La Boulangerie & Co was a nice little find. We were in the neighborhood craving some French pastries and this spot popped up. It's small, but in a good way. Cute setup, little tables, and that Paris mural on the wall. It totally gives that authentic Parisian feel. Staff was really helpful too, super welcoming. I got the hot chocolate and a Swiss chocolate croissant. The hot chocolate was smooth and really flavorful. Made with steamed milk, so it had that creamy texture right away. Not too sweet, more on the rich side, with a slight bitterness that balanced it out nicely. The croissant though... that was the highlight. Super flaky, layers just falling apart as you bite into it. Light and crispy on the outside, soft inside. The chocolate in the center was slightly melted and it balanced perfectly with the buttery pastry. Every bite had that mix of crunch and softness. Honestly, it took me back to my fall trip to Paris a bit. Just one of those simple, really good moments. I'd definitely come back. read more

The little name and title enticed me to make it a thing on some type of routine basis but...the first time that I visited ( although I've returned several times afterwards) I was received poorly. Meaning, the cashier really had a difficult time with placing pleasantries in their tone. I mean, give me patience for the $8 coffee I want. I show up here because it's decent to look at but don't give me no side eye for wanting oat milk with size 18 hips. I did feel a bit judged for my selection but!!!! The next visits I had were nice, however, what does that do for anyone? You want repeat customers? Remember to be nice the first time you meet one always. I was excited to visit and purchase bakery goods from this bakery since it's opening. My number one items have been the raisin and ham & cheese croissants. Recently, over the past three weeks, I have been greatly disappointed. First, I surprised on at least two occasions that the items presented in the main case were one day old. I only learned that there were I learned right before paying when the clerk hinted I was entitled to a discount. The items should have been labeled "day old" in the case. Second, the ham and cheese croissants barely have any ham and cheese. My best guess would be approximately one ounce of ham (See photo). The amount of ham is circled. Could not taste the cheese, Yet, the sandwich sells for over $5.00. The amount of meat added appears to be reduced so much that it should be sold as a plain croissant. This is not the quality of product sold when they first opened. And not a quality product being priced at approximately $6.00 each. read more

This bakery is so charming inside and full of delicious treats! I tried the pear/almond tart and raspberry mousse cake. I also had a ham and cheese croissant that was pretty good and not too greasy. The pear almond tart was really good. The mousse cake was a bit too gelatinous, but it looked beautiful. The only downside is the cafe is so popular there's no space to sit down unless you arrive very early. read more

Everything here presented beautifully. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by this wonderful display of baked goods. You can even see the bakers working on the croissants. That being said, nothing really stood out which is fine in a suburb but doesn't really cut it when you are a Chicago bakery and your north side location is thriving. I don't really understand the contrast but I can tell you that the spinach in my spinach and feta croissant was scant and not evenly distributed. I enjoyed the tarts but can see them being too tart for some and the quiche was a full miss. It was kinda bland and the cheese was all at the bottom. Also, the floor was a bit on the dirty side. Overall not a horrible time - I would give them a second chance when in need. read more

I really like the bakery items from La Boulangerie - but this is a tough location to operate in just given the general challenges of the neighborhood. I could be mistaken but I felt the prices were also a bit higher here? Generally though, their bakery items are delicious! My best friend was excited to take me to the "cute French cafe" by her place when I visited her this long holiday weekend. I was happy to learn that they open pretty early. I ordered a chocolate croissant, the hazelnut muffin, and a mocha. My friend got the chocolate croissant, spinach feta croissant, and a cappuccino. They had a huge display case filled with pastries and a charming little market corner with international goods. The people behind the register/display were kind and quick to help us. There was also a lot of seating available inside as well as outside. The croissants we got were delicious. They had some unique flavor that elevated them. We were given our pastries immediately, but had to wait to be called for our coffees. For some reason our cups were covered in coffee stains, my friend said this was normal. She adored her cappuccio, I found my mocha to be ok. Unfortunately, the muffin was not for us. It was too dry and flaky and the flavor was a bit off. Overall, I really enjoyed this lovely place and would return. I saw some people working on their laptops and some families enjoying the space. We came here to do 'research' for a church function. We liked the French bakery that was here prior, and felt really bad when they were burglarized, so we wanted to show support. It is not far from where I live, but it's also out of my way, which makes sense hopefully. We got hot tea, decaf americano, ham/cheese croissant, and a raspberry cake tart (it had a nice, fancy name that I forget). The lady behind the counter was friendly and informative. She heated up the croissant as we found seats. We did not stay long as we had errands to run, but there were a lot of seats and tables from the previous cafe. We saw students with laptops on a Saturday morning (now that Starbucks on 55th is carryout only I'm not surprised). Our croissant and the sweet pastry were both SO good. They seem overpriced but were clearly baked with awesome ingredients; could I have gone to other fast coffee places for ham/cheese? Yes, but the Huge puffy flakes were so good, I may be spoiled! We used real dishes and placed them in the tubs marked 'dirty dishes'. I get that they don't have bussers, but trusting people to not leave dishes on the tables seems iffy. They have a wide selection of bakery items to choose from and aecwrasl sandwiches and a coffee menu as well. The staff are very friendly and the food and coffee are great and delicious. read more

I like that this place serves breakfast. I tried their breakfast croissant and my usual chai latte. My partner tried their avocado toast. My mini me had a hot chocolate and a macaroon. Our food was delicious. For some reason, the avocado toast took longer than expected to make and receive. I had finished my breakfast croissant before it arrived. The staff was friendly, they recognized that it was taking a bit longer than usual. They made things right by offering a complimentary muffin. Which was perfect for my mini me who just so happened to be celebrating her birthday. I love this place. The vibes and esthetic is so pretty. It is self-service for smaller items and drinks, and you are expected to bus your tray even if you get a large meal - I do not generally mind this, but at that price point, it is quite jarring. There are Ham & Cheese croissants, Raisin, Pain du Chocolat, and other pastries available daily. Dark Matter brand coffee is brewed frequently, and while seating is a tad limited (it is in a strip mall, though...so) the décor is apropòs for the French thematic elements throughout. Day-old bags (various croissants) frequently available in the later hours. It is wonderful to access French bakery (boulangerie = bakery in French) so close to home. I ordered a takeout for a senior in a nursing home. Hoping this would be better Thant the food she was receiving. I requested a slice of Quiche Forestiere to be warmed. The top of the quiche was quite toasted and the crust way too hard to cut through. The inside flavor very tasty. I let the waiter know I had preordered a slice of quiche to be warmed. He didn't seem to have a clue as to what I was saying. Along came the staff person who took my phone order, whispering in the waiter's ear that someone had preordered a quiche. I acknowledged that it was me. The cashier was nice, but this whole little scene with the staff caught me off guard. I'm not sure about the vibe of the place as I felt rushed to complete my order. Then I get to my destination and find that my order is incomplete. Do they only give the greens offered if you dine in? I usually come here after my long runs for a ham and cheese croissant - can't recommend the croissants highly enough, and the interior and patio area have great seating for people watching and are comfortable! I wish they had a more permanent posting of the menu - on several separate occasions I've been here the menu timing has held up ordering. Today I had the curry chicken sandwich (the only brioche sandwich on the menu) and I'm sad to say that it was a mistake. There is wayyyyy too much ketchup (or similar tasting condiment) on the sandwich, it overpowers the whole thing and makes it pretty unpleasant to eat, which is a bummer since the bun itself was yummy. I'd recommend they go back to the drawing board on this sandwich, but the pastries are yummy! read more

A hot new bakery in Hyde Park, and it is coming in hot. On a Sunday morning the lines of customers were long, but the folks at the counter kept things moving in a friendly but efficient way. We only tried the croissants, of which there were maybe eight varieties (I counted plain, chocolate, almond, cheese, turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, spiral, and spiral raising). But they were great -- flaky, crackly, yummy. (It was so flaky and crackly in fact that my four year old was a little dubious, as it was unlike the mushy croissants that she otherwise new.) Is it possible that this bakery is better than Hyde Park deserves? I will be back to investigate. read more

The atmosphere of this bakery has significantly improved since it's changed owners. They've expanded the seating, both inside and outside and now sell (imported) French foods, too. The croissants LOOK amazing, but alas are not flaky at all. The almond filling was ok, but the inside was leaden and doughy. Not what I'm looking for in a croissant. When I went to inquire because standing near the counter for 15 min wasn't an indication to them, they said "whatever did you order again?" They only then put the quiche in the oven. More time goes by so I asked if they could make it to go and was told by the young lady running the oven "just so you know, our food usually takes time to heat up." I mentioned I am a frequent visitor to the north side location and know this is not true and she said "whatever". I tipped 20% like I always do so I know that's not the issue.
