For the price, we had a good lunch here. We were going to Costco and the restaurant was nearby. The place was fairly empty. A couple at the bar and another couple dining. The restaurant is huge. There's a band stand and a large open area (for dancing) plus booths and tables. In the front room, there's a large bar. They gave us menus and after I asked, we got the specials and lunch menu. We both decided to get the lunch fajitas. The fajitas could have been steak or chicken, but we both chose steak. Along with the sliced steak came some grilled onions and peppers, a bit of salad topped with sour cream, yellow rice, and refried beans. A soda was also included for the price. The steak was decent, and there was certainly a lot of food on the plate. Well worth the low lunch price. We finally decided to try La Cantinita and all I can say is... what took us so long?! After being open for nearly two years, we finally stopped in on a Friday night, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the live mariachi singer was absolutely fantastic, he really made the evening special. The service was outstanding from start to finish. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, and both of our meals were packed with flavor. I ordered the chicken fajitas, and my husband had the pollo asado. Both were excellent! We had such a wonderful experience. La Cantinita has definitely earned a spot in our regular restaurant rotation. If you're looking for great Mexican food, outstanding service, and a fun atmosphere, I highly recommend checking them out...especially on a Friday night when the mariachi singer is there. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest time, so when my friend asked me to pick the location for our Sunday lunch date, I jumped at the chance to throw La Cantinita into the chat. My friend had eaten there before, so she suggested sitting at the bar due to experiencing really slow service during her last visit. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't too busy, with a handful of additional people at the bar and a few tables filled with guests. There are a ton of options on the cocktail menu, so after a long deliberation, I decided on the margarita flight. I must say, the presentation is 10/10. Some flavors I enjoyed more than others, and it's not something I would order every visit, but realistically, for the price, it's a good value. Service was indeed slow, even at the bar. I did have to repeat my order several times, so I do believe the staff may be a little new to food service in general. There were a lot of staff working in the main dining room for it to have been so slow. As for the food, I was significantly overwhelmed by all the options on the menu. I decided to go with the elotes off the cob and the empanada flight (steak, chicken and buffalo chicken). The empanada flight was so delicious! I could only finish two of the three, but I thoroughly enjoyed the third one today at work. They weren't only crispy, but the filling was flavorful, and the portion size was great. The elotes were yummy as well. I had enough to take home and finish with my last empanada. Definitely two items I would re-order on another visit. Overall, the service was friendly. We were asked to take a picture, and my friend and I agreed, laughing about possibly ending up on their IG page. Not the best start when we walked in and no one greeted us. We were asked if we had a reservation to a pretty empty room. Once we were seated someone brought out chips and salsa. She was very welcoming. Our server, a younger girl was just not with the vibe as she too didn't speak when she approached us just asked for our drink choices. Everything started off well, but the experience quickly went downhill once the food came out. Front ladies at desk was great and kind & the decor of the restaurant was beautiful I will add. BUT, My husband was very clear with the waitress about not wanting certain items on his order, but his request wasn't followed and we had to send the plate back. Unfortunately, this created an uncomfortable tension at the table. The food itself was just okay--not terrible, but definitely not worth the nearly $70 bill for two adult meals and one kids' meal. On top of that, we were surprised to see a 20% automatic gratuity added to both checks, especially considering there were only four adult meals and two kids' meals total. What made the visit particularly disappointing was the service. While we were still chatting with our friends, maybe 30 mins in, a staff member began cleaning the table right in front of us, blocking our view and repeatedly interrupting with questions like "Are you done with this plate?" It felt very rushed and unwelcoming. Moments later, our waitress returned asking, "Check?" and then "Dessert?"--but by then, we laughed because we thought "are we even allowed dessert?" we honestly felt like we weren't wanted there. I've never experienced such poor service in this way before. Sadly, the combination of average food, the unnecessary automatic tipping, and the rushed, unfriendly service means I won't be returning. I asked for a mild hot sauce (I'm great with mild and medium) but this was excessively hot to the point that it had no flavor just straight insane burn. My tongue and lips were literally numb. When you walk in the decor is fantastic. Really loved the vibe and all the photo opportunities. The waitress was polite and attentive. The food was delicious. I personally ate the steak tacos and they were fabulous. My two complaints are 1. We were a party of 4 with a newborn and got charged a large party tip. We weren't even a party and would have tipped what she had put on the bill, but it's the fact that it was added for 4 people. My 2nd complaint is the amount of time it took for the food to come out. It took 1 hour and there were only two tables in the restaurant when we sat down. That is a concern if they are busy how much longer would the wait for food be? It used to be such a fun place to go for drinks and food, but now, maybe since they changed management or something, we had the slowest service. Not only that, but our chicken came out raw in one order, they messed up the second order, and they charged us a dollar for hot sauce, which was basically just water and seeds. My party had 9 and they will write up to 6 separate checks. For that reason alone I doubt we'll be back. It's loud so conversation is not so easy. The chair backs are round, the kind you can't hang anything on. 9 women carrying bags need somewhere to put them. Some in the group have food sensitivities to milk and cheese, wheat. There's 1 or 2 items without cheese. All have option for flour or corn tortillas but the person bringing food out doesn't know the difference between flour and corn and says there is only flour. They're not. At least 3 of us thought the food was very dry and don't want to go back. I even added a bowl of salsa to mine to no avail, still dry meat. The salsa has no heat whatsoever but the chips were good and crisp. 20% tip was automatically added to each of the 6 checks. Glad we looked and noticed. Waitstaff speaks little English. Took 3 requests for one of our people to get more water. I did not take any photos. read more

Had a really good experience here overall. The restaurant itself is spacious and has some beautiful artwork throughout, which gave the place a great vibe and made it comfortable for our large group. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the music -- it felt a little too loud and intense at times. They got creative with the drinks and the bartender mixed it well. Food: The food menu is very extensive from appetizers, to tacos, quesadillas and burgers. There seems to be something for everyone. I give this place less than 1 year to close down First the good thing - the margarita. It was good but expected for a $25 margarita. The food - horrible. I ordered steak nachos and the steak was cold and tasted like it was cooked days ago. Gross. The shrimp quesadilla - also gross. The shrimp tasted like rubber and tasteless. I don't know how they prep the food but I have a feeling days in advance. I asked for hot sauce and they don't have it. Only rojo sauce and it's an up charge. My husband and I stopped by with another couple for lunch. This was our very first time visiting since the placed opened. It looks great inside, very nicely decorated with wonderful music playing. We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. While the restaurant wasn't busy, the service was unusually slow, and it took a long time for everything to come out. We assumed they may have been short-staffed, but the delays were still noticeable. We also brought our own birthday cake. The staff took it to the back to cut, but the slices served at the table were extremely small. Later, the waiter mentioned there was only a small piece left to take home. Knowing I ordered a larger cake specifically to have leftovers, it was clear the amount remaining didn't match what had been served, which was disappointing. The jury is still out on La Cantinita. It's a great Mexican restaurant concept located in the Southern Palms Plaza that's a heavily trafficked area with such stores and fast casual locations as Costco, HomeGoods, Panera Bread, and Starbucks amongst others. They have a great bar area with decently made drinks -- the gin and tonics are dependable and I dig their tequila-based drinks. The ambiance is a combination of vibrant colors, neon lights, an Instagram ready setting with a swing and grassy backdrop by the front entrance. However, the food leaves a bit to be desired. Granted, they just recently opened so there may be some kinks to iron out but to have an item like the pork belly bites that were so overcooked to where they were hard as rocks. One of my friends thought she was going to crack her teeth. For a dish as alluring as pork belly, that's a big no-no to have it come out some unappetizing. While the carnitas tacos were better and had a nice savoriness to them, I didn't think they were anything to write home about. Additionally, it wasn't clear how to access the menus since there didn't seem to be any hard copies of them around, and you were basically expected to look on the website through your phone to review and place your order, which was weird, since this is not Taco Bell or Shake Shack. Hopefully, they can make the adjustments. I would love to come back and try them again since they are in a great location and I like the interior and the bar layout. La Cantinita in Royal Palm Beach has the aesthetic of a place that wants to be great. The wall art is vibrant, the music sets a lively tone, and walking in you genuinely expect a solid, flavorful experience. Unfortunately, the food and service did not live up to the promise of the atmosphere. My wife ordered a frozen strawberry margarita and it arrived on the rocks. Rather than send it back, she decided to just drink it, and that is where things started to unravel. What should have been a simple correction became the beginning of a series of disappointments. We started with the street corn. It was decent in flavor, but it inexplicably came topped with lettuce. Warm lettuce mixed into hot corn creates a strange, soggy texture that throws off the entire bite. It is a small detail, but one that signals a lack of thought in execution. It was Taco Tuesday, with a special of two tacos for 6.99. The waitress upsold us, warning that the tacos were very small. We agreed and ordered two plates. In the end, the size was not the issue. The problem was quality. The tacos were extremely overcooked and lacked any real flavor distinction. They were simply nothing special, and for a place that leans into Mexican street food vibes, that is a major miss. We also ordered a side of plantains, which arrived drenched in crema and cotija cheese. There was far more sour cream and cheese than plantains. Instead of complementing the sweetness, it completely overpowered it. Balance is everything in Latin cuisine, and this dish had none. The final frustration came with the bill. The specials board advertised margaritas at 5.99 with an additional dollar for flavor. However, we were charged 17 dollars for the margarita. When we questioned it, the waitress explained that it was due to house liquor. That should have been communicated upfront. Transparency matters, especially when pricing differs so drastically from what is advertised. In total, about 80 dollars for two taco plates, one margarita, street corn, and a side of plantains simply did not feel justified. The atmosphere was decent, but service missteps and subpar food quality ultimately killed the vibe. I say this honestly, and as someone who appreciates Hispanic cuisine deeply, I would not recommend La Cantinita. It looked promising, but the overall experience was underwhelming and not worth a return visit. read more
