We just visited the new location. Food was great. I want to start off with the positive. Food great, drinks amazing! Our server was very friendly, that's after we sat for a while waiting for someone to approach us. It was seat yourself, so I imagine that is the reason we waited for someone to acknowledge us. After she took our drink and appetizer order we waited another 10 minutes to get our chips and salsas. When they arrived of course they were delicious along with the beans. Now that I got that out of the way.. the ambience. We would visit the old location at least 2 to 3 times a month. The patio area was super nice and the Mexican ( Spanish) music set the tone. It made you feel like you were somewhere in Mexico enjoying a delicious meal along with fun music. Yesterday although the patio area was nice I could hear everyone else's conversation, this is very unpleasant. The music changed to some sort of unrecognizable edm jazzy who knows. Please don't forget where you started, don't change the Mexican feel that your restaurant had. And please raise the music just a tad for privacy. VEGETARIAN REVIEW INCLUDED UMMMM 2-4-1 16 ounce margaritas - yes please!!! Like wat? It's so cute in there as well. They have a very nice aesthetically please patio which is covered with heat when it's cold. We started with the nachos - which were so delicious. You can order with chicken or beef. I had the salad tht comes in a taco shell. It was made vegetarian friendly. My sis in law orders the Sonoran hotdog- if you haven't had one it's a huge hotdog bacon wrapped with all the goods honestly. We also ordered the tauritos which is bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and shrimp. Think of it like a jalapeño popper. My boyfriend ordered the mar y Tierra (land and sea) burrito. It's not the menu but they made it anyways (service on point!). It was huge!! And it came with rice and beans on the side. The margaritas let's talk about it....huge and tasty. They have all flavors and are pretty strong. Honestly if you are ever in Tucson try it out. With its recent move to Wetmore Rd, La Botana has upped its game. From its decor to food to service, everything has been improved. They captured the essence of the old place and the menu has been expanded. We've enjoyed their tacos, grilled burritos, combo plates, verde salad and recommend them all. The happy hour guac is tasty and their salsa bar is great with multiple varieties that change often. The overall locale is better and the outdoor patio is quieter being further from the street and out of the afternoon sun. A special note about the service - the servers are friendly, welcoming and attentive. Even when it's been awhile since our last visit, they always recognize us as past customers. I was in town for vacation and I was in the uptown area where this place is and decided to go there for lunch. I do not regret going over there. I sat at the bar and the place was really nice and open and had a decent seating area even for a small restaurant. The servers were very nice, including Mia, who served me my food. I ended up doing the Mini Chimis for an appetizer and then I got the Percheron Burrito with Carne Asada Steak. The food itself was very delicious. They say that they are Sonoran style cuisine and this is my first experience having such a meal. I also like the fact that they give you free chips and bean dip first round of being on the house. Just to note the burrito itself also came with seasoned rice and beans as a side. I will definitely be telling my friends and family that if they ever decide to come down to Tucson to check this place out. It's a small place, but it has big flavor. I ordered the lunch special with barbacoa. It came with a drink and soup. The soup was overcooked macaroni in very salty chicken broth-inedible. The best part of the meal was the cilantro rice. The rest was mediocre. Tea that was not brewed. Barely a quarter cup of meat. The taste was okay. The service was poor. It took a long time to pay because the waitress kept taking care of other people ahead of me. This is one of those traditional Mexican spots that make the Old Pueblo a better place to live. The food is good and the atmosphere works for me. The drinks are quite good sized and excellent. Nothing high class here; just good solid Mexican, which means a bit more cilantro than I like but the staff are accommodating and willing to adjust to my druthers. This is one of those genuine dives that I like to bring visitors to instead of heading for something a bit fancier. It's also helpful that they are right down the street from my mechanic and the place I go for a custom car wash. Don't be put off by the almost totally empty strip mall behind this stand-alone restaurant. In fact, that emptiness is an advantage for guests at La Botana; it means plenty of nearby parking. Went here recently after many years. We always loved the Gobernador (spelling?) tacos. They have changed them. There was too much cheese and too many large Shrimp and too few Poblanos. They really had no taste which is a shame. The staff is great, the ambiance nice but extremely loud to the point that we had to go outside to avoid the overly loud table inside. WOW! This place is a hidden gem. It's tucked away on Wetmore and has some incredible tasting food and drinks. We came in on a Tuesday afternoon and were seated immediately. Our waiter brought out the bean dip which was on the house and served with some very crispy chips. The bean dip is mind blowing! There is a salsa bar at the back of the restaurant and there are a variety of tasty salsas which each have their own unique flavor and vary in spice level. I am a spice lover, and the chili arbol and pineapple habanero salsa definitely hit the spot! I ordered a margarita off the happy hour menu and it was very refreshing and not too sweet. Since it was Tuesday, we went withe Taco Tuesday special, which was a great deal. My husband and I each got three tacos at a very reasonable price, I got Barbacoa shredded beef and he got the chicken Tinga. Meats were cooked very well and topped with fresh veggies. We layered on the complementary bean dip as well as all the salsas and some fresh lime and the tacos tasted absolutely delicious. Ambience is open with lots of natural light and bright colors. Pretty nice Mexican food place. The food was good but nothing exceptional. Service was courteous, but disjointed. It was my friend's birthday and she called ahead to make a reservation and to get a few food platters going before she arrived later. I ask the waiter about this and no one knows anything until he ask who I'm assuming is the manager. We get seated, but no food gets going until she arrives. OK so I can be a weirdo with his friends saying some lady ordered food ahead of time. That's understandable. The server forgets limes for the Mexican beers after several requests among other things like napkins and salsa. I understand staff is hard to find currently and I'm taking that into account. The service did get slightly better as the night wound down. Overall good place for Mexican food with reasonable prices. read more

This time I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the food was though, the chicken had lots of flavor, the rice was fluffy and flavorful as well. The patio area though always loud (as it's a busy intersection corner) is always a good place to sit, bright colors and fun Mexican decor deck the place out. By far my FAVORITE restaurant in Tucson - maybe anywhere. The food is so fresh and taste, the service is excellent, the drinks are even better, and the atmosphere is spot on! I love sitting on the patio listening to Shakira drinking my Uberita - I feel like I'm on vacation when I go there. I always get the grande nachos and they are so good. Highly, highly, highly recommend. The ONLY negative I have is that it's not in a great area due to beggars and homeless people around. Traffic can be loud, but it's not really a big deal.
