Best Breakfast Tacos: Best Picadillo tacos in all of San Antonio, Austin and South Central Texas. I've been eating here since 2008!!!

We stumbled upon this place while visiting San Antonio and we were so happy we did. It's a cute little place that's been open for 50 years. Their specialties are barbacoa, tamales, and their homemade tortillas. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros with Barbacoa, the Carne a la Mexicana Lunch Plate, and a Lengua Taco. The barbacoa was to die for... really moist and flavorful and shredded to perfection. The carne asada was cooked nicely and had a good ratio of meat to veggies. The lengua was really tender. We love love loved the tortillas, both corn and flour. If we lived closer, we would visit Olgitas Molino regularly. Check them out! read more

My man crush and I were looking for a place to have breakfast after a weekend in San Antonio. We happened to stop here and my man crush ordered some breakfast tacos and I ordered the Migas plate. While we were waiting in line, another customer came and ordered some tamales. They looked legit...wrapped in foil and stored in a big cooler. I asked her how they were and she raved about them. We ordered some to go. (Back to those in a few). The migas I ordered were very flavorful and yummy. The breakfast tacos my man crush ordered were good but he said they needed more flavor...he spooned some of my migas into his taco and said they were perfect. After we ate, we got our tamales. There were different kinds and we decided on a dozen pork and a dozen spicy pork. I also bought 2 dozen pork for my sister and brother. The tamales were amazing! So flavorful and delicious. This has to be the best horchata I've ever had hands down!! So cinnamony, sweet, and rich!! In terms of food, I believe they are known for their barbacoa, however, I wasn't impressed. It's bland and has no flavor, just meat. The chicken fajita tacos are way better than the barbacoa. read more

Another local gem! Just moving here and I love the vibe of some of the places. This place reminds me of a place I would go to with my dad when I was a kid. We ordered tamales and menudo to eat later today. We ate tacos there. We went quite early and a line started to form shortly after we arrived. Love it. This is a must go to for authentic tacos. Recently moved to SA downtown area and I've been looking for a great barbacoa place near my apartment. Notice I said great.. not good, great. A friend recommended me this place and I decided to give it a shot. First off, I think it's really cool that they follow the social distancing rules and only allow a certain amount of members inside the restaurant while you wait for pick up. This shows their commitment to helping and taking care of our community. I ordered the special with two pounds of barbacoa and then an extra pound on the side, a drink, and a potato and chorizo taco. Total came out to about $51, thought this was a little steep, to be honest. Then again.. I know meat has been going up so won't be too critical of that. The barbacoa had great texture, good meat quality, but not enough flavor for my taste. It just needed more seasoning. Now I understand a lot of places don't season it so that you can add salt to preference.. but some other traditional barbacoa spices would have been nice. Tortillas were alright, flour are traditional SA thick tortillas and the corn were white corn. The salsa was pretty good actually and the packaging was as expected. The taco was a lot better than the barbacoa! I'd definitely come back and try some more of those! read more

Dios mio. This is the epitome of what I dream of when I want a breakfast taco. A really old building painted many times over, you walk inside and immediately step into a 1990s shop that may have been converted to a restaurant at some point. There are plenty of windows letting the fresh breeze right in, adding to the ambiance on a cloudy Friday morning. The service was so good. Ana, the front area lady was so accommodating and sweet. We ordered 6 breakfast tacos, some chorizo, bacon, and a potato. THEY WERE UNREAL. And their torillas were so doughy and freshly made. Gosh, Shall I continue? Okay, will do. My beau order the 6.99 Lunch special of the day which contained two homemade enchiladas, refried beans and a HUGE tea. Oh and an additional crunchy taco. I went down to Olgitas, lookin for some Barbacoa and Big Red. Gimme three gorditas, 'cause I like a little fat. This place is a San Antonio tamale legend. They crank out the tamales during tamale season, Thanksgiving to Christmas. Well, they crank them out all other days of the year, but during this time, they go into overdrive. Just coming in for lunch, there's a line that builds of people picking up huge sacks of 'em. This seems to be a favorite place for catering local office parties. I came in and got the gorditas, which took a while to get. Most of the kitchen was working on getting out the tamales, and their daily lunch special seemed to be an afterthought. But they finally got around to taking the order, and got it out after a while. The gorditas were piled high with fresh ingredients, cheese, and served with a side of a smoky red and a hot hot hot green. The food was excellent, and you're not going to walk away hungry from here. Grande portions! The restaurant is clean, a hardworking place that's a hive of activity. The exterior of the restaurant is notable because it has a mural by local artist Robert Tatum. Check it out! Parking is a bit challenging. It's right off the one-way access road of the freeway, right before a series of weird intersections, but if you're crafty, you can get there by the back roads. read more

Stopped here early one morning for tamales as this was one of the few places open before work who had them available. I got 3 dozen just pork because that was all they had last week, even though the menu says they also carry bean, chicken and a couple other kinds. Positive: Crispy Taco plate comes with 3 crispy tacos! The picadillo was tasty but greasy. The shells were totally store bought and rather disappointing but the picadillo flavorful. The refried beans were satisfactory and the rice was good. The tamales had too much dough(masa) and the meat(pork) was concentrated on the ends. This place has the best homemade Mexican food. It's family owned and the kitchen is spotless. Tortillas are handmade. The food is not over salted which is great. I have asked for egg whites due to health reasons and they are always happy to accommodate me. All the hot sauces are homemade. The menudo is perfect and of course they sell big red. There is a line on Sundays but it's well worth the wait. The family here is very kind and polite. I love this place. Every time I eat here I leave feeling very satisfied with the service, the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant. read more

I credit my wife for helping me with my quest for experiencing good food, and she has not let me down. She introduced me to this gem several years ago, nut our kids' active lives and work schedule keeps us from enjoying the cafe but we visited them during our last staycation. We made our way down to the obscure establishment on the frontage of I-35 and were hoping that it had not changed, and we were extremely happy when we entered because we could smell the goodness of the food. The menu boasted a large variety of breakfast tacos that extended beyond the standard-issue of bacon, sausage and potato, and egg tacos respectively. So, we approached the counter, placed our order, grabbed a seat (limited seating) and anxiously waited for our meal. Our order was ready within a short period of time, and I quickly dove into my Carne Guisada and country con chile taco. First, the tortillas were homemade, the Carne Quisada was tender and flavored perfectly, and the chile sauce that accompanied the country sausage was epic. The tacos were so simple but were patiently made with love. My wife ordered 2 chorizo and egg tacos and my daughter ordered potato and egg and bean and cheese tacos, For me, each bite was heaven, and I savored each bite quietly because I did not want to embarrass my wife and daughter. In fact, they may not have moaned but were speechless during the meal which means they were in their "own" place while savoring their own breakfast. Finally, my interpretation of breakfast tacos consists of food prepared by people who care about their meals and these ladies care.
