Many years ago we lived in Cypress, adjacent to the La Palma location of La Capilla. After moving away for 20+ years to live in Costa Mesa, we only recently moved to Huntington Beach and became aware of the HB location near us. We've again become huge fans and regular diners at this spot. First, although the building has been there for a really long time, the place is very well maintained and, unlike some unfortunate cases where the food might good but a restaurant seems a little less than clean, La Capilla is VERY clean and pleasant. A big plus for us. If what you can see is not good or clean, you can only imagine what might be unseen. No such worries here. The menu is large and varied. The portions are extremely generous. We always plan on takeaway leftovers for a righteous next-day lunch. We've never had a bad thing on menu. They serve flour tortilla chips (in addition to your just-sat-down basket of corn chips and salsa) with the guacamole and queso. Delish. Again, lots of starters (many of which could be an entrée for some), combos, burritos, etc. Also, a varied menu of margaritas and other delights from the bar if you roll that way. The service is always friendly and attentive. I'm a large-mug, several-refills Diet Coke guy and they gladly and regularly keep 'em coming until I get my fill. Really nice of them. So, La Capilla HB is highly recommended on all counts ... and while no decent restaurant is what we might call a "bargain" these days, the prices are quite reasonable for the present time ... and that next-day-lunch makes it an even a better value. I've been going to the La Palma location my entire life since my parents live close. My wife and I decided to check out the HB location. Plenty of parking and the interior is really beautiful. This location has a more refreshing interior compared to the dingy La Palma location. The menu here has a lot more selection too which was a nice surprise. Food wise was 100% identical. I really loved my Pollo Especial paired with a delicious margarita. My only complaint was our waiter. The older gentleman was really bad. He never said a word, just scowled. Didn't bring things we asked for either. Everyone else though was really friendly so hopefully he was having a bad day. Been a long time since I left a small tip. read more

Last review I did for this place was quite some time ago. I gave it a 3 because of poorly trimmed and prepared carnitas on a nachos dish. We went back a week or so ago and had a 5-star experience. The rooms are always nicely kept and the atmosphere is pleasant. The seats in our booth felt kind of collapsed. The table was almost up to our shoulders, but we managed just fine. She got taquitos a la carte. I got Tacos Mexicano (carnitas) and a Corona. All was very tasty, served quickly and hot. The rice and beans were nicely prepared and tasty. We went with a crowd for dinner and the football game on Monday night. The parking is free and easy, the restaurant was not at all crowded. The service in the bar was good, the beer was cold and the food is pretty darn good. The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. Everyone enjoyed their meal and it was an easy walk home for us. The Perfect Spot for Small Gatherings! We recently had our small wedding reception here in the gorgeous Ballroom, and it was awesome. We had about 45 people, and the room was the perfect size. It felt personal and just right--not too big, not too small. If you need a spot for a party, milestone birthday, or small wedding under 45 guests, this is definitely the place. The service was super friendly from start to finish. The food was amazing--everyone talked about how good it was--and the drinks came fast all night. No one had an empty glass. The staff really care, and they made the whole night so easy for us. I give this restaurant 5 stars. Each time I have come here the food and service have exceeded my expectations and it's so hard to believe that this unique and spacious restaurant isn't packed, on each of my visits there have been very little customers. In any case, my daughter and I came here during lunch time, about 12:45. Chips and salsa are served on the house and they have the best salsa here. We were waited in by a very friendly and efficient gentleman and in no more than 10 or so minutes, we received our food. My daughter ordered the fajitas and I ordered the one taco platter, a special that day. The fajitas came out on a large platter, meaty and sizzling with another large plate full of eats, containing delicious and authentic rice& beans, with hot sauce and guacamole. I am amazed at this place. With the food, service, and restaurant itself, it's hard to believe that people are not packed in here with a wait to be seated! Not only is the food delicious but the price is right. This is a gem if one was to want a restaurant spot for business networking or a large gathering. It is huge, and is sectioned off with a bar and larger party, possibly private or banquet dining on one side and tons of seating elsewhere as well. I attached a video of the entire restaurant so one can get an idea of what the options are. I'd love to see it get more biz, it's so hard for old school businesses nowadays w/ economy and competition. It also has a cool patio area for dining but it had just rained not long before we came by. This reminds me of a large home that may have been converted into a restaurant back in the day. My husband and I love this restaurant. We eat here almost weekly. I love the Margaritas and most the cocktails. They are always kind and accommodating to my picky niece. I love the bar or out side most. We eat in all rooms and every one has something to offer. Outside had a gorgeous fire pit for a fun outdoor vibe. The bar is great. Big table cute low lights on the table. The main restaurant is a nice quite well lite room. I the it for when we have bigger parties. Their time works so well together and do they best to get you things quickly. They are sweet everyone is smiling and even when some customers are rude they always take it with grace. We spend a lot of time here and I would recommend. My kid ask for a kids hamburgers from here for his birthday. Desserts are next level. read more

Not available when we needed service. He was always in a rush. Drinks: The margaritas we ordered were of poor quality. Sent one back and was still charged for it. Food: Fajitas were burnt and stuck to the skillet. No flavor besides burned taste. Poor quality meats. I would not recommend anyone visit this place. We had chicken tacos and enchiladas and the chicken was not shredded at all, it was huge chunks of chicken and no flavor, the taco shell was soggy. La refescante (drink with raspberry and Chopin vodka) was perfect. My partners Paloma was good. Our food was mediocre. The fajitas come with a lot of chicken and peppers and onions but the guac and pico tasted off. The rice was good (per my partner and son) and the beans were ok minus the enormous amount of shredded cheese on top (I can't eat that so didn't get many beans since I forgot to say no cheese). Corn Tortillas were good. My husband had the chile verde and said it was lacking flavor. Atmosphere is nice. They had a nice high chair for our son. Service was good overall. Finally got a chance to try this restaurant, I ordered a basic and cheese, enchilada, rice, and bean plate, it was pretty good slightly salty. I don't think I could order that again.. we also ordered a chili relleno plate which was also a little salty. I think the restaurant needs to change the type of cheese they're using. read more

We came as a group of about 8 for happy hour. the server was fine- not the problem. The food was Walmart frozen section. the advertised tequila was Cuervo Gold, which was considered "the" tequila in 1975 but is rotgut. All the food seemed to be brought in or frozen- nothing was original or at all special. prices were very high for the quality as a jack and coke was 14 dollars. This is an antiquated restaurant with no redeeming values gastronomically or value wise. I hate to dump on a family owned non- chain place but Rubio's is light years better. read more

This place is so close to my house but I had never been until recently. Decided to walk there, but it was a mistake on a hot day. The server was super nice and funny and joked around about us looking pretty sweaty, then got us some cold drinks. I must say... I LOVE tamales, and enjoy them every chance I get. And this was probably the best tamale I've ever had. It was so soft and moist, and the beef had so much flavor. They make it in house. The enchilada was really good as well, but I can't get over that tamale. My partner didn't enjoy his food as much but did share a similar sentiment when he tried my food. I did mention previously, but staff was really nice and attentive. He was friendly and cracked jokes with us. It wasn't busy at all, though, we may have come during off hours. The ambiance was really nice. I love the way the restaurant is set up with a little outdoor area in the middle, I can see it being super fun to go to with friends to drink, eat, and chat. Walked in at 3:03 pm to a completely empy restaurant. We were seated by the host/waiter/manager and asked for the lunch special menu. He said "you're late, it ended at 3:00 p.m." You gotta be kidding? Seriously? They lost a table of customers over being sticklers for 3 minutes - and have no customers, once again an empty restaurant, perhaps that is what they prefer? We left and enjoyed a delicious meal at their competitor down the street. Now we know why it was empty. read more

My family flew in from Texas and we were so disappointed!! If you happen to go to this location DO NOT SIT IN ELEAZAR SECTION. He's terrible. He came to our table once and that was to take our order, and rudely. He acted like we were a problem. He never came to check on us, he would walk right by us. NOT ONE WORD. No extra napkins, nothing. My water had something floating in it and I couldn't even get a new glass since he never came to ask us anything. My Aunt asked if they had Taco Salad and was told no they don't but upon leaving the restaurant we saw another table with a bloody Taco Salad. Learn your menu buddy. So sad!! I rarely leave a negative review. Something has to be really bad before I actually do. The chicken fajitas were awful. Just inedible. I've never had bad fajitas before as it's a simple dish that is impossible to screw up...until now. Terrible flavor, not too spicy or not spicy enough, just gross. So I tried their refried beans. Another basic. How the hell can you make these bad? Apparently they figured out a way. The supplied tortillas were old, crumbly and microscopic. Plus only three 3" tortillas for an entire plate of fajitas? Why be stingy with tortillas? Especially when they are severely undersized. Strangely the guacamole was ok. Salsa was ok as well, but even the grocery store salsa is on par. My wife had their chicken tostada. Couldn't eat more than a few bites. I never throw food away, as it's a sin. I can usually repurpose at home and save some or most (like the meats) and put into a burrito or tacos. Not this stuff. I washed the chicken pieces and fed them to our neighborhood stray kitty. He DID like the chicken, but everything else went straight to the garbage. read more

La Capilla is one of our favorites, we have been coming here for years! The service is always top notch, margaritas are huge, fajitas are sizzling and delicious loaded with grilled chicken and steak, the Albondigas soup is so flavorful with meatballs and tasty vegetables, and the Chicken California (grilled chicken with avocado and cheese) is one of my go-to's. I love the outdoor seating next to the fire pit in the summer and enjoy the inside of the restaurant not being too loud. Definitely add La Capilla to your list of places to try! read more

All time great classic. If you are a Mexican food buff, you already know that there are several different styles of Mexican cuisine. My favorite of all is Sonoran style Mexican cuisine. I'm sure that each time I enjoy a meal I may loose two to three minutes off of my life due to the salt, lard and excess fats but I believe that I gain 2 to 3 days of life from having a great experience. Okay I'm done ranting Let's get down to business. Chips and salsa game is a 6 out of 10 Speed of service is a 8 out of 10 Cleanliness is a 9 out of 10. They had a nice bathroom remodel. And it's really nice. They also added new flooring. Cocktail is a 5 out of 10. Don't get the million dollar margarita. It's $32 and not disclosed. I had two and the Beverage was average. Just go with the Caddy. Food temp is 10 out of 10 Flavor is good, 9 out of 10. I enjoyed the Chile Verde burrito. This burrito was absolutely delicious and fire! You could taste the slow stew pork with all the flavors of the tomatillos. Coming from NorCal I must say that I was reminded how bland our food is back home. ( for the most part ) Prices were fair.
