First time customer but will definitely be back again. Patio was spacious and allowed dogs. The special this weekend is alambre and I can highly recommend it. The dish has steak, chorizo, onions, peppers, zucchini, topped with melted cheese on a sizzling plate served with your choice of two different rices (Mexican or cilantro), three different bean choices (refried, black or pinto), and two different tortilla choices (flour or corn). The alambre was fresh, flavorful, and totally on the mark. The taco trio was an excellent choice to try out a few of their meats and all three were tasty. My wife and always try to shop local here in Folsom. We decided that we would visit La Calle for a taco and a margarita. We ordered two top shelf margaritas. The owner was bartending. We got the first margaritas. They came in a traditional margarita glass. After sipping the margaritas, we realized that the glasses were completely full of ice cubes, so there was probably about 6 ounces of liquid in each glass. The tacos were pretty good. No complaints. The chips and salsa were average. No complaints. My biggest issue was the volume of the margarita. Less ice and more of what we're there for please. My wife and I had one taco each, ala carte and 2 margaritas each. The 4 margaritas were $64...the 2 tacos were $10. We have been there many times, but I think this may have been our last. I ordered a shrimp burrito for $17 that had about four small shrimp in it and all the rest was cabbage , who puts that in there instead of beans and rice in a burrito. Why cabbage what a waste of $16 it was honestly disappointed. And they called themselves authentic Mexican food. I do not think so been to Mexico many times and never had food like that and even here in the US burritos usually have shrimp and rice along with the meat not just cabbage. Hey margarita was just OK again for 1299 I thought it would've been a little better. A lot of it was ice the other three people in my party didn't really have much comment down their food, but kind of disappointing. Mexican food is my jam! Had to try this spot since Yelp showed 4-5 stars. The outside look-and-feel did not match the inside. Maybe it was bigger back in the day? Upon entering, it didn't feel like a restaurant. Cold. More like a night club? Lol idk. Entry is a bit strange and not very welcoming. We weren't sure if you sat yourself or wait to be seated. No host. After seated, we ordered drinks and dinner. Margaritas only come in one size--extra large. And costly. I asked if they could make in a smaller glass. Answer was, that was not how they make them. I am not a fan of this for two reasons: 1) I didn't want that big of a drink! And 2), it just means more ice and mix. I ordered the 3 tacos. The grilled chicken was the best out of the 3. The steak wasn't that great. My boyfriend ordered the flank steak. It was just ok. Chips and salsa. Salsa had no heat. At all. I asked if they had a hotter salsa in the back. The answer was yes. Waitress Came out with more of a sauce than salsa. Which ended up being the sauce for one of my tacos. Overall, Food was just okay but disappointment was how cold it was when served. Staff was friendly. Another FANTASTIC lunch at La Calle after church on Sunday. Their Chicken Verde Enchiladas are "the bomb." And it's so difficult to choose between the cilantro-lime and Spanish rice! Both are so good, I'm frequently tempted to order both :-) The servings are generous - I usually ask for a box, take half of my platter home, and have lunch the next day! What's not to like about that? This is a family-owned restaurant, and they treat you so well. We went with my husband's mother and his sister and brother-in-law not long ago, and the restaurant owners and staff were so attentive - without being intrusive - and helpful. COVID-19 Alert This review is not based on the quality or taste of the food. This is solely based on our experience tonight and lack of service.. We entered this restaurant expecting to dine in at a Mexican restaurant that we have never tried before. We were greeted at the front door by numerous signs detailing the COVID-19 safety requirements (social distancing, increased cleaning etc..) We were the only customers waiting to be seated and the restaurant had plenty of open tables in the indoor and outdoor dining area. After a 5 minute wait the senior waitress (manager maybe) came by and told us she would seat us right away. She then left and never came back. She walked by a couple times and looked at us but never came back to seat us. While we were waiting to NOT be seated...we had a chance to watch the employees. In addition to the manager, there were two young ladies and a young man working the floor and one middle aged server working the bar. Here is what we witnessed. NO EMPLOYEE WAS WEARING FACE MASK OR GLOVES! I witnessed the bar tender make a drink mix in a jug, transfer the mixture using a cup into squirt bottles. His hands were in the jug (drink mix) and he hand no gloves. I witnessed the same bartender make 4 drinks and when he put the straws into the drinks. As he placed the straws in the drinks, he had his finger on the end of the straws where you would sip from. Anything on his hands are now in the mouths of the patrons. I witnessed a young waitress bring a combo plate to her table and while holding the plate, her thumb was in the sides. She had no gloves on. I witnessed a male server taking an order without a face mask or gloves. What's interesting is that there was a stack of gloves in boxes next to the bar. They just aren't wearing them. The restaurant was dirty with several tables filled with dishes and utensils. During normal times I could ignore these issues and just critique the food, however these are COVID-19 times and customers are hesitant to return to restaurants. Restaurants bare the responsibility to reopen, with compliance to county and state guidelines. They also must be responsible for minimizing the risk of COVID-19 by executing basic hygienic protocols. This res After waiting for 20 minutes we decided to leave. What is clear about this location is that they are not prepared to reopen and should not be opened. There was no organization, no hostess to manage incoming guests, no safety protocol, and I would not recommend this location to any customer that wants to begin the transition to normal dining activities. After posting my review...the owner replied in total denial so I want to provide more details and reply to the owners comments... First of all NO, NO and NO. If you read my reviews you will notice I typically give restaurants 4 and 5 stars. Very seldom do I give low ratings and reading my reviews I never allow wait times to impact my ratings. If I give 1 Star there is an issue. My issue with your restaurant is not wait time..it's safety and cleanliness. 1. You did NOT have a full restaurant. You had 2 tables inside, 2 tables outside and one table at the bar being used. Since we were the ONLY customers waiting...your comments about being busy are so misleading. You were so busy that you had 1 customer waiting to be seated at 7pm on a Saturday night?!?! 2. The health inspector passing your restaurant on June 5 has NOTHING to do with your staffs current ability to execute cleanliness guidelines. The images I provided are still shots from the VIDEOS that I took. There is zero exaggeration of your unsafe practices. 3. Your comment that your bartender transferring the drink mixture using a funnel, directly contradicts my video showing him put his hands in the jug using a cup to pull the mixture out. 4. Did you just say the bar tender tried the drinks to make sure they were sweet?!?! My VIDEO shows him placing straws in 3 separate drinks with his fingers on the straws and then your servers taking the drinks to the customers. He did not change straws....Are you kidding? Finally all you had to say was your team had a bad day and you will try to do better. Instead you went total denial, made false excuses, and accepted zero responsibility. If I had the ability to load my videos on Yelp I would, and your reply would be available for future customers to see. This place looks really good on paper but it was quite a disappointment. If you want Birria tacos which is what we got I would not come here for it I would go to Salsa's they're bigger and packed with way more flavor. We also got the ceviche and that was a huge disappointment absolutely no flavor if you want good ceviche I will go to Zocalo on happy hour cheaper and extremely delicious and high-end flavor here at this place the ceviche taste like it came out of a fucking container no love no flavor. We also got the churro doughnut and that was a really big disappointment the photos that I saw online it all looked really big and it came out looking very small and it also tasted like soap not sweet not sugary very bland. 2nd visit-last visit. We ordered our burritos and by the time we were finished placing the order we said that we had no idea what we we're actually going to get. The only special request was sour cream on the side from one of the three of us. No surprise that I ended up with a carnitas burrito Instead of the carne asada burrito that I ordered but whatever. Carnitas was dry and burrito was flavorless. Burritos were barely warm. Cold, actually! Asked twice for salsa-waiter didn't ask if we wanted more chips. Asked for water-never got water. Had to literally yell two separate times to get our waiters attention so I could get the bill. Ridiculous. This was not due to the restaurant being full or lack of employees. For dessert the churro donut which was a must have. The margaritas were amazing. All the drinks and food were super fresh and made to order, including the homemade guacamole. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
