Delicious, authentic Mexican restaurant. I really felt the homemade vibe from the interior of the dining area to the food, all the way to the plates. Not to mention the customer service was amazing, our waitress was extremely amicable and attentive. Our food did take a little long to come out, but our waitress informed us and apologized. However, I would say the food was definitely worth the wait! I'm going to have to come back for breakfast!

Menudo with their own made tortillas.

I like their menudo. Very clean and neat. Their tortillas are made on sight, such very good tortillas.

For it being my mom and I first time, the food was great and service was good! Would definitely recommend coming here to try new foods and places

Each table has this little decor set so cute.

This is the first time I said. "I'm going to yelp so much on this place!" I'm a big fan of Oaxaca! People, food and culture. Since I have visited the state a couple times I always wish to find the feeling in so many places here in California. This is one of them!!!!! Thanks to some supportive food bloggers I was convinced to drive here today and have a comforting meal! Place has limited seats, cute colorful interiors by the way. for now (they're explaining really soon) so while waiting I sampled their fresh carnitas and chicharon cooked right outside! The friendly gentleman cooking outside was right about how good it is. It's so good! So many people stopping by getting their fresh cracklings to go! We ordered a couple of things. I'm excited Birria de chivo plato. Looking forward to the tlayudas and mole. Will update my review! Lemme finish eating;) oh and we ordered the best menudo ever!

interestingly, the chips and salsa for dine-in, the salsa was also mole-ish? Wasn't complaining

We've actually been here several times now, as we live in the area - they do have a small, low-frills seating area, and the first time tried them, we ate there, but the other times, we've gotten food to take back with us. (One comment: if you dine in, they give you chips and mole salsa for free - if you get food to go, I learned on my most recent visit a couple days ago, you *can* ask for some, but you have to ask. Which I will continue to do, as their mole salsa is very good!) Anyway, on that note, the first time I tried the food here, I was there specifically to try their mole plate - their mole is pretty good (not quite as good as the best mole I had, in Mexico City, but there are probably also things it's harder to get here than in Mexico City for making mole. Anyway, it was quite good.) I was less happy with the chicken, just because it was bone-in chicken and fairly bony (wish they'd have more meat options for the mole plate - though the menu is also wrong, incidentally, it *is* available every day). On the other hand, the mole was the important part of that anyway, so I'd much rather just dip chips in it, which as I mentioned you can do for free-with-purchase, and then order something else. We also tried their tlayudas, which I had figured you really had to eat right away vs taking it to go - it is quite good, though some of the toppings were a bit... large. My wife was less impressed with it, though, so I ended up taking a good amount home anyway (turns out I was wrong - like pizza, it's actually pretty good the next day, too.) Subsequent to that visit, I've been back three times for to-go orders, and every time, I've gotten a torta, as their tortas are actually pretty great value, much more so than their "entrees" ($10, and they're *huge*). That said, I also delayed this review specifically *until* I went back to try their torta again, as the first time I got a torta from them, a few months ago, it was *great*, then I went back a few weeks later and had a much worse, less flavorful, flimsier torta with gristlier meat and was super disappointed, and wasn't sure if it was a one-off. Anyway, the torta I had a couple days ago was, in fact, great, so: probably. Would strongly recommend their tortas based on two out of three times I tried them, anyway. Zero complaints about service speed or quality at any point, dine-in or takeout. Some definitely had to translate questions to the chef last time, which didn't speak English, but well, that just says a place claiming to be properly Mexican rather than Mexican-American likely actually is. (Then again, you could probably also tell from the fact that they have chapuline burritos on the menu. Also goat birria and lamb barbacoa, but only on Sundays, and that part of the menu is accurate. I would like to try both of those, we just never end up here on Sunday. Chapulines are every day, though.)

Check this spot out for breakfast Saturday morning and it was so delicious. I highly recommend getting the moly chicken dish, but I heard it's gonna be available day of the dead weekend. They're Birria is made out of goat meat, which you have ever having traditional pull off and there was very good Quesadillas, they were delicious both the mushroom and the one that was more like veggie base. Delicious service was super friendly and warming. I really cute restaurant very vibrant. This is definitely my top for Oaxaca food.

First of all one of their workers with the mastche and tattoos is so cute which is always a plus for the ambiance. It didn't take long to get our food. About 5 minutes and they brought it out to where we sat since we dined in. First of all! You need to get an aguas fresca. We got the medium for the orange mango and the Jamaica. They are so natural. I'm a huge fan of artificial flavor so this was a huge shock, but it pairs so well with their food. My only regret isn't getting the large. For the food we got the burrito 2.0 asada and the chivichanga chicken. The burrito was great but very heavy on the beans. Make sure you get extra green salsa. It's their best and a perfect balance of salty with a hint of sweet. The red salsa gets spicy. If you can't handle hot Cheetos don't eat it. Now the chivichanga thing was perfect. It's so tiny but the fact it's about $5 was perfect. I have never had something so well priced and portioned before. The way I can describe it if you ever wanted to taste high class Taco Bell that will make you want four more then you need to try it. And I mean this in the best way possible. It's so cheesy and savory and yummy!!! Truly just from these two dishes we will be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Our next dishes is to try the tacos!

We ordered caramelos with the poblanos inside, as well as their horchata. Tortillas are some of the best I've had. Super soft and flavorful from the grill. The fillings and salsa were good too, but it was really wet, and the bean ratio especially compared to the meat, was a little off. Always am going to want more meat. Horchata was unique since it was coconut based. Overall solid spot with patient staff. Tacos La Rueda is still better, but will be back when in Long Beach.

It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. There was one that we were interested in and asked if we could have it which the waitress working was ok with. But it needed clearing up. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. Only the front patio and inside seating was available as the back patio wasn't open. We did start to see other staff walking in so maybe there was only one staff during the time.

The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH.
