Egg and chorizo torta and huarache
    Arturo B.

The staff were friendly and the place itself was very clean and cute, but it was very hot inside. There was about a 20 minute wait time for our torta and huarache, but the food was still served almost cold. The portions were very small and the chorizo/egg to cheese ratio is not good.

La Ciudad in West Sacramento is a stylish modern Mexican spot that immediately feels welcoming. The exterior has a clean contemporary look, and the patio with colorful umbrellas and communal tables gives it a relaxed neighborhood vibe. Inside, the space opens up with high ceilings, modern lighting, patterned tile, and a large mural that adds a lot of character without feeling overdone. We started with the guacamole, and it set the tone for the meal. It was beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. Fresh, bright, and well balanced. Definitely some of the better guacamole I have had, both in flavor and presentation. For my entrée I ordered the chile relleno. It was very good and I would recommend it. The pepper was nicely roasted and topped with a creamy sauce that worked really well with the dish. Two others in our party tried the chicken tamal. The tamales themselves were good and fairly traditional in flavor, but the mole sauce was the standout. It was rich, complex, and clearly the highlight of that dish. Service was also excellent. Our server was very helpful and attentive without hovering or getting in the way too much. He checked in at the right times and helped keep the meal moving smoothly. Overall this was a very good experience. Between the thoughtfully designed space, strong flavors coming out of the kitchen, and great service, La Ciudad is definitely worth a visit. Overall rating: 4 out of 5. I would happily come back and try more of the menu.

We were down from Seattle and craving Mexican food and this place did not disappoint. We have jueveos rancheros and chilaquiles and both were sooooo good. We also had flavored lattes (one honey and one coconut - can't remember what they were called) that were so good I thought about having second, but didn't need more caffeine. Will definitely be back next time we're in the area. Our server was also super friendly and delightful.

Came for the first time for lunch on a weekday. Greeted fairly quickly and sat outside. Sunny but they have umbrellas but it gets warm quick as it didn't cover a lot of the table. Interior and exterior was clean and had very cute decor. They also serve ice cream here on the left side of the restaurant which is a nice touch. Food was disappointing despite being plated well. 3/5 guac - pretty but lackluster in taste and it was presented without plates or napkins. Not a huge deal but we didn't get silverware or napkins until food arrived. 3/5 ribeye tacos. Meat was tough and chewy. Green salsa was sweet and not very tasty. Friend got shrimp tacos and said it was just okay. Another friend got a chile relleno which was decent. The rice was good and the creamy white sauce on her plate was the best thing we had. Not sure I'd be back for food. Everything was extremely pretty tho. If return I'd get something different or maybe to try the ice cream. The service was friendly but extremely slow and didn't get a check back after food was dropped until we were finished. A bit disappointed in my experience, not sure this is on my list of places to return anytime soon. Got pretty pictures of my food tho.

I saw this place just opened on social media and I had to check it out. I love places with a big beautiful mural inside, it just sets the vibe. Inside is very vibrant, open, and clean. Their parking lot is really small, so we ended up parking in the neighborhood. Our server was Amy who was friendly and patiently answered my questions. We ordered the blanco canela latte and the Tierra blanco latte. We also ordered the chorizo burrito and the chilequiles rojos. I saw they also have mole and chile relleno so I'll have to go back and try those dishes. There are some days where they close in the evening but I believe that's during the weekend, their hours are on the front door. Pros: everything is made fresh when you order. I wasn't sure about the spice level for the chilequiles and was offered a sample. It took a bit because they made a fresh batch just for me to try. I loved the chorizo burrito, the green sauce was so flavorful and complimented the chorizo very well. I enjoyed the chilequiles as well. Amy was great and checked up on us regularly. Cons: parking can be tricky. The neighborhood homeowners already have their cars parked on the street as well.

Overall Experience: We visited La Ciudad MX City Urban Market for Saturday brunch and were so impressed. This newer spot in West Sacramento brings bold Mexican flavors together with a modern, urban market vibe, and it truly feels like a gem for the community. It's the kind of place that makes you excited to come back and try more. Concept & Space: La Ciudad is more than just a restaurant, it's an urban marketplace featuring a café, nieveria/paletería, and full restaurant all in one. The inside was very clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. The market-style layout makes it feel lively yet comfortable, and you can tell a lot of intention went into the vision of the space. Drinks: The café menu highlights Mexican-inspired coffee and drinks, and they did not disappoint. I ordered the iced Suspiro Maya latte, which was absolutely delicious and perfectly sweet. My husband got the iced Canela Soul latte, and he really enjoyed it as well. Both drinks were well-balanced and flavorful. Food: I ordered the chorizo & egg torta, which was incredibly flavorful and satisfying. It comes with avocado salsa, but I highly recommend asking for their spicy salsa on the side if you like a little heat, it adds the perfect extra kick. My husband ordered the chorizo burrito, which was also delicious and hearty. The menu has many lunch and dinner items that look amazing, and we're already planning a return visit to try more. Service: The service was wonderful. Our servers were so sweet, checked in on us regularly, and took the time to share the history and vision behind La Ciudad. It was really nice hearing how the café, restaurant, and market all come together as one urban marketplace. Parking: There is a small parking lot available, and we also noticed plenty of nearby street parking, which made it easy to visit. Final Thoughts: La Ciudad MX City Urban Market is such a welcome addition to West Sacramento. Great food, delicious drinks, warm service, and a beautiful space. Highly recommend stopping by, especially for brunch!

I came to La Ciudad for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday. Parking lot is limited but thankfully some spots were open when I got here so I had no trouble finding parking. The interior is stunning, elegant, clean and touches of traditional Mexican decor. When I first walked in I was greeted and welcomed in, staff is very friendly. This is a great concept, Mexican urban market where you can order coffee, ice cream or other goodies to go on one side or sit down to enjoy a meal on the right. It's is an open space with plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces. There's even a mini fusbool outdoors just like in Mexico. The coffee was a 10/10, love to and the server had my coffee remade because i accidentally forgot to order it dairy free. I got the chorizo burrito and it was yummy as well- I'd give it a 8/10. My boyfriend ordered the chicharron and he said that he wished the chicharron was much crunchier and it was a little too soft for a chicharron for him but it still had good flavor. I can't wait to be back and try their other items!

The newest Mexican offering in West Sacramento. Beautiful decors inside. Very high end. Artwork, bar design, layout of the restaurant. You can tell every detail was meticulously chosen. I am pretty sure ownership here runs my fiancées favorite midtown spot, Zocalo's. The location is super convenient and close to home for me. I hope this place can succeed as I hope for all the eateries in town. Went to pick up a couple breakfast burritos after my workout recently. Sat at the bar and had a beer while I waited. Service was great. Vibes were high for the spot. Now I'm sure a lot of lady's can relate to my breakfast burrito dilemma here; it was a fantastic breakfast burrito with great flavors and of high quality. Problem is that the burrito in question was small. Sure there was plenty of cheese and the eggs were scrambled perfectly, some crispy bacon and spicy chorizo. But upon opening the bag and seeing the burrito I was extremely disappointed in the overall size of it. This is not to disparage La Ciudad as it was my first time here. I plan to return and try more of their menu as the pictures I've seen do it justice. For two breakfast burritos and a modelo my total was $33 before tip.

Second time I've been here and I will be coming back again. The tostada was the best I've ever had. No joke. The staff are very friendly. The restaurant's decor is well done. So far everything I've had has not disappointed. I still need to try their cocktails which look and sound delicious.

Darling new locally owned spot in West Sac with unique yummy coffee beverages, breakfast, Mexican food, and even ice cream. Parking is very limited. I really enjoyed the Iced Tierra Blanca Latte. They're still in their soft opening phase but recently extended their weekend evening hours to 8pm.

My boyfriend and I walked with our dog to get some breakfast around 10:00am. They do not have umbrellas yet for the outdoor patio according to one of the servers so just caution if you decide to bring your dog on a sunny, warm morning like today. Also advise you order drinks and to go orders at the cafe to your left OR you take a seat and wait for a server to order at the tables to your right. The service at "cafe" is quite slow, but it's expected since it seems like the person there is taking orders, making drinks AND occasionally serving food. Blanco canela latte - 5/5 essentially their made horchata with a couple shots of espresso - Regular Horchata - 4/5 We ordered to-go and took our food home to eat- I got chilaquiles rojos and added chorizo - 3/5 it was good however I like my chilaquiles soaked and a little soggy but some of the chips were uncoated and still hard so I assume salsa was poured over the chips instead of being cooked in it - also the type of tortilla chips they seemed to use over powered any other flavor in the dish My boyfriend got the chorizo burrito - 3/5 They are very new so expect service to be a little slower and unorganized Will try again in a month!

I've been driving past this corner for years and always wondered what its potential could be. Then I saw construction begin earlier this year and was excited to see what would be revealed. After popping in to confirm they were indeed finally open yesterday, my family and I walked down this morning for coffee and breakfast. First impression-OMG this place is stunning! The elegant and clearly cultural elements make the space special to sit in. There is a beautiful mural about the tragic love story of the Aztec warrior Popoca and Princess Mixtli. Next time, I plan on eating inside, but we needed to sit outside because of our stroller and dog. They had comfy chairs to enjoy our coffees in but due to the rainy weather they hadn't set up their patio yet. However, Ernesto was amazing and brought out a table and chairs from inside for us to dine Al fresco. Second impression-the service is fantastic. See note about Ernesto above. Everyone who is there has been friendly and goes above and beyond to ensure your food and drink are exactly how you want. Sandra was our barista and waitress and was so helpful in answering my multitude of questions. My husband had the breakfast burrito-he stated in between eating the first half and the second half that it was one of the best breakfast burritos he has ever had. I would have taken a photo except he was eating into it faster than I could whip out the phone! I ordered the tuna tostada (fresh and spicy!!) and the baked fish and shrimp entree. I took one bite and stopped in my tracks because I have never tasted anything like it before. It was so unique-smoky, spicy, briny and made me think of fresh fish from the beaches in Tulum and the ornate complex flavors of Mexico City, a culinary capital. I cannot wait to go back and try everything on their menu. Their drinks look great too so look forward to inviting friends to join me. I believe they will do well bringing culture, style and flavors to this corner in West Sacramento. We need more local businesses who want to create their mark in our cities. I, for one am invested in everything they have to offer and more! Welcome La Cuidad MX City!!

I'm so glad I finally got to check out La Ciudad. The vibe here is so relaxing & nostalgic for me. I loved the decor! Service was pretty quick & everyone was kind. I enjoyed my horchata chai & the huarache. The chilaquiles were okay.

Looking to meet up and chat over a couple drinks, I suggested that a friend and I meet at the Mecca Club. When our Lyft driver dropped us off at the establishment (I highly recommend using a ride sharing app when visiting this bar), I honestly couldn't tell if the business was still in operation. The outside sign was not illuminated, and at the time, the two motorcycles parked outside was the only indication of patrons. However, when we opened the back door (it literally felt like entering a secret society club), we were greeted by a friendly employee named Amy, laughter from some folks at the bar, and the sound of tunes coming from the jukebox. We took a seat at the bar, Amy politely requested to see our ID's (this is a silent compliment when you're in your late 30's), and we placed our orders for our first round of margaritas. As Amy concocted our drinks (she really puts love into making each drink), she greeted the patrons that continued to file in. What really stood out about Amy was her ability to not only remember the names of the regular patrons, but also their drink preferences (now that's what I call exceptional customer service). I did not watch Amy make our drinks; therefore, I cannot attest to how many shots she put in each drink. However, I will say that the drinks that are served here are indeed stiff (by no means am I complaining). Hence, why I suggested that you utilize some form of ride sharing if this is your bar of choice. If you're not in the mood to deal with downtown/midtown parking and the increasing prices of cute craft cocktails, I highly recommend checking out Mecca Club...enjoy and please be safe!

We paid in advance for a table howevor, they let the people in first who did not have a ticket or a table, so we and others with tables had to wait until they paid and went in first. That defeats the purpose, in my opinion, of paying in advance. I hope they consider to allow advance payees in first. I mean coupled with the champagne, that would make it a complete VIP experience. The service. They had one young lady on the floor and she was stretched thin. She came to our table and took the order of our 2 friends and walked away. She did not take my and my daughters order. I was like what the heck. She walked to the next 2 tables, who had already had their food and took their drink orders. When I got her attention she was like "I know" and then walked to a third table before coming back to our table. I was flabbergasted to say the least. If they did not automatically put a 20% service fee on the bill, please beleive she would have received a lesser tip for that. I dont know if they were short staffed or what, but that was crazy. Please know your credit card will be required to open a tab. They put a 20% service fee on the bill. There is a $200 minimum spend for each table. Leading with that i will add, the minimum spend would not be a problem except, if you don't drink you are stuck with ordering multiple plates of food. I ended up ordering the fried chicken (3 large wings) and a French toast plate. I dont drink beyond mimosa and they do not offer any non alcoholic options aside from juice...at least from what I saw on the menu. The food... Omg, the fried chicken was lukewarm and had no seasoning on it. We doused it in hot sauce, that is how bland it was. The French toast, while pretty, was cold so I did not eat it. The eggs and potatoes were hot and sufficient. No one at our table finished the chicken. The catfish was good and perfectly seasoned. I wish they had seasoned the chicken the way they seasoned the fish. The table next to us did not finish their fish and grits. The lady told me the grits were subpar. Another lady did not eat her breakfast burrito. One person at our table spoke to someone about the bad service we received and they adjusted our bill so we were not required to meet the $200 table minimum. So that was a good save. Overall I would give 5 stars for the vibe. Music. Complimentary champagne. 1 star for the food. I hope they consider revamping their menu and marinating the chicken overnight in some good spices and frying it to order, even if folks have to wait a bit longer. Lukewarm unseasoned chicken for $15 was disappointing. Would i come again, absolutely. I would eat beforehand and not get a table so I dont have to spend $200. I would drink mimosas and party. I do recommend going because despite the food, the party is a VIBE!

Apparently this used to be a liquor store - there is a large refrigerated area in the back. Came here for lunch and had the drunken noodles. Wow, talk about spicy! While it was very tasty, I had to sip water in-between bites. Tried this spot again for happy hour. Now this is where it's at! They have "train shots" for $3. Yes folks, the train tracks are practically right outside the door. I wanted to buy shots for my staff and thankfully the bar tender just let me get the train shots sans train. It does pass by periodically however. Great vibe and fast service. My coworkers said they want to come back here again. Can you blame them if the boss is treating? LOL.

The service and food quality have always been excellent. They have a huge menu, a friendly staff, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels a step above a typical taqueria or fast casual spot, with solid table service to match. It's about time I gave them the credit they deserve because their food is consistently great. Historically, I've loved their enchilada plate, especially the mole enchilada. It's one of my favorites. Today, with the sun out, I was in more of a mariscos mood, so I ordered the shrimp ceviche and the fried tilapia plate. The ceviche is very bright and fresh, with mango mixed in, which adds a really nice layer of flavor to the traditional combination. It comes with freshly fried tostadas that are crisp and flavorful. I'm not personally a fan of the white crackers on the side, but they also bring complimentary chips and salsa, so once the tostadas run out you can use the tortilla chips instead, which works just fine. The tilapia was excellent. It's hard to go wrong with a well fried tilapia, and they do it right. The guacamole and pico on the side are great for building tacos, and the beans and rice are both perfect. You really can't go wrong coming here, especially with the variety they offer. Sitting outside on the patio is nice, though this particular location can feel a bit sketchy at times since a few odd characters often cut through the parking. It's mostly fine, but if you're looking for a more relaxed patio vibe, the other location might be a better option. That said, this spot also has a comfortable indoor dining area.

You order at the counter then are given a number. Picked up some complimentary chips and salsa and waited. The salsas here were pretty good. Particularly like the mild red salsa. Fresh radish and jalapeños available too. I loved my California burrito. I added avocado to it. The asada were meaty and plentiful. Fries were crunchy yet not greasy. My mom loved the beans here. That's always a big deal with Mexican spots. The chilaquiles were delicious. I'd order that myself on the next visit. We didn't care for their scrambled eggs on the plate, could've went a bit softer on the scramble. Overall this place is a great local spot for Mexican eats. Affordable while still serving big portions and awesome bites. Cashier was super friendly and patient.
