as several pizza options. The place is spacious and modern/elegant without pretense. Interesting decor with an Archangel Michael motif alongside other angels, saints, and the like. There's a nice patio area where you can enjoy your meal if that's your choosing. We went for the fried ravioli, red pepper hummus (delicious!), and mashed potatoes and were quite satisfied. Give it a try. Pay Attention to the most recent reviews I ignored them and regret it. Service is the worst of the worst to the tenth power!!!! So I'll start off with saying I was quite excited to eat at this place. My wife and I were in the mood for pizza so we decided to go here after realizing they had gluten free pizza. My wife is sensitive to gluten, the place had a good amount of stars so we figured it was a go. Boy were we wrong. We should have known there was going to be issues in retrospect but hindsight is 20/20 right! So we arrive at the restaurant and should have taken the hint when there was no host or hostess. As we wondered what was going on, a woman that was there when we entered said she had yet to be helped to get sat. The server comes over to her after a few minutes and seats her. He then comes to us and seats us. Second hint we should have taken is that one of the chairs was wet. They have cloth seats so it was impossible to tell it was wet. My wife figured that out once she sat in the seat. Now i want to preface this by saying that my wife and I were both servers so we do our best to be understanding. We always tip well and rarely complain. We can empathize with being "in the weeds" because we have both been there before. We sit and wait, the food runner gave is water which we were grateful for. The server never came back. We sat there for about ten minutes waiting for his return. I finally decided to get his attention, so 8 flagged Him down. He then says "Did you want to order something?" I wanted to reply WTF do you think, but instead I replied "Yes we do want to order something" Now at this point we have been in the restaurant for 15 minutes before he even came over but Im still trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. We order two cocktails, calamari, french fries and two small pizzas. Now we all know we are supposed to get cocktails before our food. That did not happen. We waited about 10-15 minutes and I then asked about the drinks. He says he will check on them. More time passes still no drinks. All of a sudden One of the pizzas shows up to the table. Not the calamari appetizer or the fries, a whole damn pizza shows up. At this point I explain to the food runner that we ordered appetizers and she explains that the kitchen is bogged down and just sending food out. We wait some more. Keep in mind that at no point did the server ever come back. The food runner then brings out the calamari which was not good, and a few minutes later she then brings the second pizza and fries. The fries had something on them, not sure if it was garlic or some type of cheese but I knew I wasn't going to eat either and didn't. Keep in mind WE still have not received our cocktails and our miniature water glasses they gave us are empty and on the edge of the table hoping that someone will see and refill them. We eat. I finish my entire pizza my wife finishes about half of hers and then he comes out with the drinks. I told him I didnt want them because we were finished eating. He said no words, didn't ask why, if there was anything he could do, no apology for the wait, he just walks away. At this point I'm finally getting annoyed because that is just rude and borders disrespect which I do not tolerate. He never came back to the table or even walked past it again. We wait some more because we just want to get the check and dip. I flag the food runner because now I'm about to do my best Karen impression and ask for the manager. She tells me there was NO MANAGER IN THE RESTAURANT TO SPEAK TO. Im like what? Are you serious? Shes like unfortunately yes. So I tell her that I'm going to pay for the two pizzas and nothing more, since I was unable to tell my server since he was MIA. She explains that she's just a food runner and that she will get someone. Minutes pass and the server comes over. This motherf$&@er has the audacity to come over to the table and say something like what do you need. I tell him Im paying for these two pizzas and I'm out because you never came back to know that we didnt want or like the apps that came out after a pizza. And that Im only paying for the two pizzas. He picks up the two apps and walks away. No apology, no nothing, just walked away. I want to say that we have been in Puerto Rico for 7 days at this point and this way by far the worst restaurant we have eaten at. Service was a$$ and the pizza was just ok. This is by far the worst restaurant experience I have had in years. How can a restaurant of this size run with NO MANAGEMENT ON SITE??? Do yourself a favor and save your money and most of all your time. This place will waste both. read more

An Uber driver, PR local, recommended La O. It's a trendy Italian-inspired restaurant in Old SJ. On a Sunday at dinner time, no reservation was needed and the place wasn't busy. We started with cocktails off the specialty menu and went with a two made with local rum. These were probably the high point of our dinner! Very sophisticated drink program!! Onto food: the menu has changed and some of the Yelp recommended dishes have been removed, so heads up to that. For an app, went with the shrimp served on a pita cracker covered with a beet hummus spread. The order came with four sizable shrimp. We were expecting more of a buttery-garlic flavor and the dish could have for sure benefited from a dash of salt. But overall, this small bite appetizer did the trick and paired well with the drinks. Entrees: I chose the seafood risotto. It was cooked pretty perfectly, with a great texture and they didn't skimp on the seafood--octopus, shrimp, scallops and a white fish made it into just about every bite. My partner went with a chicken bacon pizza. The dough was the highlight as they make all their crusts in house. I had one of the slices and had no complaints--it was a good pie, for sure. For the two of us, we spent about $115 after tip. It wasn't a blow your mind, James Beard-worthy, go home and tell everyone about it --type of experience. But we had good food and GREAT drinks, so four stars it is! I may have also had my heart set on an order of that ravioli! Bring that back, it looked amazing!! read more
