The torito chile appetizer was stuffed with cheese and shrimp and wrapped in bacon and the shrimp and asada burro was filled with rice, cheese and a pico de gallo. The salsa bar also delivered several types to add your preferred level of spice to your meal. This place is good but, to me, it is a sin to charge for chips in a mexican restaurant! Once you get over that part, however, the food is pretty good! I had the tortilla soup and loved it. It is served with a tortilla to dip in it, and it was the perfect accompanimant. The service was good and the waitresses were friendly with a good sense of humor. I wished it was warmer outside so that we could sit on the beautiful patio, but the inside is nice enough. The chairs are weird though... You'll see what I mean when you go! This is now my go-to spot when I'm craving shrimp tacos, which they call "tacos Gobernador al Ajillo." This is my first time here. I would say the food was very good. Pleasantly surprised. The hot sauce/salsa served with a small side of beans and am chunky salsa. La Botana is becoming a happy hour regular (mostly because of location) and is basically a good choice for that use. I've been there now half a dozen times or so and have never felt totally satisfied. The free first round of chips and salsa is good. Chips are OK as are the three dips--one is bean dip, one is tomatillo(?) and another a pico de Gallo. For free, it's a good deal. I've tried a burrito, fiesta nachos, quesadilla and many margaritas including the famous gigantic 2-for-1's. In fact, left me with quite the hangover, probably because of all the sugar. Idk. I'll definitely be headed back for more happy hours (they have a sweet Yelp checkin offer.) But don't have high expectations for La Botana, just go to enjoy the patio, a beer, and some good company. read more

I think the thing I enjoyed the most about this space was the large outdoor patio--interestingly a rarer commodity than one would think in a city like Tucson! The guacamole was also quite good, and the service was friendly. I ordered the carne asada nachos which unfortunately could have been layered a lil better, because a majority of them quickly turned soggy. The asada was good, but again--it's all about that chip technique! Hands down best local spot in town. Great food, fantastic drink specials and always the best service. We moved inside. 10 minutes later, not one of the three waitresses came to ask what we would like to drink. Felt discriminated against. Why did they not serve us? This is the second time we have visited La Botana and each time was very good. They carry dishes many Mexican restaurants do not, like Zesty Diskada. I've included photos to show you. One of my favorite things is their bean dip..which I could swear has bacon but is vegan. The flavor is simply from the Chipotle chilli. We also tried a build your own burrito with the carnitas and it was awesome. There is always enough to take home after going our bellies. The pico and greensauce are also amazing. My complaints - tad slow on service but very friendly and some things do not come with sour cream or guacamole. Other than that, it is wonderful. read more
