Monday, 6-01-2026: Our trip to TX would not be complete without a stop here at my husband's favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. This San Antonio fixture has been here since 1937 & is serving consistently delicious food. His favorite are the bean rolls, which was only 10 cents a piece as a child. Today they're $2.49 a piece & still just as great! Service was quick & cordial. Food came out quickly and was so tasty! Portions were generous so we had to have to go boxes. Ambiance is very casual and simple. It brought back so many wonderful memories for my husband especially in regard to his childhood and his grandparents. The last time I was at this place was in the early-mid 2000s and only for breakfast so was looking forward to our visit. Food: 3/5 - the bean/cheese cup was delicious. My wife ordered the chalupa while I got the carne guisada taco with the cup. Meat had a funky odor and taste but not horrible. I added the green salsa (nice!) to spice it up. The chalupa was good but it's just a chalupa right? I then ordered the beef fajita taco. Generous portion but once again the meat was cooked but odor+rubbery feel. Ambience: 4/5 - The remodel is nice and place was clean. However, lots of tables waiting to be bussed. Good sign but not so great sign? Service: 4/5 - the young lady was polite friendly and patient as we navigated the menu. It's a fast casual so no servers. Well. It only took 40 years of living here to crown this place. This is, the best San Antonio has to offer for truly authentic Tex mex. How I drove by this place and ate at the establishment next door without coming here is unbelievable. First. The store is spotless. The menu is huge. They have a special plate each day. You order at the counter and the food will come out fast, hot and fresh. I decided to go big. The Big Teka. $18 Let me say this. The picture doesn't do its justice. This was enough for two. I've said it before I will judge a restaurant based on its beans and rice alone. If I am in Texas, then of course I have to eat Tex-Mex. Teka Molino absolutely hit the spot. Located in the make ready food hall area, the spot offers, ample seating, both indoors and outdoors. The food was bad! Terrible! Carne Guisada meat was dry and hard. Margarita in on 8 ounce glass for 10 bucks and couldn't even taste the tequila. As for puffy taco plate with corn tortillas and they gave me flour tortillas. The receipt says corn tortillas. Two Carne Guisada tacos $5.25 each plus cheese $6 a taco. Not enough meat in the tortilla. I don't mind paying for the food, but make it worth my money. read more

Before I continue with this post, I want to say that I have lived in San Antonio my entire life and have dined at Teka Molino many times and have eaten out of their food truck at the zoo The food has always been good, so I was excited to eat there because it had been a couple of years. Clean Mexican restaurant with friendly staff. I ordered the Teka Treat which consisted of two chicken flautas, some kind of flat Chalupa with maybe a bean and cheese spread on it , fried cheese, rice and beans with guacamole, sour cream and a little bit of salad. The plate of food was visibly appealing as if the food would be very good . My first bite of the chicken flauta was not good. I almost spit it out. It tasted so incredibly bad. The chicken was gray in color and it just had this horrible taste. I don't know if the oil they fry it in was bad or they used old chicken. Next bite was of the flat Chalupa with the spread on it. That did not taste good at all. I don't even know what it was and it was cold. The fried cheese was a little fried empanada with melted cheese inside, it was just OK. The only thing that was edible on my plate was the rice beans, guacamole, and a tortilla. I had high hopes that the food was still good but from the this experience, I do not think I will be going back. It was very disappointing. read more

This restaurant is a S.A. treasure. You walk in the door and the spices take you back to yesteryear. I grew up on their recipes. The food is always made to order. After selecting your plate pick up your chips and salsa and snack! YUM! Then find your spot. Plenty of seating with large picture windows. Then that moment when the nice man or women calls your name...it's hot delicious Teka Molino mexican food! I myself can't ever decide between enchiladas,tacos,tamales or puffy tacos. So they have a plate that covers it all for me (don't judge)! Not to mention the guacamole cups! Oh don't forget the cookies! That about sums up a perfect lunch or dinner! My heart is broken. This place has been a landmark in San Antonio since I was a child. It has declined so far since it was sold many years ago it is completely unrecognizable. First and foremost. It's dirty! The last several times I've been here, there are dirty tables everywhere and staff standing around doing nothing! Second, and certainly just as important is the food quality. The "nickel tacos" are not the same. The shells are much bigger they're crunchy. You can taste the cheap oil that they cook it in. They used to have the best beans anywhere. But now the bean rolls taste like they have old lard in them. When we first walked in, it smells like there's a gas leak in the back. Strong gas smell. And the staff acted like they didn't even notice it. Lastly, the health inspection review is a 92. And if you know anything about health inspections, you know that that is not good. Sad to say we will not be back. Teka Molina is dead. read more

The food service was fairly quick--the lunch special was 2 crispy tacos, rice & beans--the chicken taco was good however the ground beef was excessively greasy dripping with every bite, the rice was very bland and the beans tasted straight out of a can--not going back across town for that! read more

Hi fam, la morenita at the counter was so cute and nice that I actually agreed to a tip on the ipad even though the place is pretty much self-serve. Being welcoming and animated has value so I just have to say that first. Wow, the chips and salsa are good, with a robust corn flavor and not all greasy. I liked the puffy tacos, I have been looking for them after La Jacala burned down. I also enjoyed the chili rilleno with cheese. The rice had a classic tomatoey flavor. The sauce on the rilleno was picoso which was great. Teka is a reliable venue to get your Tex-Mex freak on. read more

This is a San Antonio staple. They are famous for their PUFFY TACOS! These are simply great and just like the original I grew up eating in old SanAntonio. Just wow. I was taking my tacos about an hour away and I didn't want the puffy shells to get soggy. I asked if they could keep everything apart, and they gladly did. Perfect. Plus, there is a bakery. We had been wanting to try puffy tacos since arriving in San Antonio. We searched through dozens of restaurants and lo and behold, this place was right around the corner from our hotel. (We almost drove 25 min to one across the city) The girl at the counter was very friendly and helpful. A fellow customer overheard me tell her this was our first time getting puffy tacos and she told me that this was her FAVORITE place for puffy tacos. She has been coming for YEARS. We ordered 2 puffy taco plates, one with the tortilla soup and then a few puffed tacos on the side. We all agreed that the puffy tacos were AMAZING. The soup was just ok. I offered for chicken to be in it but I didn't see any. I added some of the salsa to it to make it more flavorful. As for the free chips and salsa... wow. The salsa is SPICY. I like spice and it was hot. The interior and the restrooms were the nicest. Felt more "dive" or "hole in the wall-ish." We're not fancy though. I went on a Sunday afternoon (05/16/26). The quality of the food has really gone down & the girl at the counter wasn't helpful & didn't seem to understand anything I was telling her & she screwed up my order! After talking to her numerous times, I finally asked for the Manager on 3 separate occasions before the manager finally came out to speak to me. I asked her to replace an item: the fried cheese taco with jalopeno bc the one I got didn't have any jalopeno in it. She refused to do it for free, saying I would have to pay for another. I argued with her that it wasn't MY fault & I shouldn't have to pay again. She still refused to do so. Eventually, she did bring me another (as a 1-time exception!!!), but guess what? - no jalopeno in that one either! It definitely had jalopeno juice in it, but no pepper whatsoever! Then I had ordered a small Spanish rice that I always put their red salsa on. The salsa container had 1/8 inch of liquid only in it. I asked the girl to fill it up at least 3 or more times & let me know when she had done so - she never did it. The Manager finally had her fill it up. By the time she did so, my rice was stone cold. There were also flies all over the place bc their front & back doors were wide open bc their a/c wasn't working. I'm calling the Health Department tomorrow on them! I won't ever go back there again! You & your friends shouldn't go there either. read more

Food: 4* only because the puffy tacos are sometimes super greasy and they fall apart. But then other times, they are on point. Other than that, love the beef puffy tacos the shredded chicken taco salad. Salsa is pretty yummy too. Service: 5* Every single time I've gone here (and I go at least 2-3 times/month) everyone is so friendly and nice. Never had a bad experience with the staff, they're all great! 22 Jun 2023 Quite the menu. All manner of tacos, plates, breakfast. We were there about 10am. I ordered the huevos rancheros with coffee. The drink is included in the price. BUT, 10am and they had NO COFFEE! I settled for iced tea. Sigh. My plate was made the Mexico way. That is, the fried eggs were atop a corn tortilla, along with the beans and potatoes. Really tasty. The husband ordered the beef puffy taco plate. I did t think lunch-type items would be available, but no problem, he got his taco plate. Looked quite good. The price for our two plates was $20 even. BEWARE!!!! I took my girlfriend there 08/18/25 around 3:30 in afternoon so maybe one other table there? Ordered the special of the day beef enchilada plate with tea and a cookie (did not receive cookie). When I went to get salsa a non verbal homeless guy showed up at our table asking for food. Told him sorry and went back to start eating. He does not leave standing inches from my chair. He starts to salute an American flag that was on a pole next to my girlfriend's chair. After a couple of minutes of him doing this in almost a zombie state. I politely asked him to please leave several times. He totally ignored me and did not move. All this is happening in front of restaurant staff - finally a lady from behind the counter comes out to ask him to leave. He again ignores her request continuing to salute flag which makes for eating for uncomfortable- especially for my girlfriend who he's facing. Employee finally tells him she's going to call the police so he leaves. Only to go to the window by my table and shoot the finger at me and tell me to go outside so he can kick my ass. Which would Have been a very poor outcome for him! So a male employee goes out to tell him to leave the property. Meanwhile my food is getting cold which was sad because it was pretty good. What really upset me is that the female employee comes to apologize and tells me he is always coming in there and doing that. Why would they continually let him go inside and harass and threaten paying customers ??? I and my girlfriend will never go there again despite the food being good! read more

My job had a food truck come out and feed us folks as a treat. Only thing I need to say is try the Green Enchiladas Plate - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Dress it up with the green salsa. Slather that thing up. Stack the lettuce up on top and you will love this meal. Refried beans were yummy too! Never really order green enchiladas, but they were recommended to me and I loved it. Something has definitely changed. The quality of the food has declined. Hot sauce was watery. Chalupa shells tasted stale. Crispy beef tacos were full of grease. Have been going weekly for the past 10-15yrs. Food is usually always excellent. I no longer recognize any of the faces behind the counter or in the kitchen. Today the girl who took my order called my nickel tacos, puffy tacos. I had to make sure she understood I ordered the nickel taco not the puffy taco. She told me they are one and the same. no they are not. Please go back to original recipes. Another clue I should have picked up on was the parking lot was empty at 4 PM on a Friday afternoon. After living and working near this place for years, I finally visited today with a group. You order at the front and someone brings your food to the table. I took some chips (no salsa) when offered while ordering, which were warm and crispy! My green enchiladas were delivered quickly to the table. We had to sit outside because of our large group, but it was shaded and clean. I'd go back to try some nachos! read more

I came to try their new puffy breakfast tacos and was not disappointed. A very unique breakfast experience! Ambiance was nice. Mostly clean and classic mariachi songs playing. That combined with the food, took me on a lovely trip to Mexico! However, there were a lot of dirty tables that were not being serviced. And people standing around waiting for them to be cleaned. That was not a good indicator of good service. High wait time for food and on top of that you have to wait in line to order. This restaurant overall is great! On my way home from Riverwalk I purposely stopped at Teka Molino after seeing it on Netflix's Taco Chronicles. BTW San An is home of the original taco. This place is not glitz and glam and it's in the middle of an older plaza BUT despite the big menu...get the puffy taco. It's delicious and unlike any of the thousands of tacos I eat in Austin. Despite the puffy shell it's soft and slightly crunchy which is helpful when taking a bit but the meat is the star. I got the beef. There's no yellow drippings of Sazon, just great cumin and garlic flavor with real onion and peppers and diced potatoes in the ground. Fresh crisp cold iceburg lettuce, tomato and cheddar and a little sour cream for some added acidity and fat. Also watch the episode and get some history. Tastes very homemade but with elevated effort and unique flavor we aren't used to when you think taco Tuesday. read more

I reviewed this amazing restaurant back in 2020 and they ae still the best. We bought the #15 Puffy taco plate, the #20 Teka Favorite's and the chips and salsa. I got the #15 with guacamole instead of meat. Their guacamole is the best. They don't mess with the perfection of the avocado. They add some spices and tomato's and that's it. Like I said perfect! My aunt got the Teka Favorite with the Nickle tacos, bean roll, guacamole cup and a fried cheese. Now you know why this plate is the favorite. Yummy! I have been coming to the restaurant F_O_R_E_V_E_R and the service has never failed me. They are always so nice and willing to serve you. They always have a smile and will give recommendations when asked. They restaurant was update and looks amazing. It's so warm and inviting! They have a side room that houses the big screen TV. First timers stopping by and overall it wasn't a bad experience but I wasn't super amazed by the food. I did really like their baked goods. The items we had seemed fresh so I'd definitely recommend them. It isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. You order in line once you arrive. Then you are given your cups for drinks or for coffee you have to ask them to pour it. To me I felt like it was a bit too light. You also have to pick up or ask for chips and salsa by the counter area. Both salsas offered to me were aight. I love mine to be extra spicy. We ordered the carne asada plate and green enchiladas plate. Hubby did like his food but he likes to top it off with salsa which wasn't that great. My green enchiladas were very delicious! The chicken didn't feel too dry and had a salsa from the kitchen I assume and it was good. The rice was aight not bad but my son is very picky with rice and he didn't like it. It was missing something but I can't put my finger on it. The beans he really did enjoy. Oh they offer the Jarrito drinks here and those are a must! We were looking for a nice place to get some Mexican food that was close to our hotel and many of our fellow yelpers seemed to like this place. It does have a limited parking but it has a lot of tables inside and the staff is friendly. We were glad they had complementary chips and salsa and the meal portions were large indeed. I enjoyed the enchiladas but the chili reinos were not that great and we got a bowl of queso which wasn't up to par.
