My absolute favorite Mexican food in San Antonio. The quesadillas are stuffed with picadillo and fried, then topped with queso. Not your typical quesadilla, so much better. Every time I visit San Antonio I make sure to stop at La Cazadora. It has all the unique Tex-mex favorites that San Antonio is know for like puffy tacos, chalupas and carne guisada. The mole is delicious as well as their chips, salsa and queso. It's also a truly family owned and operated business with a friendly, cozy atmosphere. My grandparents lived directly behind their restaurant. Their food hasn't changed since I was a young boy and everytime I go home I make sure to eat there. They have the best salsa, puffy tacos,enchiladas and nachos. So many memories with my family there. read more

Best Mexican food around! The negative review here is totally out of touch. I've been going to La Casadora for some 35 years and have never gotten less that a wonderful meal. They serve the best enchiladas I have ever eaten. The service is friendly and fast and the food is fresh made, hot and wonderful. The chips and salsa served as an appetizer are excellent, and the beans and rice which are served with most meals are excellent as well. The same family and location for 35+ years. I'm pretty stingy with my 5 star ratings but this place just made me and my belly feel good! I have lived in SA for a long time and regrettably I had never tried this place till today. The service was very nice and attentive. You can tell those people have worked hard over all these years and take pride in their restaurant and what they do. I had the Cazadora plate and it was delicious! Some of the best enchiladas I've ever had. Im so glad I now have a new fave Mexican restaurant as my other go-tos have been less then impressive lately. the price is ok but definatly lacks quality. The food is... I didnt like it. It taste processed. The tortillas are store bought poor quality. nasty tasting. The beef in the puffy tacos did not taste like beef. The food was a bit salty. They only have refried beans..probably from a can. I can say I wont be going back. read more

My family and I have have been eating at this neighborhood family-owned restaurant for as long as I can remember. This food is great, unlike any other Tex-Mex place in San Antonio. My husband came here when we first married and was hooked. We eat here at least once a week when we are in town and often, take food home for the next day. The salsa is really hot and spicy, which we truly enjoy. Much hotter than anything else we've ever tried, yet my husband eats it with a spoon. He can't get enough and will be ever so upset when he finds out I reviewed "our place". The chicken mole is the best we have ever had, anywhere in the world. Super tortillas, too. My father-in-law, a picky eater and used to NYC gourmet, praised La Cazadora when he visited us and still remembers the fabulous pork chops. When we talk on Sundays, he always asks, with that hint of jealousy in his voice, if we happened to eat here on Saturday. Can't say enough about this place. You've just got to try it. read more

This food is not authentic, how this place has received the start rating it currently has is befuddling. Just because you hang pinatas and colorful banners from the ceiling doesn't give you authentic Mex good credit. The menu lacks staple Mexican food, the code are stale and old, the salsa for the chips was spicy but it was watered down and the spice came from overloading with red chilli sauce instead of it coming from the natural cut up ingredients you find in good salsa. I ordered three chicken tacos, and they came in freaking Ortega taco shells that you buy from a Wal-Mart. Where are the made in house tortillas? Oh cooking in the microwave with the rest of my food. Smh. The Tacos were soft, I could have sworn I ordered crispy tacos, which was sad enough to see on the menu, where my corn or flour tortillas??? Well, outside of the old people being nice, I won't be going back nor will I ever recommend this place to anyone read more

The fact that this place has been here for 37 years should speak for itself. Mom and pop place have been cooking the same food for all those years. They both still work there everyday. Some of my favorites : chicken caldo(call in advance to make sure they didn't sell out), puffy tacos, enchiladas, flautas and their version of quesadillas are fabulous. read more
