This store/restaurant is by far one of Renos hidden treasures. The store has every necessity anyone would need in case of an emergency. Now, their food is the greatest Mexican food in all of Reno! I have tried everything on their menu and everything is finger licking good! The food is authentic, brings back memories from my many trips to Mexico. The Carne Asada tacos are sautéed authentically, and of course you can't have tacos without salsa! Their salsa is the best salsa I've ever had! It's the best in town to say the least. While I was waiting for my food, I was talking too their very friendly employees and they told me that everything on their menu is cooked fresh daily. Nothing Is canned, you could sure taste the freshness, all the way from their rice and beans in their burritos. I would highly recommend the Carne Assad burrito. The food is consistently good but a bit pricey. We normally get menudo, tacos asada or carnita and recently I tried their pupusas. I can say that it's one of the best home-in-the wall, mom and pop Mexican restaurants I've been to and will still continue to go. read more

Not sure how a store can remain open for so long with such horrible service. I had gone in there to purchase $60 worth of carne asada, the older woman (who I imagine to be the owner) was incredibly rude, told me she had it and it would be just a minute, 15 minutes later, a younger gentleman approached me and told me the meat was "frozen", mind you it was late in the afternoon, so I can't figure out why this business wouldn't have meat ready to go? In the end of this experience...it's definitely worth the drive to La Chiquita on Neil rd. Way better meat and always exceptional customer service. read more

I literally just came from this store and this is the first Yelp review I write but I do so because of how bad this place is. So me and my wife go in to get a snack turns out they have a menu that says they serve at least 8 different foods but only actually sell 2 so we decide to buy 2 "EL MEXICANO" smoothies we go to cash out and the young girl working in there whose on her phone was extremely rude ignoring me as I call her for assistance and when giving me my change she throws the coins on the counter along wit the bills. As I drive away I'm drinking my smoothie and it tastes sour and to my surprise they were both expired!!!! One was expired by 4 days and the other by almost 2 months!!!!!! This is a serious health violation in the pictures you will see how they tried erasing the expiration date then covered up with a price sticker. This place is horrible can't believe there still running. health and welfare needs to give them a visit. Now I'm all for supporting Latino communities thriving but this place is not what we need. read more

First off I have to say I have been going to this store for 16 years! The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met! Now to the most important part ... the food... these are hands down my favorite tacos .... the meat is seasoned so well and the tortillas must be dipped in barbacoa or something before the oil and it is just the BEST! I just moved to stead and came across this store. We stop by because we needed salt and did not want to go all the way to the grocery store. However, we ended up getting some tacos. I must say the were DELICIOUS. I grew up eating Mexican food and these are the most authentic tacos we have had in the Reno area. Now my boyfriend and I crave the tacos all the time. I really like the tacos al pastor and my boyfriend likes the tacos de asada. They are both delicious and every time we go the staff is super friendly. Sometimes the wait is a bit long but we understand that they do not have a lot of people working at one time but the tacos are worth the wait. My boyfriend and I avoid the wait by calling in our order. Hope you guys enjoy the tacos as much as we do. read more

This place is like a mini-Mexican Walmart or Target right off of Stead Blvd., they've got just about everything, from merchandise, to accessories, to food, and even dining. A friend and I just happened to be in the area so we stopped by and had a little late afternoon snack from the restaurant; tortilla chips and guacamole. La Barca Mexican Store has the best tasting Mexican food. There are several Mexican restaurants in the North Valleys, but none compare to La Barca. My husband and I have been eating there for a couple of years now, and have never been disappointed. Everything is freshly cooked and very flavorful. Very bad customer service! They don't appreciate you, they just want your money! I picked up a dozen corn tamales ($27). When we warmed them up for dinner they would crumble apart before you could pick it up with the fork. We had just bought a dozen the weekend before and they were really good is why we went back for more. So I said uh oh they forgot to add baking powder to the dough. I thought oh well a bad batch of tamales, it happens. ‍ If I hadn't paid $27 I would've just thrown them out and left it at that, but I paid almost $30. So I called and the lady was upset WITH ME! and told me that I don't know how to heat them up. Long story short she told me to take them back to her and she'd give me my money back. On my way there I felt bad so I decided to tell her that if she had a new batch just to switch them. Well for my surprise, she was waiting for me with a warmed tamale in her hand. ‍She continued saying that I don't know how to heat them up and that she'd heat mine up to prove me wrong. I said "ma'am i grew up making tamales. it's not the warmth, they don't have baking powder. If you have a fresh batch just switch them and keep the money." She no because I can't sell these anymore. So she continued to insist in warming up my tamales when I said just give me my money back. Her son responds "we don't have to give you your money back if we don't want to." My jaw dropped and I looked at the lady and said, "you said you were going to give me my money back is why I'm here." She says "well no I'm not." I said "ok, just keep the tamales and the money and I'll file a complaint with the BBB." They are so rude and don't deserve your business! This grocery store is awesome! My family and I live in Lemmon Valley and love ordering out from La Barca. The freshness and authenticity make this a frequent option for us when we order out. They make delicious food for our four-person family in 15-20 minutes; and, if we call in, there is hardly any wait at all. Yelp suggests that the pricing is $$$, but I would say that it's more like $$. Their homemade salsas have to be one of the very best reasons to visit, but the salsas are matched by the friendliness of the people. It is a family-run business, and, as they have gotten to know me, they treat me like family, too. They now have a printed to-go menu with some great variations on the dishes that they offer. I had the torta enmolada tonight and was impressed even more than usual. And if you're looking for a great dessert item, their strawberries and cream is "serious noms" according to my wife. read more

I couldn't believe how I was treated when I called and made a phone order I was screamed at and accused of calling and hanging up then when the young guy kept screaming I calmly said if u don't want my business I will just hang up. Then about a week later my friend went in for food and was accused of making an order and not showing up which she didnt and was chased in the store by the mom and son and harassed!!!!!!!! These people don't know how to treat customers they need to go to a customer service 101 class!!!!!!! Assholes!! We will never be back along with everyone we know! If you decide to go to this awful place be aware you will be accused of insane things and be treated like a dog! And not a valued customer. I agree with Lucas M. The food is very good, but their customer service and manners, are awful. I used to go to their restaurant at least four times a week, but today was my last day. I had ordered a quesadilla and some tacos to go, and the lady in the back gave me only two small containers of salsa. I asked her for two more, and the lady who filled my order made a note to charge me for the extra two salsas. I got very upset, and told her that I didn't want any of the salsas. Even at the small food trucks their salsa's are left outside so the customers can take as many as they wish. When I went to pay for my food, I told the cashier at the counter that I found their actions in very poor taste, as I am a very frequent customer and I also buy their salsa containers often. Well, the guy told me that there are rules to follow, that they get up very early to prepare their salsa. I reminded him again about how often I went to eat there, how could they be charging me 75 cents for two tiny containers when I pay at an average 12 dollars per visit and 3.50 for their large salsa container? Well, his answer was, "This is a free country and if you don't want to come back, don't." I was appalled by his answer, this was definitely my last time visiting their store. They really need to learn how to treat their customers. If they treat all of their customers like they treated me, for sure they'll be out of business sooner than later. From now on, I'll have "Fuego Habanero" as my first and only choice for fast Mexican food. Their customer service and manners are spotless, and know how to treat their customers with respect. People of La Barca, you should go a couple of times to this food truck located in Cold Springs to learn a thing or two. read more
