The restaurant is so clean and festive and has great little spots for fun pictures. There is a salsa bar where you create your own to add to their amazingly good food. I had the Quesadilla birria and the meat was juicy and spiced just right. Adding my avocado crema and pico de gallo only enhanced the flavors. The service was truly a pleasure- the young lady was great at checking in to see how things tasted and if we needed more and yet, never interrupted. I arrived an hour before closing, there were very slim pickings of the salsa bar. There was nothing to create the amazing pictures on that we see on IG. I ordered birria pozole and I was only able to add some radishes and a few pickled onions. My bowl was 92% birria and 8% hamony. Most wouldn't complain about that part but the variation was way off. It did have decent flavor I will give it that. My waitress lacked confidence in her delivery and minimal customer service. Overall I give this a place a solid 6/10. read more

Well well about time I finally find a bomb ass Mexican spot in Tucson. It's not New Mexican, they don't smother their stuff in green chile. It's simple, traditional, and bomb! I stopped here before heading to a wedding I was working and glad I did cause I'm for sure heading back. It's a chill spot and I think a hidden jewel. The server was super kind and attentive and on top of it all. He recommended some foods for us and they were all top tier. What a great surprise in the middle of Oracle Rd! Really great red salsa, avocado salsa is always a welcomed surprise and free chips that comes with bean dip! All was really good, but the star of the show was the Birria pozolè! So great! And it came with fresh, hot, flour (or corn) tortillas. The posolè had the perfect salt level, with tender, tender, hominy and lean, savory shredded beef. Not hot, but spiced perfect for a guerö (white guy) like me. I wanted some good Mexican food while back home visiting friends in Tucson and i looked through a ton of menus and found Salsa Verde. The menu had something for everyone in our party and had multiple locations. We selected the Oracle one and met up for lunch. Immediately I noticed the salsa bar and got excited. Sadly I forgot about it when my food came but I am sure it is an awesome salsa bar. It looked like it had a great variety. I ordered crunchy tacos. They are kind of my jam. Or tacos dorados as some people call them. Either way, they were delicious! Great flavor on the meat and good ratio of lettuce, cheese and meat. I would get them again. My husband got tamales and sad they were pretty good too. My dad got a giant breakfast. He was overwhelmed but in a good way. Even my step mother who is picky and a vegetarian found something on the menu to her liking and got the avocado toast that was also pretty large. It looks tasty. I ate lunch here by myself on a Monday at 2 p.m. Pretty much had the place to myself. I had a machete ($13.75), which is sort of like a big oblong caramelo. I got mine half pork and half birria. I also got a strawberry horchata ($3.99). There is a salsa and veggie bar, and you get complimentary corn chips with refried bean dip. I liked the pork better than the birria. The strawberry horchata is a great idea; same goes for the bean dip. Table service was prompt and friendly. I will never go back. Taco Tuesday is supposed to be a day where you get a deal on tacos. That is not this place. I bought 9 street tacos for a grand total of $40.92. The ambiance inside is very quiet and quaint and they have a full sit down service. It's nothing like a fast food place at all! The service is very friendly and prompt. They always come by to check on you. The stand out however is the food! So good and prices are reasonable for what you get. They serve complimentary chips with bean dip and there is a salsa bar where you can get whatever salsas you want. For main meals I got a grilled chicken burrito with rice filling and my husband got the 3 small chimichangas enchilada style with shredded beef inside. Everything was so delicious. The food is still good, but the owners decision to try to make this a sit down a serve restaurant blew the vibe of what this place was about. The remodel changed the atmosphere and made the place darker and to me killed the atmosphere. I have you 5 stars in my last review and talked you up, but sad to say your remodel put you in the category of comparing you to higher Mexican restaurants. The servers to the table were slow. Didn't refill drinks, and had to chase down someone to come to table to pay my bill. Where as before I got my good food when you called me and when I wanted a refill I would walk up to counter and get a refill and the place had more light coming in for that open atmosphere. We happened upon this place by chance while I was waiting for new tires to be put on my truck at a nearby tire shop. It's bright and clean inside and the server was very friendly and helpful. Lots of options to choose from. My BF got the breakfast tacos with chorizo. It came with beans and breakfast potatoes that are nice sized chucks cooked with peppers and onions. I chose the build your own plate which lets you pick 4 options. I selected the cheese enchilada, 2 eggs, beans and corn & green chili tamale. The tamale was my favorite. Nice sweet masa with a green chili that provided a good flavor without too much heat which is how I like it for breakfast. The beans could have used a little more salt but that's just my preference. I'm so happy to have Salsa Verde in my hood!! I actually look for escolar's to go to the other one which is almost the border of New Mexico. Hector and all the staff are friendly and make great food. So to be honest I have been here 4 times in 2 weeks even before it was in Yelp. It's my new go to breakfast spot, familiar and clean. I am a sucker for a good salsa bar and Salsa verde delivers.I have a few gripes with the red chili sauce, she was thick and bitter. It was definitely made in-house, and I appreciate that it didn't come from a can. The machete taco was more of a soft cleaver shape than the traditional nearly foot long crispy charred corn tortilla. I give these guys credit -- they're trying. On our most recent visit they'd changed their menu format, and now have a device for running your credit card right at the table. Just like they do in most civilized countries like Canada and in Europe. They're raised their prices, but they've added a complimentary bowl of chips that you can pair with any of the great salsas in the salsa bar. And now you get a little dollop of sour cream and guacamole with your entree. As always, great friendly service. Lots of free parking. We still think if this place looked more like a restaurant and less like a fast food place, they'd have a better dinner trade.
