Went there for dinner and it must be new owners. NOTHING is the same as before. My son ordered pasta fagioli soup. It was not homemade like it used to be. Canned for sure. The wife and I enjoy their pizza every once in a while and tonight we decided to switch it up a little. The salads were tasty and the bread is good, but our entrees lacked inspiration. I had chicken piccata ($16) which had about 4-5oz of chicken on it, and the sauce resembled a piccata sauce except for the fact that it barely had any lemon or white wine flavor. It was mainly oil and capers. She had the lasagna ($14) which also resembled a lasagna except it was covered in thick slices of partially melted cheese and tasted like its packaged cousins in the freezer aisle. Just ate in La Bella Luna for the first time and had a fabulous experience. We had the chicken piccata and the pasta rustica with sausage. They were both delicious. We finish off our meal with scrumptious Italian ices. The service and friendly staff were wonderful and the atmosphere was casual and warm. They are a true friendly, neighborhood, Italian restaurant, and had many repeat visitors. Many people seemed to know each other. Usually, we have nice experiences at Bella Luna. Today, however, we were not as satisfied. Our waiter kept popping up, making the entire party uncomfortable. In addition, our Cesar salad tasted too watery (down to the dressing), and the pizza had too watered down of a sause and the toppings seemed to just be thrown on top. Let me just say that I haven't had La Bella Luna in over a year until now. We had it so much while my husband and I were dating that we got tired of it a couple years ago. So we've been trying other places. Now that I have had it twice this month I'm convinced that La Bella Luna has the best pizza in town. It's fresh and the cheese taste like cheese and not frozen cardboard. Even when you order by the slice the pizza still tastes fresh. There's something about the pizza dough that I love!! Visited La Bella Luna with a group of friends for lunch last week. We were seated quickly during lunch and our pizzas arrived quickly. We got the Da Meats and Chicken Cacciatore. I've experienced better Italian elsewhere. Honestly they lack flavor and the food usually arrives cold. The only thing I can't complain about was the PIZZA PRIMAVERA. I've only tried their pizza so far ( pepperoni on one occasion, mushroom and spinach last week) and I Have to say that I love how great their sauce is. These are a few of my favorite things there....the staff is JOYFUL. They exude joy. It's obvious they like their job, even the new staff as they come on which is rare because I feel like I've had the same waiters and waitresses for years (another good sign!). The pizza...YUM. My favorite is the hearty Lasagna Pizza. I get sliced meatballs instead of sausage and it's delightful and a meal in itself. The tomato soup.....oh, you must try it! For pasta I get the Gnocchi with onions, artichokes, and sometimes chicken. Want something simple? The cheese ravioli is also delicious. Dessert? The tiramisu is the best! I have dinned in and ordered take out from this restaurant. I work in Baldwin park so their delivery of take out is wonderful. My review is from a vegan perspective, I have severe food allergies. I have called in my order and explained to them my food situation and they filled my order amazingly. I order the pasta caprese. I substitute the cheese with mushrooms, they thinly slice the mushrooms and add the to a garlic, tomato , basil and olive oil mixture. This is a great dish. The vegetables are fresh, the garlic is well cooked and the pasta is great. The staff is friendly and listen well. There were no mix ups during ordering, the food came quickly and was piping hot. The pizza was okay. We had the margherita pizza and a sausage / pepperoni pizza. They pizzas were standard fare and were nothing special. We also had bruschetta as the appetizer. We choose La Bella Luna and it was a very good experience. We selected Chicken Florentine and Chicken Pepperonata extra spicey. The bread was fantastic, the salads were also very good, lots of green lettuce. Both entrees were very good, though the extra spicey on the Chicken Pepperonata was a bit too spicey for my taste. Tonight at Bella Luna was just eh. Not terrible but not great. I came here because I've heard mixed reviews with extreme outcomes: Some people hate it or some rave over it. I myself can take it or leave it. I'll start off with my entrance. Baldwin park doesn't exactly give you a lot of real estate but Bella Luna has made the of the little bit of patio. I wish this was a good thing but I couldn't walk through it to get to the front door without tripping over another chair. Maybe they had a busy afternoon? Maybe they shoved as many seats outside as they could? Once I got inside, I stood there for about 5 minutes without being noticed. Another couple came in after me and then a host came to the front. She asked if the three of us wanted to sit inside or outside. I spoke up and said I was a party of one. She asked if I was dining in. Which confused me. Am I dining in? Um I mean I didn't say I wanted take out? Do solo guest ever come into this establishment? So let's get to the good stuff. My service was great. He was mostly attentive. I mean I rarely waited for anything. And he was nice. He offered a glass of wine I thoroughly enjoyed and didn't seem to mind at all that I was a party of one. The food is where I'm having the most trouble. I stuck to appetizers because I wanted a variety. The bruschetta was nothing to write home about. I've had some amazing bruschetta but this wouldn't even make it in the top 100. It's just plain. But the calamari was wonderful. Tender and crispy. Everything calamari should be. Then the Caesar was just okay. It lacked flavor. The dressing was clearly store bought. They leave olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan on each table. I can only assume it's because you are suppose to season your own dishes. All in all like I said- eh. Will I go back? Great location, great facility's...TERRIBLE management & even worse food. Ordered their chicken Parmesan, it was very very chewy. I'm not sure if there is anything worse then when you go out to eat & receive rubbery chicken. The waitress asked us how the food was & we proceeded to tell here that it was very rubbery. I did not ask for a refund or anything, she then called over the manager & when he came over he proceeded to tell us how there was "no way that chicken could be rubbery, because I just bought it today" it was the most unbelievably horrendous customer service I have ever seen. That man should be fired & not aloud to work in a management position ever again. We politely paid our bill and left...without even eating more than 3 bites of our chicken. It was not worth potentially getting sick. They never offered to make us a new dish or even give us a refund. Instead the manager thought it was more professional to stand there & debate me that the chicken i just chewed was not rubbery it's almost so ridiculous I can't believe it. I will NEVER return to this restaurant after that encounter & I hope you never have the misfortune of eating at this establishment. One star...sad. read more
