Weeknight dinner ! Service - it wasn't the best. It didn't seem too busy in there for a Wednesday night but we hardly saw our waiter. Food - whenever i don't see an item i usually get, i order the appetizer platter which gives me a little bit of everything. That did not disappoint! My friend enjoyed their meal as well Drinks - pricey but strong margaritas. All it takes is one! They don't advertise the price for them until you ask which is weird but they're $18. I was on the fence but it was every penny.

In my quest to patronize every business in the Vintage, I ended up at La Corona, and no...I wasn't deterred by the name...this spot precedes the events of 2020! Although this little gem is relatively hidden from exterior view, once you step in, although casual, and modest, it certainly had a whole lot of character! Lotteria themed tables and chairs fill the space. Wall art and art work paint the walls in every color of the rainbow, and the menu is just as colorful boasting, giant, indulgent drink creations, a tradition Mexican food menu section and much more! With a love of all things Chamoy and tajin, I immediately gravitated to the Chamoy margarita, and it didn't disappoint! It's HUGE! Decorated with all sorts of fruits, veggies, a tajin rim, and a spoon of chamoy candy I was in heaven. Nothing like a dessert drink to start your meal, right?! The queso blanco was the perfect consistency and the chips were perfectly crisp and flavorful without being oily! The chicken and beef fajitas were a bit lacking in presentation but the flavor was ay ok after adding a bit of salt. It may sound odd, but I wished the meet was sliced in thinner strips for serving and bump up the seasoning a little bit. To make it plain, I've had better and I've had worst fajitas, I'd be inclined to try these a second time. Everyone was friendly, and overall, I could see my self returning, maybe for a loteria night, if they begin hosting them!

This is one place I don't mind trying different things bc it's always great. Today I went back to my first meal here for chicken fajitas. So many places don't give many vegetables with the meat, but without the veggies you've got tacos al carbon basically. Here, you get onions, red and green peppers, and tomatoes. The service is amazing - if they feel you are in need they come over quickly without hovering. The guac is good but I prefer the chunky avocado salad with the veggies. The restaurant is nice and even when full it's relatively quiet. I highly recommend La Corona.

Delicious and authentic Mexican food! The staff is always friendly and professional. And I love the lotería theme seating. We never disappointed with my meal or experience at The Corona.

This place ... HOLY COW!!!! We stopped in for a drink and wound up staying a while! We were there at lunch and when we walked in it smelled so clean. Staff went above and beyond. We were able to catch up and have a conversation without the staff always stopping by. However, they were attentive enough to notice our drinks were running low which is always important. We started out with chips and warm salsa. It isn't like the traditional cold salsa. Then we had the white queso. It was sooo good. Could have made a meal out of just those. I went ahead and got the cheese enchiladas and a red crunchy taco. Everything tasted wonderful. I can't wait to go back and try the fried avocado. It looked really good as well.

We went to La Corona for lunch today, having wanted to try this place out for a while. They opened just shortly before the height of covid, which is a testament to the business, especially considering their name, at that time when businesses were already struggling without having any likeness to CoronaVirus. The interior of the restaurant is fairly small with a mixture of tables and booths. It's clean and colorful. They have really neat, colorful, hand made chairs and booths which add to the flair. Chips and salsa came out right after our drink orders were taken; their tortilla chips are a festive regular corn color with some blue and red chips sprinkled in. The single type of salsa brought to us was obviously house made, a deep red color with a smoky flavor and just a little burn at the end. I had the stuffed avocado which was pretty good. The breading was fairly light and crisp, the avocado was perfectly ripe and it was loaded with a decent amount of beef and cheese, it also came with a beef fajita taco, rice and beans. The beef in the taco was diced into fairly small pieces, with a nice char on it and a good flavor. Rice and beans were pretty standard fair, nothing to write home about. My wife had the 'Martin' plate, or plates, if you will. It literally came out on 2 separate plates, consisting of a chicken flauta, beef fajita taco, chili relleno, cheese enchilada with rice and beans, for $19. That was a ton of food for the price. She barely ate half of it before needing a box. The others in our party seemed to enjoy their shared chicken enchilada and shrimp fajitas. Service was plentiful and friendly. All in all a good experience, nothing mind blowing, just solid Mexican food.

I've had lunch here twice within the past month. La Corona is located in Vintage Park with plenty of parking available next to the restaurant. Inside its decor is festive with nice artwork and music all in a Mexican theme, of course. After being seated by the hostess and presented the menu, on my first visit, I asked for the chicken fajitas with charro beans and their homemade flour tortillas ($17). First to arrive was the customary chips and red salsa. I enjoyed these a lot. The chips were fresh and not too thick and the salsa was warm and delicious. No complaints here! About 15 minutes later the entree arrived and I was pleased with what I saw. To begin with, the beans were very tasty in the too large bowl and I would order them again. The fajitas had plenty of meat but I would have liked more onions and peppers. Taste wise it was all very good and with the supplied guac, pico de Gallo and salad made it an enjoyable meal. Table service was also very good. I returned a couple of weeks later and this time chose the chicken fajita burrito with chili sauce but holding the cheese for $13. I forgot that I tried chicken fajita meat on the first visit and would have ordered the beef had I remembered. Again, the chips and salsa were very good and the burrito arrived about 10 minutes later. Also on the plate were refried beans and Spanish rice. The burrito was delicious smothered in the chili sauce. The sauce accented the taste. The refried beans and rice were good too but next time I might ask to sub for the charro beans Just because I liked them a little better. Finally, the table service matched my first visit. I believe La Corona to be a quality Tex Mex restaurant that I would be happy to return to and will.

Arrived on Sunday evening around 7:30. Was sat immediately. Not my first time here so I knew the menu, my friends did not. So they needed time to see what drinks they wanted because they like cocktails and the menu is not small and they had to choose which ones they wanted because the options are good. When they decided, the cocktails straggled out. Two came out but the other two did not, They just sat at the bar as my friends sat with there with their drinks in front of them waiting on ours so we can toast to a wonderful day with a new member of the group. You would have thought the other staff would step in or at least the bartender would see that the waiter was in the weeds and needed help. That's when I knew we should have not come. The food was all lukw warm. The appetizer of queso was like warm with chunks of cheese floating around and some of the chips were fresh and others stale. A mixed bag you can say. My Flautas where luke warm, so was the side of beans and rice. My friends said their tacos were okay. My friend who got the Caesar Salad, there was no dressing on the salad not was there a side of dressing that came with it. We had to ask for it. I did not have the energy to try to keep wrangling the waiter. If you want to shut the kitchen down early because the day was long I get it. Let the customer know, I get it. I used to wait tables to but I would never give people luke warm food or luke service. The staff seems not to have one anothers back. I did not eat my food, I took my food home to reheat it so I could eat it at the proper temperature. My friend took his salad home because he had more Caesar dressing at home. Left a bad taste in my mouth and very disappointed. The service and food from the last time compared to this visit was night and day. Total miss. $200.00 thrown away. I paid because I could not let my friends waiste there money on someplace I raved about. Maderas is really a small cute spot. It's rare I have bad service when I go out to eat because I am not a difficult customer and I know I am not the only one they are serving. I will wait for good food and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and my friends until it arrives. I would not put pressure on the staff or the kitchen. Also I will not arrive just before closing and make a resteraunt and it's staff stay open late because I am hungry. I rather come when the staff and the restaurant wants to recieve customers.

At brunch, the papas bravas come as small cubes of fried potato with an airy crunch that gives way to a soft, pillowy center - the kind of deeply satisfying bite that makes conversation briefly irrelevant. Crisp prosciutto adds salt, aioli brings richness, and smoky chile sauce keeps it lively. They're served with cactus-handled toothpicks, which are almost offensively adorable. The chilaquiles divorciados are another hit. The chips are dressed with salsa rather than drowned beneath it, so each one arrives ready for the perfect bite. It's a small distinction, but an important one. Then there are the enfrijoladas: rolled quesadillas in fluffy tortillas, covered in creamy black bean sauce and plated with more care than bean and cheese might seem to warrant. The dish is fundamentally simple, but that's the point. Soft tortilla, savory beans, melted cheese, bright salsa. Familiar ingredients transformed into something deeply comforting--the culinary equivalent of curling up beneath a warm blanket on a cold morning, even if Houston rarely provides one. Dinner shifts into another gear. The crudos are sensational, especially the tuna tiradito - a rolling wave of flavor and texture. The tacos are excellent across the board, but the crispy maitake mushrooms are unmatched. The short ribs arrive juicy and tender on a mole negro that doesn't sit politely in the background. It lands dark, complex, and full of flavor. And then there's the masa cornbread, a masterpiece of unapologetic indulgence. Humble cornbread meets savory-sweet mole, smoky, earthy butter, and caviar. It sounds like too much. It isn't. Every element earns its place. The cocktails deserve their own warning. They're the kind that convince you to keep ordering the same drink all night. By the end, you may have forgotten what was in it. What you'll remember is that it was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you needed. The experience started poorly with the valet attendants, whom we found to be rude, dismissive, and very unprofessional. It was such an unpleasant first impression that my wife and I mentioned it to the hostess when we went inside. Unfortunately, things did not improve. While deciding whether our party should wait or go elsewhere, I went to the bar to order a drink. After ordering, the bartender told me that if I was only having a drink, I needed to move. Apparently, sitting at the bar required ordering a meal. At that point, we had experienced enough. Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. Houston has some of the greatest Mexican food in the world, and for me Tex-Mex never compares. But of course it is beloved by some Houstonians, plenty of Texans and lots of tourists, and as far as Tex Mex goes, Candente (where I've only eaten 3 times) is around average. A little higher priced and higher end than some of the busier and more well known local chains, but similar in quality and bland taste. The Fajitas are my fave thing on the menu, but nothing to write home about. The reason I took off a star (was going to give 3) is because of some personal issues I have with them. When picking up an order here, you get a notification to say, come to the store. That happens to me when I pick up take out in a lot of places, these days, and when I do, it is either ready, or it takes 5 more min or 10 more min (because they mark it ready when it is not. Generally I'm okay with it, if it's less than 10 min. Candente? 20 min or 30 min. Even when it's not busy. They'll mark orders as ready (to make themselves look efficient I imagine) even when they are completely dead, and then will not actually start cooking the order until you get there to pick it up (I know, because I see people come in at the same time I'm there to pick up, order a similar thing, and 20-30 min theirs and mine comes out at a similar time). So just frustrating, is all. The owner is a Texan guy from Kingwood, he also owns the Pit Room BBQ nearby, which is similarly very fancy and successful. Don't let my bad experiences here put you off from trying it. If you want a list of real Mexican gems (and mostly dirt cheap), ask me, but you won't find any Tex Mex on there at all, to be honest. Just not my thing, in the same way that I think American Chinese take away has nothing on Chinese Chinese, such as Sichuan or Xi'an or Hunan cooking.
