I AM THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED. And trust me--that is NOT easy to do these days, especially here in little ol' Tucson! This place is the absolute PINNACLE of Mexican food in Southern Arizona! From the moment we sat down, everything was phenomenal. The food? Incredible. The chips and salsa? Addictively good. The atmosphere? Warm, welcoming, and the perfect setting for an unforgettable meal. I ordered the skirt steak, and it was served on a slab of Himalayan salt! Not only was the presentation jaw-dropping, but the flavor profile was unlike anything I have ever experienced. This is a great little hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot! I had the carne asada street tacos, and they were excellent--loaded with flavorful meat, and I loved having the choice between corn or flour tortillas. We started with the guacamole, which is definitely worth ordering. The service was great, too. The staff was friendly, worked hard, and kept everything moving. Our food came out hot and quickly. My first time trying Toro Bravo after giving them some time to settle in. I agree with many previous reviews that the service is good and staff is friendly and welcoming. However, the food fell way short of okay. I ordered the poblano enchiladas with shredded beef and my wife ordered the rolled tacos. Both nicely presented but once we took our first Bites things started to go down hill. The enchiladas were not hot. The poblano sauce was really sweet. I wasn't expecting sweet. I was expecting savory with a tinge of spice. Salsa verde in the rolled tacos were straight up really tart. I was hungry but politely took the rest of the food home. Service saved you. read more

Food-I got a chicken burrito and my buddy got the 3 enchiladas plate. Mine was meh at best but my buddy was ecstatic about how good his food was. We also got the bacon wrapped jalapeños, they were super tasty. Service-also meh. Had to ask for silverware and napkins. No small plates when the appetizer was served. Had to ask for more salsa and water. Oh and no salt on the table and you have to ask for spoons and knives. Weird. Ambiance-was southern AZ Mexican restaurant standard issue. We had some Friends that we had told how AMAZING this new favorite Mexican Restaurant was that is now open in Vail, AZ. It is a 35 minute drive from Green Valley but worth every mile. They have the best 'homemade' Mexican food in our opinion of all Southern AZ. The dish's are made fresh and are just total 'Flavor-town' in taste. Everything is so, so good! The employees and staff are so friendly and always make sure you have a very pleasant dining experience. Desert was their freshly made ' Churros' that are filled with Carmel and shots of whipped cream! Simply delicious! We have now visited this delicious Mexican restaurant 4 times since their opening and the food is consistently tasty. This last visit we had MIREYA as our server and she was gold standard service and very attentive. This last visit, prompting this updated review was great - I had the Adobado Chicken and my hubs had the Carne Asada. Plates were full and hearty, food vibrant with flavor and we ended up taking enough home for another full meal. We are massive fans of Toro Bravo. read more

Big place! Lots of space if you are dining with a lot of people. Hostess, waitress, servers, manager all nice! My food was good! I ordered the Baja fish tacos. They were fried/battered fish. I asked if the fish could be grilled instead of fried, but was told no. It's more of a preference, but not a deal breaker. Tacos tasted great! If you are not an onion fan, I would recommend asking for light or no onions. I like onions, but there were a lot and they were big slices. My husband got the Queso Birria Tacos. He said they were okay. They had some kind of "cinnamon" spice (unsure what it was) that he wasn't expecting so wasn't a big fan of that, but he still ate it all. We invited our good friends to join us for our anniversary dinner today. Our first visit to Toro and it was great. We were seated right away and our server was very attentive. The interior is huge and very nicely spaced. Our food was good to excellent. One of our friends order the queso Birria tacos, and he said that the meat had a brown sugar taste. Never had that before so wasn't sure about it, but enjoyed the meal. My husband had the Chipotle beef enchiladas and he said he could taste cinnamon in the sauce, so wasn't keen on that. My friend enjoyed her fish tacos, just wished they had a grilled or no fried batter option. I had the shrimp enchiladas and they were delicious. I especially loved the sauce. Ambiance/Cleanliness-painted brick on the inside, warm and welcoming like going to a cowboy cousin house. Everything seemed clean. Im not gunna lie to you the food looks great but the taste is not there. Ive tried this place three times this is how bad i wanted to love them since they are located near my home. The whole concepts are great but does not execute. The beans are way to salty. The corn esquite was so disappointing! The authenticity of the dish was lacking. The corn was from a can added with some salsa. This same green salsa is used in many other dishes making almost everything taste similar and bland. The food here is amazing, service is great and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. I appreciate that they have vegan and vegetarian options: I usually get the veggie fajitas which has lots of vegetables you don't usually get in fajitas - including spinach, corn and mushrooms with the usual pepper and onions. The seasoning is so good. They light the veggies on fire as the serve it which is fun and it sure is hot! The tortillas are great as is the salsa. I ask for no sourcream but invariably theu include it but it is in a separate container so I just remove it and give it to my husband. read more

My husband and I decided to give Toro Bravo a try and we are so glad we did! Everything about our experience was enjoyable. Our server Tania was so nice and attentive and provided great service. We both got steak fajitas and not only were they delicious, the portions were well worth the price, we could have shared one and still left full. We also got the guacamole appetizer and the avocado was fresh and very good. The hosts were very friendly and we got seated very quickly and greeted very shortly after. We arrived early on a weekday for dinner and the parking lot was already really busy. They run Happy Hour from 2:00-4:00 p.m. every Monday through Friday. The restaurant interior is pretty large with multiple rooms, tables, booths, and a bar. The host stand had several people working there and we were seated right away. It did take awhile for our waitress to stop by with waters and to take our order, however she seemed to have quite a few tables assigned. This Mexican restaurant just opened a few weeks ago, so understand they are still working some of the service kinks out. It would great to have the hosts and busboys do water, chips, and salsa refills for the tables to assist the waitstaff, since there seemed to be several of them just walking around or hanging out in groups. I tried the quesa birria tacos, which were very greasy and dripping oil. A friend had the rib eye, which was a thinner cut that continued to cook on the hot rock they serve it on. If you do not remove the steak early on, your steak will become well done quickly. I also tried the spicy cucumber mojito. My first one was great, however the second one I received tasted like straight jalapeño juice. It seems like they need to continue to work on consistency and quality of both drinks and food. read more

I was craving some nachos and realized this New Mexican restaurant opened in Vail. I got the nachos with shredded chicken. The chicken was moist and the flavor was delicious. Everyone from the host to the bar tender were friendly. My parented ordered the carne asada burrito and it was large and flavorful. We'll be back again to try other items on the menu. read more

I'm a native of Tucson and moved to Vail a few years ago. Was excited to see this building get a second chance at life. Toro Bravo did not disappoint. The food was amazing with great flavor from the salsa and chips, guacamole, soup and we were given a sample dish to share, to include meat, chicken and shrimp sautéed in green salsa onion. Saw this open up in vail and had to stop in and try it out. The place is nice and big and lots of staff who are friendly. The menu is lack luster to say the least, if you're looking for traditional Mexican food, burritos, tacos, enchiladas. Then don't come here, they have ruined a so called Mexican menu. Anyhow, we ordered some appetizers and different entrees to try a variety of things. Well let me just say the back wrapped jalapeños are ok but portions are way too small, then the entrees. The beef fajitas, talk about using the low of the low steak to make this, more than half of the meat was nervy and disgusting. The offer no salt and pepper on the table so you have to ask for evening, the seasoning was non existent and well it was the worst fajita we've experienced in Tucson. The biggest surprise was the red enchilada (not on the menu) but I inquired about enchiladas and the server said they have red enchiladas. So I ordered some basic cheese enchiladas; well what I got was some tinga meat rolled inside of a corn tortilla, and the biggest kicker. The enchilada sauce was straight up tomato sauce. It was super disgusting, at first I thought maybe it's me and I had everyone else try it and yup. It was basic tomato sauce they put on enchiladas, what a joke. The only thing that was good was the service from the wait staff and their helpers. Other than that, it was such a horrible experience. We had to go to the at at another restaurant when we left because our food was horrible. Plus,here's the kicker the prices are super high. I'm all for supporting local restaurants but if you're gonna charge these prices you better have some awesome food. The Spanish rice was disgustinf as well. No flavor at all. Too bad this place fell very short and was a place we definitely won't be back to. Such a disappointing experience I wish it would have been at least mediocre but it wasn't even that. Save yourself a trip and eat at Taco Bell, at least that food is edible and that's saying a lot compared to this place. But that's my ugly but honest opinion. Dinner and a show! Group of 4 dining for the first time in this newly opened restaurant. Started dinner with a blood orange margarita which was huge and delicious. Need fajitas came out sizzling and a fluid was added to start a flame on the food. The beef was tender with plenty of veggies and condiments. The tacos gobernador was soooo delicious. The beef was grilled and tender and the shrimp was tender, not at all chewy. Delicious all around. The service was great and the busboys were very attentive to us. read more

Review of Toro Bravo Restaurant, 13 August 2026 Nutshell: Fantastic Service and great food* in an updated and spacious restaurant SERVICE: We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Thursday. The parking lot was about 1/3 filled with cars at that early hour. Despite the fact that another couple that scooted into the front door lobby just ahead of us occupied the greeter, a waiter stepped in and seated us immediately. Chips and dip arrived at our table within 30 seconds of seating. I noticed that was the rule, not the exception. Our waitress arrived at our table within a minute, and she brought ice water with her. Again, I noticed that is what they do for all their customers. She cheerfully and patiently offered to answer our questions about ingredients, etc., but being "experienced" with Mexican food, we ordered quickly. Big mistake. See below. Our waitress had our order back to us quickly. She checked in on us at appropriate intervals, and when we asked for something she was back with it within a minute or two. Other staff came by and offered to bring more chips, more dip, etc., and they filled our water glasses whenever they were getting low without us asking. I think of the above as fantastic service. FOOD: OK. I will admit it. We were hungry and we ordered quickly, and, both of us ordered things we had never had before. My wife ordered enchiladas with mole sauce. She didn't like the cocoa based mole sauce. If you have never had it before, I recommend asking for a taste before ordering. It was not sweet, but the chocolate overtones were not welcomed by my Pilgrim wife in a savory dish. The waitress immediately offered to take it back and bring another dish of my wife's choice. Great! But my Prussian / German heritage farm girl from Indiana would not hear of it. "I ordered it and I will eat it". Yea. Ask our kids about that. I ordered the Molcajete Mixto. It turned out to be chicken strips, steak strips, pepper strips and grilled shrimp arraigned around the edge of a steaming hot black stoneware bowl of what I will call fajita stew. With a whole small grilled onion on top. The "stew" contained everything found in fajitas, cheese, and a savory sauce. I absolutely loved it everything about it. It came with rice and beans and corn tortillas on the side. Despite being hungry, I could not finish half of it. Oh yea, the manager came by and assured my wife that they would happily bring her a different dish, even though she had already consumed more than halve of her meal after scraping off the mole sauce and topping the enchiladas with some of the generous portions of guacamole and sour cream that came with my meal. She declined again. Then we ordered desert. It was single piece of Lemon Tres Leches cake which we took home and split between us. We've had Tres Leches cake several times in the past. The cake was light (not dense), with a light lemon taste. The icing was soft and creamy. The milks were not overly sweet, just enough to give it a moist sweetness without overpowering the lemon taste. It had the best texture / taste combination of any Tres Leches cake we have ever had. While we were eating dinner in the dining room, we watched the staff prepare, table-side, the Mexican Brownie for the guests at the next table over. Great presentation and it looked great. When the bill arrived, we found they had not charged us for the desert, and they said that was on purpose because my wife was not delighted with her entree and they hoped we would come back again. You bet we will. But next time: we will probably split an entree and order our own desert. ;-) read more

So this is the second time we've tried this place. I did a review last time and it was "ok". This time we got take out and it wasn't even edible. The chimichurri steak was so salty we could not eat it. We asked for it to be cooked medium and it was raw. We couldn't even chew it. We also got surf and turf. Unimpressed with the shrimp that did not taste grilled and was covered in seasoning. Then the skirt steak was also not cooked well and could not chew it. Had to spit it out. Beans and rice for both dishes were tasty, but I didn't pay over $60 for dinner for good beans and rice. Most of this meal, the proteins, went into the trash. We got the cheesecake. It was ok outside the half rotten strawberry on top. We gave you a second chance it was worse than the first. We will not try again. I'm going to start off this review by emphasizing that Toro bravo has only been open for a couple of weeks so I'm gonna give them grace and understand that there are things that all new restaurants experience. It also needs to be pointed out that we went on a Thursday at 5:30 and it was pretty busy. This once dusty roadside diner/bar has been renovated into a very nice Mexican steakhouse. We had a group of 4 and waited less than 10 minutes for a table. The host staff were pleasant and extremely friendly. After being seated the server came and took our drink order. A short time after our drinks arrived. The coke products had little carbonation and seemed flat. The ice tea tasted like it may have been sitting all day. Usually because they are making a very large volume for how busy it is, but it loses its flavor. We also had two traditional margaritas on the rocks. You could tell they weren't made from a premix and had good flavor and they were not stingy with the tequila. we ordered the wrapped jalapeño poppers, which were spot on. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be getting these again. For the main course our table got the rolled tacos, carne asada tacos and Molcajete Mixto. There was a little wait on the food but the complementary chips and salsa filled the time we waited. When the food arrived, the presentation was a 10 and the flavor of every dish was worth the wait. Knowing that our server was extremely busy she was great and made frequent stops at our table to refill drinks and check in. For desert we got the caramel stuffed churros which were... Amazing! I was super excited to try this place as their sister restaurant Dos Hermanos in Rita Ranch is so good! I know they are new but unfortunately they have a lot to improve on. I wish they had the same vibe, service, food and ambiance that 2 Hermanos does. The restaurant in itself is pretty bare bones, and I noticed a lot of the benches had holes in them. I guess they recycled the furniture from the last place? We were seated at a bench ( that was not secured to the floor) and it kept moving around. Somebody else was seated behind us, and every time they moved, my husband got pushed into the table. I've seen others commenting about this in reviews, and I also saw that Toro bravo management commented and said they would fix it, but apparently they have not yet. We love Mexican street corn so we ordered the Corn Esquites appetizer. It was a huge disappointment! I would recommend not ordering this. It said it was corn off the cob with sour cream, lime, cotija, chile powder, and cilantro. My husband said that it tasted like canned corn that they literally just dumped into a bowl, and added a few drizzles of sour cream to the top. It had very little flavor and hardly any Cotija cheese. It was super watery. It was definitely not corn off the cob like it was advertised. Also, this appetizer was supposed to come with chips. It didn't come with the extra chips as advertised. Luckily, we had not eaten all of chips they give you when you sit down so we had to use those for the appetizer. He got the chimichurri steak which was not cooked to his specifications. He said it was OK. I got the Poblano Enchiladas, and they were not seasoned. I actually had to ask for salt, which is not on the table?? The chips and salsa were good. Unfortunately, the service was also not amazing. We had to ask for refills and the server was not unfriendly, but was also not warm and inviting like the servers are at Dos Hermanos. It's interesting that these two restaurants are owned by the same people because everything is so different from the vibe to the service to the food. We will definitely go back and give it another try because we know how hard it is to open a new restaurant and we know that they have succeeded with one of their other restaurants. I feel like they should close for a couple of weeks and retrain the staff and redevelop their menu a little. Pros: hostesses were very friendly, and we were seated immediately. We were very excited for a new restaurant in Vail. We went after work (4pm) on Friday and were quite disappointed that Happy Hour is 2-4. Maybe they don't want a happy hour crowd. I would think 3-5 or 4-6 would get more patrons in to enjoy happy hour. We ended up getting an appetizer and splitting fajitas. The presentation and flavor were good however the steak was very tough. We are happy a new sit down restaurant has moved in to the Rincon Valley. Food is very good, though the dishes are a bit pricey. Rice and beans are relatively inexpensive raw materials so it would be nice to have a bit larger portions on the plates. Plenty of of salsa and chips I do hope they do not charge for refills as stated on the menu. We were not charged and that is wonderful. Possibly consider a discount for Veterans.
